Okay, i know this is kind of on the tmz side, and we're supposed to be too hip to care, but i LIKE these kinds of stories!
So whether you stalked the person or ran into them randomly, please do share!

I've got a few.
Here's a good one.
I don't know if he still does this, but Tricky used to spend A LOT of time mingling with the audience before his shows.
I was at a tricky show in dallas...must have been like 17, right?
So i'm just chilling in the bar waiting for the opening act to come on, and i see Tricky just a few feet away from me.

Remember, i'm seventeen so i'm TRIPPED the fuck out! i was a HUGE tricky fan. I still am, but in those days, Pre-Millenium Tension and Nearly God were new...i was VERY excited about tricky!
So i said to him "Wow, tricky, i can't believe these people don't recognize you!"
And he said "I try to keep a low pro."
And holy shit. His voice in real life was JUST like his voice on the record. I thought for sure that his recorded snarl was an effect, but that's really how the motherfucker talks. 17 year old me couldn't believe it.

SO i managed to tell him what a great influence he had on my poetry and that i followed his DIY spirit...making music on a 4 track in your living room, shit like that.

And he says "Thanks. Got a light?"

And i look and it's a big spliff! I was lighting one of my here's JOINTS!
I have a feeling he knew exactly how unforgettable that would be for me. I bet he had a lighter already.

Of course i was about to piss my pants, and my hands were shaking so badly that i could barely use my lighter. Plus, i was supposed to SMOKE the joint, but i was far too nervous. Still, it was well worth it

So, lay one of your stories on me!

Interesting, since every story I've heard about him over here is that he's a bit of a diva.

Apparently, I side-eyed Paloma Faith.

Went to Amoeba Music one day and saw Lemmy from Motörhead. I went up to him and said "Thanks for the music" and his reply? "Thanks for buying."

Ha.)

Edit Oh! And Sully from Godsmack (I don't like Godsmack but I did at the time. I was in high school, give me a break).

I've met both Shane Carruth and Ondi Timoner at the Atlanta Film Festival in 2004 and a year later, Jesse Bradford at a screening for his film Happy Endings. I've also met Bradford Cox at my old record store that I hung out near my house. They were all cool.

I've partied with Jeff Tuttle (ex Dillinger Escape Plan) before. Cool guy. His wife is super nice too.

I had a 20 minute conversation about Merzbow with Chris Connely at Reckless Record in chicago a few years back.

Hung out a bunch with Tesco Vee (Meatmen, Tesco Vee's Hate Police) and John Brannon (Negative Approach, Easy Action, and Laughing Heyenas)

Rhyno (ex WWE and ECW) is a cool guy, and gets his car fixed where I work.

Met the band briefly when they were doing an autograph session during the Wave Goodbye Tour. JMJ was a really nice dude. He seemed more excited to interact with the fans than we were. Got a few words in with Trent. Asked him if he had anymore plans for Year Zero. I *think* I remember him saying he wanted to do a follow up album to it, though I could be wrong. Mainly what I remember was him saying he wanted to get the TV show done, though as we know, that project appears to be in limbo if not dead already.

Didn't meet him, but I did see Obama up close back at the White Sox World Series victory parade in 2005. This was of course before he was President.

That's all I've got really as far as up close sightings go. I do have a handful of tweets from Grimes and Carina Round.

I was in Amoeba Music in Hollywood walking down the stairs when I saw Zach de la Rocha walking up the stairs. We made eye contact but I didn't say anything. I usually don't get "fannish" around famous folk(who you come across in LA every once in awhile), but he's one one my music heros from way back when so I must've got a bit nervous. I don't know what I would say to him, anyway. He looked at an MC5 live dvd on the rack.

George Clinton tucked me and my little brother into bed when we were little. I don't remember this; my mother told us. Her friend was dating him, and my mom had a big party.

I delivered a printing job to a hotel and ran into Wayne Newton at the desk. I then realized that the stretch limo my car was in front of must be his. I left and Wayne was right behind me, trailed by a bunch of groupies. Wayne asked me if he could ride with me. I was driving a Ford Escort. Very funny, Wayne. He's about 7 feet tall.

A month or so ago J.K Rowling was spotted in my schools dining hall and a few classmates got pictures with her, turns out her horse was sick and being treated by the university animal hospital. She came by three times a week for a couple weeks until her horse was better. I never perused a photo with her because honestly I'm not the biggest Harry Potter fan.

