hi all, just signed up to mention this, i don't see it anywhere else. i'm listening to TDS definitive when all of a sudden it hit me: it's Roxy Music!

Here's the original:

So then i sampled that first bit into my hardware yamaha SU10, pitched it up a bit, filtered it, reversed it, and slammed it into a logic.

Here's the sample:

I didn't do the full edit and loop, but you get the idea.

so yah, there ya go

That sounds about right!

I also sampled the sound out of Closer, reversed it and slowed it down some time ago, in hopes someone would recognize it.

Hope you don't get Trent sued ;) Remember when Bart exposed Krusty to the IRS?

So @vav (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=6141) how did you come about this? I'm guessing you heard a note or two or whatever and maybe thought it sounded similar?...

Simple, i was listening to Roxy Music the other day at work, just background stuff. It musta stuck, cuz today i pulled out the TDS definitive edition to give it a listen and put it on super loud. When Closer came on i heard the the backwards sample...i must have heard that thing a thousand times, and it just kinda clicked in my head. That fuzzy synth/guitar timbre matched so i kinda went "Holy shit" and jumped up and stopped the record, pulled up youtube, recorded the bit into the sampler, reversed it, and well, bob's yer uncle.

Good find! I'm a huge Roxy Fan and I never would have noticed that. Some other Roxy Music connections...on the same album is a track called "The Space Between" (a title Trent borrowed for HTDA) and of course, Bryan Ferry's "Is You Love Strong Enough" (originally from the movie "Legend")

And not NIN related, but Ministry did a version of Roxy Music's "Same Old Scene" (which is quite good)

Trent and Flood were geniuses.

Speaking of this sample, I was wondering why it plays in the intro to the live version but not during the album version. I like that it builds up an atmosphere to the track when it starts and it seems to sorely lack that in the album version.
