I really missed this one from the old ETS...it kept me up waaaaaaaaaaay too late on a number of nights. Post creepy shit here. Photos, videos, stories, whatever.

This kind of gives me the willies. I'm always skeptical of "ghost shows," but even if there's an innocent explanation, I know that if I ever witnessed that in person, I'd be freaked the fuck out.

This place. It is all of the creepy. Crease Clinic, ex mental asylum, now used by the film industry for various interiors/exteriors. Battlestar fans will recognize the outside steps there as the front of the building Starbuck was imprisoned in on Caprica. Once you're the last person out of the building at night, not much else is creepy. Especially considering the fact that the STILL ACTIVE part of the institution is just up the hill. Awesome.

It has been reported that some victims of torture, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not wake up. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren’t being tortured. The only way that they realized they needed to wake up was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to wake up. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and please wake up.

One of my favorite threads on Old ETS; glad to see it back! I have some of the links that were posted on the other thread on my old computer; I'll see if I can dig them out.

In the mean time, I saw this a while ago on cracked.com and it scared the heck out of me. I've often found sounds to be as creepy as images (if not more sometimes) and this is one of them.

According to cracked (http://www.cracked.com/article_18381_the-5-creepiest-unexplained-broadcasts_p2.html), it's called the "Backward Music Station" and it's broadcasting "
something from the fucking bowels of Hell itself". You can read more in the article, including attempts at an explanation for it. Here is an example of what it sounds like:

UGH I LOVE THIS SO MUCH

I was listening to Kate Bush's "Waking the Witch" the other day and there's this part full of people whispering "wake up!" and it made me think of this.

Wow I love this kind of "what the hell happened here?" kind of events. Never heard of this until now. I only hope, if hollywood does decide to do something on it that it NOT be yet another "we found some footage and here it is in raw form" type of film. That whole deal is getting old. I far prefer the "here's what we discovered and here is our best guess as to how it occurred" kind of movie.

Apparently there are these sounds that people are hearing all over the world from "the sky" and they are now calling it "UAO" - unidentified audible objects - and that they only just started this year.

This is a montage of some example videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ2ZcmMxehk&feature=related)

This blog has been following and debunking / exploring a lot of them. (http://strangesoundsinthesky.com/)

That video creeped me out! Now I'm going to be paranoid when I go outside...

Four things I think it could be... 1) it could be the trumpets (of the apocalypse) or 2) (I hate to be all NIN fan about it) it could be the Presence (although it's not showing up visually yet) or 3) Massive shifts in atmospheric pressure change in high altitude or 4) Government(s) conspiracy.

I caught up on this subject a few days ago too, if it's legit it's very creepy and awesome at the same time. But I have a feeling that at least some of the videos (in general, not necessarily the ones you posted) are bullshit, in one video the sounds heard are very clearly the blaring of the Tripods from Spielberg's War of the Worlds. Is there a way to tell if a sound has been added in a video artificially?

EDIT: The blog you linked to is very helpful, it appears that some of the videos are definitely fake, in that they have the exact sounds (blaring, birds, background noises and all) as others. But there also genuine videos for sure. Some of the rumbles/hummings/whistling sounds seem undisputable, the question is what is causing them. Right now, my money is on atmospheric, electromagnetic phenomena. Similar occurances have been recorded as far back as mid-19th century. One person in the blog commented that in that period of the 19th century, the largest solar flare ever recorded had occured (Carrington super flare). Whatever the cause, the sounds are creepy as hell.

Holy shit...it just hit me. This is exactly like what I noticed before bed about a week ago. I live about two miles from a small airport (no jets, just small planes), and chalked it up as air traffic...until I realized that it was drawing out a lot longer than any plane I'd heard here before, and without seeming to change distance. Haha I saw that game live, and about 150 other Rays games this past season. The sound is the wind. Tropicana Field is the last indoor baseball stadium (some have retractable roofs now) and when it storms, which is quite frequently in St. Pete, then wind can get to sounding pretty crazy.

I lived in an old house that had me convinced it was haunted. Similar to the "mom downstairs" I recall my wife yelling at our daughter to go to bed after seeing her cross the computer room down the hall. At that very moment her older sister was standing with us and said "um, mom she's already in bed, that wasn't her". We'd occasionally see/hear other odd stuff since then until we called the landlord and asked if they ever heard reports of odd stuff in the house. The landlord got instantly defensive asking "What what did you see? It's all been reported as benign and never malevolent. Have you told anyone else?" Right then I knew this was more than a bunch of weird coincidences.

