Wasn't sure where to put this, not sure if it's appropriate here, but I thought I'd give it a shot. Listening to Jay Mohr's podcast right now, really cool stuff when he doesn't have a douchebag for a guest (except his manager, who somehow can balance that with being funny).

Here's what I listen to, though I haven't kept up much lately.

- The Skeptic's Guide To The Universe
- WTF With Marc Maron
- Star Talk with Neil DeGrasse Tyson
- Nerdist

Yes! I was wondering when my fellow podcast nerds were going to come out into daylight.

I haven't been keeping up with them lately, but these are my favorites, in no particular order:

My regulars:

Kevin and Bean
The Joe Rogan Experience
Mohr Stories
WTF (though I gave up on listening to every one; now I just listen only when there's a guest I like).
The Jimmy Dore Show
Slash Filmcast
The Majority Report
Fresh Air

Podcasts I used to like but have since given up on:

Comedy and Everything Else
Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me
Citizen Radio
Adam Carolla- I only listened to this asshole when I didn't know a lot of podcasts and needed something for work. The unfunniest excuse for a "comedian" I've ever heard.

The Todd Glass Show (actually, I never really liked it, but I really tried to get into it because Todd is so damn likeable. Ultimately, I just couldn't take it any more).

Hollywood Babble-On- I like Kevin Smith and I like Ralph Garman, but this show is an utter and complete train wreck. I finally gave up hoping it would get funny.

Doug Loves Movies- The Leonard Maltin game is the shit, but the rest of it is just awful. Doug is painfully unfunny.

This American Life- This show blows. I'm sorry. I tried. I heard a few really great episodes but realized at some point that they were the exception to the rule.

I always listen to WTF whenever someone I'm interested is on too. Same with Elvis Mitchell's The Treatment. One that I listen to a bit infrequently is Masocast (http://www.masocast.com) (sorta NSFW), about kinky lifestyles. I've listened to Rogan's show a little bit, not convinced I should subscribe though I like what he's doing. It would be awesome if Henry Rollins got one, like a scaled-down version of his IFC show.

WTF with Marc Maron is basically the only Podcast I listen to regularly, and still only when there's a guest I'm interested in, or when a friend tells me "Oh, you've gotta listen to the Mencia episode!" I've met the guy a few times, I go to college really close to where he lives, and he has come to speak to us a few times. Always a great time, and I always talk to him afterwards. He's a really interesting dude and I love hearing about everyone's life, especially coming up in the comedy world. Maron is a great host because he's so honest, and open about a lot of his own problems.

While I have no idea about podcasts etc, I do have a couple that I subscribe to just to have people nattering in my ears about subjects I'm interested in when sat in the office:
1ups Retronauts - cus they talk about old games
Little Atoms - regular interviews with authors of new pop-science books and documentaries etc
IGN beyond - so I can hear loud opinionated people rattle on about playstations
For giggles I usually listen to Adam and Joe's old podcasts from the BBC

Professor Blastoff: Tig Notaro, Kyle Dunnigan and David Huntsburger -- I've almost lost consciousness from laughing so hard. If you are new to it, start from the beginning as we are on episode 36 now and there are a lot of in-jokes running now.

Apparently today's WTF is really awesome. Todd Glass is on, who I like anyway, but apparently he talks about something super personal. Or something. All I know is, Patton Oswalt already tweeted it was the best WTF ever, someone on a comedy message board I lurk at said he was "really proud" of Todd for whatever it is he said, and Maron said "It’s an honest, open discussion unlike any other heard on WTF." Which, for anyone who's ever heard WTF will tell you, that is saying something. He got Louis CK to cry for God's sake.

Anyway, I'm really curious now as to what all the hype is about. I won't be listening until later tonight, but the suspense is killing me. I'm guessing Todd either comes out or talks about how he was molested, or something equally messed up from his childhood. Something. I don't know. No matter what, it'll be a very interesting episode.

I'm not a huge podcast listener, but these are the ones I've been listening to recently:

Judge John Hodgman (http://www.maximumfun.org/shows/judge-john-hodgman) - John Hodgman hears and judges over frivolous disputes (are machine guns robots, is it appropriate to actively encourage the audience to clap along) to humorous effect.
Sound of Young America (now Bullseye) (http://www.maximumfun.org/shows/sound-young-america) - Jesse Thorn interviews a variety of pop culture not quite mainstream people.

So...I completely- and I mean COMPLETELY- swore off Adam "couldn't be funny if his life depended on it" Carolla, but Patton Oswalt was on this week so...dammit. I have to listen. I told myself I wouldn't, but I'm weak. I can't pass up a podcast where Patton is the guest.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. It actually made me laugh out loud. I love Joe's podcast, but that is spot on. Thank you for sharing!

