And now we know that something will be shown at E3 in June. Launch will be single player campaign only, though there will be multiplayer and expansions down the road. Current and next-gen consoles and PC. I'm so hyped for this.

Mike Pondsmith, who designed the original TTRPG that Cyberpunk 2077 is based on, spoke about the game in a video for CDPR back in 2013. His particular pitch is what originally piqued my interest in the game. In part because it reassured me that game was going to reckon with the issues the genre of cyberpunk is about writ large, instead of just mining that space for "cool" aesthetics.

CD Projekt describes the game as a "first-person RPG."
Gameplay is in first a first-person perspective, but switched to third-person during a cutscene.
You play a character named V (as in the letter).
V can be a man or a woman.
The stats you pick at the start include Strength, Constitution, Intelligence, Reflexes, Tech, and Cool.
These stats are all pulled from the original tabletop RPG.
There are no classes at the start. Instead, you evolve the class you want to be as you play instead of picking a role.
You can drive cars in the game, and seemingly toggle between first and third person during this.
While driving in first-person, the U.I. appears diegetically on the windshield.
You can engage in combat while driving -- AI took over steering as you lean out the window and shoot at enemies.
CD Projekt also described Cyberpunk as a "mature experience intended for mature audiences."
The goal is for you to not only engage with the game world, but with its inhabitants.
Like Witcher, you take missions from NPCs and have dialogue options in conversations.
It's an open world that you open up more with "street cred." For example, a specific jacket might raise it by 5%, allowing you access to new places.
Completing a quest levels up your street cred.
The UI in the demo is extremely minimal at -- just a light compass and a small quest log.
UI expands during combat -- enemies have names, health bars, and what appear to be levels.
Some enemies have question marks instead of levels, possibly meaning they're much higher level than you.
Damage numbers pop up during combat.
There's a bullet-time-like ability that allows you to slow down time.
CD Projekt keeps emphasizing that choices have consequences, in the moment and to the world at large.
Obstacles have several solutions depending on your skills. For example, V got to a door, but his hacking skill was too low. However, his engineering skill was high enough, so he could open a panel and bypass the door.
There's an inspection system lets you look super close at items and learn more about lore.
You use an inhaler to heal.
Gunplay feels slower than Doom or Borderlands, but faster than Fallout 4.
CD Projekt showed off some late-game abilities, including mantis-like blade arms and wall running.
We saw a boss fight against a dude in an exoskeleton. This included sliding under cars and taking cover.

CDPR is really good optimizing their games and getting the most out of their engines. Witcher looked great and ran smoothly, especially after a few updates, and that's that they have an even bigger staff of people working on this game than they did W3. I have faith that it'll look awesome.

But yeah, I'm definitely upgrading all my pc shit before this comes out so that it can look as good as possible.

The Witcher series, and Saints Row 2. There is a book coming out in July that gives you a backstory as to what is going on in the world.

The Witcher 3 was a top 5 game of this decade despite launching with too many bugs. They know it too. They released a statement stating the game is essentially finished, but they want it as polished and bug free as possible. I don't mind the delay if that is the case. Despite those statements, I still think they're having issues with it running on current gen APUs. The game has a shitload of AI. If nothing else, hopefully it will be running great on PCs, as this game is the sole reason I built a new system. Other than that, new consoles will be upon launch as well, so if you aren't going the PC route, just get a next gen console. I can't imagine trying to play this game on an Xbox One or PS4.

The main story is good, but the side quests and parallel stories from random encounters are what make it one of the greatest action RPGs ever. Especially the expansion stories. Witcher 3 has high replay ability for these reasons. I played the game on a annual basis for three years and it blew me away how much content you will encounter just from exploring that you never knew was even there. Really detailed interactions with their own sub-plots as well. Some of the side quests are better than entire good games on their own.

I suggest stating you did not kill him or be unawares if he is dead to have a most badass quest with him. Plus he helps you at a critical point later in the main story. There are other characters you'll want to keep alive (if possible) as well as the main quest unfolds. A particular sorceress. But I don't want to spoil.