Other than that I have had the privilege to care for a couple other celebrity pets, I gave dental cleanings to these two surprisingly well behaved pups last year. Kris Humphries mother brought them in for all their appointments, she is also super nice and hates Kim K. We had to ask...

I grew up watching the reruns because my dad loved them as a kid so he introduced me to them. We went to this celebrity horse show charity thing that William Shatner did every year (or still does, maybe, I don't know). Anyway, my uncle apparently knew someone who knew someone and my dad, brother and I all got to go "backstage" and that's where I met everyone. Billy Mumy was really nice. I remember he ended up talking to my dad for quite awhile. I have his autograph floating around somewhere.

Interesting thread lol.

- Drank beer and talked all things Batman at the Commodore downtown Vancouver with Ryan Adams.
- Hung out with Tricky before both of his most recent Vancouver shows.
- Hung out with everyone in Slipknot after their set, 1999 in Calgary instead of watching Coal Chamber lol (Slipknot was opening). Was VIP at their show here at the PNE Forum so got to hang out with them again before their set.
- Drank with Dani from Cradle of Filth. He must've hit the bong like a maniac because he was high as shit, very polite though.
- Met Dez Fafara after a DevilDriver show in Calgary (pretty good live)...pompous but polite.
- Met Dino and Burton from Fear Factory at HMV downtown before 1999 Ozzfest here in Vancouver. Burton, very cool. Dino, what a prick.
- Met Harrison Ford walking downtown Vancouver while he was here shooting 'Firewall'. One of the nicest dudes around.
- Met Samuel L Jackson downtown at a pub. Polite but kind of an ass.
- Met the cast of Fringe while they were filming. All very, very awesome. Anna Torv...uuunnnnggghh.
- Met Giancarlo Esposito from Breaking Bad, super awesome dude.
- Met Bruce Campbell and Tom Savini, nice guys.
- Shook Tom Waits' hand.

EDIT: Also, may or may not have had a tour end party with Sigur Ros that ended up in their hotel room and my friend Connor having to tuck Jonsi in after he threw up for about 10 minutes straight.

My friend, we're talking about Samuel L Motherfucking Jackson here. Of course he's going to be kind of an ass. Especially if you think he's Laurence Fishburne! :P

Also: when I was a baby (7-8 months old) I'm told that a very famous Québécois singer (at the time) talked to me and wanted to pick me up from my mother's arms (I was a very cute baby). I screamed like he was the Devil.

Bumped into James Dean Bradfield from the Manics randomly on a train, in the dining car queue. He said 'hi' to me, I did the biggest double take ever, then spent five minutes twisting myself into knots deciding what to say to him. I ended up just bottling it and letting him go in front of me, I thought, you made one of my most favourite albums ever, you can get your coffee before me, it's the least I can do.

A friend and I bumped into James Iha and Melissa Auf der Maur in Germany (at Checkpoint Charlie, believe it or not) on the "last" Smashing Pumpkins tour in 2000. We chatted with Melissa because we were Canadian, had a good laugh, and she put us on the guest list for the Berlin show. Sweaty German crowd, was awesome.

I've been drunk on more than a few occasions with Marty Bulloch, drummer of Mogwai.

I've been hiking (and drunk, though not at the same time) with Nate Query, bassist of The Decemberists.

I stood in a queue behind Pete Townsend once at an airport in France. Only time I've ever been intimidated. I left him alone.

I worked for magazines for a decade and met a bunch of famous musicians. One of my regrets is never meeting TR or Manson. (or going to Japan).

Jonathan Davis was flirty with me, which was enjoyable. Munky gave me a box of joints of the best weed I have ever smoked (apparently he shares a dealer with Snoop Dogg).
Adam Jones was an asshole, which was painful. Justin joined in.
But Maynard was nice (even though he did join in with Adam laughing at me that other time). Danny was cool.
Mike Patton, Henry Rollins, Andrew WK: all cool.
Krist Novoselic at a spoken word event: bumped into him in the restroom later, and he nodded hello.
Metallica circa 2009 - including Lars Ulrich - surprisingly cool and professional. Trujillo in particular was very witty.
Ian Watkins - yes - very charming, if a little insincere - this was 2004.
Josh Homme was a dick to me over the phone.
Fred Durst - kinda awkward, though polite.
From First To Last - including Skrillex - cool and friendly.
The Clown from Slipknot is a complete asshole.
Phil Anselmo was awful: high on drugs and fell asleep during interview. Also uttered the immortal quote "We must...retaliate...for the events...of November the 11th" (girlfriend nudges him and whispers in his ear). "September the 11th."

