Attention electronic music lovers... If you're into a mix of bass driven, dub, glitchy, electro, industrial music from an aspiring underground producer from New York, I have made all of my work available for your listening pleasure as free downloads. I self-released my first official album "Lines & Shapes" in 2009, which was a warehouse rave inspired, mix of four on the floor and breaks aimed at the dancefloors. At the end of 2011 I released its follow up "Children Of The Bomb," a darker, bassier, and more experimental album aimed at rumbling subwoofers and big dirty beats. September 23rd, 2015 was the release of "Disrupt Your Scene," a collection of tracks showcasing Neorev working with guest vocalists and musicians.

Long Island’s Neorev finally returns to the physical format after six years with bona fide “best of” that collects collaborative highlights from his now out of print Bandcamp EPs with some stunning new material, proving, once and for all, that he is the best electronic artist you’ve never heard of.

Disrupt the Scene carefully celebrates the many modes of electronic dance music without sacrificing artistic integrity in the process. Most of the tracks center on hip-hop, beginning with the opening onslaught of “Sway” featuring rapper Marcuss, who also appears on “So Twisted.” Later, Centri brings a Kool Keith weirdness to “Prune Juice” and “Monetary Policy,” while Villain completely dominates the hardcore drum & bass of “Rough, Rugged, N’ Raw” and the dubstep attack of “Start the Revolution.” Kid Versus Chemical even drops jaws on the Wu-Tang-inspired “Smiles and Handshakes.” On the other side of the spectrum, It Was July adds an upbeat pop sensibility to “No Control” and “Revolution,” but shows range in darker tracks, like “Terrible Sky” and “The Switch,” and Noise Generator incorporate their industrial touch in “Shock Wave.” It’s not just dance music, it’s real music borne from electronics, but raised on a rock sensibility that stays away from the average 4/4 thumping you hear in the club.

At this point, Neorev should be Diplo, but he’s not, and maybe that’s a good thing. He’s still an artist who’s not afraid to take chances, beholden to no one but himself, and that’s perfect.

This review from March that I just stumbled upon for my debut album "Lines & Shapes" makes me blush...

"Long Island’s Neorev, aka Michael Matteo, embodies the epitome of what electronic dance music should be, i.e., music first and foremost, not just endless, insidious thumping. The fact is, the tracks on Lines & Shapes are actual songs with structure and changes, not just squibbles and squeaks over a 4/4 bass drum.

Lines & Shapes opens with “Oh No!”, an aggressive, almost industrial track recalling Lords of Acid or perhaps even My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult. Things change on “Force,” an Arabesque drum & bass trope. From here the tracks continue to demand attention while never stooping to the typical boring phrases and clichés expectant of electronic dance music. Several tracks, “The Stars Above Us,” “No Turning Back” and “Another Cloudy Day” even take on a particularly Krautrockian tone, eschewing the beat in favor of form and feeling, like Kluster or something.

In a style as bland as modern dance music, it’s quite refreshing to hear a collection of songs with some thought behind them. EDM doesn’t need to be boring, it just tends to be that way. We need more Neorevs to teach us otherwise."

Sweet! It's going to be a combination of graphic novel panels and then paragraphs of text similar to what Hyperbole and a Half (http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/) does.

I'm still in the brainstorming phase of the plan but your music seems to fit in and facilitate the twisted, dark, blasted context I have in mind. One character I have so far is this grumpy fellow with a mutant growth coming out of the top of his head that looks like a little monster with arms that influences his "siamese twin" to do things...like murder people with a katana sword. There will also be two aliens: one good and one pure evil. I'm still working on the cast, but there may also be this dude that lives in a cabin in the woods that is also seriously messed up who jacks off to pictures of female deer in hunting magazines and does all manner of sick shit in his spare time.

Here's a review of my album CHILDREN OF THE BOMB on The Big Takeover...

After a year and a half or so, Neorev, aka Long Island’s Michael Matteo, has returned with a powerhouse sophomore effort designed to give a swift kick to the genitals of electronic dance music.

Where Neorev’s first album, Lines & Shapes, was an engaging, though upbeat, effort aimed at the dance floor, Children of the Bomb is a much darker affair that focuses on the sinister sonics of dubstep. Here, Matteo excels; his fuzzy, wobbling bass attacks with an ominous vengeance that leaves the listener feeling a bit uneasy. This isn’t your pop radio dubstep, this is the sound of empty city streets at night, where rats run rampant and the silhouettes in the shadows are either muggers out to get you or twisted figments of your imagination. These are the dirty, grimy, sleazy sounds of cyberpunk incarnate.

Children of the Bomb is a bona fide electronic classic composed with integrity and produced without pretension. It’s a lead-fisted punch in the face to bland electronica everywhere. Buy this album and kick some ass.