I bought the game also on the switch and gave it another chance still didn't click for me. The game is huge and seems awesome but like jinsai said it didn't click but do hope it does for me one day as well. Maybe I should play it on easy mode and get use to it. Sometimes if I'm going through a depression spell and try a game it goes over my head and I miss the chance to fall in love with it. This is exactly what happened when I tried to get into monster hunter world. So far this year my favorite games have been Nioh 2, RE3, Doom Eternal, Breath of the wild, FF7, also went through every resident evil game I haven't played which was basically all of them minus 7, and 2. Didn't mean to throw the cyberpunk conversation off, just some random thoughts.


BTW that new Xbox cyber punk theme console is pretty fantastic, I bet it's going to worth a shit ton in the future. Probably a good investment.

i'm 99% sure it's not a timed exclusive. CDPR already confirmed it's for both this gen and next gen, with both Sony and Microsoft getting free upgrades if you buy them on current systems, with pre-orders for both having been available awhile now. The way Pawel Sasko speaks about this game really shows you how much he adores and loves this project. With an anime coming out two years after the game release, seems like Cyberpunk is a thing that will be around for years to come.

The Gameplay looks almost too good to be true and that was just a bit of prologue! I don't see any game beating this for GOTY if it delivers.

Perhaps. I do know that the word online regarding the first official delay (from Apr to Sept) was that it apparently ran like shit on the OG Xbox One and PS4. Talking like the original 2013 XB1 launch console. They apparently gave themselves until the end of 2019 to make it work and if come 2020 it was still trash, despite April still being 4 months away, they'd bite the bullet. And bite it they did when that time came and it was still 'extremely unsatisfactory' on those.

As for this? They of course kept it vague as to which specific iteration was the culprit, but at this point I just wanna play the fuckin' thing haha.

I'm sure it's to do with the optimization/support for the next gen platforms that would be launching alongside it. They imply something like that, and also seem to imply that it was working and ready to go otherwise, and that this is just to delay release until the day 1 patch is ready. Would that imply they've already printed physical copies, or sent them in for printing? If that's the case, I really doubt they're going to delay much longer.

The release of the next gen consoles seem to be a huge clusterfuck in their own right and I can totaly understand that they want to get this right for the new consoles. But still, this is some pretty bad time management on their side and probably some bad management and communcation on behalf of Sony and Microsoft.

I guess the need to release this before christmas and in line with the new consoles was too big of an opportunity to miss though. Personally I would have skipped the older consoles in favor of maxing this one out. Yet, their explanation of "going gold" is pretty stretched in that statement.

Might be in the minority here, but so far I have a lot of doubts that this game will meet expectations they way they've handled it with too much press and buzz imho and these constant delays. To be fair this game was announced a year before the PS4 and X1 had even been out, to not throw folks a bone with the current systems would be a dick move IMO. I don't really see it as an obligation to satisfy a certain crowd if it was the genuine development goal before the next-gen started drawing near and necessitated the upgrade. I see it as less of a hold up so much as making sure all bases are covered for what was already planned in the first place, no different than if they were releasing any other game at any other time, it just happens to be on the heels of a new gen launch.

Honestly at this point if the game needs more time, take it. At this point, it's actually probably likely that there will be a pirated PC version floating around long before the game launches. Honestly, I could never gel with the mechanics in the Witcher games, so I wasn't really expecting to love the gameplay. With this the world is a lot more appealing to me than anything else.

I cannot relate to Witcher, for I have never played any of them. I hear mixed reviews with the mechanics that they are straight up bad, or it depends on how you play the game?

For cyber, specifically, the first person mechanics that were shown off a few months ago were nothing to be desired for, and it is the same thing with these new leaks. The swordplay looks janky and laughably bad, some romantic scenes are so awkward it made my skin crawl... the list goes on.

I am seriously considering waiting until the next gen upgrade is released. I am trying really hard not to pass judgment until that day one patch is implemented in, but it is difficult to believe everything will magically be fixed by it. The world is also what I was more interested in, but with the way the game seems to play, the visuals... some of those for me is immersive breaking no matter how good the story may or may not be. We'll know for sure in a few more days!

