Hey y'all.

This will serve as the spoiler thread for the fall tour starting tonight. I'll lock the old thread once we know the show has started so keep posting in the old one if you like until then.

Thanks!

Fucking chriiiiiiist. Now I'm even more fucking bummed that this tour isn't coming anywhere near KC.

I was discussing that with a coworker today actually. It’s probably entirely wishful thinking, but given NIN’s past touring habits and the number of cities being hit this time around, I kind of have a gut feeling that we’ll be seeing more shows announced for next year.

Then again, the VERY first night I saw NIN live, we got back to our hotel and when I opened up my laptop, they’d announced the second leg of the LITS tour, so maybe now I’m spoiled into always thinking there will be more dates announced mid-tour, heh.

Totally hear ya on the Chicago thing. I had finally just talked myself out of the idea of being on the hunt for the Saturday tickets since that was going to be the only one that worked for me schedule wise ... but this has me so hyped.

Hopefully if 2019 for sure brings more tour dates ... we'll get something a little closer our way.

I don't think so, for one Atticus doesnt like to tour very much, thats been said, and TR said they were just going to put together things to do light shows every now and again. They have families and stuff I doubt you're every going to see tour after tour after tour again like those days.

Like I said, it’s just wishful thinking, but it’s not like anyone can say so either way. How many musicians with families manage to tour day in and day out for a while before hanging it up again? No one is expecting tour after tour after tour, but to say theres a sliver of a chance that they announce shows for springtime isn’t entirely out of the question. *shrug* I mean. At this rate, I, for one, am going to be forking over every dollar I can to this tour, so it could prove to be pretty lucrative for them to keep striking while the iron’s hot. Even if not, I’ll be extremely happy to say I got to see them at least three times on this touring cycle.

Right before the show started, I told my friend that I “really want them to surprise me! I wish they’d start with Pinion!” My god. Every time that I think I’ve already seen their best show that I’m going to see, I’m wrong.

This setlist is a perfect balance between nerds like us & casual fans. Dig deep early for us (although you do get Wish right off the bat) & finish off with the hits for them. Something like would be perfect for my group of 8 at the first night at Radio City.

Was a pretty straight forward version off of Broken. Trent used a megaphone for some latter parts. It was really awesome- mix was a bit off so would’ve sounded better towards the end of the show but no complaining here. About time that song came out of hibernation and it did not disappoint.

Holy shit! Now this is what I call a fantastic way to open a tour. Can't believe they played Broken in full! While I was reading setlist.fm, it didn't even click until I got to "Happiness in Slavery" and my heart just started pounding. I didn't even finish reading the rest of the setlist. I stopped and came here RIGHT AWAY to see what everyone was saying.

All I know now is, this first show has justified me going down to LA for some of the shows. I was on the fence if it was going to be the same set as Europe, but holy smokes... this blows europe out of the water!!

Also, if I am going to LA, I don't think I want to look at any more setlists... Who knows what they're bound to bust out next... and This Isn't The Place as well? Man, you guys in Phoenix got a huge treat of a night.

I have a feeling "Not Anymore" and "The Idea of you" will be popping up on this tour.

I also have a feeling that one of these shows is going to be one of the trilogy albums in full now.
This is why I am unhealthily obsessed with this band. They do shit like this.

Live debut of This Isn't The Place.

Saw this on the NIN reddit page: Also, I found it very interesting what Trent said after This Isn't the Place. He said that song was about a friend that he recorded the "next song" (I'm Afraid of Americans) with a few years back. I'm not sure if Trent has ever officially confirmed the song was about Bowie. I just thought it was neat.

I'm so happy that they're playing This Isn't The Place, it's the standout track from the trilogy for me, and to have it confirmed that it's about Bowie, which I've always suspected, just takes it to another level. And they played Suck again, another favourite! Less Than is now an encore song too...is that the first time?

Happiness in Slavery sounds even better than it did when they were originally playing it in 1994. It's exactly how I pictured it in my head and it's incredible. All that was missing was the sound of microphones hitting the floor and a keyboard flying across the stage.

This is awesome, and it just dawned on me WHY he had us standing in line: if you know that your biggest fans are going to be at the show, the ones who stood in line for eight hours, then you can do ANYTHING. You can play the whole Broken EP one night. Maybe another night they play a quiet set. Maybe they’ll play some of the instrumental tracks or the new trilogy in its entirety. There’s no telling. We might really be in for a ride here!!

As one who witnessed it live it was not godawful as it seems like :)
I like the drum sound of Only/Fur-Lined. I guess they preferred studio drums to live drums. Cortini could handle the bass duty with Atticus onstage, even Trent can fwiw. It's one of the easiest.