I meant to look for those when I went home for Easter last week, and completely forgot. Decided to take a back road on my way home from my Saturday bagel walk, and found the first and third books - with the original artwork - at a garage sale for ten cents each. A few years ago, a mother and father decided they needed a break, so they wanted to head out for a night on the town. They called their most trusted babysitter. When the babysitter arrived, the two children were already fast asleep in bed. So the babysitter just got to sit around and make sure everything was okay with the children.

Later that night, the babysitter got bored and went to watch TV, but she couldn’t watch it downstairs because they did not have cable downstairs (the parents didn’t want children watching too much garbage). So, she called them and asked them if she could watch cable in the parent’s room. Of course, the parents said it was ok, but the babysitter had one final request… she asked if she could cover up the angel statue outside the bedroom window with a blanket or cloth, at the very least close the blinds, because it made her nervous.

The phone line was silent for a moment, and the father who was talking to the babysitter at the time said, “Take the children and get out of the house… we will call the police. We do not have an angel statue.”
The police found all three of the house occupants dead within three minutes of the call. No angel statue was ever found.

Has anyone ever heard of the Eridanus Supervoid? It's a hole in the universe that was discovered in 2007, with absolutely nothing it it. No planets, no stars, no dark energy, nothing. It's bigger than any other known hole in the observable universe. At one billion light years wide, and nobody has any concrete idea what caused it (because it shouldn't exist according to what we know about the creation of the universe being relatively uniform) or what it's doing there.

One billion lightyears wide is inconceivably massive, see. And there's nothing in it.

The best explanation anyone has right now is that it's a super-super massive black hole, sitting there in space, munching on entire galaxies. Here's a picture, it's crappy but can help you get an idea of the scale involved.

The phone line was silent for a moment, and the father who was talking to the babysitter at the time said, “Take the children and get out of the house… we will call the police. We do not have an angel statue.”
The police found all three of the house occupants dead within three minutes of the call. No angel statue was ever found.
UPDATE:
They actually found it, but the STATUE OF LIMITATIONS HAD RUN OUT!!!

I guess I'll post this here.

After work last night/this morning (around 4:30 am, so it was still plenty dark), I felt like going for a drive and just parking out of town somewhere to look at the stars for a while. I haven't done that for a couple years. Felt pretty good. Just parked and laid out on the back of the car for about 15 or 20 minutes.

But when I hopped off my trunk to head home, I just happened to look up in the sky over the hood of my car, and I saw the weirdest fucking shooting star/UFO/whatever the fuck I've seen in a looong time. (I swear to God, I saw one when I was little. No doubt about it. I still remember where I was and everything.) It was only for a second or two, but this huge red/white light was falling at an almost horizontal angle, like any shooting star, and after a moment of following that path, it just veered straight down from where it was, no curve or anything, like it just dropped straight from the sky to somewhere I couldn't see. It was completely quiet out there, not a car or house for miles, and all I could say was "What in the fuck??" out loud, and I stood there for a minute to see if I could hear or see anything else...Nothin'. So I just drove home and kept looking out the window in that direction, hoping I'd see something else.

It very well could have been some kind of weird shooting star or debris I guess, but the way that thing moved was too...I dunno, unnatural. I don't know of anything that moves in the sky that just makes 90 degree turns/drops THAT fast.

I saw a UFO or something too not long ago, it was shocking, it was just "lights in the sky" (no Pun intended) and they disapeared but the were very low, so im pretty sure it wasn't a plane, it was creepy alright!

I wish I could say I've seen anything like that. I see satellites all the time (of course, part of me wonders if it's something else. Not like anyone can tell for sure, it's in friggin' space), but almost never anything like that.

I remember another time when I was on a walk a few years ago, on a pretty well-lit street right by our house. I mean, I could walk 5 feet to my right and hop the fence, and I'd be in you backyard. I was just walking along, my head down and kinda nodding to some music, and I remember seeing a BRIGHT blue light light up the entire area around me. I thought it was a car, so I glanced behind me to move out of its way, but it was nothing. I looked around really quick, looked up at the sky, and there was a fucking...something, flying through the sky. It wasn't a ship or vessel or thing with lights on it, but it looks like a really, REALLY low shooting star or something. It was low enough that it freaked me out and stopped me dead in my tracks and had me bracing for some kind of impact. I could see bits and chunks flying off of this thing while it was giving off a really bright blue and white light. After a couple seconds, it broke up into several flying pieces and it all just disappeared.

