Well I voted Libertarian this year, so I suppose you don't like me? I am truly sorry you are so wildly judgemental and full of hatred. Calling someone shitty and selfish based solely upon who they voted for is extremely ridiculous. I do not dislike you, although I do find your bigotry appalling.

Oh no I love you. Libertarian voters gave trump this election more than any one.

That said, libertarianism is a complete farce.

Interesting article about why 30+ million Americans still voted for Trump despite everything: https://www.smh.com.au/world/north-america/why-they-love-trump-to-death-explaining-america-s-48-per-cent-20201106-p56c8n.html

The durability of Trump’s appeal in the face of death itself is a remarkable phenomenon of politics and psychology. If faith in Trump can triumph over death to win the votes of 48 per cent of the American electorate, then it’s safe to assume that it will survive electoral defeat, too.

You can see his line of thought. Celebrity in America is in a peculiar class of its own, and has long been the Brahmin in the US caste system. “To be a celebrity in America,” said the late American journalist Mary McGrory, “is to be forgiven everything.” And she said that 44 years ago.
Hanson is a minor celebrity figure, Palmer even more minor. Steele tables the ultimate Trump card: the current President starred in a popular reality-TV show for 14 years. “COVID has exposed a character flaw – how bereft our country is. It’s made us turn on each other because we have become reliant on a reality-TV host," Steele says.

“People need to understand that Trump was the first person since Ronald Reagan [the Hollywood star turned Republican president] to convert his viewers into his voters. For 14 years, he [Trump] was on national TV in people’s living rooms, firing people The Apprentice].[/FONT]
“And if not that, they saw him around all these beautiful woman in his beauty pageants. So when the [I]Access Hollywood tape came out, people said, ‘What do you expect? I saw him going into the dressing rooms with butt-naked women and just standing there staring at them.'

“Everyone over the age of 14 rationalised his behaviour. It’s no different to a friend, cousin, a neighbour you like – ‘I like the guy’ – and everyone was making excuses for his behaviour. So how the hell is he sitting there for four years with 40 per cent support in every poll, when he ain’t done shit? It’s because people look at him and say: ‘That’s my boy.’

“Donald Trump is their mirror, but they don’t want to look too closely. That’s someone who could put a child in a cage, and then lose their parents. They don’t want their hand on that, so they say: ‘They came here illegally.’ That reality is something they don’t want to deal with.

I see one of two possibilities here:

1. Trump refuses to leave and holes himself up in the bunker under the White House. Secret Service and/or the military have to go in and force him out, kicking and screaming. (By the way, I would pay to watch this happen!)
2. Trump gets Pence to issue pardons to him and his family. Trump resigns and Pence becomes President, following through on his vow to pardon the Trump family. This enables Trump or one of his spawn to run for President in 2024. (I would guess that Junior would be the most likely to do so.)

I agree with you that the majority of them either voted for Trump or threw their vote away on someone not unlike him but she’s cool with weed, yo. And either way, that’s an error in judgment at best and a glaring character flaw at worst.

My fights with Libertarian DigitalChaos on this board were epic, and I have no qualms in stating that I fucking hate Libertarians. Because they are full of shit. I respect the GREEN PARTY more than these bullshit artists. NOTHING in their wavering platform makes any logical sense. They want it all but want to pay nothing for it. And they can shove their beliefs up their respective privileged asses. My stating that is not bigoted. That's American with free speech; something "Libertarians" claim to cherish. As do liberals. If I said "I hate Nazis," that's based on my belief that the Nazi Party is awful. And they'd likely say "oh, you're a BIGOT!" And I wouldn't care. I'm not comparing Libertarians to Nazis, but I'm saying that that Americans are allowed to dislike the way other Americans cast their votes for political parties. This isn't like "Oh, I don't vote for black people!"

You have your right to vote for whomever you want. And I have the right, as an American, to tell you that I can't stand the Libertarian party and its voters; not based on your membership in a particular group, but because the party platform is utterly ridiculous. To me, voting Libertarian for President is about as stupid as voting for Kanye West; due to the Electoral College, NO third party has a chance of winning. Also, most of today's Libertarians are actually Republicans who don't want to be associated with racists; but, they're still super fiscally conservative. They still want zero regulation, laissez faire capitalism, and most of the same tax policies as Republicans. Libertarians argue against government involvement, but love corporate socialism.

