After coming around after my last post a year or so ago denouncing everything, I have come to the conclusion hat Ride the Lightning is a phenomenal album. it clicked with me eventually of about 10+ years of attempts. If they had kept up that style and ferocity I'd have been a fan of just about everything. The title track is my favorite thing they've ever recorded minus what I stated a page ago.

I just listened to RTL a while ago on my jog. Amazing album and the remastered edition sounds incredible.

For me, Metallica's best work are Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and And Justice for All. That is a great trilogy of albums while I do hold Kill 'Em All, Death Magnetic, and The Black Album in high regard while Load and Reload have their moments. St. Anger for me is their worst album.

I've never listened to it, but the title and album cover make me want to punch baby birds.

Hey, remember when good drummers filled in for Lars and we were reminded how fucking terrible he is, and how much better Metallica could sound without his sloppy ass (Hey Kurt....you're sloppy as fuck too)?

Sure, there are mistakes at times (Joey cannot get the tempo down for Four Horsemen for example), but that's b/c of the rushed nature of this coming together. Overall, both of them provide much tighter drums than Lars on his own songs. Lombardo replacing Lars full-time (esp. now that he doesn't have a full-time band) would be AMAZING.

Don't have time to watch these vids now, but I remember that Jordison sounded terrible. His style did not fit those Tallica songs at all. Lots of "overdrumming" (yes, even more than Lars has been doing in recent times).

If it's 80 minutes, couldn't they have trimmed off 60 seconds somewhere and put it on a single disc?

New song is decent. Nothing amazing, but solid.

Album artwork is awful, imho. Very, very goofy.

It's the thing that should not be...but in visual form.

Possibly too-loud drums aside I like the song. Doesn't wear out its welcome.

The artowork is pretty bad, but at least the song kicks ass.

I like the song, but it has a by-the-numbers feel. At least with Load/ReLoad they weren't trying to rehash their old formula.

It looks like some hack tried using the NIN glitch art-work. "Hard Wired To Self Destruct" even sounds like a '90's industrial era title.

Gonna listen to it later, still at work trying to get some shit done.

Reminds me of the alternative/rejected cover art for Alice In Chains' Facelift album that was used in their Music Bank box set that is also hilariously bad...

I'm surprised by how solid the single is. Nothing amazing but it's not a wimpy release.

Album art is garbage. I understand what its trying to do but it fails at it by the execution.

musically, its got alot to like about it. good riffs, nice and fast. But as has been said, Lars is WAY too high in the mix. Even if his drumming was better and had more interesting fills to it, it would still be too high. It's distracting. Add in that the drumming is pretty straight forward, there's no reason for them to be this loud.

James' lyrics are laughable. Normally that can be ignored in metal, but some of the lines are given such a showcase in parts of the song that you can't help but focus on how goofy they are. Especially from an intelligent older man like James, with a history of great lyrics in the (distant) past. Bummer.

that artwork. there are no words. Fire everyone who thought this was a good idea.