Whatever it was, I just couldn't believe how freaking bright it was. I've never seen anything in the sky close enough to light up an already lit-up city street, except for fireworks. But this thing was definitely NOT a firework. Definitely some random debris or something. Damn near gave me a heart attack when I saw it falling.

By the way, the videos about the noises remind me of when I stumbled across this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hum

Yeah. The beauty of these is that they can't be too hard to create - the human eye is naturally drawn towards the brightest point in an image (or so claimed every photo professor I ever had), so all you have to do is get a nice bright photo with an inauspicious corner in which to hide something freaky. This one doesn't quite fit that description, but it startled me when I caught it.

In all seriousness, though, I looked for a few minutes, too, and the only thing I noticed was that, on the far left side of the picture, there appears to be some sort of pale white "demon" on one of the trees. I found out about this from this thread on the old board last year some time. I watched nearly all of the Marble Hornets (http://www.youtube.com/user/MarbleHornets/videos?sort=da&view=0) videos, at night, at my mom's, which is out in the middle of fucking Amish country. Every time I had to go to the bathroom or let the dog out I was legitimately terrified that he was outside watching me. It's probably my favorite thing that's come of this thread since it still freaks me out from time to time.

Some of the Slenderman photos are pretty great.

This one in particular

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o129/DavFlamerock/slenderman2.jpg

I wonder if the general concept was influenced at all by the character "Pipes" from the one-off broadcast of "Ghostwatch."
I really love Ghostwatch... a really clever idea, with impressive execution considering. Too bad it never got the exposure it deserved outside of the UK, but then again maybe the impact would be considered lessened... not only because people outside the UK would not be familiar with the telecasters, but the whole "this is a live broadcast" element would be completely spoiled.

Still, if you're into creepy stuff, youtube "Ghostwatch." Last I checked the entire broadcast is on there. I'd love to see them try to pull off something like that again today.

As for the above photo - it's much better than a lot of the others in that Something Awful thread, in terms of technical quality. But the multiple arms thing just moves it from "holy fuck, I can see that happening" to downright fiction. Subtle shit freaks me the fuck out. Like this.

This isn't ghost story creepy, but it's really creepy in my book.

A few years ago, I photographed a Memorial Day parade for one of the newspapers I was freelancing for. Among hundreds of other frames, there was a Korean War vet with a poster his granddaughter had written and signed before taping it to the back of his wheelchair. There's a few photos of that, then a few from the front of the man and his granddaughter.

Last year, the man's daughter (the girl's mother) killed them both before killing herself.

For the first time since taking and filing the shots, I just found them in my archives. I just stared at the one frame of the two of them for ten solid minutes, because my brain simply shut down entirely. I know I won't be sleeping well tonight.

I'm staying in the creepiest hotel I've ever been in. the building is a weird triangle-frame shape (think the lines that would cut a triangle into thirds), everything looks outdated, light bulbs burned out, AC outlets that don't work, room doors that don't close behind you and the old school chain locks...all that's missing is the 20" CRT TV. Although with the thunderstorms we're having now, the dozen-ish channels of analog satellite that we get all say "no signal".

There's this meseum about an hour north of where I live in Kansas City that's an old Psychiatric Museum built in an actual old Psychiatric Hospital and their crowning jewel is THIS:
http://www.dailyyarnsnmore.com/mid_life_bliss/2012/06/stomach-contents.html

Among that peice of awesome creeptastic, the basement also features an active morgue that is still used every now and then when other morgues are overbooked. You can walk down into it and they've got a slab open and since it's active it's cold as FUCK. There are also plenty of rooms set up as replica psychiatric rooms with torture devices etc. It's crazy. If god forbid you ever find yourself near the shithole of St Joseph Missouri, I'd highly suggest you check it out.

yeah....i took some of their other ones too and it was creepy and accurate. then you have to read the information about how these tests came about, equally a creepy story. the guy was commissioned by some doctors overseas...and well, if you have the time read the info because it's very strange.

I'd really like to read more about the origin of this test. Link, please? Thanks.

Today, I learned about UVB-76 (http://www.wired.com/2011/09/ff_uvb76/), and it's exquisitely creepy. Military application? Doomsday related? Or just some weird scientific testing that, for some reason, has continued for decades and through multiple regime changes with no explanation?

Reminds me to the HAARP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Frequency_Active_Auroral_Research_Program) project, i even read once the main goal of the project was to control the weather, creepy...