Edit: The only thing he missed is Joe starting the show with: "The Joe Rogan Experience is sponsored by the Flesh Light! Go to Joerogan.net, click the button for the Flesh Light and get fifteen percent off the number one sex toy for men." If he had just added that, it would have been perfect. And some weed talk. Especially about weed cookies.

On the topic of this show, by the way, I have to say that I really hated Duncan Trussell initially, but now he's one of my favorite guests. He does go a little over the deep end sometimes with his crazy theories, but he's still a really interesting dude, and when he talks about politics/society, he's spot on. I could just do with less of the, "Hey man, we were put here by ALIENS and maybe this whole world is ONE GIANT MUSHROOM TRIP, man! You never know!"

Also if people are looking for some quality recommendations on which podcasts to check out, the AV Club does a weekly podcast review called Podmass which is really good. They're definitely an acquired taste. The first ten episodes are god awful in terms of sound quality so I wouldn't even try to listen to anything before that. They are absolutely disgusting a lot of the time but I find the personal anecdotes hilarious. If I had to recommend a single episode I'd say
http://walkingtheroom.libsyn.com/-75-witch-nose-and-the-pig-room is pretty fantastic if only for the story about the hipster couple living in the apartment above Dave's.

^^I don't know. I may give them another shot sometime. I know sometimes these shows take awhile to grow on you, and I've heard great things about that show. I'll definitely try to check out the episode you recommended. :) And I actually did hear him talking about the hipster couple upstairs on one of the episodes I listened to, though I couldn't tell you which episode it was.

On another note, there are just too many damn podcasts to keep up with. I can't even keep track any more. I've probably got ten or so that I would like to check out at some point, on top of all the regulars I listen to. Or used to listen to. I haven't had the chance to listen nearly as much as I used to. I can't tell you the last time I listened to Rogan's podcast. I love that show, but I always want to hear the whole episode, and they're always two to two and a half hours long, sometimes longer. It's a huge time committment.

Agghhh...Podmass is so awesome. I can't even keep up with all the podcasts I want to check out. I keep meaning to listen to Greg Proops' The Smartest Man in the World. See also: Comedy Bang Bang, which I've heard part of one episode of (Patton was on, so...), and wasn't very impressed with. But it seems to be one of the most beloved comedy podcasts out there, so I would like to give it another chance. I've also heard great things about Who Charted. I haven't heard much on Earwolf, but the few I've checked out I haven't been too impressed with.

I did finally get around to checking out Superego and, I don't know if maybe it was just a bad episode or what, but it was pretty boring. It's an improv show, which in theory sounds pretty cool, but it wasn't very funny. Once again, I checked out the episode because Patton was on and his bit was only mildly amusing.

It was really cool to see his house, but overall it was pretty boring. I didn't need to see Marc spend ten minutes fixing his Espresso machine.

But anyway, yeah, it was still kind of interesting. I had only seen bits and pieces of his house before, and only pictures of the garage.

It must be kind of weird to meet people for the first time and then interview them. It seemed a little awkward there between him and Mindy Kaling. Not that they didn't like each other, but it just felt uncomfortable.

They didn't show Jessica at all. Not really that surprising. I saw her in another video (some behind the scenes thing of one of the live episodes). She's actually pretty cute (and half Mark's age...shocker).

I'm a SModcast whore. Love the original SModcast with Kev n Mose and Tell 'Em Steve-Dave is equally as good, you can understand why Kevin calls Bry Johnson the funniest man he knows. Then I've listened to probably 40 eps of Jay n Bob Get Old, Hollywood Babbleon and all of Plus One. Fat Guy and Beard (FEAB), with Scott Mosier and Matt Mira from the nerdist, is good for something different. Then all the other little series were cool too... Fatman on Batman, Film School Friday, Highland: A Peephole History, Puck nuts, Red State of the Union, The Secret Stash (companion podcast to AMC's comic book store reality show with the Tell Em Steve Dave guys), SMinterview, SMoviemakers and Starfucking with Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer.

Quality stuff!

The SModcast empire is something to behold - I've been keeping up with the awesome "Emo Kev" saga with Smith & Mosier, but there's so much from every individual series I haven't heard. One day I'll get around to it. I must say, though, the Fatman on Batman episode with Kevin Conroy was incredible: so heavy & emotional, yet funny and revealing in the best way. A true joy to listen to. I didn't think I could love Kevin Conroy anymore than I already did!

