New Want remix is available individually. I'm going to wait for the full set before buying, but the brief preview is encouraging.

Also - damn, I forgot about this track. Must give Wild Mood Swings a run through - it's been a long time.

Edit: checking Amazon they show a digital release for the full Mixed Up reissue as 15 June. Not sure if that was confirmed elsewhere.

I heard the want mix on radio 6. It was... a little like smith threw everything at it, like he had no restraint. I wonder if that’ll be reflected in all of torn down. He can do ace remixes - eg cranes jewel - but even those are a little bit too much imho. Just one overdub too many.

There’s exactly 2 tracks I like on WMS I think, want is one, feel free to guess the other

^Numb? I like Treasure, Trap and Jupiter Crash quite a bit too.

I picked up both Mixed Up and Torn Down this morning. Annoyingly enough there's no download code. I was planning on getting the CD in June anyway, but it would've been nice to get these on my iPod now.

I think the new mixes would've benefited from other artists taking part. I agree completely with the lack of restraint. The mix for Drowning Man is beautiful, but the vocals come in a beat too soon and it doesn't sound right at all.

Night Like This and Deep Green Sea are my favorites so far but I've still got it spinning.

*edit - Loudest Sound mix is fucking ace. Really beautiful version. The mix for Strange Day is giving me a shoegaze vibe and it just makes me wish that Kevin Shields would remix a Cure song.

*edit 2- Lost has a nice drum and bass feel to it, and It's Over is perhaps better than the original. Dark, industrial tinged, angry. Great way to end it. I still think it would've been better to get input elsewhere for these mixes, but I'm glad that Robert's inspired to be making new stuff again.

Sounds like I’m going to enjoy the later-period song remixes at least- thanks!

I should probably re-listen to WMS, I can’t recall the tune to numb etc off the top of my head. My 2nd choice was “this is a lie”.

I always forget about This Is a Lie... really great song though.

I stilll have to give the proper Mixed Up (remastered) a play through. And a second listen to Torn Down is definitely in order. Another reason why I wanted the download code is to be able to conveniently listen with headphones (my turntable setup sadly does not include headphones ugh).

As a whole, I think WMS is awful. But it has some really good songs in there. This Is A Lie being one of them.

two listens of torn down completed (one while cleaning up a rip of the vinyl).

in short, i like it FAR more than i expected it to!

i'm the opposite so far, i prefer the earlier remixes to the latter-day ones. agree though that both 'drowning man' and 'want' have vocals that feel like they're out of sync. it feels more like a mistake than an actual artistic choice, but both have great musical tracks. otherwise, nothing i really hate on here, but definitely like some mixes better than others.

    maybe get in touch?

otherwise, as for other robert remixes, i've always LOVED that cranes mix (overdubs and all), and especially love his and also the trees mix:

just finished listening to Torn Down. overall is pretty good. I'd give it a grade of B. really dislike the redo of Want & wasn't super keen on Edge of the Deep Green Sea. rest is at least ok if not better.

Is it 'out there?' I'm going to pick up the box when it comes out.

I'm so glad the reissue campaign's going to move forward. It's a nice feeling, knowing some day a Bloodflowers LP won't cost an entire township's worth of internal organs on the black market and I'll be able to pick one up.

there are rips of the record store day vinyl "out there". i'm going to buy the 3 cd set but didn't want to wait until June 15 to hear the new mixes.

I just want that Wish remaster Robert mentioned. Though I'm super excited the Mixed Up remaster next month! I'm still not a huge fan of the album, but I actually liked Torn Down a lot. Totally worth getting up way too early and freezing outside of a record store for!

I've started listening through The Cure's records, and I'm really liking Pornography atm. I love how intense, icy and rhythmic the songs are.

That's such an amazingly dark, visceral album. It's probably my favorite of their albums, if I had to pick just one. It's like 8 hard punches to the gut, and so immersive in its ability to transport you to a very grimy, cold dark place. Like Disintegration, every song is essential and tells a story. But Disintegration has such lush, dreamy production whereas this is at the opposite end of the spectrum, and almost nightmarish in comparison. I'm still not sure why they didn't go with A Strange Day for the single though, because that seems like the closest thing to radio-friendly on the album.