I've been thinking lately about the "Numbers stations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_station)", strange spoken broadcasts picked up in short wave radios that repeat a number sequence (sometimes it's a woman's voice, sometimes there's children voices...)

Welcome to my life! I open one Wiki page and 5 hours and lots of pages later, I wonder where time went. Avoid the "list of..." pages at all cost!

Also: there are many rational explanations but it's still kind of cool and you never know: it might be the real McCoy!

Taxi drivers in tsunami disaster zone report picking up ghost passengers (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/japan/12111749/Taxi-drivers-in-tsunami-disaster-zone-report-ghost-passengers.html)

One of the men told Ms Kudo that a woman climbed into his taxi near Ishinomaki Station just a few months after the disaster. She asked him to go to the Minamihama district, to which the driver said there was nothing left standing there.
The driver recounted that the woman asked, "Have I died?" and, when he turned to look, his taxi was empty.

Last Monday my ex told me a history about a couple she's friends with:

They used to have a "goblin" in their house, it wasn't like a "traditional" one if you could describe it, it would look like "a black dog standing up".
The creature moved really fast and was always around the house, both persons on the couple were able to see it but were growing desperate of it, so one time they decided to chase it with an axe, but the creature moved so fast it was impossible to catch it.
It all "ended" when they were at home and they overheard her daughter say: "Hi, who are you...", at that moment they decided to abandon their house for good.

Fuckin' creepy stuff...

Well i haven't seen her lately so that's all... As far as i know the "Thing" was a presence that kept moving around the house really fast, it didn't tried to do anything else till they tried to chase it with an Axe, gotta ask her if she's talked with them lately...

Also: I recently found this Youtube channel called: "Dad's tapes"; it's some kind of "webseries" about the VHS tapes supposedly found by this guy that used to belong to his dad (who apparently was the Zodiac or had to do with him).
The videos are short, but very creepy, i liked the idea, it's obviously not real but gave me chills anyway...

Right? Unfortunately, I didn't realize until re-reading the wiki page (AFTER posting it) that they've since figured out who did it, and a whole lot more has been explained. Last I had seen this, there was literally no credible lead whatsoever on who was responsible and all sorts of freaky chaos theories. It takes a LOT to really just unsettle me, and this nailed it. Major credit to the person responsible.

i am pretty much a "gentleman of leisure" these days, and having a profound adoration for the esoteric, mysterious, and macabre, spend at LEAST a couple of hours a day looking into these subjects. I even sift through off-the-deep-end conspiracy theories in search of the rare, disturbing bit of god awful truth.
What i REALLY enjoy is mysteries that can't be solved or debunked.
I also get into purposely creepy youtube videos and such. I have a veritable mental cornucopia of these types of things.

here are a couple of my all time favorites, as far as, ahem, "art" goes.

Are you guys familiar with Shayne Saint John and the "hand thing?" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtSgWZbL_kE&feature=youtu.be) Some people think it's funny, but it scares the living shit out of me for some reason.

"Dining Room" aka "There Is Nothing" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdKOC3m3a1A) is fucking awesome, and i'm fairly certain that it's the same forwards and backwards.

I'd imagine most of you have seen these. I'm just dipping my toes in the water here.
I could go on about this stuff for hours-youtube videos, alleged incidents, and personal experiences alike, but i will save some for later.

This site is live streaming a supposedly haunted doll for the next two weeks (http://www.the-line-up.com/live-cam-meet-ann-our-haunted-doll/?utm_campaign=TLU+Brand&utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=IN_SK_6045260947901)

The Lineup has gotten hold of a doll called Ann who is said to be haunted by the spirit of a little girl who died at the Waverly Hills Sanatorium in the 20s. So they set up a live stream for the doll where you and I can watch to see if she moves or whatever she feels like doing and they are going to conduct tests with Ann. Scrolling down the page will get you to the log detailing what has happened already.

Just the idea of watching a live stream of a doll is creepy to me.

Oh and if you feel inclined, you can own the doll at the end of the two weeks.

One of these days I should take a camera and walk around the building that I work in and post it. It's an old Theater built in the first decade of the 1900s, and was used as a Vaudeville Theater until the mid-30's then, transformed into a movie theater which last until the 80s. Then it sat empty for 20 years before being somewhat renovated. So currently our theater is built within the building and there are there are still a LOT of spots around the building that are hidden.

