I apparently got something similar once. looked like a small cyst near my cornea. Freaked me out when I saw it, but it eventually went away after about a year or so.

My dog, Ruby has a broken toe. One of her rear dewclaws. The vet wrapped it up and said she needed to be restricted to lower activity and be leash walked for a month. Which sucks since she's super high energy and very active. This was all diagnosed on Wednesday.

The vet just called again a few minutes ago. They had a radiologist look at Ruby’s x-ray. They’re concerned that it’s possible that Ruby’s fracture could have been caused by something infectious or cancerous. My vet thinks cancer is less likely due to her young age. And it’s possible that neither is the problem. But now she’s gotta go on antibiotics, I gotta get a urine sample to bring in on Monday, and they want to have the dewclaw removed and looked at to check for cancer.

Unfortunately it’s impossible to get appointments right now. I just made a consult appointment (so not even a surgical one) at a specialist and the earliest they could make it was July 27. I'm hoping I'll be able to get one sooner at another vet, but everyone is slammed right now.

    Ugh.

Those who have been following along may remember that I lost two dogs in less than two months last October and November. My Willow who died thanks to antibiotics poisoning her kidneys a week before the five year anniversary of her adoption. And then Nugget who I adopted a month later and died two weeks later due to internal bleeding from complications from her spay surgery. I'm trying to stay positive but if things go bad with Ruby, I don't know if I could take it.

Yeah, the vets around here are totally slammed. Many of them aren't even accepting new patients right now. The vet I made that appointment with is a specialist. My personal vet should be giving me a call sometime hopefully next week to talk about options there, so I'm hoping that they can get Ruby in sooner than that. Even if they schedule a surgery for the same day it would still be better as the appointment I have now is just a consult.

    EDIT:
My vet just called and said they moved stuff around and are able to get her in for surgery next Thursday. That's somewhat of a relief I guess.

    But still...

    Ugh.

By all the gods... Ruby must be ok!!
Any wait isn't ideal, but next Thursday sounds better than previous options. Fingers and toes crossed.

Hope she'll be okay. Fingers crossed. I lost my dog in 2013 and I have never gotten another one. I don't think I could go through it again..
I'm surprised at the waiting time for appointments?
What the fuck? It's faster to get a specialist appointment for a human here than for a dog by what you describe...

I think it has a lot to do with the boom in pet adoptions that happened during the pandemic. And a lot of vets were already short staffed even before the pandemic started. Put those two things together and you've got a serious lack of appointments. Of course if it was a true emergency, a pet would be seen a lot sooner/immediately if necessary.

and, uh, not to bring the thread down (seriously this is going to bring the thread way down) but there's another factor as well: Alarming suicide rates reflective of stresses felt by veterinarians

One of the reasons my vet is so short staffed is they've had a few staff members quit due to client abuse. Sucks. People are shitty.

Honestly, I couldn't do that job - thanks to the owners. There's people that want to put down their perfectly healthy pets for whatever reasons. Or because they can't pay the bills.
I have no idea how the laws in the US are evolving, but out here pets are still considered property and I can't even smash in a car window to get a dying dog out of an overheating car without getting into trouble. Bet it's the same in the States? Probably instead of the cops coming after me it will be some self-righteous lunatic with a gun.

i know multiple people who are vet techs or used to be, and my mom does dog massage at a vet. the clients are often some of the most belligerent and entitled people in existence. people's animal companions are SUPER important, and you would think they would treat the people trying to help those animals with respect and kindness...but i guess that's not how most people function. it's the same with the foodservice industry.

    How fucked was your day?

So I wanted to pop back into this thread for some updates. A few months ago I had shared about my marriage, and a lot has transpired since then. Most notably - he has officially moved out.

I've been up and down with how I feel about things, but I found a new therapist that I really click with and I'm going weekly now. I've come to the realization that my husband always been shitty to me. I grew up in a family where every generation dealt with the most insane levels of domestic violence. As a consequence, more subtle forms of emotional abuse went totally unnoticed by me. I knew he was emotionally abusing me in the last few months, but that stuff was always there in less direct ways. He withholds affection when he doesn't like things you've done or said, he always thinks he's the smartest person in the room (he's undeniably bright, but he doesn't know everything), he holds grudges over petty things and never lets you forget about them etc. I can count on one hand the amount of times he's sincerely apologized to me in 11 years. Meanwhile, I found myself apologizing constantly.

I felt really stupid once I figured that out. I don't tolerate anybody else treating me that way, and I usually pick up on that sort of thing in other people really quickly. But it never dawned on me that he was sort of a narcissist the whole time. I mentioned that to my therapist, and he was like "I'm literally trained to do this for my job, and I don't always pick up on it either. Don't be so hard on yourself, this can happen to anybody."

