    Controversial HTDA Opinions

Like Controversial NIN Opinions except with HTDA. Who would have guessed?

A cover is usually never an artist's best work, but I would say that IYLSE is the best HTDA track by far.

If these samples were actually used to create real songs HTDA would be a lot better. Even though it still is great.
I would love something; ANYTHING else that sounded like YZ. Those samples were full of YZ.

i hope to god we get an ep or something to coincide with twin peaks.

I've been listening to the LP every time i drive for a couple of months now, and realizing just how incredible it was.

Not sure if sarcastic or not.

not sarcastic. just not my thing. the video where trent is dead ... or something ... was just awful. and as tony said, it always felt self indulgent to me.

Art is self-indulgent. Trent has said on many occasions that his focus has always been on what HE wants to do as an artist at any given time. Most artists make art to please themselves. You're free to like it or dislike it, but saying it's self-indulgent is pointless.

i get it. art *is* self indulgent. maybe that's not the right way to describe what turns me off about it. the vocals are a breathy whisper at best, *i* don't think the videos are good ... i don't like it. of course this place is crawling with people who do. i just don't. no big.

    how was it a failure?

    - the music was gorgeous
    - the videos were really cool (love you, @kel but you're wrong)
    - the live show was one of the most incredible things i've ever seen*
    - mariqueen's voice is outstanding and suited the music so well, and was also a perfect compliment to trent's
    - ATTICUS

*i haven't seen NIN live since the NINJA tour

How many failed experiments get a debut album on the Billboard top 50?

With two EPs before that, there was enough people to decide if they liked them or not, I really doubt anyone bought WO not liking the band, so the bandwagoning was over. And it's really not like they've stopped, but Q's been pretty clear kids > music

It was definitely not a failure though. The music was well received, as was the tour they did and the videos they produced.

I hope that whatever future material they release is closer to the debut EP's sound than Welcome Oblivion's. In general I think they're a band that's better of with a leaner tracklist and sound. Welcome Oblivion still just seems too long to me.

Doubtful. I remember Trent mentioned in a couple interviews at the time that the EP was probably too close to the Nine Inch Nails sound, and that any music they did in the future would be trying to distance itself from that sound a bit.

Funny enough I found that Welcome Oblivion was far more close to NIN than the self-titled was.
