Mixed but generally positive reviews considering the trolls on youtube. Let me know what you think. I did this in around 2002-2003 using MODplug, playing guitar and singing... found some twisted bad tape to mp3 filters... that was all she wrote. Authorized by Trent too. :D

For your listening enjoyment...the worst cover of Pilgrimage ever:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RykjEw6JuYk

My friends and I were driving around listening to The Fragile one night, and when Pilgrimage came on we started doing this. After it was over, we kept it up and decided to record it. Some asshole pulled out in front of us during it, which is why my one friend (the guy who is the most audible) screams "FUCK YOU IN THE CAR, YOU MOTHERFUCKER!".

You need to make it longer or make more of them.

EDIT: I listened to your mix / mashup all night long, on repeat, while studying for an exam. I even wrote my paper faster and better due to the maintained rhythm of this "song". Sounds weird, I know, but that's how I study the best. Thank you.

That LITS cover is GREAT. LITS has been my favorite "sad song" ever since it came out. It almost seems like the female vocal gives it a brand new perspective, more compassionate.

Hey y'all. I'm back, if anyone remembers the 10 or so posts I did before the original forum crashed, ha. Anyway, I wanted to throw this out to the wolves to see a) if we did a good job and b) get critiques from REAL NIN fans on how to improve it at all. My industrial band UCNX (DSBP Records, check us out! Or not, whatever.) is putting out a remixes & covers collection, and it's starting off with our version of "Now I'm Nothing/Terrible Lie". I always wanted to hear a studio recording of N.I.N., so I made one, and we decided to cover TL the way it's played live (esp. with the viciousness of the Lolapalooza '91 tour), and add a lot more guitar to it to modernize it a bit. Also sampled some stuff from the 'Purest Feeling' demo to spice it up:

https://soundcloud.com/#dogulas/ucnx-now-im-nothing-terrible

Going to take this down in a little bit, so please, if you have an opinion share it...even if you think it blows. Hopefully we did a good job, covering NIN is pretty daunting and something I didn't think I would ever want to do.

I don't like the beginning, I think the middle part is OK and kudos for the ending, because not only it sounds good, but you just made me realize that the tune you were playing towards the end is actually in the original one as well. Fucking Fragile, always surprising me.

Anyhow, I'm not a big fan of covers, whether amateur or not. Like there's Device's Wish, which is Wish sung by a different singer. Who cares? On the other hand, the Johnny Cash version of Hurt or the acoustic version of Terrible Lie are fine. Also, I don't like when someone censors a cover, ie. the SICNH cover. Hurt is an exception because it is so much different, that it makes up for it.

This is awesome though, these are the covers I dig - and some piano-only covers. The best thing about this cover is the way she's into it. It just describes Closer to me. Hearing NIN songs sang by women are also a plus. since it just gives a whole new vibe to it.

Hey folks!

I've been doing my own NIN covers for quite some time now and I think I'm at a point where I want to share some of them with you guys.

Just to be clear, I'm pretty new to creating music and music theory in general, so my stuff is far from perfect. I've been playing the piano for 4 years now and I've been covering NIN songs for roughly a year. Needless to say, as I'm completely on my own, I'm still trying to learn basic level stuff.

Anyways, I think it's just nice when people listen to it. As of now, I've been doing these covers just for myself. And hey, if you got any suggestions or maybe even like some of my versions of our favorite NIN songs, that would be even better.

All songs were created entirely in Cubase 7 Elements with various plug-ins and VSTs. They all kinda want to sound like the originals or their live counterparts, so please don't expect anything inventive. Most of the time I just want to come as close as possible to the NIN sound (exceptions prove the rule).

Oh, and as my vocals are a big "nope", all songs are instrumentals (or the vocals are played as an instrument, too).

La Mer (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/la-mer-nine-inch-nails-cover)
Inspired by live version from 2006 and live version from AATCHB.

The Fragile (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/the-fragile-nine-inch-nails-cover)
Inspired by live version from 2009.