I love the cyberpunk atmosphere as well, so I'm hoping the game proves me drastically wrong once I get my hands on it, but I guess I'll make that decision of waiting after trying it out at least... So several hours with the base PS4...there are a load of graphical issues (a HELL of a lot of texture popping) and a few crashes...but it isn't stopping me enjoying it. I was saying to a friend who wants it on xbox that it's kinda like a much more in depth Fallout, that game didn't always look "amazing" but the core game was solid. I can defiantly see myself getting lost in this, though depending on patches i might wait for additional playthroughs on next gen. It's playable, but still needs some patch work.

I'm not all that impressed with the character creator though, considering what we've seen on soul calibur and code vein in recent years, it's pretty basic, but it does the job.

Having played for what i could in the morning i'm really starting to hit the game breaking stuff now. When wondering around night city the game will crash randomly (which is a pain but luckily there are some forgiving auto saves) but the game absolutely shits itself if i go into combat in the city, sounds disappear as do my weapons and in some cases animations...it's like trying to fight blind in some cases. And it's not like i can just pop out and get a PS5, those are like gold dust, this is the version i have and it really isn't optimized for base PS4 unfortunately. I hope it gets patched but for now i'm going to have to try and do a passive run and just do story missions.

I almost think it's a good thing that the Series X and PS5 versions aren't quite out yet, not because of the likelihood of them being undercooked but this means that the devs can actually focus on fixing the versions that are out, the ones that everyone has RIGHT NOW and are being primarily vocal about. Yes lol. Boobies and penis' clipping through outfits, upside down cars, random floating stuff, and the biggest of all, collision deaths... I died running into a door.

I was surprised by how bare bones the character creator is. Next to Demon's Souls, it pales considerably.

Looks like that's done the trick, been playing for a few hours and no crashes (thank fuck) and i can actually engage in combat now (though enemies still glitch into the floor) still needs a ton of work (texture popping, people glitching into things etc) but i can actually play the game now, only wasted 2 days off work, awesome!

OK so my personal take on CP2077 (on last gen) is...it's fine, not great or perfect 10/10, just fine. All those 7 out of 10's are kinda what it deserves on last gen. I love the world and the story so far (i'm about 13 hours in but have just been looking around the world) but the bugs, ass funny as some are, REALLY make this game hard to really recommend in it's current state. Also the gameplay is starting to feel...clunky. I'm trying to do a stealth build and the game REALLY hasn't been made for stealth. For example there is no quick kill when you sneak behind an enemy, all you can do is grab and then kill or knock out. If your running around with a sword or knife you'd assume you could just take them out but nope (i went through the upgrades to see if it was an option but couldn't find anything, if anyone does have a quick kill option PLEASE let me know!)
Side note why is there an option to knock people out? There doesn't seem to be any penalty to killing, so knocking them out is kinda pointless (unless you do what i do and knock them out, get your stealth XP and the kill them for more XP)
Also there's a perk for throwing you knife, "GREAT" i though, this can be my quick kill...only it throws you currently equipped knife and then you have nothing equipped in that slot, you also LOSE THE KNIFE, so if it's a good one it's gone forever...it's not really worth it.
It's also been said on here about the character creator and i fully agree, it's kinda basic. When compared to other games it just doesn't hold up. It's only unique feature is 3 different genital and boob sizes...and once the novelty has warn off it's kinda..meh.

All in all i am enjoying it (thanks to the latest patch) but this really feels like it needed more time to polish...hell maybe even just skipping current gen. It's sold really well, but i'd imagine come Jan you'll see ALOT of second hand copies of current gen on the market and returned copies from people annoyed it is in the state it's in on that hardware, and i really can't begrudge anyone that compares it to Fallouts issues. If your lucky enough to have next gen or a great PC then it's worth it, otherwise wait until you do.

Not running smooth anymore lol. I don't know what happened, but there are a lot of muddy textures and running into some pixelated visuals with stuff. The game so far is... Fine. But there is a lot not to be desired for.

The fighting and gunplay is laughably bad, the enemy AI are a bunch of morons, the NPC's are sometimes lifeless and don't even look at you when you speak to them; they're stuck in scripted movements. The city is empty in a lot of areas with NPC models repeating every ten feet or so. Spiderman PS4 and Miles Morales did a better job at this with the city and interacting with people. Oh yea, and the soundtrack is pretty disappointing, but there are some good and hilarious moments from that. The game is simply unplayable at times with the bugs.