I won't even list the countless assholes - most of them in emo or b-list metal bands.
Ozzy Osbourne owes me like $500 for cancelling an interview - I never even met him.

Jaz Coleman took the piss out of me, in very British and friendly way. Dave Grohl, who was also there, didn't get it - thought he was seriously bagging on me, and so treated me with contempt: thus, Dave will always be an asshole in my book.

Two encounters with Boy George: he was friendly both times. I used to live near him in London.
The first time I said hi from across the road and he gave me a huge smile. The second was at a Q+A in NYC: I asked him something about "how to be happy" and afterwards he kinda mocked me for it, though in a friendly way.

Saw Baby Spice and Liam Gallagher in a supermarket in North London (though not together).

Said hi to Ethan Hawke in the restroom at a Courtney Love show.

Saw David Byrne on a bicycle stopped at the traffic light in Astor Place, NYC. I've been neighbors with Rachel Weisz and Zadie Smith in NYC, and seen them around.

My favourite celeb encounter: I am in LA, for work. My photographer has gotten me into an exclusive-type club night. I proceed to get drunk, chat with various LA musicians, including, if I remember correctly, Kelli Scott from Failure. When I go back inside, after a smoke, I turn around, and start chatting with Quentin Tarantino. After a while I run out of things to say. Remember I am very very drunk, and kind of an asshole sometimes in those days. I am a Brit journalist kicking shit across America: sometimes I get up myself. It suddenly seems a good idea to me to say: "People say you're a bit of a sell-out these days." This is before Kill Bill - to my mind at the time he had sort of disappeared from view and sunk into Hollywood high society. He looks at me very calmly and says "I think you're being passive aggressive now. Passive aggressive is not good." At that point I have a kind of epiphany: the clouds part and a light shines down on me into my drunken stupor and for 30 seconds I am in a Quentin Tarantino movie. He goes back to dancing. I go back to my hotel room and throw up. The next day my photographer mocks me for not getting laid. The End.

Met Corey Taylor a few times, one of the only artists who made it a point to come to ME without me asking or calling him over. Totally a 10/10 dude and he actually stayed a few minutes and actually initiated conversation before he went in the venue.
Met Shawn Morgan, he's 10 feet tall and a mega cool dude.
Met Wednesday 13 about 8 times, can't say anything bad about him.
Met the Deftones during the Saturday Night Wrist era, Chino and Chi were coming out of their bus and I asked them to sign my copy of White Pony, they refused because it was "too old" and they were "only signing the new album". I handed it back to them. Fuck those guys.
Met the MSI guys a bunch of times, Steve was kind of an asshole.
Brian from Shadows Fall was pretty nice.
Andrew from Ludo is a huge egotistical prick.
Met all the variations of In This Moment from Beautiful Tragedy until now. Maria has turned into a diva more and more as they release new albums, it's sad.
Met Marilyn Manson once, he's as weird as I expected him to be.
Met All That Remains 4 or 5 times, the last time they invited me and my now fiance onto their bus to chill for 30 minutes or so...they let us hear some of the demos off a war you cannot win...that was cool.

Ummm... I met George Thorogood once(I just had to Google "Bad to the Bone singer" to remember his name).

And then a few weeks ago, I went to an Alessandro Cortini show and he was standing RIGHT NEXT TO ME watching the act before him. I had some SERIOUS internal debate about saying anything. I ended up deciding that it would be a dick move to be like "I'm a huge NIN fan" at HIS show. So, I posted about it in one of those NIN facebook groups. And then Richard Patrick responded telling me that I should have said something. Lol.

Anyway, there aren't many chances to meet famous people in Nebraska.

Kate Flannery came to my college graduation (she's an alum) but I didn't get to personally talk to her, since it was the day before The Office's series finale party so she couldn't stay long to chat with the class. She offered the words of advice "don't drink on the job" to us, though.

