Cant believe how much money those shit balls are worth though. Flo-rida (oh, I get it! FLORIDA!) fucked up a very nice Bugatti. Hopefully they didn't prioritize their spending habits and will be filing chapter 11 soon (hence the casino gigs).

Second only to Kennedy as MTV's worst personality. At least Jesse Camp had the good sense to fade into obscurity and not pollute the airwaves on CNN as a prognosticator.
i seriously loved kennedy during the alternative nation days. i was 14, so there's that.

i think it was late junior year that they held that vj contest. i could barely understand the guy. he had this wannabe new york dolls image via street kids, but he grew up in affluent connecticut in private schooling.

and the dude who came in second went on to have a huge career.

Kennedy is one of the few decent people, based on her thrashing of Rick Santorum and some of his ilk, on Fox News (although she's primarily on the business channel, and occasionally makes an appearance on the mothership). Has anyone read her book? I've seen it pop up on Kindle a few times and am a little interested in it.

I occasionally roll my eyes at what goes on in this thread, but imagining Jesse Camp slumming it on CNN makes it all worth it.

I hear you. The funny thing is, instead of trying to capitalize on the success of their massive hit, they actually became an angrier and dirtier group. They could have done a million Jump Arounds, but chose to go deeper down the hardcore route on their following albums.

HoP are far better than given credit for. Jump Around was good song on its own, its just played out beyond belief to where no fan of theirs ever wants to hear it again. They have tons of great hip hop in that aggressive, 90's boom bap sound. DJ Muggs has alot to do with how good they were. Hence, similar sound to Cypress Hill/Soul Assassins on some tracks:

Unfortunately I recorded SNL just for Alec Baldwin doing Trump or Milissa McCarthy doing Sean Spicer, there were two Baldwin doing Trump and one Baldwin doing Bill O' Rielly (which was awesome) the unfortunate part was The Chainsmokers were the musical act. I hope that is my first and last experience with them. I watched it to give it a chance, my first thought was the sound was so thin do they really need three keyboard players for this? Then I was like the song is stupid, I hate the singer and when is this going to be over.

A perfectly fine "summer hit". My only pet peeve with it, is that when I was at places where all you can listen to is the mainstream radio stations, then you heard this song in every 2 hours. Then again, that's more of an issue with how mainstream radio stations operate.

I tried to give Fallout Boy a chance as they were one of the bands playing before NIN at Reading Festival 2007...man were they awful. Like REALLY awful, Top of the Pops 1990's backing track lip syncing awful, but they did allow me to get right to the front and dead center for NIN 2 hours early, so i'll give them that.

Slightly off topic but a band i can't get behind...Biffy Clyro. On CD they sound alright, but every time i've caught them live (mainly supporting) they've been terrible, like a bunch of kids who'd just discovered guitars and tried covering their own songs live

I bought a copy of Spirit to try and get a better place in line for tickets to that show (which was incredible by the way) but the pricing on some of those seats was utterly ridiculous. $650 to sit in the first 5 rows and not a seat cheaper than $200 to sit on the floor?!?! I couldn’t imagine anyone over the age of 16 liking this song.

Two of my former roommates (21 and 22 at the time) played it at every party, any time we drank, and anytime they wanted to show people how funny and random they were, woooOOOOaaah! Groundbreaking!

Anyway, came here to say that "Creature Comfort" by Arcade Fire needs to be shoved into the bottom of a trash can and set on fire. That song sounds AWFUL to me.

He's just saying that because he has an axe to grind against cool/hipster music, so endorsing an obviously shitty bar rock band like Nickelback probably feels "rebellious" from his perspective. It's just like when he tried to claim that Deep Purple was way better than Radiohead, lol. He's still trying to stick it to the Pitchfork crowd after years of feeling disrespected and mocked by them. He is trying to reject and undermine the aesthetic values of a scene that he feels has wronged him.

It honestly makes so much sense that Billy has become a bitter right winger who is susceptible to loopy conspiracy theories about the media and the powers that be, because it overlaps with his dumb ideas about music culture.

I'd say the main reason is that he's flapped his gums about being "unappreciated" for a good twenty years now, so he sees that in them. He probably does respect them for shitting out marketable singles that get airplay, which to him epitomizes success. :/

The new album's now being listed as 'Billy' on streaming services from what I understand, incidentally. :P

For me personally, it's a toss-up between Machine Head and Burn as those 2 albums represent the band in two different line-ups. The former is the classic Mach II line-up of Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover, Jon Lord, and Ian Paice while the latter features the Mach III line-up of Blackmore, Lord, Paice, David Coverdale, and Glenn Hughes.

Oh come on now, WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT?!?!?!?!?!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

EDIT1 -- This opening track is nowhere near as good as Everything In It's Right Place. Strike one.

EDIT2 -- The guitar solos on this shit are obviously very technically impressive, but ultimately it sounds stupid and cheesy and wanky. Given that Billy is such an avowed "guitar nerd" I could see how he could listen to this bullshit and be like "How could anyone argue that Radiohead has better guitar players than Deep Purple?!", which I personally find hilarious and charming in all it's obliviousness.

EDIT 3 -- oh god this second song is HORRIBLE!!! How did anyone ever enjoy this sort of trashy bar rock shit? What's the appeal of this bizarre nonsense? I feel utterly alienated to this shit. Oh come on now they're playing AN ORGAN SOLO ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME

EDIT 4 -- Why are the songs so long? I'm barely wrapping the second song I think, and I just feel like, how am I going to make to the end? WHY does every song need five masturbatory solos? What exactly is achieved with this shit

EDIT 5 -- It's no wonder punk rock had to come along and deal with this situation.