Closer (Instrumental) (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/closer-instrumental-nine-inch-nails-cover)
This one's pretty cool. I put a lot of work into that, and it turned out pretty close to the original.

8 Bits of the End (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/8-bits-of-the-end-nine-inch-nails-cover)
The name says it: The Beginning of the End - 8 bit style.

13 Ghosts II (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/13-ghosts-ii-nine-inch-nails-cover)
That one pretty much sounds like the original, which is kinda cool I think.

12 Ghosts II (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/12-ghosts-ii-nine-inch-nails-cover)
Same here.

Help Me I Am In Hell (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/help-me-i-am-in-hell-nine-inch-nails-cover)
Inspired by live version from BYIT.

01 Ghosts I (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/01-ghosts-i-nine-inch-nails-cover)
Not perfect, but okay.

28 Ghosts IV (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/28-ghosts-iv-nine-inch-nails-cover)
This one's missing a few synths, but I like it nevertheless. Banjo is replaced by a piano.

Gone, Still (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/gone-still-nine-inch-nails)
This is the first cover I ever did, not much to add.

Piggy (Still Version) (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/piggy-still-nine-inch-nails-cover)
Vocals are played on piano and there are no drums. Not entirely happy with that.

Leaving Hope (Piano Cover) (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/leaving-hope-nine-inch-nails-cover)
Played live on MIDI stage piano and later added a few effects (mostly reverb).

The Frail (Piano Cover) (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/the-frail-nine-inch-nails-cover)
Played live on MIDI piano.

Just for the heck of it:
Here's a bit of Various Methods of Escape (https://soundcloud.com/nicosanft/various-methods-of-escape-nine-inch-nails-cover) - "Cortini style", as I like to call it.

Dub FX is another artist that I'm a huge fan of. He went through Pledge music to raise money for his new album, along with a charity. I decided to join in a request a cover song of my choice! This is definitely a stray from the original, but if you're a fan of Dub FX, you'll know that it's his own personal style, so this is not a direct note for note cover.

I've seen him live a few times now, he always puts on a fun and awesome show. I picked this one, because I wanted to see how he'd approach the numerous amount of layers that are in it! particularly at the end. Be he took it a totally different route than I expected, which still turned out pretty damn good.

That being said, I would have picked a different song if I had caught this cover prior to doing that pledge:

I sincerely don't know what this is covering, so I simply titled it "NIN cover"
It has bits and pieces here and there from several songs, ant it was intended only to be a test track for my new recording method.
If any of you wants to critique me, it would be very helpful. I'm trying to get started into this writing and playing business, and as a drummer... I have no idea of what I'm even doing with the guitar.

I'm sure I've heard this cover of Copy Of A by Diane Birch, but I completely forgot about it after what seemed to be a couple of months. I randomly found it again, and was instantly reminded of it, and it really seemed to be a lot better than I remembered it as I would've also posted it in this thread a lot sooner. Anyway, I'm sure it was brought up before, but I still thought that it definitely deserved a place in this thread. (As I checked to see if it was already posted in the previous 4 pages, but didn't come across it.)

I also found it to be very uplifting and moving as it cheered me up a bit too. I also like how covers like these also help me appreciate the original versions even more, as it's a pleasure to see what else can be done another musician's rendition, and as it also helps me see even more good in the original version.

However, I'm sure a big part of that is due to the fact that Copy Of A is one of my most favorite songs from Hesitation Marks.

I've also thought about that as well before, but this thread seems to have been the go-to thread for NIN covers in general now. Perhaps it would be better off renamed "Nine Inch Nails Covers" this time around. And with this being an Internet forum nonetheless, it has also occurred to me since this thread came to be, especially with YouTube being a thing and all.

Either way, I've certainly been enjoying sharing my finds as well as other people's finds/creations here as well. :)

And to keep it going, I was in the mood to hear some covers of Every Day Is Exactly The Same and came across these.

This might be of interest to some here, especially if you're into ambient and the like. Personal remixes of those little solo piano pieces from the 1999 Fragility v1.0 Europe special broadcast on MTV way back.