Briefly met Rob Zombie and his band a few years ago at a m&g before a show. The entire conversation was pretty much "I've been a huge fan of yours since White Zombie and your music has kinda influenced my tastes since then" though I doubt I worded it so well because I was kinda in awe. Rob and John were both really nice guys, the others didn't really talk.

Other than that... um... does Rob count? lol
Oh, and Josh Freese answered me in The Spiral chat once. He then proceeded to take over, and Rob had to boot him so they could go start the show. Wish I could talked to him in person, he seemed amazing.

Mr. Dressup was the nicest man alive but I was like 4, maybe 5 when I met him.

Met the guys from Billy Talent YEARS ago, just before their first album came out and they were opening for Sum41, they were awesome. Ben tried to hit on my friends mom, and even after he knew it was a no-go he still hung around and got chairs for me and my friend to stand on so we could see the show from the very back of the crowd. Also hung out with Zeds Dead when I set up for their show a few years ago. We did a bunch of jagerbombs and had a couple beers and just talked out weird shit we saw on the internet.

I met Rob Zombie and his band at Mayhem Fest a few years ago (this was when Joey Jordison was his drummer). I also met Wednesday 13 because he was there promoting the new Murderdolls record with Joey, even though the band wasn't actually playing on that tour. He and Joey were at a table of their own and Rob and the rest of the crew were at another one, so I paid for both meet and greets.

As my friend and I are standing in line for the first signing, a golf cart had to pass through the line and it just happened that the line broke in half exactly where I was. As the golf cart passes right in front of me (damn near running my foot over), I realize that Rob and Joey are on it. Naturally, my friend and I started freaking the fuck out.

The first signing was for Wednesday and Joey. Wednesday was pretty damn awesome (he was joking around with everybody and just generally trying to be personable), but Joey was very quiet and didn't seem all that excited to be there. Granted, it was about 100 degrees outside and he was wearing a leather jacket, so that might have had something to do with it. I was still super excited, though, and I wasn't able to say much to either of them.

When I made it into the next tent about a half hour later and saw Rob, John 5 and Piggy D, my heart just stopped and I started hyperventilating. I staggered over to the table with this awestruck look on my face and handed my CD to them to sign. I finally managed to shakily squeak out "may I please shake your hand" before I started crying and "thank you so much" when they handed me my CD back and each shook my hand. They were all extremely nice and accommodating to me. Eventually a security guard had to come and lead me outside and sit me down on the grass because I was holding up the line. I just sat there crying like a little bitch and staring at my hand... Obviously I'm a master of great first impressions.

If I ever met Trent, I'd very probably have a full on fit and lose consciousness.

My aunt was in Broadway shows and played opposite Ron Perlman in the stage version of A Few Good Men which was directed by her then husband. It was the first time I got to actually go "backstage" to a Broadway show and was introduced to Ron.

She also was in a small town production of How To Succeed In Business with Ralph Macchio who came out to meet us after the show.

I ran into Alessandro Cortini and Aaron North outside of the Boston Orpheum for the With Teeth club tour. Aaron was in the middle of describing key Boston sights to Alessandro when I walked up to them and chatted it up some. A bit later, when looking for a pre-show bar to hang out in, I ran into Trent strolling the area about a block from the venue. He was easy going about shaking fans hands who walked up to him and I worried he was getting way too overwhelmed so I just tapped him on the shoulder as I passed and wished him a good show that night, he turned around and said "thanks man". The show wasn't great but it was the best show ever for me.

James Hetfield is quiet and reserved, he has a firm handshake and a tough leathery hand. Not as tall as I imagined
Twiggy is very sweet and if he wasn't stoned when I met him then he has a natural floppiness
Manson was drunk but very hail fellow well met
Lee Dorrian has a good sense of humour and can really drink
The rest of Napalm Death are all pretty safe
Justin Broadrick is quiet and gives off a sort of trenchcoat mafia vibe
Akercocke are all gents and very knowledgeable about 70s british horror films and doctor who
The singer of NFD is an absolute penis - they're not that famous but he was such a cock I feel it deserves a mention
Graham Coxon of Blur is very nice, he goes (or went) for crafty drinks in the rock bars in Camden, one time he fixed my ipod in the dev - which was rammed, but being mostly metallers and punks nobody had a clue who he was
Orange Goblin are all very safe, ben ward really is ben ward, it's not an act
I saw current 93 having a picnic once but didn't bother them
we heckled sum 41 when they walked past us at reading 2003, they all looked pissed off apart from the bass player, who thought it was funny. He was the first to leave apparently

Met R Lee Ermey at my first job when I was 16. Really nice guy, and even had paper and a sharpie on him so he can sign autographs for people.