It's Sunday, it's a great day, let's not ruin it with these Republicans in other clothing. If we say DigitalChaos' name three times, he may show up. (And he was never ever offended by my disagreeing with him, or telling him he was full of shit, nor was I ever offended when he said I was full of shit. We remained online friends, and even exchanged emails sometimes. We mostly disagreed about gun control, even though we both own guns. Being Libertarian doesn't always reflect who we are AS PEOPLE; it just reflects your political beliefs. There's a difference, as goofy as that sounds.)

We don't have to state how we vote, publicly. Actually, until relatively recently, nobody even DREAMED of telling anyone else how they voted, not even their spouse. Voting booths are private for a reason. When we share how we vote, we open ourselves up to public criticism. That's not bigotry; it's criticism of our choice about how this country - and people within this country - will be controlled. I don't place my vote relative to how it will affect ME; I vote for how it will affect OTHERS. And I judge other peoples' votes that way. And, as an American, I have the right to do that.

If you truly believe the quoted statement, how can you possibly begin your rant by saying you "fucking hate Libertarians." It sure sounds like you hate the person, instead of the political belief. Disagreeing with someone is not the same thing as hating the person. Or perhaps I misunderstood.

I would not be a good person to defend the Libertarian platform, since I do not identify as one. In fact there is some stuff which does not make a lot of sense. But this time it was the best choice for my presidential vote. I also voted for Democrats and Republicans this year. The two party system is absurd and by it's design tends to keep our country divided. And I do not think that's a good thing.

Rant. Hmmmm ... Interesting choice of words.

Cambridge: "to speak, write or shout in a loud, uncontrolled, or angry way, often saying confused or silly things."

You can't defend the Libertarian platform, don't identify as one, agree that some stuff doesn't make sense, but "this time" it was the "best choice."

This is why I hate voters like you.

You may be a super great guy in person. Likes doggies, nice to kids, goes to church. But votes like a blind guy in a china shop.

The two-party system sucks and I don't agree with it, either, but the entire system would need to change to get rid of it; firstly, the Electoral College (https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/03/electoral-college-elimination-threatens-two-party-system/). A good way to START change is to install a bunch more third party and independent candidates into LOCAL elections, including municipal and state legislations, rather than just Presidential elections. It's perfectly okay to have "Independent" candidates, which means NO party affiliation (my preference, I'm an independent).

1/3 of eligible voters in California now register as "Independent." It's the fastest-growing group in the country.

I fucking hate Libertarians because I hate the bullshit. When you vote Libertarian, you are pushing that bullshit. You're better off writing in yourself.

Edit: Regarding the two-party system and the Electoral College, etc.: I really love Andrew Yang; he suggests eliminating the EC and replacing our election system with Ranked Choice Voting (https://www.yang2020.com/policies/rankedchoice/).

I am glad you like my choice of words. Makes me all fuzzy inside. It's just too bad you seem bent on hating me as a person. I don't hate you.

My choice to vote Libertarian was not blind, it was based upon stuff which is important to me. For example, I have a strong distrust of an excessively powerful federal government.

I completely agree that there should be more independent or "other party" candidates in local and state elections. But since the 2 party system is so ingrained into almost every level of government, that might be a pipe dream. Perhaps some day.

Massachusetts had ranked choice voting as a ballot proposal this year. Sadly it did not pass, but the margin was not huge, so perhaps next time!

Any reason we should be concerned about the faithless electors scenario?

Not when Biden won over 4 million more votes than Trump.

Also, the "fraud" seems to be coming from the Trump administration:

https://twitter.com/jennycohn1/status/1324532671947550720?s=20

More than 150,000 ballots were caught in U.S. Postal Service processing facilities Wednesday and not delivered by Election Day, agency data shows, including more than 12,000 in five of the states that have yet to be called for either President Trump or Democratic challenger, Joe Biden.

Another 39,000 ballots were processed Thursday, agency data shows, including more than 4,000, in the remaining swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

Despite assurances from Postal Service leaders that agency officials were conducting daily sweeps for misplaced ballots, the mail service acknowledged in court filings that thousands of ballots had not been processed in time, and that more ballots were processed Wednesday than on Election Day.

The number of mailed ballots not delivered by Election Day is expected to grow as more postal data is released in the coming days. Some election experts worry such delays could run up against even more generous ballot acceptance windows that some states have granted.

