Firstly, because I just read this in trying to find out more:who other than the Supreme Court has jurisdiction on the land of the United States? Is this what he's referring to?both quotes are from this (https://www.scotusblog.com/2020/07/opinion-analysis-justices-toe-hard-line-in-affirming-reservation-status-for-eastern-oklahoma/)blog.

Secondly, this (https://www.vox.com/2020/7/10/21318796/supreme-court-mcgirt-oklahoma-native-american-neil-gorsuch)is what I was alluding to: So reading that actually explains my original question in that this wasn't about the rape, it was about who can prosecute the rape.

Hey I learned myself something.
Learning is awesome:-) You are exactly correct. This involves jurisdiction, aka “proper venue.”
If the treaty stands, it’s to be tried in a Federal court; if it doesn’t, it’s tried in the Oklahoma state court system.

Gorsuch’s opinion begins:

“Today we are asked whether the land these treaties promised remains an Indian reservation for purposes of federal criminal law. Because Congress has not said otherwise, we hold the government to its word.”

The law blog sums is up:

As Indian law cases go, the dispute in this one is easy to understand: whether the land once granted to the Creek Nation as a reservation retains that status. The majority of five says that it does, because Congress has not adopted any single statute that explicitly terminates that status; the dissenters say that it does not, reasoning that the total body of congressional intrusions in the area, culminating in the development of eastern Oklahoma as a predominantly non-Native American area, adequately illustrates Congress’ intent to disestablish the reservation.

Gorsuch begins by documenting the clarity of the historical record establishing the creation of the Creek reservation: a series of treaties and statutes that, among other things “solemnly guarantied” the land to the tribe, “forever set apart as a home for said Creek Nation,” “no portion [of which] shall ever be embraced or included within … any Territory or State.”

Gorsuch then turns to the question of whether “the Creek Reservation persists today,” recognizing “that Congress has since broken more than a few of its promises to the Tribe,” and that Congress unquestionably has the raw power to disregard those promises and destroy the reservation. On that point, Gorsuch emphasizes that the power to terminate the reservation “belongs to Congress alone,” and that “this Court [will not] lightly infer such a breach.” Introducing a theme that dominates the opinion, he explains that “States have no authority to reduce federal reservations lying within their borders”; giving States that power “would … leave tribal rights in the hands of the very neighbors who might be least inclined to respect them.”

It goes back way before that, actually.

Here is a good timeline: http://www.liberalparty.org/LPofNY/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/TimelineofImportantUSPoliticalParties.pdf

Democrats used to be "socially conservative and economically liberal."

If things had stayed EXACTLY the same as back then, I'd be a Republican right now.

There's no way he could humiliate himself THAT much by saying something like that to his minions of "uneducated" by thinking THEY all didn't know this shit.

An excellent article:

The point isn’t that the cognitive test is easy. The point is that Trump keeps bragging about it. (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/07/10/point-isnt-that-cognitive-test-is-easy-point-is-that-trump-keeps-bragging-about-it/)

For example, the test asks you to draw an analog clock showing 11:10 not to see if you’re smart enough to draw a clock but, instead, to evaluate whether there’s any impairment that would prevent you from doing so. To you and me (presumably), such a task is simple — because our brains can quickly work out how to complete the task. Draw a circle. Write the numbers in the circle. Add the hour and minute hands and done.

Each of those steps, though, measures some cognitive ability. The circle itself. The positioning of the numbers, which requires more planning ahead than you might consider. The placement of the hands from center to number. These are simple, discrete tasks that a normal brain can easily complete — as readily as one can recite the alphabet. If you have impaired cognitive functioning, though, it’s not easy at all.

All of this is why the test itself shouldn’t be scoffed at for being easy. All of this is also why one shouldn’t brag about doing well on the test.

Which brings us to Trump’s recent invocation of the cognitive test he took. The president and his allies have invested a lot of energy in questioning former vice president Joe Biden’s mental acuity, given the likelihood that Trump and Biden will face off in November.

At a news conference late last month, a Fox News reporter asked the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee if he had been tested for cognitive decline.

“I’ve been tested. I’m constantly tested,” Biden replied, apparently meaning in the abstract and not with specific tests like the one Trump took. “Look, all you’ve got to do is watch me — and I can hardly wait to compare my cognitive capability to the cognitive capability of the man I’m running against.”