Don't worry, it's always ends up the last week of me running around like a chicken without a head pulling my hair out

I like this because I love hearing people reinterpret my tracks and it also gives me a deadline to stop being a lazy bastard and finish up some new tracks
It helps promote the original release, gives me a chance to show off some new tracks, and I get to find new and cool bedroom producers like myself and help promote them as well... win-win for everyone :)

Plus, if I didn't give myself a deadline, most of works in progress would probably stay as works in progress
So this gives me a little kick in the rear to get my shit together :)

Aiming for June 30th to be the "release date" for online download, so figure the deadline is June 25th
But I'll be doing a 3rd EP as well... closer to September.
All remixers will be properly credited along with the correct tags and url links within the MP3 file
I also like to credit by a person's actual name along with their artist name...
For ex: "Blah Blah Blah ("Artist Name Here" Remix) and then in comments i'll put... Additional production and remix by "Real Person's Name" - www."yoursite".com

An amazing review of my last EP on The Big Takeover...

"Once again, Neorev returns with music so astonishingly excellent that one truly has to wonder why Michael Matteo isn’t one of the top electronic producers of the moment.

Like the “Brooklyn Stomp” EP, this is an album’s worth of remixes, reworkings and exclusive originals, though where “Brooklyn Stomp” was in the present moment with Children of the Bomb, “Let’s Get Down” points the way of the future for the electronic artist.

The opening three tracks are reworkings of Neorev tunes by Matteo himself. Here, the plodding industrial dubstep of the title track becomes a booming mid-paced dance track, while “Brooklyn Stomp” transforms into raging drum & bass. Even “Slaughterhouse,” from Neorev’s debut Lines & Shapes, breathes new life as sinister, shadow-laden dubstep.

The following three exclusive new tracks not only indicate Neorev’s direction, but are absolutely some of his best tracks to date. Where “Proper Funkage” recalls the psychotic pounding of Superstar DJ Keoki, “Boom!” takes orgasmic electronics to a whole new level, creating something between Kraftwerk and Leftfield. “Solstice” calms things down a bit with a mellow beat and a pulsing drone, like Stereolab doing music for an old Sega Genesis game, perhaps a Phantasy Star installment.

A series of remixes by various artists follows, each taking a unique approach to Neorev’s singular vision while retaining the spirit of the original track. The album version of “Let’s Get Down” from Children of the Bomb closes the door, reminding us where this all originated.

So much more than a mere vehicle to promote a single, this EP deserves the attention and respect of a full-length release. Longtime fans will revel in the electronic ecstasy of Matteo’s futuristic songcraft, though, if you’re new to the Neorev dimension, this is an excellent place to begin your journey. "Long Island’s Neorev, aka Michael Matteo, embodies the epitome of what electronic dance music should be, i.e., music first and foremost, not just endless, insidious thumping. The fact is, the tracks on Lines & Shapes are actual songs with structure and changes, not just squibbles and squeaks over a 4/4 bass drum.

Lines & Shapes opens with “Oh No!”, an aggressive, almost industrial track recalling Lords of Acid or perhaps even My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult. Things change on “Force,” an Arabesque drum & bass trope. From here the tracks continue to demand attention while never stooping to the typical boring phrases and clichés expectant of electronic dance music. Several tracks, “The Stars Above Us,” “No Turning Back” and “Another Cloudy Day” even take on a particularly Krautrockian tone, eschewing the beat in favor of form and feeling, like Kluster or something.

In a style as bland as modern dance music, it’s quite refreshing to hear a collection of songs with some thought behind them. EDM doesn’t need to be boring, it just tends to be that way. We need more Neorevs to teach us otherwise."

The first question that comes to mind when listening to a new Neorev release is, “How in the hell does Michael Matteo keep getting better?” With his “Wildfire” EP, he not only brings us some stellar originals, but also provides enough worthy remixes and collaborations to present an album’s worth of his best material to date.

The opening title track is a perfectly wicked dubstep tune inspired by the explosives on Game of Thrones. “Don’t Let ‘Em Get You Down,” an infectious bit of neo-disco follows, incorporating elements of Kraftwerk and dance industrial to the regiment. On “No Control,” Matteo truly steps outside the framework of electronic dance music to make a masterful electro-punk hybrid that is possibly his best track to date. “Throttle” recalls Superstar DJ Keoki, while “Better” comes across as the relaxing intro or middle to a jungle track without the drum and bass madness, which, by the way, is in full effect on the phenomenal remix of “Hard Style” by Noise Generator. “Prune Juice,” “Knot Rot” and “Ruff, Rugged, ‘N Raw,” collaborations with various rappers, represent hip-hop, and the closing “Live at the Electro-Music Festival” presents a powerful near-35-minute live set that proves that Matteo can be as exciting outside of the studio as he is in it.