I met George Romero at a convention last year. Also a nice guy. I was so nervous meeting him. My friend and I got to talk to his wife for a good 2 hours while he was packing up about movies, home life, and more. It was a great experience.
At the same convention, Dick Warlock (Michael Myers in Halloween II) sat down beside me in the lobby and talked to me about cell phones, and I defended Malcolm McDowell when 2 fans cornered him about the prices on his table. He patted me on the back and said that I was a good chap and not wankers like those other 2.

Meg Foster kissed me 2 months ago.

As for musicians, I haven't personally met many, but I chatted with the lead singer and cello player from Murder by Death, and they're 2 of the most down to earth people around.

Pray you never have to meet Matthew Broderick. Worked on a movie with him and Danny DeVito (who, in turn, is probably top ten of nicest celebrities on the planet) and he was batshit insane. Actually insane. As in yelling at the top of his lungs at my friend who worked on the set for no good reason (Zack looked at him in the eyes walking by with some cables when Broderick didn't know who he was...that's literally it). Needing his 'handlers' to take him back to his trailer for an hour to calm down. The reason? 'He can't have anyone look him in the eyes if he hasn't seen you on the set before.' We later learned (this is before the time of Wikipedia's widespread usage) that he made all his Ferris Bueller money, and when in Ireland living like a pimp, killed two women in a head on car collision when he veered in to the wrong lane. Apparently he's a lot more mellow now, but legitimately insane whenever I saw him on set. So yeah, crappy holiday movie called 'Deck The Halls'.

Oh, and the one woman from Sex and The City, Kristin Ritter or whatever her name is...one day she wouldn't leave her trailer before she was given cotton candy to eat. A full grown woman. So the head PA runs up to me and my friend Zack (friend who got me the PA job) with $50 in petty cash. 'Go find cotton candy'. Movie was filmed in late summer so we hightail it to the PNE as fast as we can and literally spend almost $50 on cotton candy. Load it back up in my friend's jeep, drive back to set...and see her out shooting her scene. 'What happened.' 'Oh, the director stormed in to her trailer and demanded she get the fuck out and start working or she'd be replaced with someone else. We're only on the 2nd week of filming and he'll do it.' This was a full grown woman.

Danny DeVito and I ate lunch together twice on set. What a nice fuckin' guy. And funny as hell. Nobody really knows it, but he's witty as shit and took the time to learn every single person's name on set and ask them about their day.

An old guitar player buddy of mine got to hang out with Zakk Wylde in his trailer before a show in D.C. a few years back (this was before he got sober). At one point, Zakk looks at the clock, grabs a beer, opens it, downs it all in one go, flips the bottle to where he's holding the neck of it like a club, smashes the goddamn thing against his head, then simply says "show time" and walks out to go to the stage.

He said it was one of the greatest days of his life.

Twiggy - sorry, Jeordie - was kind of a jerk to me. But I believe there's a whole class of celebs who are cool to fans but shitty to journos. And then there are those who are shitty to both categories...Depends on the publication more than the journo, I think. Although I agree about straight out assholes. Have met several of those. My BFF and I scored a lot of great interviews w/people who were notoriously anti-press because of our zine's rep. Perfect example: John Lydon was actually nice to our writer during his interview.

Jeordie and Manson were totally sweet to me when we met in large part b/c of the zine, too. I only interacted with Jeordie that once but kicked it with Manson a few times (we had a couple of good friends in common). He was always lovely but this was all back in the '90s. I like to think he'd act the same now but who knows.

And since others have shared one, here's my TR story: Tons of mutual friends, invited to studio during recording of "Broken" (BFF wouldn't come with so I didn't go), went to shitload of same parties, worked on TDS/FDTS, etc., etc. FINALLY, after the second Bowie/NIN Forum show (and a very unpleasant encounter with a member of his entourage), we're introduced at the after-show.