When Trump called into Sean Hannity’s Fox News show last night, Hannity raised the interaction, showing a series of incidents in which Biden stumbled over words.

Trump, oddly, insisted that Biden must have meant tests for the coronavirus, which Biden clearly didn’t. But then Trump raised his own cognitive test.

“I actually took one when I — very recently, when I when I was, you know, the radical left was saying, ‘Is he all there? Is he all there?’ And I proved I was all there because I — I aced the test,” Trump claimed. “And he should take the same exact test. The very standard test; I took it at Walter Reed Medical Center in front of doctors."

Trump then turned it up a bit.

“And they were very surprised,” Trump said of the doctors. “They said that’s an unbelievable thing. Rarely does anybody do what you just did.”

No. That did not happen. Or, at least, it didn’t happen without a qualifier like, “rarely does anybody your age not demonstrate any of the impairments this test is meant to measure,” which is possible. But the doctors did not call this “an unbelievable thing.” It would be like my fawning over your alphabet recitation: “Wow, you even nailed the L-M-N-O-P.”

Getting a perfect score is literally the baseline for being normal, not for being exceptional.

y'know, I wonder if one of the reasons Trump actually brags about acing that cognitive test could be because he actually thought it was challenging. Like, was he furrowing his brow and slowly saying to himself "which one is the lion... if 1 is A and 2 is B, then what is 3... geez, that's a tough one, I might have to guess."

That 1-a-2-b-3-c one was the one that gave me the most trouble when I did the tests, mostly because I kept forgetting the rule of number-letter-number. Which was key to the results because it was all of the memory tests that I did poorly on. Remember these five numbers, have a conversation, then recite the numbers. That kind of thing.

But at least I can admit I have a problem and have worked on ways to get around it.

I am growing increasingly uneasy with the way there seems to be a fight staged between Fauci and Trump. Of COURSE Trump is all over that, but don't put Fauci in this stupid position. Just let him try to help people. It reminds me of schoolyard fights where all the kids who aren't actually brawling are hyping up the after-school showdown.

But it was only a matter of time before Fauci had to hit back. You can't just let this bullshit go on, you have to at least address it: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/07/trump-fauci-coronavirus-pandemic-oppo/614224/

EDIT: Does ANYONE really, honestly believe that Peter Navarro went "rogue" in writing this op ed bashing Fauci? Seriously, they want me to believe they didn't run this by Trump's team? If that's true, fire him NOW. It is completely unfitting with Trump's ego that he would be ok with people on his team writing rogue op-ed's that completely backfire.

The predecessors just equivocated and never really answered. That’s what you’re SUPPOSED to do.

“I have not been apprised of that information, but I’ll get back to you,”

“I’m afraid that would be up to the President, himself, to discuss, I’m sorry.”

“Let me look into that and I’ll let you know.”

“I’m sure the President is aware, but I can’t tell you the details.”

I think she has the binder because she thinks she’s supposed to actually answer these questions.

Except she can never REALLY answer the questions because the answer changes every two seconds.

So, she’s supposed to have GENERIC answers prepared. She should know her topics well in advance, so she knows how to punt.

She doesn’t.

Justice Roberts in the DACA opinion:

“We do not decide whether DACA or its rescission are sound policies. The wisdom of those decisions is none of our concern. Here we address only whether the Administration complied with the procedural requirements in the law that insist on 'a reasoned explanation for its action.'”

The ONLY thing the DACA opinion did was state that an Executive Order can REMOVE an Executive Order.

It did NOT argue the VALIDITY of said Executive Order, or lack thereof. It only stated that the Department of Homeland Security (the Plaintiff) required proper reasoning and proper standing for bringing the suit, which it did not.

Trump is a moron.

If he tries establishing a new healthcare system via an EO by removing the ACA, he will cause CHAOS in the healthcare industry beyond anything ever experienced in history. It is customary that each portrait is officially unveiled during the term of the successor President. The official portrait of the First Lady is also unveiled.