Fatman On Batman's quickly become a favourite of mine. I only have a moderate interest in Batman (and zero interest in the animated series or any comics at all, aside from my beloved Sonic The Comics), but pretty much every single episode has been fairly fascinating. Kevin Smith's combination of a ridiculous gift of gab with post-orgasmic-head-stimulation sensitivity makes him an ideal interviewer, and the guests have been erudite with great stories and insights.

Speaking of fascination, Having Sex With Katie Morgan, for the pornstar's view of sex. Sadly it's not nearly as entertaining now that Cassie Young's mysteriously disappeared - replacement co-host Rebecca Love has all the charisma and insight of Word's old paperclip 'advisor' - but generally speaking it's... educating.

If you've ever had any interest in wrestling, Colt Cabana's Art Of Wrestling podcast is awesome. Constant stream of well-known guests, and because he's either a friend or peer of anyone on the show, he gets far more out of them than other interviewers.

-Tested.com podcast (tech: pc, mobile and various)
-The Comedy Button
-KBMOD.com podcast (PC gaming)
-Geekbox (Gaming, tv, movie catch-all. It's ok, but some idiot host on the show can ruin it with his nonsense/backwards opinions. The other hosts will often sigh and disagree with him)
-Judge John Hodgman

I listen to these a lot less than the above:

-Giant Bombcast (gaming, but it's kinda meh)

I do the same. He can be cool during interviews, and I've liked his appearances on Conan, but the beginning of WTF with just him talking is disposable. If he's talking to someone I don't know, I won't listen. Needless to say, it's not an automated download for me.

If anyone wasn't aware that listens to the show, hosts Jimmy Mac and Jason Swank from The ForceCast have moved on to their own independent podcast called Rebel Force Radio, these guys have always been known for their quality and star studded interviews, so I'm sure the new show will be nothing short of brilliant if you're looking for the best of the best in Star Wars podcasting, and if you're unfamiliar or not sure you can always check out the teaser above or find some old shows from The ForceCast that are archived in their iOS app.

I guess theforce.net and rebelscum.com will still want to continue the ForceCast though since it is theirs.... but they'll just have to find some new hosts. I can't see that show ever being the same again though without Jimmy and Jason but we'll see.

In any case..... Rebel Force Radio will debut this Saturday (the 19th) and then returning to their regular schedule on Tuesdays with a live show and Fridays releasing the show on demand.

Discovered a really cool podcast today called The Minister of Chance (http://ministerofchance.com/The_Minister_of_Chance/Home.html). It's basically a movie without visuals. There's a tonne of different actors working on it and they all give amazing voice work, the quality is superb. I've listened to the first couple of episodes and I'm hooked. The story is a blend of SF and fantasy, if Game of Thrones were to meet Doctor Who; from what I can tell, the plot follows a barmaid called Kitty as her country is being invaded by a kingdom who have outlawed science. Geeky stuff, but very engrossing nonetheless.

Give the Gentlemen's Guide to Midnight Cinema a try if you would like to hear a podcast about (mostly)obscure genre films ranging from Italian giallos, martial arts, grindhouse, horror, and B-action movies. The two hosts are old friends and the banter is fun and easy. The B-action movie reviews are a particular highlight. Even if I've never seen some of the movies or want to see them, they make them interesting to hear about. http://ggtmc.com/

They're doing one in Chicago at my favorite theater, The Music Box, but there's no info yet on tickets. Hope I get to go!

Hello Internet, with CGP Grey and Brady Haran, is the only podcast that I'll absolutely swear by. I've been listening since it started earlier this year, and good lord, every episode has been fantastic.

Other ones are more specific in their scope - Wired's Gadget Lab Podcast, Less than Live with Kate Leth (comics, comics, comics), and The Dex with the YouTube channel of the same name (competitive Pokemon - yeah, I know, give me a wedgie or whatever).

I also used to listen to the Ars Technicast back when that was still a thing, and, of course, Underneath it All, whenever that comes back. Get to it, people. (It's not like you all have lives or careers or anything, riiiiiiight? ;) )

Catching up on the Rooster Teeth Podcast (formerly Drunk Tank) has saved my sanity after starting a new job last week, with a 1+ hour drive each way. Plus listening on and off throughout the workday really helps it go quicker.

