At first i was expecting this to just be one of those novelty retro things but it seems like Atari is actually going to try and compete with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo!

Not many details as of yet but damn i am curious!

this seems like a terrible idea, but hey, give it your best shot guys.

That ship sailed years and years and years ago. The Jaguar was the thing they tried and it failed.

You never know, i mean if they nail down a good price, good specs and a killer app. Good marketing and worth of mouth, there's potential at least.

I might be wrong... but I'm guessing it'll be the same situation as before - it'll burn out and there will be one exclusive "killer app" on it that people will be pissed they never got to play because the 400 dollar entry fee wasn't worth it.

They'll need some kind of original content, and none of their classic IPs carry any weight anymore. Are we going to try to get excited about a reboot of Asteroids or Tempest or Centipede, or even something more recent like Alone in the Dark? There's not much there http://news.calyptus.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Atari-IPs-Sept15.pdf

Maybe they've got some title that is just going to blow people's minds that they're ready to unveil (but chose to wait until after E3 to offer such an empty, content-free teaser?)

Maybe they've got what they think is their own Halo or Uncharted. Maybe they've thrown every last dime they had into securing the exclusive rights to some incredible and highly anticipated thing as some crazy gamble. I could see Atari re-entering the software market and establishing a name once again, and THEN trying this.

But yeah, who knows... maybe it's incredibly cheap hardware break-out for smart TVs, with the intention of really getting rid of the "console" concept entirely.

Maybe it's all just a clever viral ad campaign for the new Blade Runner movie?

The latest on that Atari console reveals price

http://www.kotaku.co.uk/2017/09/26/ataris-upcoming-console-could-cost-as-much-as-a-ps4-or-switch

Rumors now saying it'll be a steam box of sorts (capable of playing Linux supported steam games) and come loaded with a bunch of Atari "classics" with a price, around £/$200-300, to match it against the current gens...