It’s rare to find an artist that evolves so beautifully as Neorev has over the past few years. At this point, he should be producing top-ten hits for A-list pop-stars, but the music industry, as usual, is looking backward, not forward. Neorev is the future, and I like where it’s headed.

A glowing review of the NO CONTROL EP by Chuck Foster from The Big Takeover...

Neorev’s Michael Matteo is one tireless individual. Now on the fourth EP generated from his Children of the Bomb franchise, Matteo delivers yet another superb collection of remixes, reboots and brand new tracks guaranteed to drive all cyber knights out of their coffins and into the glowing neon sprawl.

The title track, which first appeared on Neorev’s “Wildfire” EP, finds new life here as a vocal track featuring lyrics written and performed by Susan Morris, aka It Was July, giving the track an Icona Pop vibe. Some exclusive originals follow: the Superstar DJ Keoki-esque ride of “Riptide,” the insistent pulse’n‘thump rave-up of “Vapor Trail,” “Demon Inside”‘s old school jungle/drum’n‘bass whirlwind and the hip-hop/dubstep attack of “Monetary Policy,” which features some heady rapping from Centri. A slew of remixes of the vocal version of “No Control” appear (the frantic industrial drum’n‘bass mix by Noise Generator stands out), as well as a slightly longer version of the original instrumental. Two additional remixes of Neorev favorites “Basshead” and “Proper Funkage” appear to round out the release.

When it comes to electronic dance music, Neorev is really at the top of his game, begging the question, why is he not the hottest producer since Diplo assigned with the task of crafting Top 40 hits to be used in mega-corporate commercials? Who cares? His music stands on its own and is miles ahead of the pop drivel pumped on the radio these days, so jack-in to Neorev’s virtual reality where we all celebrate being children of the bomb.

So how about some frigging news...
I know it's been quiet in the world of NEOREV with my recent move to a new place taking much of my focus away for music this last month or so. But I was sporadically working on new things here and there as well as finishing up projects that I was in the middle of before the move.

So here we go...

Got a couple of tracks that I've been working on with Susan Wintruba a.k.a. IT WAS JULY... one for my upcoming release and one for her upcoming release. You may remember Susan with her amazing vocal contribution on my last release, the "No Control EP."

Well, Susan returns in full gear on another blistering electronic pop-rock track called "Rollercoaster."

I remember us chatting online and asking each other, "How the hell do we top No Control?" We wanted to continue that fun and edgy vibe without regurgitating the same crap. And we feel that we definitely took it up another notch. What makes this track a step forward rather than standing in the same place is that... well, it's just so damn fun and bouncy. :)

We got a couple of things brewing that will reveal themselves over time... but let's dive into Susan's solo project IT WAS JULY's world for a bit...

She recently released the lead single "Mean" to promote her forthcoming album "Erratic." The single features remixes by Brainkiller/Music Playground's own AQUILA and new to our little gang of producers EQAVOX.

Since then we've been working on a bunch of tunes that we plan to spread across each other's releases. And while some tracks will show up here and there on our individual solo projects, behind the scenes we are cooking up a joint project that we like to call BLACK LUNG. CENTRI has a forthcoming solo album featuring some of our collabs as well as my own forthcoming release. After that, we plan to focus our energies on BLACK LUNG and kick off with a proper EP.

Right away, “Sway” opens with a hard-hitting, heavy beat augmented by a myriad of sounds and Marcuss from Dope Tendencies rapping about the bass. Macuss continues on “So Twisted,” a skulking, Southern-style celebration of marijuana. So July 7th will be the 5th anniversary of my first official album LINES & SHAPES and for the next month I plan on doing some special things to help celebrate the occasion. LINES & SHAPES was my homage to the early 90's warehouse rave and hardcore breaks movement that I fell in love with when I was younger. Gonna have a little contest/giveaway at the end of the month where fans will have a chance to win some cool little gifts and some rare exclusive NR goodies. Something to make this occasion fun and give supporters the chance to own a piece of NR history to show my appreciation.

To help celebrate the upcoming 5th anniversary, I will be posting rare recordings from back in the day of my performances on Electro-Music.com's online radio station. Long Island’s Neorev finally returns to the physical format after six years with bona fide “best of” that collects collaborative highlights from his now out of print Bandcamp EPs with some stunning new material, proving, once and for all, that he is the best electronic artist you’ve never heard of.