It really seems to be gaining momentum, and I wonder if a lot of the people with Q-styled avatars or T-shirts or bumper stickers even really know what the hell it's insinuating. It's like, Trump is secretly Captain America, and he's undercover in the deep state to put a stop to satanic Democrat pizza sex-traffic-ring that's all funded by George Soros... That's the basics of it I think. I have a really hard time believing that there's a LOT of people who believe this, but that's seriously deranged.

well, depending on which tin foil hat you want to wear, JFK (and RFK by extension) was the Mafia so not really because they were bad people, just going up against worse people. In this case you have Trump who is the bad people and the worse people are the one's he's working for. You know, back with the tin foil.

I mean off hand most assassination attempts were against people trying to do good in the world, right? I'm sure there are examples for bad people being assassinated but me sitting here and not researching anything it seems most of them were. So, checks and balances. How goes everyone’s faith in these? I’ve been a US citizen for maybe 6 months now, and I’ve gotten myself a lovely Barnes and Noble hardback on the Constitution, replete with the Federalist Papers and the like. It's fascinating stuff- that First Amendment for example.

It's very clear to me that the machinations of checks and balances are not guaranteed, but instead agreed upon, to work. So if enough people decide not to enforce them, they won't work, and democracy / the American experiment gets knocked on its ass.

Reason why I’m asking, is because everyone, literally everyone, expects Trump to lose the election, but try to stay in power.

I personally think such an attempt would fail first time out, but we have Storm Troopers on the streets, and that's clearly the work of Bill Barr. I don't like the odds that such an attempt would be unsuccessful in 5 years, if Trump actually wins this time out. I suspect this is the gambit, too.

The system isn’t stupid but we never had a God damned shitty reality TV show host and failed real estate mogul as PRESIDENT, before. Put there by only 74,000 Electoral College votes, and the EC was SUPPOSEDLY there to PREVENT people like him from getting IN there. But the recent SCOTUS decision about faithless electors insured THAT is a useless premise, which means the Electoral College is now being used for tyranny.

He’s controlling the POST OFFICE, now, to slow / eliminate votes. If his storm troopers get overwhelming, I don’t know what’s next; state police vs. storm troopers? Congress will have to 25th Amendment him.

He’s DESTROYED the Republican Party. They pretty much have to jettison it and rebuild from the ground-up. They MAY have to start a new party. The current one has been commandeered by white supremacists and nationalists.

Trump is literally whining about Fauci being more popular than him... so he pointed out that Fauci "was against" his decision to block travel to China (this is a lie, he's been called out on it several times, he keeps repeating it), claims that Fauci said that decision saved tens of thousands of lives (he didn't, and the CDC has pretty much concluded that the China travel ban did little to really stop the transmission into the US).

And then Trump says, really, verbatim, "He's got this high approval rating, so, why don't I have a high approval rating?"

BECAUSE HE'S TELLING THE TRUTH AND YOU ARE LYING, you unbelievable ASSHOLE! You are lying about what he's saying, what all the data is saying, you're afraid to have him near you during these "breifings" where you don't have any medical professionals present to talk to the press...

And when he's called out about cancelling a meeting about lowering drug prices, he mocks the person who asks him for "being so upset about it" and then cut her off.

Oh yeah, and he still won't admit that the studies say Hydroxychloroquine doesn't do anything to help fight this. He cannot admit it. He goes so far as to deny that it has potentially harmful side effects. He can't admit he was wrong.

the banning of TikTok is such a waste of time and a distraction to his complete failure of handling the pandemic.

150k + have died
thousands are in the hospital and will be passing soon
many more thousands will have lasting effects from this
unemployment benefits are being fought over while people are struggling to put food on their table or pay rent. evictions will most likely happen at some point during this pandemic.
kids and teachers being forced back to school in the middle of a pandemic. data shows that kids over 10 transmit it at the same rate as adults. multiple stories of teens getting ill and effecting school and life events this summer

but here we are, focusing on tik tok. all because it's the app that trolled him for tulsa where one of his fellow anti-mask Republicans caught the virus and died.

screw talking about tik tok. I wish the media would 24/7 talk about nothing other than the incompetence he has and hold his feet to the fire more. just this past week, a close co-worker lost both her sister and her aunt (two different states) from the virus. that's now 16 people I know who lost someone from the virus.

make masks a national mandate
close schools

I know those 3 things won't happen. but this is what the media should be focusing on 24/7, imo. do not let up. don't let him get an inch. don't let him distract. because it'll just rally up his base more.

the goal for us is to make sure he's not elected again. that is not the goal of the media. the media's goal is revenue and ratings. trump brings them that. they don't care if he wins again, tv personality outrage be damned.