Good batch of podcasts lately. WTF with Dr. Drew was excellent, serious thought-provoking, but I'm a slight psych nerd to start with, and last week's Bill Scheft was great. Recent Nerdists with Bob Odenkirk and Clive Barker and were both worth listening to. And Neil deGrasse Tyson's StarTalk Radio covered the physics of super powers -- can Superman survive a black hole, how would Thor's transportation bridge work, etc. Good listening. :)

I assume a good number of y'all listened to Serial? Just concluded today. I won't say anything else, because spoilers, but even if Serial was overhyped, it was still exciting and brought podcasts one step closer to the mainstream.

Exciting time for podcasts.

The Louie CK one he posted from 2010 was also great, and the interview with Allie Broosh from Hyperbole and a Half.. aww heck.. I'm just a big fan of WTF..
Lately I've been on the retro gaming podcasts. Back in My Play is pretty good, as is the staple Retronauts. Also Daft Souls is a good UK based podcast, lots of indie games and such, plus most of the people are the same guys who do Shut Up and Sit Down.

Latest podcast I've really dug deep into is The Worst Idea of All Time. 2 guys watch the movie Grown Ups 2 once a week for a year. They are almost done. It's interesting to see what (bad) repetition does to the psyche, but it's also hilarious.

Also digging I Was There Too. Features people with minor parts in major scenes/movies in cinema history. The most recent episode had members of the bus in Speed. So funny/charming listening to everyone's recollection of shooting the movie. You really get a sense of what it is like to work in Hollywood when you aren't a huge star.

These are my mainstays:

Real Ghost Stories Online - daily podcast where they read out "true" ghost stories. It's fun and the hosts are likeable.
The Hysteria Continues - bi-weekly (normally) show dedicated to horror movies, mostly slasher movies but general horror movies are discussed as well. Lots of great banter on this, highly recommended even if you're not a big fan of horror because the hosts are hilarious.
The X-Files Files - downloading as I go along with my rewatch, interesting enough.
Voices in the Static - Silent Hill podcast, but I'm a bit behind with it.
Random Trek - discussion of a random episode of Star Trek. This is my new bedtime podcast because there's just something about the guy's voice that just makes me relax, l0lz.
The Clive Barker Podcast - about... Clive Barker. Only recommended if you're a fan, the hosts need to work on being more "broadcast friendly".
Stuff You Should Know - just started in the last two weeks. Quite interesting.
Welcome To Night Vale - I'm so behind with this. I haven't listened in months.
The H.P. Lovecraft Literary Podcast - discusses each story, I'm listening along as I read each one. It's okay but the hosts can be slightly irritating at times.

Gave up on:
Darkness Radio - daily paranormal show. It's not awful, but it's three hours EVERY DAY and that's just too much.
Scream Queenz - horror discussion but the host is so fucking awful that I gave up. Gurl, lay off the coke before recording.
Silver Screen Queens - movie review show that was recommended to me but it's just these two Aussie girls screeching over each other for thirty minutes and is just headache inducingly awful.

Oh, and if you have an iOS device and listen to a lot of podcasts, I recommend getting the Overcast app - specifically the paid version. The advanced speed functions are a godsend.

I'm obsessed with podcasts these days. Probably why I haven't been posting here in awhile. I listened to Serial, both seasons and all these offshoots: crime writers on as well as Task and Purpose. You Must Remember This and the I dork out on Diane Rehm. I just downloading them and binge listen on long flights. I've been traveling a lot....

Main:
-Hour of Goon (Hosted by Jeordie White and Fred Sablan, with guests most weeks. Josh Freese episode is a blast)
-Force Cult (Star Wars podcast, also has Jeordie. It's ok)
-Still Untitled (Adam Savage of Mythbusters)
-The Journal (Kevin Rose, but not focused on tech stuff)
-The Blerg (mobile tech & development)
-MVP (tech products)
-Tangentially Speaking (conversations with random people, who live(d) fucked up, or interesting lives. Also its better sub podcast from the same feed: TOMA, where the host tells his insane life story - TOMA is *highly* recommended when you get past his long winded intro, only 15 episodes for now)
-Half Hour Happy Hour (Alex Albrecht, a spiritual successor to Diggnation)
-xda developers podcast (mobile tech)
-real ghost stories online (thx slave2thewage, replaced darkness radio which was rapidly going downhill last year... So much filler)
-Jim Harold's Campfire (paranormal)
-Night Attack (nonsense/bullshit comedy, topics about the "best and the worst of the Internet", Brian Brushwood if you already know who he is from other stuff.)

Tried not to overlap from my post from a couple years ago here. Ditched a few of those since [emoji14]

I have to say, I don't know how I would get through my workday without podcasts. I listen to them from the moment I get here until the moment I go home. And I keep discovering new ones, there's just an amazing variety of free entertainment out there, blows my mind.