Do I miss my husband? Not at all. I miss being a wife, but I don't miss being his wife. I hate that the life I was building with him turned out to be a lie. I hate that my youngest is now confused and her life will be affected in ways I can't explain to her due to her disabilities. But do I want him back? Not even a little. It's nice to not have to check in with another adult before every little thing. It's nice that my house is always clean now. It's nice that I don't have to listen to somebody complain constantly about everything. It's nice to not have to ask somebody "are you mad at me?" once a day because they are sulking in a corner somewhere and not telling me what's wrong.

His behavior has only gotten uglier since he moved out. Just constant lies about what happened between us. We've followed each other's accounts on reddit for years, and I think he forgot that. So I see all his damn posts. He made some comment in a reddit thread the other day about how I "surprised" him with divorce by packing up all his shit. Which is obviously a lie. He was also mad that I unfriended him on Facebook. Remember - this is a man who made sure to tell me how selfish, unemotional and unattractive I am repeatedly for months on his way out the door. Why do you want to be Facebook friends with me? I didn't unfriend him as a punitive measure, I unfriended him because we aren't fucking friends.

He's getting everything he wants, so why is he so angry at me? What's with the lying to strangers on the internet? It's so bizarre.

Anyway, this whole thing will hopefully be legally concluded this fall. It has made me extremely wary of dating or remarrying again in the future. Maybe one day I'll date again, but I never want to share finances or a house with anybody again. I'm too paranoid about my daughter's safety to bring another dude into my house, and I'm too paranoid about my own judgement to trust anybody romantically since I clearly didn't recognize how awful he really was.

In conclusion, I'm actually doing ok practically speaking and no longer heartbroken. Mostly just mad at myself right now.

I'm really glad you're doing okay. But, please don't be mad at yourself. You're a good person - that's why you didn't see what a BAD person he is.

    Update:

Had the colonoscopy and endoscopy done on Friday the 18th of June. First time I’ve ever been put under any sort of anaesthetic (I mean, I’ve never broken a bone let alone had any kind of exploratory surgery; I think the worst thing I’ve had is a sprained ankle).

Anyway, no ulcer was found. A few (three I think?) polyps were found and removed, and several samples were taken for biopsy. There was nothing he could see of immediate concern.

So I think it’s going to be a situation of getting these biopsies back and seeing if I have Crohn’s disease, or IBS, or if the strain of Helicobacter Pylori I do have (or had) is a different strain and will need to be treated with a different type of antibiotic or antibiotics.

The professor is going to give me a call on July 2 (Friday) to give me the lowdown.

As soon as I turned to my side, put my knees in the fetal position, had a round thing put in my mouth to bite down on and had some crap sprayed down my throat I was out like a light. I’m kind of glad I had it done now because I won’t be as afraid if I have to have anything similar done later in life.

On the plus side, I didn’t shit my pants/shit the bed following the Picoprep intake. There was some residual blood in the toilet bowl following the procedure but that’s common with polyp removal.

Ah, the fun of it all!

Ryan, at least they found the polyps way earlier than the typical age-50, too. That’s great. I hope it all works out.

Yeah, definitely! What are polyps exactly? I haven’t bothered to Dr. Google it.

Also, there are so many videos on YT of people post-colonoscopy doing these massive farts and having a jolly old time. I didn’t need to fart at all after it was done. What’s with that? lol.

    Mayo Clinic:

A colon polyp is a small clump of cells that forms on the lining of the colon. Most colon polyps are harmless. But over time, some colon polyps can develop into colon cancer, which is often fatal when found in its later stages.

There are two main categories of polyps, non-neoplastic and neoplastic. Non-neoplastic polyps include hyperplastic polyps, inflammatory polyps and hamartomatous polyps. These types of polyps typically do not become cancerous. Neoplastic polyps include adenomas and serrated types. In general, the larger a polyp, the greater the risk of cancer, especially with neoplastic polyps.
    See this: https://www.verywellhealth.com/what-...-polyp-5080136

Colon polyps are very common; but since they can lead to cancer, the sooner they get removed and biopsied, the better.

Well, I guess it means your guts aren't suuuuuper messed up, and that's good!

In other news, oh god I checked my dog's head... he's been dealing with cancer and increasingly less and less energy... this marijuana juice I spray in his mouth seems to help and he eventually gets up and wags his tail but eventually just seems to sleep all day and doesn't like to be pet. There's now a hole in the side of his head about the size of a quarter, and it's just oozing this goop that looks like the slime from Ghostbusters. The doctors say just don't touch it or try to clean it, that way it might naturally heal. It's hard to even clean this side of his face. The stuff coming out of this hole in his head is just leaking out all over his face...

And this is not a happy animal. The vet says there's no "real pain" and I'm getting... I don't know.

I don't know about in Australia but here they don't put you under for the colonoscopy, nor the endo. My uncle-in-law just had an endo (they took biopsies and found cancer but he doesn't want to tell anyone but his sister (my mother-in-law) is terrible when she's worried. anyway, they didn't put him out for it nor give him any kind of anesthesia. And for the colonoscopy they can give you this drug that knocks you out, sure, but it isn't immediate. you're awake through the procedure and then you fall asleep and forget everything.

apparently going in dry is an option, I did not know that.