TikTok is a shithole. It copies the contents of your clipboard on iOS on average every 2-3 seconds. Worse yet, iOS shares its clipboard with shared environments like your iPad or your MacBook Pro. InfoSec experts have determined that this is not by accident. Many other apps access your clipboard on iOS. This isn’t good. Delete those apps.

But TikTok is a Trojan Horse (https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2020/06/26/warning-apple-suddenly-catches-tiktok-secretly-spying-on-millions-of-iphone-users/).

That being said, Microsoft BUYING TikTok can / will lead to fixing that issue.

(Apple should have shut down the app until the issue was removed but that’s another topic.)

Trump doesn’t want China to profit from the sale of TikTok; he doesn’t want those TikTok Teens to have a platform to continue ruining his Twitter feed with KPop vids, etc.

I don’t even think he CAN ban TikTok but let’s see. We are living in Stalinesque America, now.

Yeah, I don't think Trump really is concerned about security here, even though it's a legitimate issue. That just give him clearance to go after the app that Kpop fans used to troll his comeback rally.

Piss off Kpop fans so that the ones that turn 18 vote for Biden.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/24/us/politics/election-interference-russia-china-iran.html

Exactly. They already knew that both Russia and China had attempted hacks into the RNC and DNC relatively recently. They know that China and Russia were influencing the election in favor of Trump and Iran is against Trump. If China flips on Trump, whatever. Because BOTH sides are being infiltrated, but MOSTLY in favor of Trump by Russia. And then Trump is using his position as President to basically conduct a Coup. He’s using the Post Office as a weapon toward election interference. And I hope he and DeJoy go to Federal prison for this, alone (it’s a Federal crime to mess with the mail service).

Don’t get me wrong: I’m not saying I want to see China or Iran hack the election and change results. That’s wrong. But if they infiltrate social media, just like Russia does, and fill it with anti-Trump propaganda and “October surprises,” thereby “influencing the election with FACTS,” then fucking go for it.

Since Bloomberg never came through with HIS threats promises.

I’ve been donating $ to the Lincoln Project* because the DNC is in the fucking 60s. I get texts from DNC volunteers asking if I want to make PHONE CALLS. I answer no, because phone calls and canvassing have been proven to do absolutely nothing, and what we need is big social media presence and advertising.

@allegro (https://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=76), the exception I'll say to phone calls, and maybe this is apples and oranges, but is what Ted Lieu has done. It's the only effective form of "political telemarketing" I've seen, where at first you think you're getting a spam call, and then I was asked if I'd like to ask my congressman a question, and if I'd be willing to wait in line to participate in a telephone town hall... and you had republicans calling in and screaming at him, and he handled it gracefully, and then dismantled their points respectfully. He took as many questions as he could, and he gave well thought out, patient answers.

I kept thinking the whole time that THIS is what you should be doing if you want to get me feeling involved when I'm sitting here, doing nothing. It was great. A few months later I got another blind call to join another Ted Lieu town hall.

Unfortunately, that's the only sort of thing even remotely related to telephone canvasing that I've found interesting.

oh for sure... I guess I just felt it was worth remarking upon, because he obviously had a team put together handling questions and working with the wait line, it would have needed some planning and organization.

And it felt immersive and kind of important in how it involved me. I hardly knew who Ted Lieu was before that blind town hall call, and I found myself looking him up. He's great.

I guess I'm just saying that I think phones work, people just aren't using them right. Cold calling me up and urging me to vote for someone doesn't do shit... but inviting me to ask a politician a question directly in front of an open forum? Engaging voters (in a discussion that could potentially be huge if you really put some cash funding into it) is the end goal I think...

Hacking with facts. Huh. I don't even know what to say about that idea because it...really shouldn't be necessary...but also clearly might be?

I mean, plenty of damning factual information is already out there and it's not remotely hidden. I wonder what, at this point, would have to be revealed for Trump's base to step away from him. Honestly asking.

If there was video of him fucking someone underage at an Epstein party, would that do it? My first thought was—I'm unfortunately not joking here—"she'd have to look pre-teen for them to really get upset."

Sigh.

If China hacked his data, then posted all of it in clickbait articles on Facebook and what it revealed was that he was 100% funded by Russia, would that eat into his base? Dude still polls at 40% with Likely Voters.