I saw her comments, too. Ya know, if you went to both nights (or let’s say three nights) in a row and got no “Closer,” I could see being a little bummed if that’s a favorite of yours. But to say it ruins your night? Have you ever known anything about this band that you “love?” How spoiled are you? I’m kinda hoping they don’t play it tonight either, heh. And if they do, I kinda hope she didn’t get a ticket to the second show and misses out. Grow up.

Play the same set every night, and everyone gets an equal experience. Play a different set every night, and everyone gets a unique experience. You can’t win, and as a fan, you have to realize that before you get up in arms about your favorite song not being played. For all we know, Broken may not even be played in its entirety again, who knows? But no, be mad because the song played at every show for 20 years didn’t get more play. How unfortunate.

I am ok for setlist spoilers as it's not real until I see it played in person! A song title alone cannot represent the few minutes enveloped in fog, blinded by that front row of lights or the ones in the side when they turn suddenly flashing white repeatedly over and over, the harsh feedback from the massive speakers across the stage and to each side, and the flickering caperrings of the mad man I am trying not too stare too long at cuz there's four other beasts around him, but then he's pulling that mic stand close, choking the life out of it, his lips opening in secret....

Iiiiiii-uh have survived EVEryyyyyiiiii-thinggggg!!

The first thing my brother texted me this morning (he lives in NJ, I’m in AZ) was “no closer??” After he saw the set list. I texted him back and just told him that’s I’ve seen it live before, and because we got the whole Broken EP, I didn’t mind at all not hearing it. And honestly, I’d take anything from The fragile over closer any day.

This Isn't the Place was terrific. Moody lighting, super atmospheric, Robin was on a synth subbing in for Trent's vocalizing during the instrumental portions.

If I'm bummed about anything it's that God Break Down the Door got dropped from the setlists--I wouldn't have guessed this listening to the record, but from all the recordings I've seen itnwas easily the one I was most excited for. Would've loved getting that in the encore instead of Less Than (which, while good, does seem a tiny bit redundant coming right after Survivalism and The Hand That Feeds)

I can understand being kind of bummed if your fave song doesn't get played. But I see people on Twitter/Insta @ Nin (https://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=6236) and Trent's official accounts with their super-hostile screeching and complaining after a show and I'm just...ugh. We are talking about a guy who has released nearly 30 years of content. Trent has like 200 songs to choose from on any given night!

What in the actual fuck do they expect their concert experience to be like? It's kind of impossible to make a setlist that will please everyone once you've amassed such a huge catalog.

It's one thing to think to yourself "bummer, I would have really liked to hear "Closer" but oh well, great show". But to tag musicians publicly while you rant about how they ruined your life by not playing "your" song? Come on now.

I love the abum With Teeth, but can do without Every Day Is Exactly The Same. I don't hate it, I can tolerate it, but kinda tune it out when it comes on. I'd take Home over EDIETS if I had to choose one to go in place of another. But for me, With Teeth is still the best post-Fragile album. The next release I loved was Not The Actual Events. Those two are at the top of my post-Fragile list.
Home is also yet another one my most favorite songs from With Teeth, so that works for me too, but for different reasons. I see where you're coming from though, as I'm kind of like that with Underneath It All on The Fragile.

I was going to try avoiding setlist spoilers for Cold & Black & Infinite until NYC but I saw a headline about Broken in its entirety at the first show and that was the end of that.

But for real though. Between that show, and what's coming in about tonight's, I'm really going to have to stop looking. Fulfilling my greatest hopes, this seems to be channeling the Wave Goodbye 2009 shows, where they did crazy shit like playing TDS live and had really diverse, deep cut heavy sets, and at this point I'm in this great place where I'm even more clueless what the shows I'm seeing are going to consist of while being positive it will be something nuts.

I was hoping Trent would be thinking about all the die-hards waiting for hours at the Physical World presale when he and the band determined setlists for this tour and, if these shows were any indication, it certainly feels that way. Cold & Black & Infinite seems like it's going to be very special - it already is!

Fuck we are really lucky to have Nine Inch Nails.

I was contemplating looking at tonight's setlist back and forth all evening. I'm the kind of person who would snoop around looking for my Christmas presents well before Christmas. Anyway, with that said... I lost and went to setlist.fm, instead of scrolling top of setlist to bottom, I decided to try something new, knowing fully the best songs are usually played earlier in the set and the "hits" are usually reserved for the end of the night, so I started slowly going up and up and up and then I saw (live debut) in brackets I said to myself "that's enough!" And I stopped dead in my tracks. I did not scroll up another bit to find out what was debuted, and that's enough for me. I'm done. Im not looking at another setlist for the rest of this tour. Im going to attend the 2 LA shows on 12-11 and 12-12. It's going to be hard to stay away from the sets between now and then, but it'll be worth it. I doubt there will be any "live debuts" by that point in the tour. Best we can hope for is an album being played in full for LA. Well, peace out friends. Enjoy the spoilers as the unravel over the next couple months. Gonna be hard avoiding them on social media.