In several swing states, late ballots will still be counted as long as they were postmarked by Election Day and received by Friday. They include Nevada, where 4,518 ballots arrived on Wednesday and 635 arrived Thursday, as well as North Carolina (2,958 on Wednesday and 835 on Thursday) and Pennsylvania (3,439 Wednesday and 1,459 Thursday). But states such as Arizona (864 Wednesday and 559 Thursday) and Georgia (853 Wednesday and 610 Thursday) don’t accept any ballots after Election Day.

Sam Spital, litigation director for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, said the vast majority of those ballots were delivered in a timely manner and most were in states with more lenient ballot acceptance deadlines.

Because the counts are ongoing in those states, it is unclear whether undelivered ballots would have made a difference in deciding the presidential election. But the delivery failures highlight the risks in relying on the mail service to deliver ballots close to Election Day.

The Postal Service had warned voters not to mail ballots within one week of the Nov. 3 election, even though they are treated as first-class mail, which has a one- to three-day delivery window. The Biden campaign changed its messaging to encourage voters to use drop boxes or vote in person and avoid the mail system within 10 days of the election. The Trump campaign’s messaging was mixed: The president baselessly claimed mail-in voting was susceptible to fraud, though he and first lady Melania Trump have voted by mail themselves. And late in the general election cycle, his campaign courted supporters to vote by mail after seeing growing Democratic advantages.

Under Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a major Trump financier who took over the agency in June, first-class mail delivery rates have steadily declined, especially in urban areas that are bastions of Democratic voters. In public statements, he called the safe and timely delivery of election mail his “sacred duty” and insisted the agency was up to the task of facilitating an election in which a record 198 million Americans were eligible to vote by mail. But the Postal Service’s summer struggles bled into election season almost immediately as Americans began voting in October.

On Wednesday, the Postal Service processed 94.5 percent of ballots on time, an improvement over recent days but below the 97 percent rate that postal and voting experts expect. Based on the agency’s one- to three-day ballot processing window, voters would have mailed those ballots on Sunday or Monday.

For the remaining 5.5 percent, or more than 8,000, of ballots that took longer to process, they would have been mailed between Thursday and Saturday.

In the nine postal districts serving the swing states of Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia — which have yet to decide the presidential race — the on-time rate was 84.6 percent. That means roughly 15 out of every 100 ballots in processing plants were not sorted — or delivered — in time.

Postal Service spokesman David Partenheimer wrote in an emailed statement that the majority of the 150,000 ballots processed Wednesday were destined for states that accept ballots with pre-Election Day postmarks and that the votes would be counted under state laws.

“The Postal Service is required by law to deliver all mail that is deposited in our system. We cannot control when voters choose to mail their completed ballots, but we implemented extraordinary measures to ensure ballots were, and continue to be, delivered to the boards of elections as quickly as possible,” he wrote.

On Election Day, postal workers were instructed to submit ballots directly to vote counters, bypassing the regional facilities that account for the processing scores submitted Thursday to Judge Emmet G. Sullivan in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Sullivan is overseeing one of several voting rights lawsuits filed in the aftermath of the Postal Service’s well-documented service declines. But the delivery numbers alarmed civil rights advocates, who say that the Postal Service was a vital and unavoidable component of election infrastructure for millions of Americans in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Voters put their ballots in the mail by this week and by this past weekend, and the only reason that their vote wasn’t counted was because of USPS delays,” Shankar Duraiswamy, an attorney representing the civil rights group Vote Forward, said in court Thursday.

Justice Department lawyers representing the mail agency have cautioned that the figures are not reliable. The data does not include “first mile” and “last mile” handling steps, which could add time to delivery, and only accounts for items the agency was able to successfully identify as ballots.

@zero (https://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=6414), I guess I could also say that I "fucking hate libertarians" because 99% of them seem to be self-serving, myopic, solipsistic assholes. It's a general statement though. Not all libertarians are myopic solipsistic assholes. Some of them are big Ayn Rand fans, some don't even know they're not really libertarians (like Bill Maher for a while there).

But I think their platform, as much as I completely disagree with its beliefs on a philosophical level... and really, a political platform is, more or less, a fluid philosophical concept. Its specific goals and intentions are defined by its most powerful adherents. They make up what the party really is, and at this point, the libertarian party is functionally an alt-Republican stance.

There's people who don't fall into that group, but they're really not there. It's like saying "green party people aren't liberals." It's nonsense really. Just another way of creating lines to divide people, especially when it isn't necessary.

I'd say it's about 1% of libertarians are pretty cool... and, that's about the percentage that came out to vote for the actual party they claim to back.