What I do like is Jackie as your buddy, some of the cars are cool, but the textures for me are off so they look like shit, but still like the designs and the voice acting is pretty solid.

It sucks that I'm finding more cons than pros here, but the game should have been delayed and released on next gen consoles only and it shows. I feel duped at times when I'm playing this game, and that isn't a good feeling. They rushed this out and now have to play catch up until it is actually fully playable. By the time the next gen upgrades come out, no one will be playing this if it continues down this path. I want to be immersed so bad here, but it isn't clicking atm.

I really hope whoever at the top of CDPR made the choice to release it in this state head's fucking roll. With captain hindsight, this should have JUST released on PC, the console versions should have been delayed to when the next gen versions were out (there's a reason they haven't told us when they are ready) sure they'd have been a fallout, but it would have been a whole lot more manageable then the clusterfuck it is now. ALOT of people's first experience with this will have been the broken version on PS4 and XBONE, and you can't get that back. With this they have done serious damage to their reputation, and it will take a fucking lot to get people back on side.

Well I spoke with customer service at Best Buy and got a refund cancellation for this (they claim UPS lost the package). I am getting steelbook in mail since it was already shipped and the 10.00 gift certificate, which I'll use on a 4K copy of Tenet this Tuesday to ensure I got the money without revocation (doubt there will be for digital goods). I bought it at Walmart today and I just installed it and now I'm reading this press release statement. Least they acknowledge how atrocious it is but clearly it should've been delayed for a 4th or 5th time so it could get its shit sorted out.

I'm confident it will work eventually and I already blew the money so fuck it, I'll back burner it until CDPR has it fixed and running. I got enough games to play in the meantime anyways in my backlog.

I have it on ps5 and I was at the scene where you’re in yorinobu apartment and for some reason the game couldn’t find one of the clues even when my curser was right on top of the clue- his tablet, I did this for like 45 minutes and looked online to see where I went wrong, fun fact I was right the whole time, it was the tablet, the game glitched out and when I restarted the game I found the clue the second the game rebooted, if that make sense to anyone reading this lol. Stupid tablet couldn’t be detected. I’m starting to like the game though I haven’t played it much.

Also, this game feels very much like a computer game on a console, the text in the menu are so tiny I have to put my reading glasses on to read. Fuck man it’s just the little things in the game that are pissing me off

Haven't played CP2077 so I'm just going off what I remember from other games. It's RPG jargon and If I'm understanding it correctly (even i struggle with this stuff sometimes) you're basically rolling a dice each time you deal damage. So out of however many times you hit your target you have a percentage chance of doing some high damage.

Depending on your gear and/or skills it changes whether your chances will be higher or lower.

Critical chance increases your ability/frequency to score a critical hit, which typically does 1.5x - 5x the damage of a standard attack.

Critical damage increases the amount of damage you do with critical attacks, taking you closer to that 5x damage of a standard attack.

There is currently a bug where identical damage mods do not stack across multiple pieces of clothing. This means that you'll want to vary your crit damage and chance mods (i.e. +15% on one mod, +5% on another, etc.). If you have identical percentage modifiers on every piece of clothing, they stop stacking at a certain point (before a soft or hard cap). This is marked as a display bug for the time being, but there is not a target dummy to practice on to be sure.

It's just nuts to think CDPR went from a year ago to being the absolute darling of games publishers/devs, were riding the wave of the Witcher 3 (which IMO is one of those games that is as close to perfect as you can get!) weren't big on microtransactions, proudly stood by their stance of delaying a game to avoid crunch and were strongly committed to releasing this on current gen, too being one of the worst for the crunch, and succumbing to the the greed of making sure they didn't lose all those current gen pre-orders by making sure no one could see how bad it is...and they are still falling.

just started catching up on two weeks of gaming podcasts that I've been missing out on because of a phone switch. their highs of the initial rush of playing it is somewhat funny because you can also hear some tempered "it's great but..." in the way they're talking and you can tell it's like they want to say some more but also want to wait for the patch to see if it gets better. I strayed away from the main story because it honestly was glitching more there than doing side missions oddly. I'm having fun trying to kill enemies I know dam well I cannot defeat, but it is still fun ramming my car over and over into them. There are a few must have guns to find as well.