A few examples, down in the basement, you can crawl through a hole in the wall that leads you to the original orchestra pit door/pit that is still VERY creepily in tact. Our entire upper balcony is still in tact, and if you climb up to the top of the old Projection booth area, you can shimmy along a wall to a ladder at the other end of the room. And if you crawl up that ladder it leads to two things: an old steel crate that is locked super tight (rumors are that it holds either booze or hidden money/weapons stashed by KC Mafia who used the building as an illegal speak-easy during Prohibition and smuggled booze through a man-made underground tunnel, that is now filled in sadly, to a hotel across the street. ALL TRUE.) and to your right of that box is an a weird square room with old elevator pulleys and a door that is probably about half a foot thick of solid steel. So many employees have had "experiences" in that building at one point or another that its kinda crazy. And yes, it is historically proven that multiple people have in fact either died or been murdered in that building. The most recent being a guy who was stabbed to death while watching Flash Gordon in the 80s.

Oh no we've tried. Its like bolted shut by a giant screw that is probably the size of my fist, but it's so rusted and stripped that it's virtually impossible. And I don't think our GM actually cares enough to pay someone to come open it, so everyone just always fantasizes about what's in there.

Wait a minute .. there's an explanation for the catacombs video? I've never seen one. You have a link by any chance?

The proof is more in the fact that there is no existing uncut version of the entire video. The expose on it was part of an ABC tv show about the most haunted places in the world. The same show had been outed on another occasion of fabricating their "evidence" and making stuff up. That tv show is the only source of the footage.

Now, think about it... the footage on that video would be important evidence to turn into the police. It would be a matter of public interest, as the person from the video could be missing, and their family might want to know about it.
But we're to believe that this guy just can't be bothered to upload the full video?

Additionally, he stages some really obvious things... The most obvious of which is his claim that the catacombs are sealed off from the public. That's not true. You can go in with a guide for a two kilometer tour for 5 euros. I'm not sure of the exact timeline here either, but it seems that this ABC episode would have been released shortly after the Blair Witch Project found-footage craze, so it seems likely that it was trying to tap into that. All signs point towards it being completely staged.

I agree with some of your arguments.
From the video, there's really no way to identify the person. Who knows if the police was informed. Is it possible to sweep the entire catacombs for a missing person? I really doubt that.
My biggest issue with the video is the fact that he dropped his cam for no apparent reason, except to create some "found footage".

elevenism I think you're going to like this one.

I came upon it yesterday while on one of my Wikipedia Adventures.

Return to Babylon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_to_Babylon) is a black & white silent movie that was made in 2013; it's about the lives of silent area movie stars. As it says in the article, part of the marketing of the movie was made about a claim that the film is haunted, with reports of all sorts of paranormal phenomenas.

So I went looking for the film and for some more info. Never found the film (according to a thread on the imdb boards, there's "clearances issues" about it) but I found a couple of articles about the creepy stuff.

And it is creepy indeed:

http://moviepilot.com/posts/2866261

http://paranormalistics.blogspot.ca/2012/09/return-to-babylon.html

Okay, it's probably due to matrixing or pareidolia but still, creepy! Then again, there is plenty of creepy stuff to be found about silent area Hollywood I think.

Someone find me this movie!

People kept telling me that reading about sleep paralysis would creep me the fuck out. I kept thinking "what, the sensation where you feel momentarily unable to move after waking from a dream?

Oh. Nope, wayyyyy different.

It is often accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallucination) to which one is unable to react due to paralysis, and physical experiences (such as strong current running through the upper body). These hallucinations often involve a person or supernatural creature suffocating or terrifying the individual, accompanied by a feeling of pressure on one's chest and difficulty breathing. Another common hallucination type involves intruders (human or supernatural) entering one's room or lurking outside one's window

There were 2 coyotes outside of our house last night. Now I'm looking up what to do if you run into a coyote. They don't usually kill humans, but sometimes they attack them. We live a block away from a a ravine. That's where the animals come from.

Oh. Nope, wayyyyy different.

I used to suffer from this pretty frequently when I was in undergrad. When I realized I was having an episode, I would begin to breathe very rapidly and shallowly to get the attention of my GF at the time. She would wake me up to bring me out of them. After we broke up, I read more and more about it, and how to deal with it. Much of the time, they say it's a precursor to lucid dreaming. I began to go with it, and not fight it, and was able to have a few sustained LD experiences. Once I had a few of them, the night terrors became far more infrequent, maybe one per year or so. I recently had one a few months ago, though, that freaked me the fuck out. Everything went black, and I stayed with it, then there were some creepy AF ghouls/reaper type figures, and I started the heavy breathing to get my wife's attention. She woke me up, asked what was wrong, and I told her nothing. She scares easily, and I didn't want to tell her the details of the dream.

