I think Baroness does the southern rock metal thing better at this point honestly. But hey, I bet the Scott Kelly track will at least be awesome.
i just can't get into baroness, man. you say mastodon has become forgettable to you? that's what baroness is to me.

i like this second song. it's simple, but that doesn't mean it's BAD. i think the arrangement is interesting, and it's fun to listen to...that's better than a lot of stuff out there.

you want good southern metal? check out Windhand. fucking incredible, and dorthia, the vocalist, is otherworldly (listened to her solo album today and it was also fantastic).

That's cool, I know I'm in the minority in the Baroness vs. Mastodon battle, but I would take a plodding rock track like "march to the sea" from Baroness over that second song all day, everyday.

I think in all honesty I just prefer Mastodon heavy cause that's when they caught my attention, back in their Relapse Record days, that's just how it goes. For me their peak album is Leviathan with Remission at its heels.

    I'll check out Windhand, thanks.

not their strongest song, but I don't think so... It's more like an 80's power metal song. I do think the final verse has a copy/paste feel with how sudden it comes in. Besides, "Everything" is an amazing song

Yeesh. I liked the first song alright, but this newest one.... not so much.

It's not garbage, but I don't think it'll end up on my list of favorites.

Still can't wait for this album to come out. I don't like much metal anymore in my advancing age, but Mastodon will always be close to my heart.

I'm liking what they're doing as I love the fact that they're coming up with great riffs. They should be playing the new Braves stadium and sell that place out. They're my local homies.

There's a pre-order bundle for the Emperor of Sand that comes with coloring pencils and a color-in vinyl jacket...I may go for it!

excellent song. Awesome riffs & drumming (duh, it's Mastodon). I cringe at them attempting it live though, part. if the alcohol quotient has already been hit before they hit the stage.

Easily their best album since Crack the Sky. Most of the songs remind me of Blood Mountain. "Show Yourself" seems to merely have been the obvious single from the bunch, and not really indicative of the album as a whole. (that being said, I still liked it quite a bit.) Steambreather is a total beast.

Echoing ZeroSum, one listen through is all I needed to determine that Emperor of Sand is my favorite of theirs of theirs since Crack the Skye. 'Show Yourself' didn't even bother me as much this time around, and the rest of the album is a banger. Can't wait to listen to this again.

Wish the beginning part of 'Jaguar God' was stretched out to be a whole song.

Spun it in full yesterday while vacuuming. Not the same effect, but the album is great. Good mix of alot of their different styles over the years.

After a few listens, I like the new album a lot. Certainly more than the last album.

I'd like to hear Brent sing more than Troy, but he's only on a few tracks. Brann's all over this thing.