At this point, your hating me would make me feel fuzzy inside.

But, otherwise, I invite you to read this article (https://www.salon.com/2015/12/03/5_libertarian_welfare_kings_who_got_rich_off_the_g overnment_they_want_to_destroy/).

If some persons of questionable moral character identify as Libertarians, does that therefore mean that Libertarianism is bad? This sure seems like a logic fallacy of sorts. There will always be people who manipulate institutions to their own advantage at the detriment of others. Just look at all the nonsense which has occurred throughout history in the name of religion.

Voting Libertarian in THIS election means, in effect, NOT caring about Trump getting another term.

Is being forced to choose between two parties shitty? Yeah.

But, this time, it was bigger than that.

It was about more than just us.

It wasn't about "big government" or any of that ideological stuff that generally doesn't affect us, directly (because local stuff actually affects us much much more).

It was about a President who is DANGEROUS, and who is encouraging white supremacists to "stand by" for his direction, and to back him up with their arms.

He defends dangerous right-wing terrorists and uses them to his advantage.
He denies that racism is a problem in this country.
He denies that police brutality exists.
He encourages police brutality.
He used "U.S. Marshals" of unknown origin to attack innocent, peaceful citizens.
Over 500 children are in cages at the southern border, and their parents were sent back to Central America and there's no clue as to how to reconnect them
He denies people their rights, all the time.
Including a man in Oregon, whom he had MURDERED by U.S. Marshals (https://www.opb.org/article/2020/10/13/new-eyewitness-accounts-feds-didnt-identify-themselves-before-firing-on-portland-antifa-shooting-suspect/).
Then he said "There has to be retribution (https://www.vox.com/2020/9/14/21436216/trump-michael-reinoehl-protests-portland-shooting)."

Literally throwing away a vote for a third-party candidate and NOT voting for a viable candidate is, in effect, voting in favor of this monster.

It's the most selfish thing a person can do.

This election was about people who are truly at risk; their actual LIVES are at risk.

Here's an example of the relief those kinds of people feel right now at the results of this election:

The lack of morality behind that is disturbing.

This is why black people are so disgusted by us privileged white assholes in the suburbs. Because we don't give a fuck. Or because what we DO give a fuck about is only about "us" and our money.

When we are finally the minority, and that will happen, we will get every fucking thing we deserve.

Thank God us old fucks are dying off and leaving the younger people who will save the flora and fauna on this planet.

I live in a place that's more of a foregone conclusion that Massachusetts, but come on, I am not that misanthropic about the worth of my vote really. I know it won't matter, but I'm not gonna write in "the dude from Die Hard" because I feel robbed of a voice. I feel it's an odd way to sit on the fence when, really, fuck the system - how you feel in a functional way matters more. Voting for "Mickey Mouse" or "Jo Jorgenson" is basically resigning your vote. It's a vote that says "voting doesn't matter."

There's way more effective ways to bring about change in my opinion. To each their own. I'll take a well-reasoned libertarian over some evangelical or trump cultist... and maybe it's time we did listen to sensible people on the other side. Now that we're not being shit on every single day as some kind of fucked up sport.

Now, it's "the Democrats STOLE THE ELECTION" and "THIS IS WAR" and "WE HAVE GUNS AND WE ARE TAKING IT BACK" and all kinds of fucking warped shit.

And Trump is encouraging it. Jr. actually declared war!

Libertarian Republican Asshole Rand Paul is echoing Trump's assertion that the election was fraudulent. (But, of course!)

I'll take a well-reasoned libertarian
I've known a few, but they have developed their own party platform. They're like Catholics who use birth control, "Oh, bah, I don't listen to the Pope, I just don't tell anybody." Oh, well, then you're not REALLY a Libertarian.

Just like Rand Paul.

Libertarians actually used to be okay! Like, long ago. Then, they morphed into this fucking wacky "we're Republicans but we don't wanna say we're Republicans because some of us are pro-choice and we smoke weed and we're not all that religious. But, fuck taxes and government regulations!! Oh, but I don't wanna PAY for my kid's school, oh and I think we need a GIANT MILITARY, but I don't like war." And I've been roped into "discussions" with some of those "Gold Standard" Libertarians, omg.

lol

I live in a red state that had zero chance of turning blue. This is, in part, because people don't feel like their vote matters. I've not met anyone who's particularly a fan of Biden, but he was certainly the better of the two options for an ungodly amount of reasons. If everyone acted like you, or with a similar mindset, there's risk of losing both the electoral college as well as the popular vote. Essentially tossing votes in the trash is like wearing a shirt that says "fuck" on it because "no one's going to tell me what I can't wear."

