I had no idea this band got back together...

Or should I rephrase that, Jay Gordon decided to assemble a random bunch of people and head back on tour to pretend to be relevant again.
Here is who is in the linep now:

Carlton Bost - Guitar (Deadsy, The Dreaming, Lunarclick)
Nic Speck- - Bass (run un run)
Jamie Miller - drums (snot, the start)
Ashburn Miller - Guitar (deadsy)

I was actually curious to see the band live, until I saw this...

Well it's not bad bad. At least you know he's singing and it's not lip synched...

The first two albums were great, but that Punk Statik Paranoia album was horrible. I still like me some Orgy once in a while though.

Letting the audience sing your best known song is not any kind of good idea. He really wouldn't sound THAT bad if he was actually concentrating on the song.

I have to say that I'm really sad about the Musical Revolution portion of this board. We currently have nothing interesting to talk about apparently, so we're bringing up these dipshits? Come on. We're one step away from chatting about Justin Bieber.

Well, I brought up Binary Park (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/threads/690-Binary-Park) A few weeks ago, which is a totally awesome new band for 2011, but that didn't warrant a chirp from anyone on this board. I was then contemplating adding a thread for This Band (http://www.reverbnation.com/drowningsusan) Until I realized nobody on this board cares about new music...

To quote a fellow ETS'r from the big black delta thread...
Well the boards back up. Its looking great. but it seems everyones posting about the same old crap music that they've been posting about for the last 10 years. please no more Radiohead, KORN, Rammstein, Tool, etc. this is 2011 and there are amazing things afoot. It's a clear indication what people here like to listen to. Just be thankful I didn't create a Coal Chamber thread...

A Coal Chamber thread would be infinitely more interesting, in a "why the fuck would you do this" kind of way.

I gave up hoping for a new Orgy album long ago, and anyway, if it was to be released it wouldn't be the same. They've already missed their window. The fact that Jay went and pulled a stunt like this now, so many years later, is a disgrace to both his fans and his old bandmates.

I don't really care about this band either way, but I have to say, I looked them up on Setlist.fm and pretty much all of their concerts- the recent as well as shows dating all the way back to 04- are really short. Like, 12 songs. Which is pathetic. How do you go out in front of a paying crowd of appreciative fans and do that?

The main problem as I see it is that there used to be an obvious handful of bands that came out around the same time, had a fair amount of overlapping fanbase, and served as a fodder for conversation on these boards. A few more obvious examples might be NIN, Manson, Tool, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, QOTSA, TMV, and Radiohead and many, many more. Nowadays, musical tastes around here have diverged to a point where we're left with threads that rehash the tastes everyone used to share or threads that show where our tastes have gone but only a few people wish to talk about. Until we get a fair amount of people gushing about the same bands, i don't see how this is going to change.

http://banana1015.com/projected-vs-orgy-cockfight/

pretty average if you ask me.

carpenoctem

Yeah, definitely average by the standards of the first two albums. But hey, it's been eight years, and lots of infighting that apparently ended in 80% of the band being replaced. So it's a miracle that we've gotten this at all.

ORGY is just a gimmicky pile of garbage. thats why its cool to hate on them. And I dont lump them into the nu metal genre at all. but I do lump Nu Metal into the gimmicky pile of garbage category as well.... so i guess they have that in common...

Sometimes it's fun to wake them up and play with them. But i'm the kinda person that would rather wake up a sleeping cat. Cats are too kick ass to be wasting their life sleeping.

Don't worry, it's just people in their mid-20's funk who don't seek out new music anymore and complain that all new music sucks. Half this board is basically the Antiquiet crowd, and the other half are genuine music revolutionaries. I pay attention to the revolutionaries even when I don't like their taste simply because they're not in a holding pattern. Real music lovers are constantly on the prowl because they're sluts for the interesting, the new, the radical, and their tastes are constantly changing. They have no boundaries and they know something good is always out there waiting to be discovered.

Bands like Orgy, Limp Bizkit and Korn are for people who are out of ideas and act as if they've seen enough of life to know what's what. They're the kind of people who have $25 to their name and think one of the best parts of life is kicking back with a six-pack and remembering old times. That's normally fine, but they probably do it every night. The pounds and beer bottles add up, and suddenly they're 28 years old, pudgy, boring as fuck, and whiny. Fuck that noise.

