Makes sense, but the sample is basically nothing, so you wouldn't be spoiling yourself. The first 10-15 seconds is just drone noise, hence the :p. Still, though, no reason to listen when you only have to wait less than a day!

I think the whole point is that the last 3 minutes has the impact that it does precisely because the prior 4:30ish is similar to the original with just some flourishes added to give it a grander feel. Then that ending comes in and surprises you.

^^^ Aw, damn. I had assumed (without actually looking) that the album was all different artists covering Carpenter themes.

As for the track itself, I really like it. I'm not crazy about the way the piano of the main theme is sort of muted instead of being piercing and reverb-y, but I'm sure it'll grow on me. I agree that the end is way more interesting than the rest, but I also like that the song builds up to it. Act I: TR/AR, Act II: Halloween, Act III: TR/AR + Halloween = Sex.

Been up for a few weeks but I just found "Halloween" available on Bandcamp for $1. Much rather support them than Amazon, Apple, etc. + they have excellent variety of download types & you can download unlimited times with various formats. I personally like WAV but also got MP3 for my phone/car. I almost bought it from Amazon but am glad I didn't. Such a great reimagining of "Halloween". Maybe. The website I linked is a store, not a label, so it's possible it is Sacred Bones putting it out. The catalog number listed is Sacred Bones' number. If it's legit, it'll probably appear on other sites as well.

I tried my two local indie record shops (seems we are in the same area), and both have told me that this is a Europe release only and that they wouldn't be able to get it. That said, there is a seller on ebay who has it (link below) and a shop I ordered from, Piccadilly records in Manchester, England who is taking preorders for a reasonable price with shipping. But I was basically told we won't find it in the states (at least in the New England area). I just hate pre-ordering and having that 'will I actually get it..." drama. Crossing my fingers.

I rarely do merch at shows, which means I'm always just waiting for the NIN store to post something new (I'm looking at you, Quake, Patriots Day, The Slip, and With Teeth), so when they do drop something like this, I barely even think of it as spending real money - it lives more in the gas/food/rent department. I understand a new version makes it more worthwhile for people that bought the digital version of the original mix, but I feel if they were gonna do an alternate mix they should have nixed Carpenter's original from side B and put the original TRAR mix there. Otherwise everything is about the same (until the ending), with just a couple minor alterations, like removing the dissonant (wrong?) notes at 3:45, and removing the lingering dissonant notes from 4:40-4:50. There's a rhythmic background sound that starts earlier at about 2:20; it doesn't show up in the original until about 2:42. A ghostly moaning sound might have been removed, starting at about 5:15.

And then starting at about 5:50, for the last minute of the new version, it diverges in that it doesn't add the driving bass and drums, but fades out with the existing elements instead.

I think that's about it. Any other perceived changes are probably just due to EQ or other vinyl sound quality differences. I think there's a bit of wow on the turntable that was used for playback causing a little distortion. Oh, and the L/R channels are reversed compared to the original. I doubt TRAR did that, so the person who digitized this probably got their cables backwards.

Yep, the vinyl version, IMO, has enough differences to warrant this as its own separate version (version 2.0, vinyl version, etc). The piano is what I would describe as sharper and less muted than the version released last year, some of the stringy sounding synth from the reprise of the main piano motif is missing, and the drum outro is completely gone and replaced with nary a sign of a beat at all. It's more implied by bouncing synthesizers than with any kind of percussion.

I... LIKE IT. I kind of like the idea of having two different versions of this reworking - one digital and one vinyl. Someone will need to rip the vinyl version properly for digital consumption, but this is kind of fucking cool.

Ah, I didn't realize you were in Eastern Europe. Yeah, in America (probably Western Europe as well) all three of those songs are so ingrained in the culture that I would imagine most people don't even know their origins, but EVERYONE knows the music, similarly to how everyone knows the Bridal Chorus, but practically no one has heard of Lohengrin, the play it's from. I'm sure there's similarly ubiquitous music in Belarus that I've never heard.

The audio contained on the 12” pressing of Halloween released on Sacred Bones is a previous recording of the Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross version of the song, which differs from what was released digitally last year. A lacquer of the 'previous version' was cut and then scrapped, because Trent and Atticus decided that they could improve upon the recording. They went on to create the ‘definitive’ track that is available everywhere digitally. A MISTAKE WAS MADE when pressing the currently available 12”, and the ‘previous’ version was erroneously included. To correct this unforgivable error, we are reprinting the CORRECT version and will provide it to you free of charge. We are currently working on the repress. As of now, we are expecting these to ship in early 2019 and will update you soon on the delivery timeline. As a NIN.com customer, you do not need to take any additional steps to receive your replacement copy. The replacement offer includes those who purchased from other retailers. A. Customers who purchased the record online or have their receipt from a brick and mortar store handy may email brad@sacredbonesrecords.com a copy of their receipt and Sacred Bones will ship them a replacement copy when the pressing is complete. B. If a customer purchased their copy from a brick and mortar store and doesn't have their receipt, they may show their physical LP copy to the store from which it was purchased, at which point YOU/the store can fill out a Google Form providing the customer's information. The customer can then keep their original copy and once the pressing is complete, Sacred Bones will ship the replacement copy directly to the customer's provided address on the Google Form.

I just watched the original Halloween yesterday for the first time.
Idk what kept me from watching it for so long. I love the TR and AR cover and it's what pushed me to be interested in watching the movie. The soundtrack makes that movie (just my opinion) but it was a great film.
I have an even greater appreciation for their cover now. Excited for the second copy to come in next year!

That's how every John Carpenter movie is. He has some absolute classics and some absolute duds, but ALL of his scores are great. There are a lot of bands today (called synthwave or outrun) that are a throw back to a synthpoppy 80s sound that never actually existed. The thing is, John Carpenter and Vangelis we're doing it in the 70s. That's how ahead of their time they were. The idealized version of 80s music that is being made now, in the 2010s, was being done a decade before the music currently being emulated. I feel like he doesn't get nearly enough credit for being such a visionary musician.

Also, I reached out about the colors of the repress, specifically if those who got orange will get orange again, etc. They got back and told me that if you originally got black, you're getting black, and if you originally got orange, you're getting orange.

No, the repress is the exact same as the digital version. Mispress is the unique version.

I got my replacement orange version that I purchased directly from NIN, but haven't received my standard, black version from an oversees (UK) retailer. Anyone get a replacement from anywhere other than NIN or Sacred Bones yet?

I emailed orders at sacredbonesrecords dot com with my original info and they found my retailer never specified a color for me so they just defaulted to black to replace. He offered to exchange it for me, so if anyone else finds themselves in the same position, reach out to that email addy and they'll set you straight.

Taking a closer look, it appears that I was actually sent the same original misprint. The repress is supposed to be SBR-190-RE but this just reads as SBR-190.