My regulars:

-Kevin and Bean
Morning show in Los Angeles, I used to listen to them on my commute when I lived there. Thank God for the internet.

-Snap Judgment
Storytelling podcast, just fantastic. They've had stories that have genuinely had my heart racing.

-This American Life
I could never get into this show previously, but gave it another chance a few months ago and holy CRAP have I been missing out all these years. I have fallen in love with storytelling podcasts and this one is probably the best I've heard.

-The Moth
Live storytelling. The stories are hit and miss but the good ones are really good.

-Citizen Radio
My daily dose of sanity, a political show from the far, far left.

-The Jimmy Dore Show
Another political podcast, used to be so much better but I still enjoy it. He's not funny at ALL and thinks he's hilarious, but if you can get past that it's an informative show with some interesting discussions.

-How To Be A Girl
This one's close to my heart. A podcast from the mother of a transgender child. She posts episodes very sporadically, but they're almost always fantastic, and there are a lot of episodes in their archive. Her most recent episode, which centered on the bathroom issue, and specifically a law that's under consideration in her state barring trans people from using the bathroom that matches their gender, was absolutely heartbreaking and enthralling. Just brilliant stuff.

-Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me
Very amusing quiz show from NPR

Stuff I occasionally listen to:

-WTF
I can't stand Marc Maron but when he has a good guest on I will listen.

-Nerdist
SO hit and miss, but the good episodes are really good. Again, depends on which guest they have on.

-Radiolab
This show is very hit and miss, but there are some really fantastic episodes here and there.

Stuff I am just starting to get into or want to try:

-Bullseye
Another show I gave up on many years ago but am now giving another shot after hearing a really good episode on the radio a couple days ago.

-Star Talk
I love Neil deGrasse Tyson yet have never actually sat down and listened to a whole episode. That will change today.

I got into podcasts probably in the last two years which means my reading time is severely shortened.

Some of the usual suspects, but I'm also partial to True Crime podcasts. There are some pretty bad ones and some really good ones too.

Politics/News:
NPR Politics Podcast
The Daily from NYT
Reveal - Center for Investigative Reporting (I gave these folks some of my end of year charitable contributions - was so tired of the fake news noise - this is not fake news)
The Intercepted
Reply All
On The Media

Current Events:
Serial
S-Town
Missing Richard Simmons
Civics 101- this one is short 10-15 minute lessons on a single topic.
1A - This was what replaced Diane Rehm. Topics a not all politics.
Military Justice - this came out of another podcast I got turned on to called Task and Purpose Radio which did a bunch of episodes on Beau Burgdahl around the same time Serial did their season on him. Interesting inside view, give you a deeper understanding on how the system works and probably needs reforming. Also his voice is awwwwesome.

Pop Culture/True Crime - yes, the guilty pleasures that keep me from true brain shrinkage watching Dancing With The Stars
Crime Writers On - I blame it all on these 4 folks who talk about other podcasts. They are funny and insightful - and from New Hampshire
Real Crime Profile - real former FBI profilers (one of them writes for Criminal Minds now). They analysis crime stories with victimology and profiling. Their episodes on Reeva Steenkamp were really interesting. They don't even like to mention the murderer's name -all about the victim. Oscar Pistorius might sound more familiar to you.
Missing and Murdered - Who Killed Alberta Williams - Canadian.Well written.
Off Shore - really compelling. All about Hawaii.
Up and Vanished - this one should have been terrible, doc filmmaker decides to find a 10 year old unsolved missing person to investigate. Shakes enough trees and omg, mystery solved.
Breakdown - baby dies in a hot car, break down all around
Accused - really well produced local reporting
In The Dark - same
Undisclosed - sort of a spin off from Serial, first with Aydnan Said then another kid wrongly convicted. Don't listen to unless you can get down in the weeds with the legal talk
Someone Knows Something - my critic friends call this one Noone knows Nothing - it's Canadian, and great foley so worth it to me.
You Must Remember This - most of you won't but if you have any interest in old Hollywood, they are ok episodes. Especially the ones about Charles Manson.
Detective
Criminal
Intrigue: Murder in the Lucky Holiday Hotel - recent murder that I remember reading about in the paper. Intriguing and in CHINA.

Listing all these out shows me I'm spending way too much time with earphones on.