Wow, I really wish they would have just stopped with vapor transmission . The first albums were great, for what they were. But this new shit? Oh geez. The only thing they've done I enjoyed was that Blue Monday cover. That's about it. It's so cliche to say I like that so it doesn't even count anyways.

Just youtubbed the name and clicked on the first video "kick the bass" I totally heard this song everywhere during it's respected release and never released it had members of Orgy in it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, gonna listen to the rest of this stuff now.

Hmm... yeah, I donno about this one. Seems... off...
I kinda like that "When it rains it pours" song though. But the rest, yeah... seems like they're trying too hard. Music defiantly seems over-produced.

I was just wondering when we'd see a new Orgy release the other day. They've been working on this bloody record for 2-3 years now.

I'll still give it a spin. All i want is for them to tour Canada. They seem to always skip us over. They've been mad touring these last couple years. Tons of shows in the states and the UK, but never anything here. Bah.

I like portions of everything except "Wide Awake and Dead" (the "when it rains it pours" track you mentioned), but then they get ruined by stupid looks or overproduction. If those previews are anything to go off of, I'm going to have to pass. My friend's band is opening for them in Oregon, but I doubt you'd want to trek that far South.

Edit: Just looked at the dates, I guess they're playing in Seattle in next month as well. Whatever. I don't like El Corazón and I've seen enough live videos on YouTube to know that I probably won't enjoy the show.

Also, PSP was pretty rad. Not sure why it gets so much hate.

My reasons (a short, but very specific list):
1. Jay seemed like he wasn't very much invested in his lyrics. Compared to "Candyass" and "Vapor Transmission" (which seemed to be mostly deliberately abstract), the lyrics here just seemed too straightforward and bland.
2. There was less emphasis on the electronic elements that made them so unique. I'm sure that could be considered subjective, but name me some bands that sounded like Orgy did on "Candyass" and "Vapor Transmission." I still can't.

The only positive I can think of is that "The Obvious" sounds like it could have come from "Vapor Transmission." It reminds me "Eva" tonally, and is the only song I still like off the album. Like a lot of albums I listen to for the first time, I loved this when it came out due to my love of the band, but once that novelty wore off I was never able to appreciate it again (and I've tried many times). What upsets me the most was that the next Orgy album (when everyone was still involved) was rumored to be a mix of "Vapor Transmission" and "Punk Statik Paranoia." I think that would have fixed all the problems "PSP" had and I wish it could have been finished.

I defiantly wouldn't travel for a band like Orgy. If they came to me, or I just so happened to be in a city they were playing at the same time, i'd go.
Speaking of making the trip down south, I'd like to get to Portland this October for their Retro Video Game convention. Been wanting to go last couple years, but I either ran out of vacation or just couldn't swing the trip for various reasons. Saving a few vac days to make sure I hit it up this year.

By the way, never get the dozen doughnut box at Voodoo doughnuts. Great doughnuts... but 12 is just doughnut/sugar overload. (I love how none of this has anything to do with Orgy anymore but... fuck it, it's 4am and I had a few tonight. Besides, nobody takes this band serious anyway... so it's Okay to steer off course in the Orgy thread).

Yes this is all digusting. Candyass was great, except for the korn song. Vapor Transmission is amazing, avoiding the sophmore slump most bands have. I had high hopes for them at the time. I defiantly agree with you on both of the above points.

I am weary when using PayPal as I have had my account hacked before. It was all because I created a Steam account so I could play a game that was exclusive to Steam. Now i'm weary about trusting Steam again. Some Russian guys hacked into my PayPal through Steam and were using it to buy DOTA2 codes or some nonsense. I would NEVER link a bank account or credit card to my PayPal for that very reason.

Especially my bank account. I get funds into my PayPal through selling stuff on eBay. I used to hate having to get paid with PayPal from selling stuff, but now I've gotten used to it and as long as nobody hacks my account, it's a safe way to do online purchases. I would always express my dissatisfaction with having to get PayPal funds when I sold stuff and my friends responses were always "It's easy to link your bank account thru PayPal and transfer the funds" HA! Glad I never did that.

And yeah, this digital nonsense needs to knock it off. I miss having Physical copies of things that I buy.