First thing I thought of that would definitely eat into his base: Documented evidence that Trump knew about 9/11 in advance and asked them to just aim away from his Tower. It honestly feels to me like that's the kind of shit that would have to come out.

Unfortunately I don't think that either of the examples you've mentioned would do it.

He's made comments about fucking his own daughter, and openly talked about liking young women (which at some points could have been taken as meaning young enough to be creepy as fuck but not young enough to be illegal, but now seems likely to have meant something else).

And Kushner also cancelled his national testing plan because they thought the virus would ravage democratic states and that they could then blame the governors and that it would help him politically, so realistically we already know that he's allowed death tolls many, many times higher than 9/11 because he thought they wouldn't hurt his interests.

His supporters are a lost cause, they will never stop believing, they're too far into the cult fanaticism. It would take interventions on a mass scale.

That's not a thing. Hacking involves hacking, which involves breaking and entering. Propaganda is propaganda, which is usually NOT facts. Massive advertising campaigns is what we discussed, above.

I wonder what, at this point, would have to be revealed for Trump's base to step away from him.
NOBODY is trying to sway Trump's base. NOBODY. That's useless.

Trump's base is estimated to be only 38% of voters. If that. Some of them already shifted away. But, what's left is solidly there, and nobody is interested in converting them.

What advertising is aimed at is Republican voters who aren't Trump's base, and Independents. And Democrats; getting MORE Democrats out to vote; INCREASING the Democratic voting base.

It's already estimated that a HUGE number of young voters will turn 18 this year, and most of them are NOT going to be voting for Trump. Efforts are under way to be sure they get registered and that they VOTE. NOT for Trump.

Elderly voters; many had voted for Trump. But then Trump didn’t protect them during a pandemic, and Trump is demanding that payroll taxes be reduced (payroll taxes ONLY affect funding for Social Security and Medicare and reducing payroll taxes threatens both). Elderly often vote by mail; Trump is now against that, and his new Postmaster General is deliberately slowing down mail. This could force the elderly - the most vulnerable Covid population - to the polls during this pandemic.

I don’t think anyone is truly undecided.

I think something TRULY HORRIBLE about Trump can still be released that could be a turning point for all but the Trump cult members.

Those who then refuse to vote for Trump might not vote for Biden, but not voting for Trump would be good enough.

The reality is that the Trump cult hates liberals. They refer to liberals as a “disease,” a “mental illness,” as “evil,” etc. This is mostly rooted in the irrational fear of taxation, and racism. Lots and lots of racism. I’d venture to say that the main motivation of the Trump cult is racism.

He is under the mistaken impression that mail-in ballots are when the Secretary of State mails a bunch of ballots, totally unsolicited, to voters, whether they’re registered or not. Like junk mail.

This, he believes, leads to voter fraud and ballot harvesting.

Except states are mailing ballot APPLICATIONS after they’ve been REQUESTED. These ballot applications must pass the same strict scrutiny as any other.

And ballot harvesting happens with absentee ballots, too.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballot_collection

Having a caregiver or family member deliver your ballot to the clerk’s office or post office is thought, to them, as suspicious. But it’s also the method used most by minorities since many do not have transportation.

I guess he gave him an interview in 2018 that Swan was criticized for his handling of... where apparently he was caught "smirking" at a DACA gotcha moment, but the end political fallout was nothing. Trump probably perceived this to be another thing where he could say dumb shit and this guy would hurt his own cause by reveling in Trump's stupidity.

Trump obviously doesn't know or care, unless someone decides to make this a dunk-on-the-media talking point... Yosemite is a made-up word anyway, it's a European corruption of the name of the Indigenous band who lived there for hundreds if not thousands of years, the Ahwahnechee (who called the valley Ahwahne). Californian militia troops burned their villages to the ground in 1851, and starved them of their food stores. They couldn't even properly pronounce the name of the group they were committing genocide against. So we called the place they used to live Yosemite. Guess you learn something new everyday?

I thought all Americans knew that word when they saw it.

If you have a learning disability or you aren’t American or you’re 10, maybe then you couldn’t pronounce it.

Like, I’d never seen “Antigone” spelled out, before. So, phonetically, it looked like “anti-gone” instead of “an-TIG-uh-knee.” But Americans grow up seeing Yosemite as part of our culture all the time.