Just a few:

The Pat McAfee Show - Ex-Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee. Dude is hilarious and has some really good insight on the NFL.
The Lowe Post - Zach Lowe (ESPN) talks about basketball. He has a great basketball mind for sure.
Spittin' Chiclets - Part of the Barstool Sports network. Hockey podcast featuring former players.
How Did This Get Made - Jason Mantzoukas, Paul Scheer, and June Diane Raphael discuss terrible movies, sometimes with an audience.
The Bill Simmons Podcast - General sports and pop culture from The Ringer's Bill Simmons.
SWIM (Someone Who Isn't Me) - Daniel P Carter from BBC1 interviews musicians/artists. They're not frequent, but they're always good.

There are various other sports-related shows in there, but those are probably my favorites.

Holybatcast- Best DC related podcast and best Batman podcast.
H3H3 podcast- they just started and it streams on twitch live every friday.
Rf4rm( real fans 4 real movies)- The main podcast to the sister podcast ( holy batcast) these dudes talk movies.
smodcast- any kevin smith show from this network is great
The Jasta Show- the best heavy metal podcast out there.
Talk is Jericho- Dude is a great podcaster
Steve Austin Unleashed- Love to hear stone cold talk about wrestling and his ranch.
Joe Rogan- Everyone knows this one

Ill give a shout out to this one but sometimes, more than often, I want to strangle these douchbags because of their "know it all" negative attitude
CUPodcast. Its great when they talk retro games, but total shit when it comes to everything else. Fuck Pat Contri.

I listen to podcasts at work all day, which is kind of awesome. And I keep finding more and more good podcasts to add to my favorites list on Stitcher, and now I’m up to 22 podcasts that I listen to regularly. I think I might need a life.

Here are all my podcasts, for whatever reason. In no particular order:

Out Here in America
The /Filmcast
Bertcast’s Podcast
Industry Standard w/Barry Katz
Risk!
Love + Radio
The Hilarious World of Depression
Good One
Podcast Playlist
Reply All
Nancy
The Heart
Criminal
Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me
TED Radio Hour
Snap Judgment
How to Be a Girl
Citizen Radio
This American Life
The Moth
The Atheist Experience
Kevin and Bean

…Yeah.

I have become addicted to storytelling podcasts. My favorites are, in this order: The Moth, Snap Judgment and This American Life. There are some other good ones on the list, too (The Heart immediately springs to mind). I’ve got a couple of LGBTQ podcasts (Nancy, Out Here in America, How to Be a Girl), science stuff, comedy stuff…so many different kinds. It really helps the work day go by a lot easier. It still amazes me that there is so much genuinely great free content out there.

Oh! Also, I will listen to Fresh Air, The Nerdist and You Made It Weird when there are good guests on.

I just recently finished listened to every episode of the How Did This Get Made? (http://www.earwolf.com/show/how-did-this-get-made/) podcast. It's 3 semi well known UCB alum (Paul Sheer, Jason Mantzoukas, and June Diane Raphael) talking about whatever shitty movie. I like a lot of comedy podcasts, but I'm noticing lately just how much funnier legitimate improv comics are. They're each hilarious in their own way, but Jason Mantzoukas is definitely the stand-out among them. They also have a special guest on each episode, which often adds a lot to the show since they're often comic friends or other amazing improvs. And they do everything from awful little 70s 'indie' movies to huge garbage blockbusters. I listened to them every day at work from late July to late October and it's terribly sad to be finished and waiting a week for each new one. 10/10 highly recommend

But finishing up HDTGM is what made me try out the Comedy Bang! Bang! (http://www.earwolf.com/show/comedy-bang-bang/) podcast. I'm not a huge fan of the show because I feel like the improv doesn't really work in that medium, at least the way they do improv. Both things are run by Scott Aukerman (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTQ5B43_1oE) and he started the whole Earwolf comedy network, under which HDTGM resides.

But the Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast is basically just Scott and a regular comedian guest along with an 'interesting character' who joins them for whatever reason. This person is always a comic doing a character they're either making up on the spot or have done previously on the show. Sometimes it's a famous celebrity like John Lennon, but it's usually just some carnie or something. And essentially they just riff off of each other the whole time. They might play an improv game or two, but the best ones I've heard are all totally off the cuff. Usually with them all breaking a hearty amount.

I started off with some of the Jason Mantzoukas guest episodes because it helped transition from HDTGM and I've found almost all of them absurdly funny. Sometimes they'll have like 10+ guests on, all doing characters, and it usually works out to just be all of them trying to totally fuck with everybody else by asking questions or discussing topics that will totally stump the others or just make them die laughing. I dunno how well I'm selling it, but it's like just non-stop comedy with a hefty serving of 'contagious laughter' getting to you. I'd start out with some of the later episodes, maybe a few live ones, because the early episodes are a bit slower at first. But there isn't a plot or anything beyond the rare callback so it doesn't really matter.

