View Full Version : Of all songs that HAVE been played live...
...which one song do you still want to see, that you haven't? I'm talking a realistic chance; nothing that hasn't been played before. And no lists, please. Just one song.
For me it's "Please". It's such a great track and I don't get why it has been played live so scarcely. I'd love to see that live one day.

I'm pretty sure it was the Still version he played here in Australia in 2009 wasn't it?

They played the album version in 2009. The Still version was on the 2007 tour. I got it at one show, but it was ruined by this girl behind me who wouldn't shut the hell up.

Yes, I know no plans were made, but I'm quite sure they recorded it, and the fans (at least myself) would be more than happy to have/buy it.

Unless they recorded it discreetly, I don't see how they could. The venue wouldn't allow them to record the show. I would love nothing more than to receive another nice soundboard gift from an anonymous NIN crew member, but when it comes to that show specifically, I don't think it's going to happen.

you can't just decide to record a show, you gotta pay some mighty high dues to the venue

I didn't know that! Just recording their own show costs money? That's ridiculous.
As I just read that Steven Wilson records every single show at 24/96 full resolution multitrack audio, just to 'take the red light fever away', I never thought that was the case.

The venue has rights as a recording site, otherwise bands could just use them as a studio that pays you to be there

Unfortunately, through the 8 shows I've seen and 79 unique songs, I've never had the chance to catch The Becoming.
That's my realistic choice.
But HiS is my true first choice.

Don't feel bad. When he brought The Becoming back in '09, he stripped all the balls from the song. That acoustic guitar and lack of bass behind everything ruins the song. I hope he keeps it in mothballs unless he's going to match the album version more. And if that requires more backing tapes or whatever, then so what. I HATE the version he's played since '09.

They are probably the two songs I could do without and seen too much.
Saw NIN 5 times and somehow managed to not see terrible lie at any shows. So yeah, terrible lie, please! :)
Other than that happiness in slavery would be rad as hell but is very unlikely.

Into the Void.
My St. Louis show in 2013 was robbed of that sadly as I think it was a staple early on into the Tension tour. Worst part was that I had to sit through Echoplex for the third fucking time for three different tours in a row, 2008-2009-2013...

I saw NIN TWICE on TDS and no The Becoming.
And to make it even worse, he teased the crowd by singing "and god damn this noise inside my head" just randomly into the microphone at one point and then started playing something else.

I'd have to say Ruiner, simply for how difficult it is to find a good recording of it (though what I have heard is supremely intense). One of my favorite moments on any of the albums.

On that tour it was pretty standard for him to say that line (for no particular reason) at the end of "Dead Souls".

i knew it had something to do with dead souls. i thought he did it before dead souls.
But that was fucking 22 years ago, and, for instance, i was SURE both of those shows were closed with hurt until someone here told me i was wrong ;)

I like this version.
Though I agree it is certainly missing alot of aspects from the studio and prior live versions, there's something powerful about this version. It's stripped down to just the raw energy of the song, the relentless driving rhythm carrying the song with just drums and bass. The acoustic guitar doesnt add anything, but its necessary for the breakdown.

I've been to 5 shows and I still haven't caught The Day The World Went Away. Really hoping to hear it live one day.
"In This Twilight". "Meet Your Master" is a close second. (interesting to me that they're both cuts from YZ...)
(I saw WITT live. I feel compelled to point that out.)

I love that live... I've seen it in the AATCHB and album configurations, I prefer the former but the latter was intense.