Well... I finally heard the EP, and after my first listen I was like "wow, is this ever HORRIBLE!" I listened to it a few more times, and it's still just OK. Not as bad as the initial listen, but still nothing compared to their back catalog. Actually, listening to this EP made me want to go back and listen to Candyass and Vapor Transmission, and wow were those albums were gold compared to this. I mean, those albums had their dull songs here and there, but overall, they were awesome. They had an awesome sound, very well ahead of it's time, then they kind of just took a step back when they released "Punk Static Paranoia" and while I thought that album was awful when I heard it, that album even sounds like gold compared to this.

I think it's because the rest of the band left. You start to see this wasn't the Jay Gordon show like some leading rockstars like to take ownership of their band like they do everything, this really was a band effort, and frankly without the band, it sucks. Well, sucks for Orgy anyway. He should not have resurrected the Orgy name for this material. He should have left it in the grave with Punk Static, an album that already left a negative taste among fans as it was.

Gone is that totally awesome futuristic drum sound for... I donno... poor excuse for dubstep noises? And the lyrics... oh man, the lyrics are sooo cringe-worthy.
The red bull gives me wings so I can fly line had already been dropped in this thread earlier, but there are even lines worse than that... basically the whole song "Suck it" is about Jay taking girls home from the bar to bang... It's like, dude, you're almost 50!

I still like the "Wide Awake and Dead" song, but that's nothing new. That song came out last year as it was. The last two songs are OK, but this is not Orgy. Never is, never was, never will be.

Punk Statik Paranoia took me awhile but I ended up enjoying it, but yep nowhere near Candyass or Vapor

I am actually listening the Talk Sick as I type this now, Suck It and Come Back has grown on me a wee bit too. Out of the newer Orgy tracks, I like Grime of the Century and Wide Awake and Dead best still

Any of you listen to Deadsy?
Jay Gordon was originally part of them, think playing bass, and left to form Orgy.
He was on Deadsy's first EP and kinda stole their sound to be honest.
I prefer Deadsy over Orgy, their first EP and album are great.

Always been a pretty big Filter fan, with the exception of the last record. They are always pretty great live.

But whoever booked the Denver stop of this tour should be slapped. Herman's Hideaway is a smallish dive-bar where mostly local bands play. The biggest shows I can remember ever going through there was a Kottonmouth Kings DJ set for some weed festival and Dolores from the Cranberries playing a solo show. Are the rest of the venues on this tour as embarrassingly small?

Can't speak for the rest of the venues on this tour but the Studio Seven venue here in Seattle is a pretty small venue in SoDo tucked in between all the warehouses down there. I haven't been down there in a minute so I don't know if they have made any changes but I would say it sounds pretty similar to what you described for the Denver venue; There are other smaller venues around the city they could have played which would have been way better. Might consider going to this show mostly for Filter.

i was a dante's in portland years ago to see pm dawn and they never showed up. probably because they drove past the tiny, hole-in-a-wall venue off skid row, the size of my apartment. i'd expect that kind of booking by orgy (awful), but filter, too? that's weird. and depressing.

The "Venue" here in Vancouver (What a creative name...) is a decent sized place for a show. It has a capacity of only 500, so I guess it's on the smaller side. I've seen acts like KMFDM, Saul Williams (on his Niggy Tardust tour) and Frontline Assembly play there, if that gives you an idea on the size.

What's more shocking to me is that tickets are only $23 CDN here... There are 4 bands playing as well! 2 other bands called "Vampires Everywhere" and "Death Valley High" (Never heard of either of them) But with the incredibly weak Canadian dollar, I can't anticipate them making much from this show... As of now, $23 Canadian works out to $16 US. Divided by 4 bands... That's like $4US a band, lol...

i don't know what you guys expect. No one gives a shit about Filter or Orgy in 2016. These are the types of venues for bands like this now. Sure it sucks b/c most of us probably like at least some of their releases (Vapor Transmissions is cool and the first two Filter records are solid), but this shouldn't surprise anyone. Both these bands have become punchlines. If they booked bigger venues they would be half empty at best. Google the results of Orgy's last GoFundMe (or kickstarter maybe) campaign.

Holy smokes, Orgy was TERRIBLE live! Absolutely disgraceful. They only played for 30 mins and their whole set sounded off. Their music does not translate live at all.
I waited 18 years to see that? Wow... Jay should have kept Orgy to rest. They should have never been brought back from the dead. His band is just a mere shadow of what they used to be. So embarrassing. He wouldn't even sing on "Blue Monday"... It was an instrumental version with him jumping around in the crowd taking selfies. Oh my god. And the mixing just sounded off. You could barely hear some of the instruments. Blue Monday was nothing like it was on the Family Values Tour. This is the "Jay is poor and needs some money" tour. If they're even making any money from this tour. They're only charging $23 for tickets and they didn't even bring ANY merch along with them to sell... none.