My friend/his then-publicist (excited voice): Trent, I've been wanting to introduce you two for so long! This is blah blah blah. She's from blah blah blah which I know you love. She's a big fan of yours.
Me (huge smile, casual voice): It's really nice to finally meet you!
TR (looking bored, totally flat voice): *nods* Hi. Nice to meet you.
Then one of his friends whispered in his ear and he went over to hit on Amanda de Cadenet.

I was beyond crushed. (I didn't have any gentlered fantasies; I was just looking forward to chatting.) Driving home, I figured out that I got one word for every year I'd been a fan. I thought about sending him an invoice for all the merch I'd bought and all my travel expenses with a note saying, "the least you could have done was buy me a couple of drinks, asshole" but never went through with it. The whole things is hilarious to me now for so many reasons and it obviously never affected my love for NIN.

I met Nelly Furtado briefly. She is really short and looks quite different in person. I didn't really know it was her until after.

Edit: I didn't even know who I was running into with Furtado. It was me trying to take a shortcut through town hall and running into her after a public appearance. If the list isn't limited to just notable musicians, then I have ran into Jack Layton (late NDP leader in Canada), Carol James (former B.C NDP leader), and the Emperor of Japan.

That sucks, but to be fair that was during the era that Trent said he was on all sorts of drugs and he was struggling with buying into his own celebrity bullshit. He's pretty regretful about it now. I've met a few people that said he's a polite, nice guy nowadays.

As for famous folk I met, I've ran into Conan O'Brien at a Quiznos, Quentin Tarantino at a Vons, Edward Norton at a doctor's office, and Ian McKellen in a bookstore. I don't ask for autographs or pictures, I only say, "I just want to say that I enjoy your work." They all seemed to appreciate the low key-ness and each reached out to either shake my hand or pat me on the back.

I work at a dine in movie theater that's in downtown KC near a few music venues so we always have musicians coming in on their off days and shit like that. Notable ones:

- Trent, obviously, if you remember my story from the NIN Spotting Thread in September '13. Nicest dude. It was amazing
- Nikki Sixx came in and watched Guardians of the Galaxy and without all of his makeup he looked like a homeless 70 year old.
- Some dude from Five Finger Death Punch saw Captain Philips and had to be cut off, because he was ordering too much whisky.
- Donald Glover came in with a posse and saw The Wind Rises. Glover was weird as fuck, left the film halfway through it and sat in the lobby with his head in hands, and when another employee came over to see if he was alright Glover just looked at him and then ignored him. He eventually walked on his tab before the movie ended. Basic.
- When Jennifer Lopez was in town for American Idol she wanted to come in and see Guardians, called 20 minutes before the movie started and wanted us to block out the whole theater so she could watch it by herself with her crew and sneak them in a side door, and when we were like "Sorry, we have normal people who paid for tickets in there. You're more than welcome to still come in and sit in the back row." Her agent or whatever scoffed and hung up on us.

Wow some great stories in here. I don't have very many brushes with fame.

Henry Rollins bought a record off me once on Ebay. It was Æthenor - En Form For Blå.
I've met and talked to countless musicians, but none that I'd consider really famous. Favorite was chatting with Aaron Turner from Isis after we watched Tim Hecker.
Oh, I've met a few Sharks players. No one that's still in the NHL anymore.

Maynard twice. Once when I was 15 along with Billy Howerdel and Josh Freese and Snake River Conspiracy. The second time was a few years ago at aPuscifer show. Met Josh Freese again when playing for Nin along with Twiggly-Pants and Aaron North.

Dan Carey on several occasions, have lost count. My favorite drummer :) and yes, Adam Jones is a prick.

Almost got in a fight with the lead of Drowning Pool the weekend before he died. He was all smiles and buddy buddy until I asked how his shitty band was fortunate enough to open for Coal Chamber.

Just about every small name hard core/metal band to come through MN from 2003-2008 including Lamb Of God, Killswitch (all 3 singers, yes, there were 3), Gwar, so many others I can't list. The Bled was my favorite, I became great friends with them and always have a great time when they come to town, though I don't care for the music much anymore.

Last year I met Ilan in Vegas at the first Nin/SG show. I have a lot of respect for that dude. He was the hardest worker on this last tour, imo. He was nice enough to take a pic with my wife and I and shoot shit for a bit at the Halo Bar.

But I was most star struck by Robin Finck. Even though he is not the greatest musician of all time he's my favorite musician around. Even more than TR. My wife said "hi I'm Lindsey..." I couldn't say anything. She said "and this is Steve". All I could say was I love you and I got a warm hug and he took pics with us then gave us pizza. That'smy profile pic, ETS represent!

