These performances stand out for me. Nirvana was a very easy pick for my favorite, as their unplugged album is one of the best recordings ever, period. Shame that Soundgarden never did this, but Cornell's outstanding songbook album is the next best thing.

I've always liked Oasis' Unplugged performance with Noel performing vocals since Liam couldn't play bc of a "Sore Throat" meanwhile he was up in the balcony taking care of his sore throat by smoking and drinking. Noel did a great job on vocals. It was an early performance of what would be to come for his solo career.

STP, Nirvana, and AIC would all be on my list. For me, R.E.M.'s 1991 set was also special, as was the 1993 10,000 Maniacs set. Live and The Cure did pretty good ones, too.

I can't even think of 10 unplugged records but I really really love Alice in Chains' set, as well as Stone Temple Pilots. And I really do enjoy George Michael's unplugged from 1997 for his actually very dark record "older", amazing vocal performance.

Besides those mentioned, I think Live did well on Unplugged too

Alice in Chains unplugged is by far the best for me

Nirvana and Alice in Chains are really the only two unplugged sets I ever listen to, but I will say that I've always been disappointed that U2 didn't do an Unplugged during their Achtung Baby/ZooTV era. That shit would have been FIRE.

Nothing comes close to the Nirvana and Alice In Chains sets though. In both cases, I would rank their unplugged albums right near the top of any “best of” conversations (like, AIC unplugged is a better album than Dirt).. Such amazing setlist choices, vocal performances, arrangements, etc..

On a different note, I would encourage anyone who still thinks Pearl Jam is in the same sport as these two bands to revisit their crappy unplugged set. Sloppy, sophomoric, and unfocused. Plus (as Billy Corgan would say), they just don’t have the songs man.

They released the show in its entirety and with bonus cuts and features on dvd. I think thats the most they could have done with a television broadcast.

Don't think it was an MTV thing, but Chris Cornell - Unplugged In Sweden (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3Qjk9LqDvw) was solid.
