I think you're completely over analyzing. Everything he said is completely valid. Hell when I was at the Q&A on this tour he started tearing into the Millennials (Which I am unfortunately a part of) and he is absolutely right about it all. I hate my fucking generation with my entire being. I like Sanders and really want him to beat fucking Clinton, but at the end of the day I don't really think any of his proposals make sense. I may prove to be wrong... but I have to say I stand with Corgan on his beliefs about how fucked this Country has become thanks to the Politically Correct Obama years and I fear wtf we are in for when my generation takes over.

you see, most millennials will never realize the point is that not everyone is going to agree 100% with your politics, AND THAT'S OK. You can have friends who do not share your exact point of view.

    Well-worded, thank you!

In that vein, I also feel that the word "tolerance", in America at least, is becoming more and more aligned with having to like or approve of something in addition to simply tolerating it.

Eisenhower and the GOP of the 1950's were actually far more to the left on domestic polices than the Democratic Party is today.

Love Billy, but I don't think he understands Sander's proposals, comparing them to Animal Farm, etc.

    MILLER LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITE

For anyone who is understandably very confused
, McMurderson was basically the SP fanbase's equivalent of Meathead for animations.

    But how, Billy? How?
He's keeping some shitty company. The wrestling shit, its disagreeable but fine, some of the advertisements and the wrestler chorus is Kauffman esque. But Alex Jones is purposefully disagreeable and often wrong. I guess its all forms of wrestling, damn sideshow shit I just don't dig. Don't know if Corgan's ever had taste, he's talented, but so is Buckethead. See you later, Billy.

Richard Linklater is good friends with Alex Jones and has even had him appear in cameos in two of his films but I'm not going to stop loving the Before trilogy or Boyhood or Waking Life or Scanner Darkly or, well, you get the point. If Billy puts out a whole album spouting Alex Jones-esque politics for an hour I'll not like it, but until then I couldn't care less who he agrees with (or disagrees with) politically.

Smashing Pumpkins have never seemed like a political vehicle to me, and the closest it ever really got was Zeitgeist and that still is relatively abstract and feels more vague on it than anything. Him being on some conspiracy theorist's friend's list isn't going to make me love Wound or Soma any less. People like Roman Polanski outright rape people and everyone still goes "Yeah but The Pianist and Chinatown are great" so I feel like if that's fine, then I can like music by a guy who has bizarre beliefs about politics.

Billy did a facebook livestream a few hours ago:

He just finished recording his solo record in 2 weeks, more details on that soon.
Billy and Jeff are starting a new band, maybe this means James is back in Pumpkins.
Some big plans are being laid out for Pumpkins but he'd rather not say it now.

I read this last night and started salivating. I couldn't even sleep cause I was so excited just by the news of it. Also I agree about the Machina boxset. I've been looking forward to that thing for years, have been so mad about it. Although after I saw them in April the show was so good I was able to put those boxset thoughts on the back shelf of my mind.

I have all but forced myself to not think about the Machina reissue for the better part of the last year.

So like should I start selling my organs now to afford the ticket prices for that tour or ... ?

As a fan who wasn't there for the "classic lineup," I can definitely say I'm hyped if this turns out true. Jimmy being at my first show last year was huge -- he's so integral to their sound and all the albums without him really show his absence. I'd love getting to see all the original people together just to see what that's like in person.

Also, it's nuts to think of how much Billy manages to write and record. He's got to be one of the, if not the most prolific songwriters of his generation and genre.

While I'm excited about a reunion tour, I'm not really sure if they will be playing larger venues or if ticket prices will skyrocket. Will the return of James Iha and D'Arcy really make THAT much of a difference in terms of concert attendence? Jimmy has been there, on and off, for the last ten years. He toured with them this year.

Funny, when I saw SP in 2008 they played to a half filled Wang Center in Boston, maybe 2k showed. Then in 2012 they played a small arena at Boston University and it looked packed. The Oceania tour was one of the best shows I have ever attended, btw.

Usually when they play Boston they play the Orpheum, a 2-3k theatre.

Of course it will generate bigger crowds. You're overthinking it & giving too much credit to casual music fans/bros/etc. Look at the GnR "reunion" this summer. Only real change is that Slash is back. Duff's been playing off and on for years a la Iha. Didn't seem to matter much to promoters or fans did it? They're playing fucking football stadiums just b/c the guy in the top hat is doing guitar solos again, ignoring that there's also like 27 other unnecessary people on stage as well. Hilarious.

People, perhaps incorrectly, assume they will hear a set filled with big 90's material if the original band is back together. With the Pumpkins that is def. not a given since Billy is so finicky, although if festivals are gonna pony up big $ (close to 7 figures per performance seems accurate) for a reunited SP headliner festival set, then they might specify a clause that discusses the material the band will play. They also might not. Never an exact science with how this stuff works.

Either way, I'll be waiting to see what the setlists and set times are before jumping in on a show. If I'm gonna pay more $ to finally see SP, and it's going to include the original members, then I want to see a two hour set filled with predominantly material up to Adore. Which is what most people would expect as well. I def. enjoy alot of the newer material (Oceania is a great album, and Elegy has some great songs too), but I'd much rather hear as much of Mellon Collie live as I can, for example.

I actually find the sped-up Bullet With Butterfly Wings and Zero adds an urgency and intensity to them that seems to bring way more sincerity out of Billy than if it was the same old same old studio cut. But I see what you mean.

Also I hope for troll's sake that the setlists are just all of Zeitgeist and Monuments with a Teargarden encore.

It's not jut the speed, he generally looks completely disinterested when playing them. It seems like he sped them up just so he gets through them quicker.

I'm not saying that a reunion won't generate interest, it will. For a lot of people the original four were the Smashing Pumpkins and it hasn't been the same since. I just question how big the reunion will be. Will they go from playing theaters to arenas just because James Iha is back? As for D'Arcy, does anyone really care who the bass player is? We're not talking about John Paul Jones or John Entwistle here. She didn't even play on their first two albums.

I don't think the GN'R comparison really works. Iha and Chamberlain contributed, but Billy is their lead singer, guitar player and songwriter. It was always the Billy Corgan show. With Guns N' Roses, they were the sum of its parts. Slash is a lot more than "the guy with a top hat." Duff did a few shows a few years ago when Tommy Stinson had a prior commitment, but he was nowhere near as involved with GNR than Jimmy has been with the Pumpkins for the last ten years.

With GN'R's reunion, it's Axl, Slash and Duff. No Adler or Izzy. It's the same core members now as it was in late 1991 to 1993, when GN'R were the biggest band in the world. The only difference is they have Richard Fortus on rythm guitar instead of Gilby Clarke and Frank Ferrer on drums instead of Matt Sorum. With Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese, they are a seven piece band--not just Axl and Slash and 27 other unnecessary musicians.

I would be willing to bet that if the original 4 tour, all SP 2.0 music would be left off the table. Might make for some interesting setlists?

Like I said, you're giving people way too much credit. People are dumb. They just wanna see what they are familiar with back on stage. Most people don't know who writes what, or care. For example, how many times have you explained how NIN works to people to then see them shocked that's all Trent's baby? It's happened to me dozens of times.

Even if Jimmy and D'Arcy had returned in 2007, they probably would still be playing theaters at this stage in their career. That's not a knock. People are fickle. I'm looking forward to seeing a reunion tour and hopefully new music.

Too bad we'll never get a NIN tour with Trent Reznor, Robin Finck, Danny Lohner, Charlie Clouser, and Chris Vrenna.