The great thing about tossing the electoral college is that all votes will matter and you won't have this stupid red/blue thing anymore. Third parties could get significant gains in national elections if more people thought they could vote for them "safely".

On a random side note though, amidst all the celebrations, it is worth considering how Trump is going to handle this whole grieving process thing. He really could just go nuts and say "fine, fuck you" and who knows. If anything can be credited to this guy, he never failed to surprise and shock. Just when you were done saying "he can't get any fucking crazier than that" he would do something nuts like say he and Kim Jong Un are in love and then expose secret military weapons plans. Sociopathic narcissists do stuff like that... crazy shit. I think he feels cornered, and he's flailing, and this is the most dangerous way for him to be.

He will still be 100% president for the next few months.

The Bush-Gore decision didn't happen until December 12th.

There's still plenty of time to get all this transition stuff done.

The drop-dead date for the Electoral College this year is December 8th (https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/IF/IF11641):

December 8, 2020: The “Safe Harbor” Deadline
The U.S. Code (3 U.S.C. §5) provides that if election results are contested in any state, and if the state, prior to election day, has enacted procedures to settle controversies or contests over electors and electoral votes, and if these procedures have been applied, and the results have been determined six days before the electors’ meetings, then these results are considered to be conclusive, and will apply in the counting of the electoral votes. This date, known as the “Safe Harbor” deadline, falls on December 8 in 2020. The governor of any state where there was a contest, and in which the contest was decided according to established state procedures, is required (3 U.S.C. §6) to send a certificate describing the form and manner by which the determination was made to the Archivist as soon as practicable.

December 14, 2020: Electors Vote in Their States
Monday after the second Wednesday in December of presidential election years is set (3 U.S.C. §7) as the date on which the electors meet and vote. In 2020, the meeting is on December 14. Electoral college delegations meet separately in their respective states and the District of Columbia at places designated by their state legislature. The electors vote by paper ballot, casting one ballot for President and one for Vice President. The electors count the results and then sign six certificates, each of which contains two lists, one of which includes the electoral votes for the President, the other, electoral votes for the Vice President, each of which includes the names of persons receiving votes and the number of votes cast for them. These are known as Certificates of the Vote, which the electors are required to sign. They then pair the six Certificates of Ascertainment provided by the state governors with the Certificates of the Vote, and sign, seal, and certify them (3 U.S.C. §§8-10). The six certificates are then distributed by registered mail as follows: (1) one certificate to the President of the U.S. Senate (the Vice President); (2) two certificates to the secretary of state (or equivalent officer) of the state in which the electors met; (3) two certificates to the Archivist; and (4) one certificate to the judge of the U.S. district court of the district in which the electors met (3 U.S.C. §11).

December 23, 2020: Certificates Must Be Delivered to the Designated Officials
Certificates of electoral vote results must be delivered to above mentioned officers by the fourth Wednesday in December, in 2020, by December 23 (3 U.S.C. §12).
Failure to Deliver Certificates by December 23

If the certificates from any state have not been delivered by December 23, 2020, the President of the Senate, or in their absence the Archivist, is required to request the secretary of state or equivalent officer in that state to send one of the copies they hold to the President of the Senate by registered mail (3 U.S.C. §12, 13). The Code also directs them to send a messenger to the judge of the U.S. district court in the state directing the judge to transmit the certificate they hold by “hand ... to the seat of government.”

yes, but... the debate about the Gore/Bush thing was insanely close. In this case, Trump fucking LOST. He lost the popular vote (again) and lost the electoral college. He doesn't have jack shit. He is just such a big baby and he's used to stomping his feet and getting his way. Everything about this is just unfortunate, but he will eventually put on his big boy pants (maybe with some help) and get the fuck out of my life.

At this point, if trump doesn't prove widespread voter fraud in the millions in a court of law (hint: he can't) then he is clearly guilty of treason.

These are the only two outcomes. I hope the CIA and FBI step in and do their jobs to save the country.

And Mcconnell, Barr, all of them are also guilty of treason after this plays out. Without democracy this whole thing crumbles, and they seem to want it to.