Are you doing chronological order? Prepare for quite a ride haha.

The great thing about The Cure is even their worst albums are still pretty good. Can't say the same for many of their contemporaries.

I've been jumping around a bit, listening to bits and pieces from each record, but I probably should've started with Three Imaginary Boys first.

One Hundred Years is so good, it establishes the tone of Pornography perfectly. Robert's vocals and those drum machine beats are awesome.

I listened to Disintegration earlier today, and I like it, but I reckon the album should end with the title track. Homesick and Untitled just seem to drag on a bit too much for me. Plainsong and Pictures of You start off the album wonderfully though. I love how they both take time to develop, instead of getting straight to the point.

You can probably skip Three Imaginary Boys, imo. Seventeen Seconds is where is truly begins.

I would not advise skipping three imaginary boys unless you're skipping it in favor of boys don't cry.

I found three imaginary boys boring and completely directionless. The secojd bonus disc is pretty cool though. Never heard Boys Don't Cry (us version). Not sure why but I haven't.

three imaginary boys is far superior to the US re-release boys don't cry. also, i really enjoy the album, as it's kind of a proto-cure doing poppy post-punk. it's by no means my favorite, but it's still a fun listen, and it's almost like what they would have been in an alternate timeline.

Top is still a fucking masterpiece. Seems to be the most divisive album. People either love it or hate it. I would take Top over Head on the Door any day (and HOTD is great)

The Top is ace! It's so weird but it's really the stsrt of The Cure's mix of meloncholy and lighter pop stuff. And I absolutely love Pornography. It's such an amazing album. It carries so much weight and emotion to it. There's really nothing else like it. It's definitely an album that may not grasp you at first but if you take the time to appreciate it, it's fucking amazing. Darkly beautiful.

I agree! So many people hate their self titled and 4:13 and yeah, it's not their strongest albums but each have some strong songs on them like "US or Them" or "Freakshow." Though I think I'm in the minority in liking "The 13th."

Yeah, I'd still call 3IB worth anyone's time. There are small hints of what would come on 17. It's not a band's best beginning but it's a stronger one than some.

The Top is great. Not a favorite but far from bad. Very addled, spastic and frenetic. I like it just fine, but it's not equal to what came before or after.

Love most of the self-titled's songs still. Shame about the production. Hope some of that can be remedied on the eventual reissue.

i also love that The Top is essentially Robert's "solo" album (because he played pretty much everything but drums, as everyone else was too fucking high to do anything productive) and he really got to explore some avenues he normally wouldn't have. i thoroughly enjoy it from beginning to end.

and head on the door is great, though i would be happier if "six different ways" wasn't on it and was instead replaced by "stop dead"

The stuff he was doing with The Glove clearly influenced "The Top" as well...I think he even said a few "Top" songs were going to be used for The Glove but he decided to use them on a Cure album because he liked them so much ("Dressing Up" and 'Caterpillar" specifically)

I am still trying to figure out how "Exploding Boy" did not make HOTD and "Screw" did

When I saw them in Cleveland quite a few years ago now, they did just about half the 3IB/BDC album in their final encore and it was such an energetic way to end a set. 10.15 into Killing an Arab is pretty much the perfect way to finish a Cure show. Aside from A Forest from the Show video, anyway.

i like "screw" fine and i think it works in the context of the album, but "exploding boy" is probably one of the best songs robert has ever written. i somehow heard the alkaline trio version years before i ever heard the cure version, and it's my favorite thing alk3 ever did haha.

I've been listening to the band non-stop over the past week. Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me and Faith are so damn good! I haven't really settled on a favourite yet as well, each album has a fair share of awesome songs.

I may never settle on a favourite. It'll always shift depending on mood. It took me over 10 years to appreciate Pornography (from first listen) at all, then it spent a brief spell as a favourite. I think "Disintegration" is the only constant for me. I went through a Wish revitalisation phase last year after seeing them live (but they didn't do "End" which I was really hoping for at my slot)

pretty stoked to rediscover bloodflowers and self titled in particular as part of the re-issues if they do pick up.
