Couldn't find a thread... new song out at the moment (one drop), I really like it. Yep they are old and it's all a bit questionable (the video is diabolical), but they were great live in 2009 so anything that keeps them touring is welcome

Weirdly, he sounds Welsh in that opening line!

got to see them live at terminal five a few years back... one of the best (and loudest) shows i've ever seen.

a solid discography... love the first record through and including happy?. graveyard, death disco, the body, albatross, flowers of romance, so many great tracks... i accidentally cribbed 'the order of death' on a recent recording, to boot. major influence and amazing band.

Wobble & Levene were playing all of metal box not long ago, along with some bloke who does a pretty bang-on Rotten impersonation

I caught PiL in Camden town a couple of years ago... spur of the moment thing, and like you say, it was extremely loud, full of energy, I was really impressed

Obviously one of the best tracks ever recorded. In my top 10 of all time. This track is responsible for 1979 being a brilliant year for music. Momentous impact this had. Kick started a lot. Shaped the next few years!!

Saw them recently too in a tiny venue and loved it. Flowers of Romance material sounded powerful.

I prefer their first record to Metal Box. Despite Metal Box being important and groundbreaking i just love Keith Levene's guitar sound on that first record. Just sound like a really ultra tight band.
This group were the coolest band on the planet back in the day. Every band tried to emulate their sound.
Despite their golden period being 1978-1981 with Levene and Jah Wobble, i also love the John Mcgeoch version too. They still wrote great tracks if not albums for a good decade after.
Its a shame Wobble and Levene did not stick around longer. But they were all nuts.

PiL is great and so is anything related to John Lydon for me. I'm a big fan of him. His solo album is great as well. Take a listen if you hadn't, a talented musician and song writer if you give it a go. I love the Sex Pistols but he had unlimited potential to be great and with their breakup he did so.

Happy? is a good album, echoing the post a few posts up or so.

Oh gawd I'll forever be a fan of this knucklehead. Even besides all the great music and lyrics, his interviews are classic as well.

I just bought a box-set that includes their first five albums, for only 40 bucks. I look forward to listening to them. I always liked PIL better than the Sex Pistols.

How has there not been a thread devoted to the great Public Image Limited and godfather of punk John Lydon...I figure with the new huge retrospective boxset coming out next week and the documentary movie "The Public Image Image Is Rotten" also coming out soon and the band currently touring, now would be a great time to start a thread for the great PiL

PiL is about 1000x more interesting than the Sex Pistols, with far better musicianship and writing.

Saw them a few weeks back, first time since 2009, still very good but no surprises in the set - pil theme, memories, rise, open up, flowers of romance etc. Wasn't familiar with the new stuff (3-4 songs) but it sounded good. Rotten tipped out the ashes of a dead fan onto the stage during one song, which was weird

I love this band, they are playing in my town next November, i already saw them live, but i wouldn't mind checking them again!

Johns voice has held up surprisingly well for a dude who is over 60 and still drinks and smokes. The last 2 PiL albums, his voice sounds exactly the same as it did in 1987...Carries over to the live shows as well