So is the plan to:

1: Refuse to give concession speech, so his supporters stay riled up
2: Spread as much misinformation about voter fraud as possible, so that it sticks
3: Have the GOP secretly congrat Biden, to keep the Democrats satisfied, while publicly still supporting Trump to spread further disinformation
4: Stack the Pentagon with loyalists to keep it on-side
5: Have a standoff with the electoral college, litigate, threaten, use Brooks Brothers riot as a playbook, etc, try to replace them with faithless electors
6: Have the election decided by the GOP in the House of Representatives (by delegation at the state level, so Red states, as there's more of them)
7: Stay President?

Am I reading this right?

in a (much closer) 1876 election, the losing candidate (Tilden) also didn't concede and it was so close that both candidates planned an inauguration day. It wasn't until two days before inauguration day that Tilden cancelled his inauguration. There was almost a gathering of people to storm the White House in a violent way, but this did not come to pass. Hayes had to be sworn in in secret. The Compromise of 1877 came from this election.

In 1916, both candidates declared victory. It wasn't until late November that the loser (Hughes) conceded.

crazy shit has happened in this country. looks like we can have a Tilden/Hughes situation here. maybe worse.

*Biden has more than seventy-eight million votes, the most in U.S. history.

Perspective:

Obama 2008, received 69,498,516 votes

Obama 2012 received 65,915,795 votes

Clinton 1992 received 44,909,889 votes

Clinton 1996 received 47,401,185 votes

Reagan 1980 received 43,903,230 votes

Voter turnout in the 2020 election is the highest in over a century. (https://www.google.com/amp/s/bypass.theweek.com/speedreads-amp/949579/2020-election-sees-highest-voter-turnout-century)

So far, 63.9 percent of Americans eligible to vote cast a ballot in the 2020 election, the highest portion since 1908's record 65.7 percent turnout. Turnout in all but eight states is projected to exceed 40-year records, with turnout in Minnesota and Wisconsin coming close to 80 percent, The Washington Post reports.

Overall, total 2020 turnout is projected to rise to 66.5 percent once all votes are tallied. That'll be the highest portion since 1900's 73.7 percent turnout among eligible voters. A much smaller voter pool was eligible to cast ballots in the 1900 and 1908 elections, as women, Asian Americans, and some Native Americans could not vote, and other non-white Americans were discouraged from voting through Jim Crow laws and intimidation.

Voter turnout has been on pace to exceed records since Americans began casting early votes weeks before the election. Increased access to voting via absentee ballots and early voting likely played a big role in driving turnout.

I know, but I still can't wrap my head around it. Imagine if the tables were reversed. Clinton won 2016, and Trump beat her in her re-election bid by 7 million votes in the popular tally and also won the electoral college by a landslide... and then Hillary Clinton went on Twitter and said "I CONCEDE NOTHING!" and then said "I won the election!"

I'm not even sure how that would play out, but I can only imagine that it would be really confusing and stupid and shitty. I honestly don't even know what his strategy is at this point. There's all this speculation that he wants to build some alt-right media empire or something... The truth is, thankfully, we ALL really know he will no longer be the sitting president after January 20th.

I really think it's just his ego can't handle the monumental loss, and he's being a baby at the expense of everyone else, like he's done every time he's lost in his life, which has usually been something nobody really sees. This time, the entire world watched him lose in every way, and he just can't take it. I really like to go with concepts like "history will remember this badly." Who fucking knows though. Is anyone expecting Trump to have a moment where he comes to a realization or something?

His dad never told him how to lose or accept defeat. He handed him a billion dollars and told him that if he ever lost he was a fucking loser... and here's what happens when you do that.

Trump is the actual living example of a narcissist. A lot of people use the term "narcissist" incorrectly when describing someone - merely describing a person that's just vain or overconfident. But Trump is a man that actually fits the psychological profile... I also know some people in life who are like this. They have no true empathy for people in the real world and no recognition of the harm or wrong they've done. They live in a facade of charm and social ego-supply to protect a very fragile and weak inner self. They will never admit to loss or fault or apologize for anything. They also view every relationship in life as transactional and conditional. It's not shocking to see him dropping people left and right when they betray his so-called loyalty.

That's why none of this surprises me, as dangerous as it is to a democracy & society.

@allegro (https://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=76) How are any of these ridiculous law suits permitted to go anywhere? If they don’t have evidence why are they able to just waste time and money here? Now they’re suing people for doing their jobs.

You've probably noticed that they aren't going anywhere. Powell is blabbing about a bunch of "evidence" on television (mostly internet conspiracy theories) but hasn't presented any evidence in court. When you don't present sufficient evidence in the fraud complaint, the complaint is tossed out.

