Wonder how much of it Steven's on. IV was definitely missing his presence. Liked half of it though.

He's said he's not writing any material for Blackfield any more, but will continue to sing and play on the records. Alan Parsons is involved this time, so SW might have been tempted to stick around more to learn from that big tree.

Which he didn't do much of last album. I think Welcome to our DNA is a good balance. He sung and played while Aviv did the majority of the writing. Hopefully it goes back to that. Singing on just one track kinda sucked. Didn't really like the guest singers either.

Since they haven't come down to my surprise, here are the videos from the New York show in March where Steven was too ill to sing some and Ninet took over

Some interesting news about the next Blackfield record was released on Facebook this morning. It would appear to be that Steven is more in the driver's seat than he was on the last two albums.

BLACKFIELD V will be released on 18th November by Kscope, and sees a return to the full partnership that made the first two albums such firm favourites with fans. Written and recorded over a period of 18 months in both Israel and England, Blackfield V contains 13 linked songs that form a flowing 45 minute ocean themed song cycle. With the pair expertly handling vocals, guitars, and keyboards, Tomer Z from the Blackfield band on drums, and string arrangements performed by the London Session Orchestra, the album is a powerful journey through catchy melodies, lush arrangements, and stunning production. Legendary producer / engineer Alan Parsons produced three of the album’s key tracks.

Both musicians consider Blackfield V to be their best collaboration to date. The album will be released by Kscope as a Digipack CD with a 16 page booklet, CD/Blu Ray with high resolution audio, and double vinyl.
    Cover photography by Lasse Hoile.

Wow. An ocean-themed song cycle plus the original reason Blackfield was good at all? Potential to be their best album.

I'm having difficulty finding a more underrated band than Porcupine Tree. "Time Flies" is a fucking masterpiece.

Tim Bowness's November solo concerts in Poland have been postponed to 2017 with promises of a "very very special guest" joining the lineup. Wonder who this might be?

so the "fear of a blank planet" vinyl i had pre-ordered from amazon hadn't arrived yet despite the fact that it came out on the 9th. i went to my amazon account to check, and it had the "we need more time to give you a delivery estimate" message and the product page says "temporarily out of stock." now, i feel like amazon shouldn't be able to accept a pre-order for a product on which it can't guarantee delivery, so that's pretty shitty.

thankfully, i found it for less money including shipping on the importcds website and cancelled my amazon order, but it's still really annoying that i had to go through that process.

    good news and bad news:

good - the vinyl arrived from import CDs in great shape, and turned out to be the translucent blue vinyl, which looks gorgeous
bad - it's the version of the album WITHOUT the incorporation of the Nil Recurring EP, which i was really looking forward to, so now i have to buy that separately, which pisses me off :/

That's too bad. It's a much better record with all 10 songs together. Steven has a point about not wanting to fill up an entire CD with music for it's own sake, but this case is certainly an exception.

yeah, i'm bummed. but at least i'll finally own both of them on vinyl, i guess. le sigh. would have been nice if the tracklist had been posted by ANY of the sites where the record was listed before it actually shipped.

Indeed, but it's being cut at 45RPM. Not that it should be, of course.

What's the difference? Better sound quality?

yeah, a record at 45RPM is like a VHS tape at SP speed (2 hours) as opposed to EP speed (6 hours). the more surface area a certain amount of time covers, the better it sounds.

With the caveat that it cuts maximum side time (fidelity-wise) to ~15 minutes. Personally, I'll take the quality 'downgrade' in return for a solid 22 minute running time.

Unfortunately the release of the new Blackfield album has been delayed, and Kscope have rescheduled it for 20th January. We apologise profusely for this, but it is due to circumstances beyond our control. Frustrating though it is, hopefully when you hear the album you will agree it was worth the wait! In the meantime we hope to bring you more audio and video preview material from the finished album soon.
    Ugh, damn it.