Too many to count; it's just part of my job. And a lot of times, it doesn't really phase me - we're both just people doing our jobs, and we're either having a working conversation or just making small talk.

But whenever Paul McCartney would walk by and say hi...that one always kind of threw me for a loop.

We unknowingly stayed at the same hotel as Soundgarden the night before the SG/NIN show. I did the name your own price so didn't pick the hotel, decided to splurge on a 5 star on the beach, got a good deal too (our bar tab for the 2 of us was more than the room). Saw the buses in the parking lot when we got there and the bartender told us who was there. NIN was at the Four Seasons next door. Wandered over there in my drunken state thinking we were totally going to hang with the band, used the restroom, and went back to our hotel and played pool with the new GM of the hotel. Ate breakfast next to Kim Thayil the next morning, but I suck at being social so didn't say anything, plus I was hungover and hadn't had my coffee yet. Got a pic of nin's tour bus, lol. A few days later I saw a pic on Mariqueen's Instagram from the same time we were out wandering the beach.

Curly Neal used to come into the gas station I worked at in college to buy scratch off tickets. He would stand around, scratching off his tickets, and chatting. I didn't know who he was until the guy that worked with me told me. He had been in several times before chatting with me before I knew who he was. Have an autographed picture from him. Also met and have an autograph from Sherman Hemsley.

-I watched Nick Oliveri play foosball at the Lollapalooza 2003 in San Antonio TX, I got to say hi and take a picture with him.
-In July 2009 I was in Austin TX for a Modwheelmood show, went to the venue in the afternoon to get tickets, and I walk into the venue, looking for someone to sell me a ticket. The band was setting up, so I walked up to the stage and shook hands with Alessandro, friendly dude. Told him that I had seen him with NIN in Mexico a few months before, and that it had been a great show.
-Greg Puciato gave me a hug during DEP's set at the SG/NIN tour.
-I saw Buzz Osborne walk around the venue before a Melvins show in Houston, summer of 08. I said "Buzz!" and he said "I'll be back". He left, and then he indeed came back and took a picture with me and my brother.
-Saw Mike Bordin, John Hudson and Billy Gould at the Guadalajara, Mexico airport the day after the FNM show in the same city (I attended that show). For some reason I had The Real Thing CD with me, and they signed it. I talked briefly to Billy Gould about Brujería.
-I've met Henry Rollins about three times, post spoken word show. Super cool dude.
-Met Incubus as part of their Make Yourself Foundation meet & greets.
-I've seen Mike Patton and Buzz Osborne after a Fantomas show in Mexico City. They were going to sign people's posters, but someone started pushing and shoving and they decided to leave. Not their fault.
-Met Carina Round after a Puscifer show, he signed me a couple of her CDs. Matt McJunkins was hanging around, having a drink, and I shook his hand.
-I shook hands with the bass player of Retox, they had opened up for Tomahawk and he was by the merch stand after Tomahawk was over.
-I went to a super market to a "buy Maynard's wine and have him sign the bottle" event, but they ran out of wine before it was my turn. I saw the back of his head as he was leaving.

I insulted Jerry Only from the Misfits once, true story...

They "Misfits" (TM), were in town and i decided that it's better than nothing so i went to see them, I went the place early to get a good spot, when i arrived, i just found a small line of people.
I'm waiting in the line outside the venue, the place is beside a Restaurant (actually they share the same building), but the restaurant door is closed for the event, so i'm there, with the restaurant door very close to me (only a small fence separated the line from the building) and out of the restaurant Jerry comes out with a platter with lots of salad and a what i looked like a lobster, nobody notices since they are watching the entrance of the venue.
When Jerry came out he was heading to the venue with the food in the platter, but before he went in, he shouted: "HEY YOU GUYS WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? THE MISFITS SUCK!!!", everyone looked puzzled and most people didn't knew how to react (i'm pretty sure some guys didn't even knew it was Jerry...), so i just shouted: "...YOU'RE THE ONE WHO SUCKS, JERRY!!!".
He just stared at me with an uncomfortable grin and went inside the building...

...I thought to myself: "Glenn Danzig would've been proud"

My encounters are probably only interesting if you're into weird indie bands like me, but for those who might care, here goes.