Are you defending Trump by misdirecting to a totally different topic?

The point isn’t really about Yosemite.

You’re Canadian. I don’t think you grok this. Yosemite is THE biggest tourist destination in the United States. It has, as Trump mentions, “Old Faithful,” among other geological interests, flora and fauna. Every American child can read that word. It makes zero phonetic sense, but so do lots of other words so it has do be memorized. It requires comprehension while reading. That’s obviously NOT happening, here.

If Trump read “ Ahwahne,” exactly ZERO Americans (probably even living Native Americans) would know WTF he was talking about. True communication requires a message to be sent and understood by its intended audience.

But when he read “Old Faithful” and “Yo Semite” - ALL AMERICANS KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT. And they knew he was reading but not comprehending. Because there is an issue, there.

But then again, that would take humility, which might be construed as a flavor of weakness. Instead, we got the show of strength that is the president of a whole country hosting a meeting—a meeting with the express purpose of discussing both how his country's National Park system is incredibly important and how he has, in his wisdom and stable genius, come up with the idea to revitalize it—in which it seems he knows little about his own nation, as he has evidently never seen in print or said aloud the name of one of its most famous places. A place which is actually a solid economic driver for its state and is pretty consistently (https://travel.usnews.com/rankings/best-usa-vacations/) ranked as the one of the very best destinations to visit, for natives and foreign tourists alike.

That’s my issue, here. I’m the last person to take issue with learning disabilities. My Mom and brother have dyslexia. I tutored children with reading problems. There’s no shame in it. I’ve also helped people with public speaking. I have a degree in communication.

My issue is that he doesn’t PRACTICE his speeches. It’s obvious. If he’d at least be COGNIZANT of this issue, he could HIDE this issue. But he obviously sees it as a weakness. If he read the speech in advance, practiced, they’d have highlighted that word or spelled it out phonetically for him so that he wouldn’t stumble. There are ways to ASSIST public speakers with these issues.

I’m using the word “issue” too much. And IDGAF. Sorry.

Are you defending Trump by misdirecting to a totally different topic?
Did I defend him? No. Are we talking about a word that he used? Yes. That word has its origins in a genocide. Should anybody give a fuck how you pronounce it? I'm not sure, but people are making a deal about it because... it fills a news cycle, I guess?

I do see your point about how no one is correcting Trump, making him work, or coaching him to pretend like he understands things he says, but this is such a minor example.

You’re Canadian. I don’t think you grok this. Yosemite is THE biggest tourist destination in the United States. It has, as Trump mentions, “Old Faithful,” among other geological interests, flora and fauna. Every American child can read that word. It makes zero phonetic sense, but so do lots of other words (“Illinois” and “Des Plaines”) so it has do be memorized. It requires comprehension while reading. That’s obviously NOT happening, here.
We're constantly inundated with American culture and media, and consequently I do know what Yosemite National Park refers to. Isn't the "Old Faithful" geyser in Yellowstone National Park (formerly home to Tukudika people)?

If Trump read “ Ahwahne,” exactly ZERO Americans (probably even living Native Americans) would know WTF he was talking about.
So? It takes a few seconds to explain. The irony is that people 'correcting' his pronunciation don't realize any of this, as I pointed out. The American narrative has erased the word's origin.

Old Faithful is indeed in Yellowstone, @botley (https://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=469) and I are "villagers" since we are from Kanata and Uluru is a freaking huuuuuuuge rock in Australia.

And technically, all words in every languages that ever existed are "made up". I'm a French lit BA, semantic is my friend so don't make me go all @Sesquipedalism (https://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=287) on you all.

I think you might not see it how we do because you didn’t live in the USA all your life. For a functioning adult who has lived his entire life in the USA, hugs the USA flag, says he’s the most patriotic person... and he can’t read the word “Yosemite?!” That would be like if he had a hard time saying “apple pie” or “baseball.”

I actually do think there’s something wrong with him, and when he goes around celebrating that he passed the “very hard” basic cognitive exam, it doesn’t help his case. Maybe he is hiding that he has a reading disability, maybe it’s much more serious. It’s even worse that he does it TWICE in a row though... if he just flubbed it once, but no, he repeats, as if to correct himself, and says it wrong again.