Special mention for The Flop House Podcast (https://www.flophousepodcast.com/episodes/) which is also a bad movie review comedy podcast, but it's done pretty differently than HDTGM that I was able to start listening to these without being annoyed that they weren't HDTGM. It's done by two ex Daily Show writers and current general funny guys and also their friend who isn't really a comedian but that's part of his charm. Worth checking out for sure, these guys are really fast on their feet.

I just realized that Plex offers thousands of podcasts, and I've subscribed to quite a few, but haven't listened to most of them yet, BECAUSE, I'm bingeing one...

Up and Disappeared is just amazing- I'm totally hooked, and look forward to more shows like it.

I'll probably get a lot of use out of your list of recommendations, @MrLobster (https://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=5512) , so, thanks!

Also, it's SO badass that all of my favorite NPR segments are available as podcasts.

I've revised my list a lot recently; but some notable new ones are...

Root of Evil: The True Story of the Hodel Family and the Black Dahlia
The Movies That Made Me
Pretend Radio
The Rhino Podcast
Rock N Roll Pantheon

I've been listening to The Weekly Planet alot, they talk about movies (news) and comics (they know their shit) and are pretty fucking funny while they do it. I might not always agree with them but i do enjoy them all the same (though they do nail exactly what i thought about Joker!)

I don't listen to as many podcasts as I did back when I was commuting by car 2+ hours/day, but here's what I'm currently into.

Regularly:
Gastropod (https://gastropod.com/) (food science & history)
Sawbones (https://www.themcelroy.family/sawbones) (funny, gross medical history)
The Empty Bowl (https://bowl.rest) (chill & soothing show about, uh, breakfast cereal)
ALAB Series (https://www.alabseries.com/) (fascinating "unflattering side of the American legal system" series, alternately hilarious and horrifying, but very "three dudes" format if that puts you off)
Throughline (https://www.npr.org/podcasts/510333/throughline) (NPR, historical look at current events)

Occasionally:
Planet Money (https://www.npr.org/podcasts/510289/planet-money/) (NPR, economics, more interesting than it sounds; "The Tale of the Onion King" is one of my favorites)
Hardcore History (https://www.dancarlin.com/hardcore-history-series/) (what it sounds like; very long eps, but favors a dramatic telling, which I like)
Reply All (https://gimletmedia.com/shows/reply-all) (nominally "about the internet"; a bunch of former NPR/WNYC folks bend their research skills towards whatever weird phenomena catch their interest)

I tried The Magnus Archives (http://rustyquill.com/the-magnus-archives/) for a while, and really loved the "softly narrated horror anthology" part of it, but bounced pretty hard off of the S1 finale. I got into it for bedtime tales of creeping horror, not...yelling, crashing, and screaming.

I'd appreciate any other horror recs that aren't true crime!

I’ll give a shameless plug for my own podcast: The Swearwolves.

It’s a horror podcast... mostly about movies. We typically discuss two horror movies every week. Our 100th episode comes out next week.

You can hear us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Podbean... pretty much wherever you listen to podcasts. Just search “The Swearwolves.”

You can also stream all of our episodes on our website: www.theswearwolves.com

Current faves are Reply All, Qanon Anonymous (that's a debunking/coverage show, not pro-Q), Something Rhymes With Purple, The Horne Section, Savage Lovecast, Elis and John and You Made It Weird.

A few that I don't really listen to anymore but still recommend would include Beautiful/Anonymous, Risk!, Made of Human and RadioLab.

i'm now the editor of the main-feed episodes of Halloweenies (which this year is covering all of the Friday The 13th films). "jason goes to hell" and "jason x" come out tomorrow. i also did last month's "jason takes manhattan" as my inaugural episode. i'm friends in real life with most of the people involved so it's fun to listen to them talk about the movies, since i would be doing that with them under more normal circumstances. wish i had been editing this for longer as i love podcast editing (and i'm getting PAID!)

I just listened to the Jason GTH one, I liked it a lot. When looking at the episode list, I thought "man they are so fucking long! I already have so many downloaded podcasts in queue", and also had a couple of experiences of horror movie podcasts where the hosts were annoying as hell. Maybe it wasn't horror in some cases, as that's kind of applicable to a podcast of a group of friends getting together and they think they're funny but they're just loud and annoying. Anyway, will check out the rest. My only feedback is that there's one guy (I think he's the one who drives a lot of the segments) has a bit of dry mouth, so at times there's sticky sounds going on (I have similar problems myself, when my dry mouth problems occur). Good chemistry among the hosts here, though. I'm approaching a similar age bracket I think, so them talking about fucking around in a video store for a while, but sometimes going home empty handed, spoke to me and was kinda funny.