The Pennsylvania suit was tossed with prejudice (meaning it cannot be re-filed) by a judge who's a member of the Federalist Society.

Fraud cases must follow the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, particularly strict scrutiny and Rule 9(b) (https://www.law.cornell.edu/rules/frcp/rule_9) which requires "particularity" of circumstance (who, what, when, where, how) as well as conditions of mind (malice and intent) proving that it wasn't an error.

Note that the Gore v Bush SCOTUS case is not precedent (equal protection) because Justice O'Connor purposely included language in the opinion that the opinion was NOT to be considered precedent.

The Michigan situation is interesting because Trump wants an audit before the certification, except Michigan law specifies that an audit cannot occur until after certification (https://twitter.com/JocelynBenson/status/1329907638243651584?s=20).

This is just awful, all of it. To me, it looks like a bloodless coup. Trump is bad enough, but the Republicans who are backing him make it worse. It's not that they are spineless; they aren't; they WANT him to stay in power, at all costs, even if the end result means the loss of election integrity and trust forever. Trump swore to uphold the Constitution, but he's now doing everything to undermine voters' votes.

The idiot is pissed that auditors can't "check signatures" on the envelopes of absentee ballots during audits.

What the FUCK is THAT supposed to do? The envelopes aren't attached to any BALLOTS. You don't know for whom that envelope voted!!

The envelopes come in, the signatures on the envelopes are checked against the logs and then - if they MATCH - the ballot (which contains NO SIGNATURE) is removed from the envelope and SEPARATED FROM THE ENVELOPE, deliberately, because VOTING IS PRIVATE.

Voting booths are PRIVATE, too.

When you vote in person, you sign a log and a voting judge checks it against your signature on record. You then go into a booth and your IDENTITY IS NOT KNOWN IN THAT BOOTH.

Trump somehow thinks that the envelope with the person's signature is stapled to the ballots or something. Because Trump IS A FUCKING MORON.

And his supporters are EVEN DUMBER. They're circulating YouTube videos on Twitter, losing their shit because the vids are showing election workers shredding envelopes. I commented on Twitter that this is perfectly legal. Someone responded "only after a set amount of time." I responded, "cite the GA law." She couldn't. I responded, "because the ballots are PRIVATE, you NEVER SIGN BALLOTS, your envelope CANNOT be traced back to ballots AND THAT IS INTENTIONAL."

Silence.

Duh.

There are all these Q people, especially from other countries, all over Twitter, "They stole Trump's Presidency, now we will steal Biden's."

Except they spent 8 years harassing Obama (they're still on there claiming Obama was born in Kenya, runs a pedo ring, etc.) and they spent 8 years before THAT harassing Bill Clinton, and Hillary, too, relentlessly. Before that, they were evil to Jimmy Carter and his family.

Republicans want a fucking Banana Republic. That’s no exaggeration, it’s reality.

Meanwhile, Trump just ordered a recount in Georgia, which he can do because the margin was so slim. Except Georgia just did a hand-counted audit, which is more accurate than a machine recount. This recount will be at the cost of Georgia taxpayers, and risks the workers getting Covid (again).

And I hope this really motivates Georgia Democrats to vote in the two Democratic Senators on January 5th.

Look what he Trump did in Michigan this weekend! Invited the Republican leaders of the Michigan House and Senate to the White House (while Covid is raging in Michigan and another shutdown is inevitable). They accepted, FLEW COMMERCIAL, then attended a party at the Trump Hotel in D.C. complete with champagne toasts all around.

Michigan Electors MUST vote for whomever won the popular vote in Michigan - UNLESS MICHIGAN LEGISLATORS CHANGE THE LAW.

Oh, no signs of impropriety THERE. Wtf.

Republican Congress and the Republican state legislators across the country are controlling the show - and SUPPORTED BY THEIR CONSTITUENTS - in the interest of upholding this system which is slowly (more rapidly, lately) approaching a Banana Republic, and that is not an exaggeration. The VERY relatively few progressives on the left will be shut down via LAW AND ORDER and flagrant cheating and suppression in order to keep this plutocracy intact.

There are a number of typos in the filing, including the word “district” spelled incorrectly twice in the first two lines of the front page – once as “districct” and then as “distrcoict”. It also twice misspells the name of witness William M. Briggs as “William Higgs” and “Williams M. Briggs”.