But, if this ruins the mystery for you, there's always the Khamar Daban incident, which was strangely similar, and, also occurred in the mountains of Russia.

You cannot read House of Leaves on an e-reader; it's not possible, so please don't.

Well, I guess it is but the whole premise of the book is that it's a physical object in your hands. You absolutely need to experience it that way or you miss a huge part of what it's trying to do.

Also:
In 2017, Danielewski entered talks to adapt the novel into a TV series.[10] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Leaves#cite_note-10)[11] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Leaves#cite_note-11) with Danielewski stating that if a deal was not made by February 2020, the project would be abandoned.[12] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Leaves#cite_note-12) However, the screenplays have since been published online.[13] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Leaves#cite_note-13) The screenplays present a sequel to the book, extending the story to the present day: the first three published episodes set up a conflict between Mélisande Avignon, a filmmaker who witnessed and filmed Johnny's discovery of The Navidson Record, and Skiadyne, a "data disposal" company which successfully suppressed public knowledge of both The Navidson Record and Avignon's film. Both sides, joined by private security personnel, fight for control of the films after unknown parties steal the films from Skiadyne and return them to Avignon.what the hell?! I need to find those screenplays. I always thought there was a really good horror film based on The Navidson Record part of the book, I wish this could have gone on. Mike Flanagan would knock it out of the park and I could totally see Hamish Linklater as Navidson.

Oh right, sorry. well it's still creepy so still on topic! whew.

edit: almost forgot why I was reading the wiki in the first place!

House of Leaves was accompanied by a companion piece (or vice versa), a full-length album (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album) called Haunted (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haunted_(Poe_album)) recorded by Danielewski's sister, Anne Danielewski (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poe_(singer)), known professionally as Poe. The two works cross-pollinated heavily over the course of their creations, each inspiring the other in various ways. Poe's statement on the connection between the two works is that they are parallax (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallax) views of the same story. House of Leaves references Poe and her songs several times, not only limited to her album Haunted, but Hello (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hello_(Poe_album)) as well. One example occurs when the character Karen Green is interviewing various academics on their interpretations of the short film "Exploration #4"; she consults a "Poet," but there is a space between the "Poe" and the "t," suggesting that Poe at one point commented on the book. It may also be a reference to Edgar Allan Poe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Allan_Poe).

The album Haunted also draws heavily from the novel, featuring tracks called "House of Leaves", "Exploration B" and "5&½ Minute Hallway", and many less obvious references. The video for "Hey Pretty (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hey_Pretty)" also features Mark Danielewski reading from House of Leaves (pp. 88–89), and in House of Leaves, the band Liberty Bell's lyrics were also songs on Poe's album.

Ah, S.
S. by J.J. Abrams, Doug Dorst (Goodreads Author) (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17860739-s)
Much like how Nightmare Before Christmas has Tim Burton's name on it though all he actually did was direct Batman Returns, this is not a J.J. joint.

January 30, 2017 – Finished Reading
November 30, 2016 – page 10 2.19% "Trying this one again."
March 22, 2014 – Started ReadingIt took me almost three years to read because I realized that you have to read it three times (!!!) to get the meaning behind the notes. I did not read it three times. I gave up on the writing in the margins because the main story itself, about the Ship of Theseus, was way more compelling than whatever the two other characters were doing.

I did enjoy what the book was trying to do with the puzzles, but some of the puzzles relied on in-world explanations and in-world books that you don't have access to and that just pissed me off.

HoL did it first and if you liked S. please try it out. The actual story is way more compelling in the end.

Damn the premise of that book sounds so cool.

It certainly is a very impressive work, though not always easy to get through. Depending on your mood, you may find it completely engrossing or obnoxious. It's not a book to read lightly, or with a lot of distractions around you. For example, when I read it I was between jobs and had relatively ample free time to sit and read. Nowadays, due to work and family I mostly read on my way to and from work and just before I fall asleep at night. I don't think House of Leaves would be a good fit for that.

allegate I think House of Leaves is, hands down, the most frightening thing I've ever read.

And I don't even think "read" is the right word: you EXPERIENCE that thing.
You sort of live in it, and I hope this doesn't sound too crazy, but I feel like it still lives in ME, in a small way, in that, the feeling I get when thinking of it is so intense.

The only other thing I've found to be as immersive, in such a powerful and intimate way, is Infinite Jest.
