I'm a pretty big Cure fan & finally saw them twice last year after trying in vain for 25+ years. They were phenomenal. For me, them & NIN are pretty much equal on the list of favorite bands. I post a lot on the Cure Fan Forum. I just found this site. Anyway, I had a thought awhile back that I'd like to put up here. It has been a real long time since the Cure released anything. From the last tour, obviously some songs are ready. They are free agents label-wise. After the last few records, I think Robert needs a good producer to work with. Someone who was empathic. So, here's my evil plan: Trent signs the Cure to his label & co-produces a new record with Atticus & Robert (I'd let Reeves Gabrels have some input, too). Maybe bring Alessandro Cortini to the party, too. I think Robert Smith has at least 1 more great record in him & Trent could be the guy to bring it out. Obviously, Robert has been an influence. I think Trent could possibly add something & provide a much needed (at least in the studio) kick in the ass. It could be volatile but a lot of times that brings out the best in all parties. While we're at it, dare I say it, how about a co-headlining tour? Maybe with some crossover between bands ala the tour with Bowie. I saw that one & it is waaaaay up on the great concerts that I've witnessed list. My evil ex hated the show because Bowie wasn't playing "hits". It should've been a sign to me, haha. What say you? I know I'm in rock fantasy land but if we're dreaming best go for the gusto!

To me they have 4 perfect records (Faith, Pornography, Disintegration, and Bloodflowers) and no bad records to speak of and its been waaay too long. Also Bowie is a precursor to both artists and I would have loved to have seen him at those NIN shows they did in the 90s. I think Outside is some of his best work and highly underrated. Those were some legendary shows.

Yea I always nerd out when I find out a favorite artist of mine is also a fan of other artists I like and when they work together its just a bonus for everyone involved. Another connection that I always think about with Bowie and NIN is the "sober" connection. Trent has mentioned in the press that seeing Bowie up close on that tour, doing it sober and without losing his artistic edge helped inspire him to go that route. Then I think about the output in the 90's from DS onward and how long between that and TF(my fav nin record...so far) NIN went and compare that to the ton of music that came out after sobriety. That can't be a coincidence and who knows what happens if Trent had gone the other way, would he be where Manson is today instead of in control and still evolving?(granted TR is a brilliant musician in his sleep, I just mean personally) Who knows? Being sober would kill some artist's work but others seem to thrive so it's always hard to tell but I'm glad it turned out the way it did. And I like Manson btw, but while he is fun and thought provoking at times there is a clear separation in terms of quality and inventiveness between him and the other three artists we've been discussing in my mind.

As far as Cure records go, I just can't quite put KMKMKM on the level of the others I mentioned. In fact I prefer Wish to it and even Head on the Door but I certainly don't fault people for loving it, there are some great tracks on that record. The Cure are a hot/cold, bipolar band, any fan knows this. Wish, KMKMKM, Wild Mood Swings(its in the album title) all fall into this happy/sad vibe they have and they do it very well. And don't get me wrong I love happy Cure. Lovecats, the walk, doing the unstuck and the like are excellent. But for me, when Robert Smith tells the band "ok for this record I'm going to be more particular and we're going to make a cohesive record based on this vision I have" and then they go dark for a whole album, you get magic.

Nothing much to report, but they put up a 40th Anniversary calendar in the store for 2018, which promptly sold out. Lol Tolhurst has been tweeting that "wild ideas" are happening in 2018, but that may not even be Cure related.

I hope something does happen. It's so quiet.

After trying for 25+ years (long story, I was cursed), I finally saw them for the first time last year. Saw 2 shows, Vegas & Portland. They were incredible. Vegas was cool because it was @ the Chelsea in the Cosmopolitan so small. They couldn't fit the whole lighting/video rig in the venue. Portland was about 10 days later at an older "shed". That show was even better. Nearly 3 hours & Robert seemed really into it. They hadn't played Portland in a real long time. I've been a Reeves Gabrels fan since Tin Machine & he fits in real well with the Cure. I think something will happen this year. Fingers crossed!

I sure do hope so. Just to torture myself with laughter I still open up the Trilogy Bluray and read that Bloodflowers Remaster was coming Summer 2004. Yet here we are still without Wish. I'd like Robert to actually follow through with any releases he's been promising since about '09.

I've at least achieved that; they supported the Cure at the "Manchester Move Festival" in 2004, which was the first time I did see the Cure. I can't remember much about the Cranes set unfortunately. I think it was very "Particles and Waves" heavy.

Excited! I almost hope its news of touring, not even an album. I have to see them live at least once.

Edit: Also from that twitter : "I can confirm one of my upcoming projects next year is with The Cure with whom I have worked since 1981. This will be with the full participation of Robert. Updates when I can, but suffice to say it will be a 40th anniversary project."

I, too, am hoping for a 40th anniversary tour. It's been WAY too long since I've seen these guys.

there are a lot of really excellent songs on that album, and a few that are just so-so, but it's an overall rewarding listen. "open" is tied with "the kiss" as my second-favorite album opener (nothing will ever beat "one hundred years").

The B sides of Wish are fucking epic. If they axed some of those shitty pop songs off that album (friday i'm in love, doing the unstuck, high) and replaced them with darker b sides like (the big hand, play, this twilight garden) that album would have been looked at as the proper followup/sequel to Disintegration.....But RS is clueless when it comes to picking album cuts/b sides...(see: Wild Mood Swings B sides which are better than 90% of that album)

Who in their right mind disparages wish? Granted "high" has never been my favorite song but even the pop tunes on that record are good. "Friday I'm in Love" is cheesy all out pop but its supposed to be, its a lesson in not taking oneself too seriously. Doing the unstuck has actually become one of my favorite Cure songs over the years. I see it as a sort of response to all the fans that wanted the Cure to be only doom and gloom, that track is like a call to action to get your shit together and stop wallowing in your own pity. As for the majority of the album I think it is a perfect follow up to disintegration, tracks like apart, to wish impossible things, deep green sea, end, trust, cut are all excellent. Not to even mention "letter to elise" which is classic.

I still hope one day they continue the remasters and we get a 3 disc set for this period. And if folks don't like the pop tunes just make a playlist, take them out, and add in the b sides and you've pretty much got disintegration part 2

I don't listen to Wish very often, but I do enjoy Show and Paris which has the entire album represented sans "Wendy Time" and "To Wish Impossible Things".
