While some where actually hilarious to me, a lot of it had more to do with the fun factor regarding parodies and memes in general, but I actually understand where you're coming from.

They don't have to necessarily make me literally and absolutely LOL or ROFL though, as with any type of parody or meme.

I suppose it's just sometimes more out of the mere fun derived out of simply messing around with Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor pictures, with or without actual full-blown hilarity, let alone any hilarity at all.

It originates from the entertainment cliche wherein during, for example, a treasure hunt, the item of greater value is determined to be the friendships that are forged during the journey. So "Maybe the real treasure was the friends we made along the way" is the original cliched phrase. "The Treasure" is altered to X to reflect any given situation with the intent to parody and play off the original, to humorous effect. In this example, read at face value, the friends made are a terrible, terrible thing.

As somebody that's always looked up memes and parodies since 2000, I can actually appreciate you admitting that. It's much better than just being told, "What the hell?" or
"Oh no."

I think for me, a lot of it probably has to do with how much I followed Newgrounds and YTMND in the 2000s and the impression it left on me as proven on my Random Stupidity posts.

And it's not because I find everything funny, nor do I joke around a lot either, but it could've also originated from me getting so accustomed to laughing alone at an early age, only to be fueled by the Internet where laughs can even be found unintentionally.

As for the actual topic itself, I'll admit that there are some pictures that I don't find funny, but still just fun to look at.

For some reason, I thought it also had something to also do with the "We came. We saw. We fought. We conquered." or "Veni, vidi, vici."

As unbelievable as this might sound to some here, I actually get this too on some level. Whenever I checked out memes that came from people say born around 1995-2000 and later, they just didn't really do anything for me.