Yeah... sorry about that TDS post everyone. It started out proper, then I jumped the gun.

Friendly reminder to myself to put the phone away during a concert and not speculate. Lesson learned. They did play a majority of it though.

Ah yes, Setlist.fm posted The Perfect Drug. Wouldn't be a setlist update without that trolling.

Yeah, TPD was not played.

Very good show but last night was hard to top. Good Soldier and Beginning Of The End were played, for YZ fans.

Holy fuck. "Yes... Everyone seems to be asleep" out of "The Fireman" going into that "Mr. Self Destruct" intro sample is hype af.

Man that intro for last night was fucking baller, love it! Also I gotta gripe about Happiness In Slavery, it needs 2 guitars. Ally is essentially playing Danny's part but on bass, I think it should be guitar. When Robin is wailing his guitar before the instrumental breakdown, or when doing the outro IMO it's missing that 2nd guitar. Also it's weird to hear it without that Robin solo after the breakdown (they performed it more album version), hope they bring that back. Oh and Trents keyboard was too low in the mix (from videos I've seen), I really want to hear him rocking that synth part. Other than that total kick ass.

No.

I really hope they are headlining the laneways festivals with a few side dates. I’m sure the demand is there to justify coming over this way. If not I’ll have to fork out flying from New Zealand to US for a December date. 17 hour flight isn’t appealing though.

Theres no reason to think that there’s absolutely no way they’d play Australia sometime over this touring cycle, though, however long or short it might be. It may be after like a 6-month hiatus or something, but there’s just as much a chance they announce a second leg for North America as one for Australia. Maybe a small chance, if at all. Who actually, really knows? Can’t see the future. Otherwise we’d all have our arrangements made for the 2050 “Wave Goodbye For Real Tho Tour” already.

In 2009, a lot of us thought we weren’t getting any more shows at all, ever, and look how well that’s worked out. Who’s to say what will happen in 2019?

I’m still coming down from the two Phoenix shows. It really is like Christmas. You wait and wait and wait and then..ITS HERE! And it’s AMAZING! But I’m a little melancholy today because I’m not going to any other show on the tour and who knows the next time they’ll tour after this. I truly am so grateful that I had the means and opportunity to see them two nights in a row. It was a cathartic experience for me, I got a lot of pent up anger and frustration out singing along.

Im excited for all of you who have shows scheduled in the near future, very interested and excited to see those set lists. And as for those LA shows, they’re going to be something special! I’ll be a little jealous if one of the shows on this tour is mostly The Fragile songs, as that’s my favorite album. Glad to be a part of this community and this experience.

EDIT: also, if anyone wants to see some of my posts from the shows, my Instagram name is the same as on here ItsChrisRoss

The Joint really is a special venue and it was the most unique way to see the band I’ve ever had, with almost everyone staying in the same building. I’m not surprised they have a great time there, even if it blows that Canada and the Northwest are totally ignored this tour (and selfishly I hate that it’s been 4 years since the last FL shows, I’d love to see them without having to travel again).

Man the flights for me just don't work and are too much for Vegas this time, bummer. I was at the first Vegas show in June and my flight was only 200 round trip, the cheapest I could get now is like 270 or more. Kinda aggregated Vegas gets 2 more shows with so many people getting skiped, that said seeing my favorite band at the hard rock was deffently a bucket list event for me. Yeah, I'm extremely disappointed about the lack of Florida dates. Maybe there's hope for another short tour next year to hit some neglected areas. Might not be cost-effective, though, unless it's a lot of multi-date residencies.

It’s odd too since they’ve previously been really good about making stops in the Orlando/Tampa/Miami markets, it’s hard to think that no venues would have booked them so it’s got to be due to scheduling. It’d be amazing if they could do a shorter one month run in February/March of some markets they skipped but I wouldn’t bet on it. It’s like we’re one step away from an official Hard Rock residency.

I could be very wrong but I feel like I remember reading somewhere in the past year an interview where Trent mentions that the plan was to tour in some capacity big or small every year for a year a while. So yeah, really hoping that he does a smaller Spring tour next year and hits up us small places. This is the longest gap between NIN shows for me since I started going to NIN shows over a decade ago. That was so infuriating. It was bad enough on the 2006 summer tour but then when Trent brought him back out BOTH NIGHTS in Chicago for the Wave Goodbye shows...I was PISSED. He completely ruined Reptile as well. His voice is annoying enough as it is but forgetting lyrics and fucking up timing made it even worse. I certainly hope there's none of that tonight or tomorrow.