How long does editing an episode take? Being so long, it must be quite an undertaking. Does everyone record their own audio and send in the separate parts to one person? One of them sounded like they were recorded from the call receiver's end though, unless it was just their particular setup.

I will listen to more. From mid-2018 to mid-2020 I'd randomly dive into some of the bigger horror franchises I grew up watching (Halloween, Friday, Nightmare), so some of the discussed scenes were semi-fresh in my mind. I watched everything of those franchises, except for Freddy vs Jason and Jason X, which are new/upcoming territory for this show. It will push me to get to watching those two and complete the chain.

believe me i try to edit out all of the sounds that don't need to be there but it's pretty challenging sometimes.

everyone records their own audio separately, but they also use a call recorder for me to line things up (and just in case there's an issue with any of the individual files).

justin sounded fine on jason takes manhattan, but something happened for JGTH & jason x where he's TOTALLY oversaturated. i think he may have accidentally bumped up the digital gain level in his garageband session. hoping to like facetime with him and show him how to fix it before the next recording.

and vanderbilt must have his gain up really high and sit far away from his mic because you can hear the whole goddamn room (and outside, too). you should see how i have to EQ him to keep him audible but cut down on the noise hahaha.

there's an episode on "you're next" coming out this week (that i still need to edit) and i'm really excited because i love that movie.

The current season of This Land is fucking wild.... and not in the good way.

A Texas foster couple becomes bonded with their foster child who happens to be Indigenous and the couple is not. In the U.S., there is federal law saying that adoption agencies at the state level must prioritize putting an Indigenous child with an Indigenous family of the same tribe. This is meant as a way to try and stop the adoption agencies... uhm, basically stealing, of kids in the past. To, that federal law is a good thing and is supported by a many professionals relating to adoption.

Well, this couple didn't/doesn't think so. They filed a suit saying that by prioritizing to be Indigenous kids placed with Indigenous families to be discrimination against equality. They feel that if a kid is loved by a family that it doesn't matter the heritage of the kid and should be placed with whomever the quickest. And because of where they filed with in Texas, the judge they got sided with them. The various state agencies file appeals. Okay, so that goes back forth all the way to the federal Supreme Court.

It should be noted that, even though the child with now with that foster couple, the motions are still being pursued.

And you might be asking yourself, who are these people and why do they have the resources to do this?

Well........ this is where it gets fucking wild. The Bradley Foundation (conservative think tank) gave money to a some law firms, including Goldwater, to pursue this sort of action. Why? Well... they feel that any "race-based" form of discrimination is bad and should be done away with.

For economic reasons.

Indigenous people aren't a "race" but they do have a unique status through treaties with the federal government about how to they should deal with one another (nation to nation). As we know, these have been laughable ignored and manipulated through the centuries (but especially from the 1860s onward)...

What does that have to do with adoptioning an Indigenous child? Good question.

Well, if they can get the Supreme Court to decide that tribes having "special priority" is a bad thing in this case; then it opens the doors to other things... like, does a tribe have the right to being on its reservation (and control its mineral rights)?

Which is a very, very, very bad thing.

So yeah, for all the dirty details... This Land S2.

no joke but this is probably one of the best podcasts that existed back when it was still a going concern.

I don't know what episode VIII could sound like given how groundbreaking and exciting podcasts have gotten since episode VII but I have very high hopes. I mean, he got Olly Moss to do the poster for it (and for the previous seven episodes) so there's some excitement about that as well.

i had the honor a few weeks ago of guesting on my favorite podcast, Horror Queers, to talk about The Perfection. if you haven't seen it, MAJOR content warning for a ton of stuff, particularly sexual assault.

we had a very open and candid conversation about a LOT of things, and it was honestly a pleasure to be a part of the discussion. can't wait to talk to them again (which they assured me would happen).

hi, y'all!

i am the co-founder and co-host of a new podcast called The Lady Killers: A Feminine Rage Podcast
Dedicated to Female-Identifying Killers in Horror

Each episode will feature Jenn, Sammie, Mae, and Rocco discussing a female-identifying killer in the horror genre—and sometimes the wider world of cinema—from Julia and Jennifer to Carrie and Christine. We’ll tell the story from her point of view, decide if it’s “Good For Her” Horror, and answer the most important question of all: would we die for her?

Join us every other Thursday as we pull on our sweaters, pick up our ice picks, sharpen our scissors, and honor the lady killers who live on the silver screen. No boys were harmed in the making of this podcast.