At least Filter was decent. Which is odd. I went for Orgy and left being impressed by Filter.

You know, back in the early 2000's when I first heard these guys, I hated them. But I just listened to a few of their songs now, and I'm not sure why I never really gave them more of a chance. It's not bad.

And yeah, I think I lost all respect for Jay Gordon and friends after witnessing that half assed live show. No wonder why Canada kept turning them away at the boarder every time they tried to cross, they knew better then to let this shit into the country.

Seriously they had to hire 2 immigration lawyers recently to gain access into the Country.

I know, my girlfriend and friend were really stoked to see them as well since, well, they've never toured this part of the country before.
Then they jump through all these hoops to come play here and it lasts 30 pathetic mins, and we're like "all that kerfuffle with crossing the boarder over THAT?"

They didn't even bring any merch along with them. But, I'm kinda glad they didn't. Because if I ended up buying something from them before I witnessed that performance, I may very well have wanted my money back. I think they may have gone on late for some reason. Their set time was supposed to be 7:40 but they never went on til 8:05 and ended at 8:35. I think they played like... 6 songs. There was especially no excuse for the short set because one of the bands got left at the boarder. 4 bands were on the bill, 3 made it across. You figured they'd have extra time to play then... The whole experience just left a sour taste in my mouth. It's almost like they didn't even want to be there.

The whole time we kept wondering if they even made it across the boarder, You know, with no merch being sold and NONE of their social network sites barely acknowledging there was a show in Vancouver. They kept advertising the shows in Portland and Seattle on Twitter and Facebook, but dead silence about even making it to Vancouver, or if they show was still on. After all the fuss about trying to cross the boarder, you figure they would have given the fans more of a worthwhile event. The whole experience was just off putting.

Least I didn't travel for this show. I read a comment somewhere online where someone said they were driving 8 hours to see the show in Vancouver... I feel bad for that person.

Everyone in the audience was just kind of looking around at each other trying to figure out what the hell they just witnessed once they show ended. We were like "there is no way in hell that's it. They gotta be coming back for an encore"... and.... nope.

Thinking back... I think they played 7 songs. There were 2 songs from the new EP, Dissention, Opticon, Suckerface, Stitches, and Blue Monday.

You're absolutely right. But the problem with that is, Orgy "technically" showed up and played. So I wouldn't even have a case against them. Here's what the band said about the situation anyway:

This is a FILTER headline gig, so as long as FILTER is at each show, tickets are valid, and they will not be refunded for a no show by ORGY due to Canadian Immigration related issues. We can assure you we are doing everything possible to work things out way before April and hopefully we should have jumped through all the obstacles and hoops before the end of March.
http://www.theprp.com/2016/02/12/news/orgy-hire-immigration-lawyer-in-a-bid-to-gain-entry-to-canada/

Eh, whatever. What's done is done. No sense continuing to get all worked up about it. All I know is I won't ever pay for an Orgy show again. Like I said, at least Filter stepped up their game. I was never really a hardcore Filter fan, but I must admit, they put on a pretty decent show. Well, hell of a lot better than Orgy anyway, lol.

Up until last weekend, the worst concert I had ever witnessed was a Marilyn Manson show in 2013. He was headlining and played for less than 55 mins, and was basically rolling all over the floor and not singing. I didn't think any show could ever top that as being the worst thing I had ever witnessed, but I was wrong. That Manson show was striking gold compared to what Orgy pulled outta their ass last weekend.

I guess all I can really do is spread the message. If anyone is thinking about attending one of these upcoming Filter gigs SPECIFICALLY to see Orgy, save your cash and go to the movies instead. You'll get more enjoyment out of watching a 2 hr film over a 50 yr old man jump around in a hood. Especially you guys in Toronto... I'm looking at you guys. Your show is coming up quick... Sunday the 24th. Buyer Beware.