In a month, Trump will hold a rally and proudly say the word “Yosemite” correctly, and his supporters will lose their fucking minds applauding... just like they did when he managed to drink a glass of water with one hand

It’s hilarious but I’ve never been in ONE of those national parks out west. Zero interest. NADA. Don’t wanna see a fucking geyser. (Yellowstone, I thought that’s where Yogi Bear lives.) Or a bunch of idiots camping. Or get eaten by a bear. I’ve gone skiing in the Sierra-Nevadas and I’m cool with that. And I can pronounce “Donner Pass.” LOL.

It’s what’s for dinner!

I CAN, however, tell you the Native American story about the Sleeping Bear and her cubs in northern Michigan and how they formed the Manitou islands! Every Michigan kid knows that! :)

Everyone should see the Grand Canyon. It's insane, all of that part of Arizona, the Painted Desert etc... it's kind of mind blowing. I didn't expect to be as wowed as I was, especially because I remember seeing it as a kid and thinking it was "neat."

On that note, I haven't been to Yosemite since I was a little kid, and I have no memory of it. Maybe I never even was there; maybe everything I know is a lie. I still can spell it and say it out loud, and I know where it is.

The first time I knew of Yosemite, was Yosemite Sam. I was a child of the 80s, and I grew up in the middle of nowhere.

Surely the Angry Cheeto had time in the 80s in between dragging his knuckles across the ground to watch a cartoon?

Regardless, I learned about ALL of the national parks in middle school. When I heard Yosemite, it all clicked for me. Not that hard. I'm fairly certain the kids who decided to drop out of school still knew how to pronounce that word.

I just makes my blood boil. The end game is that this flaming pile of shit doesn't care about anything.

Not sure how I feel about how this will play out. We're in trouble. If anything this current break down, spurred on by the virus, has been a long time coming. *cough* as a, uh, former serviceperson I can confirm this is not true. It's the constitution, and that's it. Yeah he's the boss but that doesn't mean much when it comes to brass tacks.

https://www.thebalancecareers.com/military-orders-3332819

The military oath taken at the time of induction into the military is as follows:"I,____________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God"

Notice the oath states, “I will obey the orders of the President of the United States...”, but the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) Article 90 states that military personnel need to obey the "lawful orders of his/her superior. The duty and obligation to obey lawful orders creates no grey area for discussion. But does the military member have a duty to DISOBEY “unlawful orders” including orders of senior officers, Secretary of Defense and even the President of the United States? The UCMJ actually protects the soldier in this situation as he/she has a moral and legal obligation to the Constitution and not to obey unlawful orders and the people who issue them.

These have to be strong examples of a direct violation of the Constitution and the UCMJ and not the military member’s own opinion.
it's wriggly sure because it's kind of like the porn argument (you know it when you see it) but it's not fealty by any stretch.

except it is not a gun control issue. we will still have the 2a (and it’s implications) if the nra was dissolved. the nra was used to funnel russian money to trump in the 2016 election. of course trump the liar would twist it. that’s what he does. russian meddling in the election has left us with the worst person in charge during a pandemic. the AG is doing her job by taking action. this is what she’s supposed to do.

we still have to do what’s right even if it’s viewed as political. the reason we are stuck with the fake president during the pandemic is because the GOP chose to be political instead of doing what’s right at the impeachment trial. if they had chosen removal, maybe (i know it’s a stretch) pence and pelosi would’ve come up with a testing plan and we’d be on the other side of the pandemic. a month and a half ago trump said he told his people to slow the testing down. congress has done nothing about that. they should’ve had special hearings on what could be done about testing and find out if there’s anything malicious happening to slowing down testing. people are dying daily. a rapid testing and tracing plan two months ago could’ve made a huge difference in where we are right now. none of that happened because the senate dems don’t want to be political. they’re waiting for america to vote him out. fuck all the senate for doing nothing during the pandemic. $1200 isn’t shit. fix the testing so we can go back to life.

The fact he was even elected shows how broken our political system is. To tell me my attitude is why he was elected is part of the problem why he's even here. He's not some magic anomaly that just appeared like the Antichrist. He's the symptom of a consistent issue that's festered ever since the unlawful 2000 presidential election, in my opinion. People were sick of establishment trash and after Obama was just another run of the mill politician who essentially did fuck all but keep us on the track with the war on terrorism, keep Guantanamo Bay open, etc who promised us better people were bitter for the same stuff. Some moderates, left leaning individuals and republicans took a gamble on this fool. Not saying I agree with it but neither choice in 2016 was worth a damn to me anyways.