Trump isn't going ANYWHERE. TRUMPISM isn't going anywhere.

He's still the most powerful voice in the republican party. House and Senate hopefuls on the right will win primaries based on their loyalty to trump.

Current republican lawmakers will continue to do his bidding, for fear of being on the bad end of a tweet from Jesus Trump, and, thus incurring the wrath of his army of eighty something million twitter followers.

This isn't over.

MAGA isn't over.

Trump and his allies said that they were going to pull something like this back in September/October. If Biden had just squeaked by in a few states (100k-ish) maybe Trump could have pulled off "winning" another term by cheating. But with Biden ahead nationally by six million votes and with healthy leads in several key swing-states, it ain't happening.

My hope is that after the dust has settled, more and more people will see Trump for the bully/asshole that he is and that his grip over a large segment of the population will fade over time. My fear is that someone else will come along, another Trump, but will be smoother, more "statesman" like and people will fall for this person, the way they did for Trump.

Even after four years of Trump, 74 million Americans wanted ANOTHER FOUR YEARS! Amazing, so many Americans were willing to embrace an autocrat.

There will always be another, some twisted broken narcissist who latches onto opportunity there, with angry pissed off morons who hate feminists and vegans and liberalism... whatever is strange and unfamiliar to them...and that opportunity will probably always be there. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that angry stupid people are easy to manipulate. If you have Amazon Prime watch this documentary called Evocateur :The Morton Downey Jr Movie. It’s fascinating.

My fear about Trump trying to hold onto power doesn't reside in his failing court cases, it rests with these major Pentagon/intelligence/Advisory Board changes he's made since election day. I understand an actual military coup is basically impossible, but him installing a great number of loyalists at this point stinks to high heaven & no one can say exactly WHY he's doing this.

And now we see that Prince Jared is headed to Saudi Arabia & Qatar tomorrow with a small groups of WH advisors. All of this reeks.

of desperation. It’s over, and what he’s doing is just insane. Just keep his fingers off the nuclear button for the next month and a half and we will be ok.

As long as Trump doesn’t start a nuclear war, he’s toast. If he does, we are all done I guess.

the thing I could never figure out about people who like trump is this:

yes ok I agree. the system is insanely corrupted. its a really evil system, with a lot of really wicked men running things. plenty of these people need to be wiped out. fine, ok. I 100% agree with that.

Im with these people on that point of view... I get it.

What I cant figure out is... Why the hell do they think Trump is BETTER than any of those other people, When he is clearly more evil, power hungry and straight up stupid than any of them that I've come across in my life time.

It truly boggles the mind.

A lot of it is plain ol' magical thinking/conspiracy theory mentality. Once you buy in, no amount of convincing evidence presented before you will dissuade — gradually, the cognitive dissonance becomes too great to bear, and parts of your 'old' personality from before you went down that path begin to drop away. It's happening a lot this year with people I knew vaguely because they're sitting at home with nothing to do but stare at the confirmation-bias machine in their hands.

Do they think he's better or is he just representing their interests more clearly?

He is honest, even in his lies. He can be trusted to only serve his own interests and not those of other politicians, scientists or field experts. I guess that gives people the feeling that they too can do whatever they want?

William Barr has now just stated that the justice dept found no evidence of widespread voter fraud that could have changed the outcome of the election.

Does that mean this ridiculous bullshit is over finally?

In between laughing, both men reflected on the idea that an alleged government cover-up of alien life was once regarded as the biggest conspiracy theory going.

“It used to be that UFOs and Roswell was the biggest conspiracy. And now that seems so tame, the idea that the government might have an alien spaceship,” opined Mr Obama.

Zinged Colbert, “Now the biggest conspiracy is [that] people in Michigan vote (https://www.news.com.au/world/north-america/us-politics/republican-election-officials-threatened-during-zoom-call-for-refusing-to-certify-michigan-results/news-story/61cde459c0a60f54289206a87f089cd9).”

because of English and it's dumb rules it's been determined that whomever it is, their last name ends in an s because the redaction doesn't cover the ' at the end of the possessive usage.

Wait, what? Ohhhhhhhhh, okay, I’m seeing it, now.

My last name ends with an “s,” too.

When denoting possession with surname ending with an “s,”, you don’t add ANOTHER “s” after the apostrophe; you just add an apostrophe at the end of the surname to denote possession.

Mr. Jones’ cat.

So, yeah, I see it in that document.

Smells like Rick GATES.