Yeah, I know they technically aren't the same band as they were. But these days, that seems to be the norm for traveling rock bands from "yesterday". It's mainly just the lead singer and hired goons. I figured, I waited almost 2 decades to see them live, they're basically playing my backyard, why would I not go. It's not like I paid $50-60 to go, the tickets were dirt cheap. $23 split between 3 bands... I'm not sure how Orgy is even making ANY money off this tour to be honest. They're not selling merch and tickets are dirt cheap. I honestly don't know how they're making any money from this tour at all.

I've tried getting into Deadsy on numerous occasions. It's alright, but other than a few of their bigger songs (The Key To Gramercy Park, Brand New Love) I can't get into them no matter how hard I try. I'll definitely give the new stuff a spin when it comes out since I'm always looking for new music to listen to.

I agree that Orgy hasn't been or sounded like Orgy in a while. Jay seems like he is trying too hard to stay relevant in the music biz. I think he should have just called it quits after Punk Static, but he decided to revive the Orgy brand for some reason, and it just hasn't been the same since.

Bad musical opinion: I heard their version of Blue Monday before the original so I like it better. I know. But in my defense the only 'rock' station available in my neck of the woods (I'm not kidding about that part) was a station whose call sign was literally "Christ In Radio" so they were top 40 only. I didn't get out of there until I graduated high school and so is a lot of music that defines my generation that I've still not heard.

Fun fact: Orgy's singer Jay Gordon was originally the bassist for Deadsy. He played on tracks Flowing Glower, Future Years, Cruella, and Sleepy Hollow off their self titled promo album. These tracks, except for Sleepy Hollow, also appear on their debut label album Commencement, which features another track called Seagulls (the Macroprosopus) with Jay Gordon on bass. Korn's Jonathan Davis sings on Sleepy Hollow and The Key To Gramercy Park.

The guitarist, Ryan, recently started following me on instagram out of the blue. I still can't figure out why, but the dude apparently owns and operates a pizza shop in LA now. Weird ass random world.

Dug a little deeper and found this article: https://www.theprp.com/2018/04/19/news/orgy-tease-new-single-army-to-your-party-welcome-drummer-raanen-bozzio/

They claim it's just a single with a radio edit, instrumental and acapella version of the song, complete with differently mastered mixes.
On the above photo I thought "Crichy crich" was the name of a song, but according to the above article it's a rapper... Damn, I am so out of touch with artists these days. I have never heard of a Crichy Crich before. I'm old! But hey, what I'm the poor sap bumping the "orgy" thread in 2018, so yeah... I'm totally down with the times, lol...

EDIT: Sifting through the comments on that article I posted are comedy gold. Wow, people really hate this band lol. Comparing Jay Gordon to Herman Munster or Frankenstein in that new photo. Getting ripped apart in the comments. Worth clicking on just to read the riffing going on in the comments.

If you take the singers face, photoshop it red and paste it on to Darkness's head, no one would know the difference.

Whoa, This thread is fucking hilarious. I am cringing so hard over here, and your comment about Darkness from Legend had me rolling. I almost can't believe I liked this band. I only liked the first two and the debut still wins out of the two. Ever few years I'll play candyass but they.. really. should. just. STOP. IT!

All things considered the new track isn't bad. Probably the best we could hope for at this point.

It’s sad that this, in name only now, is the same band that gave us Candyass and the excellent Vapor Transmission.

Ryan and Amir were the heart and soul of Orgy. I loved Julien-K’s last album.

Ah shit, this is sooo bad. Disappointing.

I'll be sticking with Julien-K and Deadsy.

I remember loving Candyass and Vapor Transmission when they released (peak high school for me) but I've tried to revisit a few times over the last year and...wow. Aside from "Blue Monday," "Stiches", and the track with Jonathan Davis guesting, I cannot stand them. Their shtick did not age well.

This pops up in my youtube queue from time to time.

There are a handful of songs they recorded together, none of them memorable.

honestly i think vapor transmission holds up better than candyass (i think i've said that in this thread before) but i also think stitches is their best song, and their cover of blue monday is :: glances around :: better than new order's version.

No question. It still gets to be a bit much for me, though.

Agreed.

I like a couple songs off of PSP, but you’re not wrong.

I remember during Riotfest 2017 while New Order was playing Blue Monday, overhearing a younger (than me, at least) girl ask her friend "why are they playing the orgy song?"

But yeah, I probably enjoy the cover more. Except the synth part towards the end of the original, damn that is fierce.

About half of PSP is very solid even though the demo versions of a couple tracks were better than the finals.