I call him a lame duck because his ratings are in the toilet, he's largely the most disrespected President in US history on both sides of the awful two party system we got and the democratic portion of congress burnt their bridge with him ages ago. As for the GOP, they suck his cock because he's a right wing corporatist closest to their ideals. When Trump goes, pricks like Mitch McConnell will still be there to continue the bullshit. For November, it's widely possible Trump's probably gonna be on his way out at this rate. He's a disgraced, weak president who is visibly rotting in 2020 showing how hollow he really is a leader.

I know the official definition of a lame duck but he never struck me as a strong president and never a competent one. He's only obsessed with his public image and ego. That was always priority and the only ever thing he acted like he truly cared about when on camera. He likes to keep face like all of them but the wheels are coming off finally. You'd have to be the BIGGEST sycophant in the world to think he's a good president and to defend him now.

TLDR; I don't take symbolism and waste of time shit serious when it comes to Trump. It's endless. That's why I said I don't take the shit like Rushmore seriously. I heard more people up in arms over his antics on camera than actual legislation he proposes and champions for. If people do on here I'm not privy to it because I largely choose to not talk politics online.

There's nothing laughable to me about a narcissist who is willing to cut anyone's throat in order to retain power and adoration.

Just to be clear that’s not what a lame duck is.

to tell me my attitude is why he was elected is part of the problem why he's even here

no it really is not... and that’s circular logic... we’re about to accuse each other of accusing each other of things

and I really don’t intend to seem like I’m coming at you here, I think we agree. I just flinch when people say he shouldn’t be taken seriously. I know he’s ridiculous. But... it just reminds me of when HUFFPO refused to cover Trump under politics and instead relegated him to “entertainment”

I looked up the definition of a lame duck before I tossed the word out there to refresh my 6th grade knowledge prior to posting. It's basically a worthless president on his way out. I consider Trump as such. Only fault with me labeling him one is that there's not elected official after him while he's in his last term. I mostly just consider the term a definition for labelling something worthless.

My jaded opinion on the matter for the whole rant was that we hold the presidency to such high standards that we ignore all the worthless assholes in Congress for any of the blame for what we experience during each term. They're equally as responsible for the knee jerk reactions from voters when Presidential Elections come around. Status quo never changing is why we got Trump. He was "different" so people took a gamble on him. It failed. For some reason that's the only election in this country people seem to worry about is the Presidential one and I never understood why.

That was my whole tirade about focusing in on him by analyzing his ridiculous shit and being serious about it. Most of his shit is theatrical hamming it up for the public. I just don't think the dysfunction in the government should only be rested on his shoulders. His cabinet (every fucking stupid firing and hiring cycle) and Congress are as much to blame as he is.

a lame duck isn't that it's "worthless," it's that it's "powerless." Trump is clearly not there yet. I don't wanna be a stickler for it, but it's the point of a "lame duck." They can't do anything. Trump seems unstoppable for whatever reason. He's the opposite right now, even if he looks like he's "definitely going to lose."

Technically, a lame duck President is one in their second term or has already been replaced. So the term isn’t being used correctly, here.

I understand the temptation to believe that Trump thinks he’s a lame duck so he can suffer no consequences; but that’s clearly not true: If he’s not re-elected, he can be criminally indicted on all of the charges for which he was impeached, plus more currently pending in the SDNY. The statute of limitations on those run out during what would be his second term. If he’s serving as President, he can’t be indicted per the OLC memo and the statute would have tolled by the time he’d finished his second term.

Which is why he’s lying, cheating and stealing to win this election.

It's because people kept saying things like this in 2106 that led to us casually electing this

Oh crap, not good. :-)

I've seen the point extended to describe a president who has no real power, or is in whatever we'd call the opposite of a supermajority. But yes.

trump going on twitter and saying “play college football” is so fucking atrocious. i do not care about any football but at this point it’s 100% his fault we can’t do college football. rapid testing and tracing are the only way. he needs to come around to this somehow or it’s gonna be a long winter.

wait, so they want kids to play sports for no money and the chance to catch a disease that the military is actively screening against for entry?

Fucking repellent.