An add on to that last post, I remixed that promotional performance of "Gone, Still" Trent and Jerome did back in '02. If you're interested, please feel free to give it a listen and download:

On a cover kick apparently. I know I've seen this one before, could have sworn I saw in on here. But fantastic cover of The Becoming, video is pretty stellar too.

Yeah i only used 4 things. My mandolin, steel string acc, my electric guitar and a cheap keyboard. I think i overdubbed the stringed instruments like 5 times

Hey guys. I recently did 2 quick covers of NTAE and AV (even redid the album-art).
Mainly done by recording myself playing along and then rearranging it into a full cover. So it's nowhere near studio-quality. But I had fun making them so I figured I'd post them here.

An incredibly accurate Guitar Pro tab for Less Than.

For those who don't own Guitar Pro (like me), I recommend the freeware and cross-platform alternative TuxGuitar (https://sourceforge.net/projects/tuxguitar/).

Banged and Blown Through cover that me and a buddy from Philly did a few years ago, not exactly NIN but it’s definitely related. Also, we just used the vocal track because neither of us sing, but instruments are all us!

I posted this a few years back but I deleted my old youtube channel. Just recently I came across the file again and decided to reupload.

Back around 2011 I decided to try a cover, In the end I went with "Right Where It Belongs".

Armed with a few free VST instruments and a Guitar Hero: World Tour USB mic, I decided to give it a try.

I do not know what to think about this
I really like the arrangements, the music sounds good, but the lyrics makes me feel this cover can't sound good, They dont fix with the new arrangement
I wasn't so sure at first, so I gave it multiple chances and it really grew on me. I definitely agree with you on it sounding good.

For me, it actually works if I think of it in a sort of cynical, passive-aggressive, sarcastic mindset and approach. (Which is what I've also visualized/imagined in certain NIN songs such as Head Like A Hole and Wish.)

I imagined it in like a "So, my life's been shot to Hell. How about you?" or "Well, it's not like it can't get any worse now can it? And remember, it could always be worse." type of way.

Hey man! I feel it!
I do that sort of thing, too: doing solo acoustic covers of songs, just for fun. That totally sounds like something I would do.

Anyway, I REALLY like it. You got originals?

Trying to join the solo acoustic cover party, but I'm having trouble uploading my stuff. This cover of Lights in the Sky seems to have turned out REALLY quiet, and I'm pretty sure i didn't record it that way? I mean, LITS is quiet in general, but not this quiet.

Oh well. I haven't done audio editing in a while and I'm pretty rusty. I'll work at it some more.

Hi all

I finished my cover of The Good Soldier, the other day.
All music performed/programmed by myself; original album vocals taken from the Year Zero multitracks.

https://youtu.be/_dCRogx1ibE

The idea behind making this cover was to make it a fun and quick project. The goal was to FINISH it, rather than making it perfect.
I picked this song because A) I always liked it and B) it didn’t seem that technically difficult to tackle. In the end, it did take me quite a bit longer to get it done.

I took the multitracks as a starting point for my cover. It was interesting to dissect all the layers and sounds that went into the song. Some of the things were a little more difficult to replicate, or even to find out how to play them.
I actually tried to do the vocals myself, too. However, I had never tried singing before and, well ... That experiment failed miserably. So, I decided to leave Trent‘s vocals in there.

Anyway, hope you like the cover.

Not a cover but this is a good enough place to put it as any.

I have really been enjoying fucking around with the random NIN stems on that one site. Especially the PHM songs. TDS and TF get all the love in the thing for their meticulous layers of sound. I never realized how few elements are in some of these PHM tunes and how far TR and his producers were able to stretch them.

I've been messing around with them to pass the time. Anyways, here's Wonderwall.

Terrible Lie Remix for fun.
Again, using mostly only the sounds from the stems, with the exception of subtle parts from the live version.
I've always liked how the PHM era remixes were very close to what ended up on the album, and I tried to follow that tradition.