After every mission, you get like 3 more. At one point I thought the game was glitching and it wasn't supposed to happen, but I hope missions don't start to become the same thing over and over. There have also been a few missions I have found simply by accident.

So, CD Projekt lost about half of it's worth on the stock market and several lawsuits from investors are incoming. Jesus... how could this go so wrong? Alongside the whacky console launches, especially the PS5. Looks like they will be spending the majority of next year to fix this game and everything around it or maybe completely shelve it. Which I highly doubt given how long it's been in developement.

2 hours after the last patch was downloaded on my PS5, the SAME problems keep happening. I took a break from it because I am playing with anxiety the entire time hoping the game won't freeze.

The fact that CDPR said the other day not to hold a lot of items in your inventory, for you may lose your save file or it may become corrupted (Which is happening) is peak bullshit when it comes to this game. I think when the next gen release comes out (If it ever does) I'll play it more out of curiosity which is sad :(.

I finally made the decision last night that I HATE my characters voice acting. It's pretty cringe now every time he speaks; I wish there were custom options for that or using filters or something.

After all Bethesda and I have been through over the years, I just couldn't handle the same antics from CDPR on this title. They gave us Geralt, after all, that gem of a man.
Suffice to say, I was not expecting this and have already resigned.

So, I had some time last night to try and chug through the rest of the game. Get to the final mission and it crashed 4 times in the same spot. The game literally will not let me finish it... I want to cry. However, the trophy did pop (Stares blankly.)

I've been lucky that I have a relatively decent PC to game on, and haven't encountered much in the way of bugs (got one crash, and two occasions where the dialogue to continue to a quest didn't trigger - fixed in both instances by reloading the last autosave, leading to less than 5 minutes of lost progress in each case).

I totally understand why lots of people are upset. Performance on PS4/XOne seems very poor, and people are right to be angry about that, especially since reviews of the console versions were held back prior to release. But that also hasn't been indicative of my experience with the game at all.

They added salt to the wound when it was revealed that they were in fact giving more attention to the PC and next/gen upgrades instead of the last gen consoles. They pretty much went "Fuck it, we know it's shit... Take their money anyway and send it out.. We have lawyers."

Honestly though, aside from the news and release debacle, the main story isn't anything to glamor over.

Read on some gaming forum the other day that those patches worked really well but now I see that it is not all that definite, unfortunately. CDPR had so much time to make a great game. It is a pity they failed :(

Agreed. The last two nights, I have had 6 crashes and one hard crash that completely froze my PS5 for the first time. If I wasn't a trophy hunter, I would have given up lol.

I had to give up over christmas, i was some 40 hours in (after the bit where you play Keanu for a length of time), once i was me again all my special abilities stopped working (i had the slow down time thing, wouldn't activate, and changing it back to hacking didn't work) only way to "fix" it was reset to the pervious save before the keanu thing that was some half dozen hours pervious and...i just lost my patience. I must have spent a good few hours just re-loading saves to fix glitches that were stopping me complete missions.

I wanted to love this game, but this experience has really left a negative impact on me, almost to the point i don't think i'll return to it now.

I'm really pissed off with the "our QA didn't find these bugs your all reporting" FUCK.OFF. The base console versions are literary unplayable at launch, there is NO WAY they didn't find most of these issues, YOU just chose to ignore them to hit a release date and made sure reviewers weren't allowed to talk about those broken versions.

I'm fucking done with CDPR, all their higher ups do is throw others under the bus to save face, they spent years saying how they were different from other companies and then proved it was all a lie. Fuck off.

Yeah I'm so glad I didn't pre-order this game like I had planned, once I read the PS5 version wouldn't be available at launch that made the decision for me. After the launch debacle and how they've handled it, I might buy the PS5 version years from now when it's in the bargain bin. I played The Witcher 3 for the first time at the beginning of the pandemic and thought this game would be a no-brainer.