Glad you are ok. I'm going through similar right now. I had a minor heart attack brought on by some internal bleeding. Was in the hospital 5 days & it was decided I needed the 2 procedures you went through. For whatever reason, they didn't do them while I was in the hospital. So, I went in for the 2 procedures & it was decided that they didn't like my vital signs. Also, I had a bad reaction to the prep (projectile vomiting, etc). Now I'm having the 2 procedures on July 2 with a different prep. In the meantime, not feeling well at all. They stopped all RA treatments until the other issue is solved. So, all of my joints are swollen & I'm not able to get around much. So far it has been a miserable start to summer. Hope you feel better soon.

Mad for what? Waiting this long until there was an end to it? Don't be mad. You had a life together, and with a household/house/mortgage etc. and children there are always strings attached. It's natural to try and "safe" what you have, or at least give it the benefit of the doubt.

I kind of get what you mean and what you write really reminds me of myself, although in a pretty different situation.
I recently ended a six year relationship and came to the conclusion that I value my freedom, independence and solitude (and I mean this in a good way) more than anything else in this life. I'm not a domestic housewife. I don't want to grow roots, I'm not a tree. I don't need marriage for the sake of social compulsion. I will, for my own personal reasons, never have children. It's hard to find a guy who really is OK with my life choices. Most fake to be OK with it, those encounters usually ended quickly. Others were OK with it but eventually grew soft on me and started pressuring me into that white-picket-fence-house/marry me/plant-a-tree/have-a-kid direction. It's okay, it's what most people want out of life, I get it. My previous long-term relationship ex, who I admittedly turned down pretty badly, is happily married with two kids and a home now, we parted ways exactly because of things taking that turn..
This latest one? Let's see where he ends up. At least there's no drama, I'm really not into drama. Just two adults splitting up a household, works for me.

As for the colonoscopy (this is a weird change of topics, man..): glad it all went well and seems to be nothing serious! I'd so insist on getting hammered with drugs. No way I'd do that consciously, haha

OMG this last prep made me SO sick, I didn’t even FINISH it like I was supposed to the night before.

There’s been a national shortage of Trilyte and Golytely, so docs have had to prescribe alternatives.

The alternative prescribed for me (the only one they could find, at a local Walgreens) was PEG-3350 + Electrolytes. PUKE. I hope they find you a better prep and that you feel better.

sorry, confusing sentence structure but that's why I posted that article as well.

I know that my 2x attempts were both 'awake' but also with the forgetting drug administered. They wanted me awake to follow directions but didn't want me to remember anything, basically.

@Jinsai, I’m sorry about your dog. It’s been a rough road for you lately. You’re being a good dog dad taking care of him.
@eachpassingphase We talk a bit on Instagram so I know you’re dealing with all this in a mostly positive and healthy manner but please don’t blame yourself. It’s truly not your fault. You’re a kind person and unfortunately there are too many people that take advantage of that.
@Erneuert Sorry about your butthole . I’ve had a few colonoscopies and one endoscopy. The prep is the worst. I have been told (was knocked out for all of those) that I was farting a bunch after the endoscopy; nobody’s ever told me I was dropping heat after the colonoscopies, which you’d think it would be the reverse. Anyway, I hope you get good news about the polyps.

After my colonoscopy I was apparently pretty loopy and my wife had to help me get dressed. Apparently, while she was helping with my pants, I gave the old eyebrow raise and said,"while you're down there..." The nurse was in the room at the time. I thankfully do not remember this.

    Haaaaaaahaahahahaha!!!!

You ever see those YT vids of what people say while they’re all doped up after a procedure? Hilarious.

    LOL.
To be fair, I think this is such an inside joke with couples that it (the joke) slips out all the time. I know I said it once in mixed company to raucous laughter of my friends. And there was definitely a time my partner got their "revenge." I'm sure the nurse thought nothing of it.

I'm sure the nurse has seen and heard a lot worse

I just don't take anesthesia well. I had to have surgery last year (during Covid, horray. Hospital was like a prison cell) and was so sick waking up from it, couldn't stand up for the rest of the day because of dizziness. Every time I tried, I could feel things blackening around me again. Nurse started taking it seriously after I crashed trying to walk to the bathroom like 6 hours post wake up.
I seem to have a high tolerance for most of the stuff so they shot me up like a junkie. That's also what my arms looked like when I woke up. My veins aren't that bad and yet I had, no joking, like 11 needle holes scattered over both arms. I looked like a heroin addict for weeks. Wonder if they let the trainee practice on me?
    Hospitals. Ugh.

Thank you @allegro . It may be my particular maladies but they are putting me out for the procedures. That camera down the throat would be instant panic attack, so it's a good thing.
