Very sorry if a thread already exists... but I don't see one... amazing you have 2 dubstep threads and no UK urban whatever thread

anyway thread for UK urban/dnb/grimewhatever

grime is like UK hip hop with a big ragga/dancehall influence

obviously you know what jungle and drum n bass are

But if you're talking uk urban music how can you leave out the most important influence?

According to the BBC Ed Sheeran is where it's at!

(sorry I couldn't resist)

^^^ that list is an idiotic joke, but...I hate the term Urban Music the BBC has been plugging. Such a broad area. What does the term urban music mean?
I think its a label to more or less describe Black British music. Again there has been 50 years of black british music is hard to know where to begin!
You could be brining in a multitude of different genres, Bristol Trip Hop, the London pop reggae scene from the 80s, Soul, Rave, Acid House, Dubstep, ,Brit hip hop, etc so many.
To racially segregate it seems weird. And i dont know what the situation is now, but it seems odd to say the radio shafts Black British musicians , at the turn of the millenium the radio was playing a UK Garage 2 Step track every 5 minutes. The charts were dominated by black british artists like So Solid Crew, Dj Pied Piper etc. I think its more an issue of whats commercially viable rather than a race thing.
A specifically Black British music invention which was the result of the influx of Jamacian immigrants, a clash of British and Jamacian culture..... Jungle music, is simply some of the greatest music ever created. Drum n Bass and Dubstep both spawned from that.
I think Goldie is one of the greatest musicians ever. His label Metalheadz is still going strong. Its really intense, futuristic pounding music.

Big Bug fan here. Last year's Angels & Devils is amazing. So is London Zoo, of course. Here's a b-side from that era:

one of my favourites... absolutely love bug & flowdan's collabs, saw them live supporting fuck buttons and it was superb

Bug's recent stuff with Earth is pretty decent too

Speaking of London Zoo, I cannot believe this didn't make the album