(disclaimer: I was a serial 'fan artist', and all of the following stories - with the exception of NIN - have to do with me presenting original art as a gift to the band members)

I met Katie Stelmanis of Austra twice, and the first time was really special (I'm guessing because she was at least a tad sloshed at the time FYI). Anyway, some of you may know that Katie is a huge NIN fan, which I knew prior to this meeting. I specifically wore my Pretty Hate Machine this particular night during an Austra gig in Brooklyn. She DJ'd down the street afterwards where I followed. I eventually got the nerve to say hi and the first thing she said to me was 'I love your shirt! I was just listening to that album today. It's so good!' I then handed her the poster I made, she said it was 'incredible' then asked for my name and wrote on the poster I gave her. She's adorable and amazing (and again, was probably heavily buzzed during out meeting ;))

I met School of Seven Bells: Allie was demure and soft spoken but utterly polite. Benjamin was magnanimous. I'm truly grateful I was able to meet him before he passed. I could tell he was a lovely guy.

I also met the band Chairlift at the same venue I met Austra. Patrick the bassist couldn't be more chill, but Caroline (singer) really left an impression. Before I could even finish introducing myself, she shakes my hand and says "have we met before?" which is crazy because a.) I look familiar to you?! and b.) it's the title of one of their more popular songs. That was a surreal & unexpected moment. Once we established that we hadn't met before, I presented her with my fan bullshit, she gave me a hug, and my brother posed us for a photo... but it was Caroline who suggested we do a goofy photo first then a serious one. She's an actual angel.

I met Io Echo about a year ago, and they were just the nicest. I got to tell Leopold Ross how much I loved the Broken City score he did w/ Atticus and he said we should grab drinks after the show! Ioanna was absolutely flattering. She's like an anime character come to life or something. When she speaks to you, you know she's genuinely interested and listening.

I met Chris Corner/IAMX, and Chris was/is a total mensch. You can tell he loves his fans. Janine, his sort-of right-hand-woman, was just as nice and engaging. I love them.

I've heard some vague horror stories about Shiny Toy Guns but I've met the entire band on 2 separate occasions and they went above and beyond to be nice to a stranger like myself. *shrug*

I met 2:54 after a show in NYC and they were more excited to meet me than I was them. A really lovely bunch. They gave me free merch!

Justin Meldal-Johnsen is one of the nicest people I've ever met in any walk of life. On the NIN|JA tour, I sat directly across from him during dinner and got to nerd the fuck out when I asked him how Ken Andrews got involved in mixing some of the The Slip live videos. I really cherish the time I got to spend with him.

Lastly, during the NIN|JA meet & greets, I missed shaking hands with Ilan altogether, shook Robin's hand, stood by JMJ (who put his arm around me :o), and didn't want to overstep my boundaries, so I didn't go after Trent since it was such a hurried process. I looked down nervously almost the whole time, and right before we're about to get our picture taken, I see an outstretched hand: I look up, and it's Trent with his cool dude sunglasses on. He says "What's up, man?" We shake and I utter some mono-syllabic response like "hey." Hardly the epic encounter a fan dreams of, but the fact that he went out of his way to greet me still moves me!

i was working as a stage monkey for the dallas cowboys halftime show on thanksgiving day in 03 or so.
the whole thing was fucking crazy, as one of my nutjob friends had somehow landed the gig of handling the whole stage production and he used all of his miscreant friends to do the work...i was one of them.
we climbed out on the catwalk over the hole in texas stadium, i tackled my brother onto the star on the field, shit like that. we broke into all the corporate boxes and stole beer and beef jerky, whatever the company who owned the box sold.
the whole thing was just too fucking surreal.

anyway, destiny's child was the act. they gave out this half assed thanksgiving dinner.
if you've ever worked a halftime show, you know about all this insanity.
i was sitting on my ass in the tunnel eating my thanksgiving dinner, and the elevator door opens, and out walks Jay-Z.

now i'm a huge jay z fan, and i'm sitting there looking crazy with my hair in braids in a cashmere coat with beaver skin around the neck, sitting on the floor.

and i stared at him with big eyes, and he looked back at me. i stammered "you're jay-z!"
and he smiled and said "right." and he kinda stood there waiting for me to say something else but i was just fucking dumbfounded.
he walked off kinda laughing at me.