Disrupt the Scene carefully celebrates the many modes of electronic dance music without sacrificing artistic integrity in the process. Most of the tracks center on hip-hop, beginning with the opening onslaught of “Sway” featuring rapper Marcuss, who also appears on “So Twisted.” Later, Centri brings a Kool Keith weirdness to “Prune Juice” and “Monetary Policy,” while Villain completely dominates the hardcore drum & bass of “Rough, Rugged, N’ Raw” and the dubstep attack of “Start the Revolution.” Kid Versus Chemical even drops jaws on the Wu-Tang-inspired “Smiles and Handshakes.” On the other side of the spectrum, It Was July adds an upbeat pop sensibility to “No Control” and “Revolution,” but shows range in darker tracks, like “Terrible Sky” and “The Switch,” and Noise Generator incorporate their industrial touch in “Shock Wave.” It’s not just dance music, it’s real music borne from electronics, but raised on a rock sensibility that stays away from the average 4/4 thumping you hear in the club.

"Across These Lands Unknown" is a special release that I have been working on for the last couple of years on the side. I consider this to be more of a concept album, a different mood and feel compared to the usual style aimed at dancefloors and subwoofers. You can say it's like a soundtrack. My own cinematic score to an imaginary movie inside my own head. It all began with the cover artwork, which I used as the main inspiration for its songs. I wanted to do something special for fans and start of the new year with something new and different.

First off, many thanks for taking the time to listen to Resonance. Truly appreciate it.

I wouldn't say it represents my overall sound, but I do think that you may enjoy Across These Lands Unknown EP since "Resonance" was a leftover from this era that I finished later on. For this release, I wanted to go down a more experimental path unlike my previous works, which are more on the aggressive side. There are some tracks across albums that do touch on this experimental style as I like to incorporate many styles and influences. Across These Lands Unknown may be more your thing.

I've been digging through my archives and found a few of my online radio broadcast performances for Electro-Music.com

For the first time on YouTube, you can relisten to my set from their 2010 New Year's Eve broadcast. My set began at 11:30PM and you can hear the New Year celebrations in the middle of my set. This performance was unique as I played quite a bit of unreleased material. This was between 2009's Lines & Shapes and 2011's Children Of The Bomb. At the time, I had started working on the follow up to Lines & Shapes, but ended up scrapping an album's worth of material and starting over. This show gives you a little taste of that scrapped album.

I had a little following amongst Prodigy fans thanks to having my music on some fan compilation albums created by fan forum communities. I even got radio play in Italy on Radio 101 thanks to my appearance on the Brainkiller Presents Music From The Jilted Generation compilation series in 2003. I dug up the old raw demos and shared them on YouTube. I sadly lost all the project files and sounds in a hard drive crash. Three years of work went poof. Some of my old tracks have popped up on various YouTube channels. So figured it's time to say "What the hell" and share it with the world. At the time, I was a fresh faced, naive teenager, who was still a noob at music production and trying to find my sound. Just some fun rave music and heavy breaks inspired by the 90s warehouse rave scene.

Folks were asking for a download release, so I'll be sharing the album on my Bandcamp this Friday, February 5th.

On Friday, Bandcamp will be waiving their revenue share, meaning artists keep 100% of any sales made that day. This happens only on the first Friday of the month and is meant to help support artists during the pandemic. I've been targeted on Facebook for my support of Black Lives Matter and for not being a fan of Trump. This last month, I've been getting hit over and over with the same community standards violations for the same post where I shared the BLM fist logo. Facebook claims it represents dangerous and violent individuals, calling them a hate group and terrorist organization. Even after I challenged their decision and won, with Facebook saying it does meet community standards, I just get hit with the same violation for the same post again. They did this repeatedly to my www.facebook.com/ThisIsHexagram (http://www.facebook.com/ThisIsHexagram) page until it was unpublished, then came after my www.facebook.com/neorev (http://www.facebook.com/neorev) page, and now targeting my personal profile. I had a pic of a homeless Trump on my wall and Facebook called it bullying and harassment. It seems the goal is to have me banned. I can't even post on any of my pages, even ones that had absolutely zero violations. My Neorev page quality says no violations or restrictions, yet I am being restricted. You challenge their decision and win, you are still punished. I've sent numerous reports to Facebook and tried reaching out to them on their other social media accounts. It's been nearly 3 weeks with no response. So I've begun setting up the Neorev Discord and my Bandcamp community at http://www.neorev.bandcamp.com/community just in case my Facebook account is banned. Honestly, it is probably time to just leave Facebook. Fuck censorship. And it's funny how all violations seem to indicate one particular political leaning... Trump lovers who hate Black Lives Matter. So it's either some person or persons hiding and abusing Facebook's reporting feature to have my pages and account removed... or Facebook wants to be the new Parler.

Well, I had to make a new official NR page on Facebook thanks to them unpublishing my page for showing support for Black Lives Matter and sharing their logo.