EDIT 6 -- Guys, this music is not good. IT'S NOT GOOD. You did this to me. You subjected my ears to these sounds. Why? I'm a reasonably good person, I try to help people when I can, I show up to work on time, I'm friendly with people on the bus. I didn't deserve this.

EDIT 7 -- I'm not sure if I've actually heard any of Death Grips music, but nevertheless, Death Grips is a much better band than Deep Purple. Of this, I am sure.

EDIT 8 -- Oh THIS SONG???? I know this stupid fucking song. Smoke on the Water. That's who sang this bullshit? This song has RUINED guitar centers forever, and frankly I think the company could have a reasonable shot at suing this band for damages. This guitar riff is singlehandedly responsible for making those stores uninhabitable and driving off their business.

EDIT 9 -- No wonder Billy has guested on the Alex Jones show. This kind of music will do that to you.

EDIT 10 -- I don't even like music, to be perfectly honest. This is a terrible art form. Think about how much horrible music is out there. Almost all of it is horrible. How did humankind ever find the strength to persist with an artistic medium that has such a dismal success rate?

EDIT 11 -- I had been listening to Tricky's Maxinquaye before I switched to this, and the change was quite jarring.

EDIT 12 -- I'm on track 6 now, Lazy. You know, 70s blues rock really must have been a dire thing to experience first hand.

EDIT 13 -- Track 7 now, "Space Truckin'" I can actually sort of appreciate how stupid these lyrics are. I think these lyrics are the only redeemable thing I've encountered so far.

EDIT 14 -- I'm really glad that rock music is dead. All in all, I think it's a net gain.

EDIT 15 -- Oh time for a carnival drum solo!!!!

EDIT 16 -- Alright last song FINALLY!!! Maybe this one will be good. It's not too late!!! They could still redeem themselves.

EDIT 17 -- Ah yes, closing with a sad ballad type thing. Naturally.

EDIT 18 -- Actually I kind of like this last one sort of. My hypothesis is that it's cause I'm a big fucking wimp and I just can't take the HARD DRIVING ROCK of the previous bullshit songs, but this one appeals to my inner pansy.

EDIT 19 -- Alright that's it, the album is done and I'm really annoyed now, but anyway, there's no way in a million fucking years that fucking nonsense is better than Radiohead, are you fucking kidding me? William Patrick needs to broaden his horizons and stop pinning for a past that wasn't actually very good to begin with.

Anyway, Rhett and Void, you guys owe me for this shit. Someday in the future I may call on you for a favor, and I will expect you to remember my sacrifice here tonight and honor that call.

I have tried but I really don't care for the National. Probably has something to do with the Hateful Fred connection. The Fred are definitely my least favorite band ever. They tend to bring out psychotic reactions. I had a former friend who I hired to work in my warehouse who was a fredhead. Made me listen to those assholes every single fucking day for a year & a half. I can never listen to them again. I accidentally caught them on Colbert a few weeks ago & they were still horrible. Now they have John Mayer making guitar player faces whilst playing really lame crap. I'm glad the fredheads haven't attempted a takeover here. There are a couple of other band sites I frequent where they have attempted takeovers. So lame & boring. I'm really glad that Trent & NIN are about as far away from that whole vibe as you can get.

the Hateful Fred is a name Robert Pollard of Guided by Voices came up with for the Grateful Dead. The connection is the National put together a 3 cd package of Fred (Dead) cover versions. Lots of artists I like contributed but the blame for the project goes to the National. With the exception of TV on the Radio I'm not wild about most the bands that came out of the NYC scene that spawned the National. Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Strokes, etc.

ah, ok. i was unfamiliar. i'm a casual GBV fan but i wouldn't have known about bob's nickname for the dead. i also hate the grateful dead (like, a lot) so i can understand why that would taint your view of the national.

aren't the national from ohio? i wouldn't file them in with bands like TVOTR, YYY, or the strokes; they're way too mellow to be associated with acts like those that thrive on high-energy momentum.

the only national album i truly love is "high violet" and i think that's ultimately because of how/when it came into my life. their stuff before that is fine, but i never feel compelled to listen to it, and their stuff after it has been, again, fine, but i never feel compelled to listen to it.

I've had to accept the fact that their fans and I seem to exist on totally different frequencies, and that we'll never be able to understand each other. I've known so many people (people with good taste in music) who are huge fans and will send me songs while telling me, "Okay, try this one! You've GOT to like this one. If you can listen to this song and not feel moved by the power and the emotion of it, you must be dead inside." And so I listen and just shrug my shoulders and think "Well then, I guess I'm dead inside, cause this seems boring as shit to me."

I think there's just a fundamental difference in wiring between us.

In a warehouse. We have always allowed headphone usage up until about September and it was revoked for both an influx of order mistakes as well as general safety due to forklifts being about. I understand it but it just sucks. I’m considerate and won’t blare (aka play) my moody dark shit or extreme metal genres since I know people don’t wanna hear it. Then there’s others who play modern rap and electronic shit like I last mentioned without batting an eye. I don’t mind music but an assault of sound from 3 sources and all different genres gets annoying when people play them loud.

I listen to my wireless ear buds when I’m in the other warehouse anyways because the time needs to pass.

I’m productive enough even with it all. I work at a very relaxed and chill place so they encourage you to do it if it allows you to work. I just don’t think people have to be as obnoxious as they are with it.

LDR is now being sued for ripping off Radiohead's biggest hit, to the surprise of absolutely no one.

I mean, she already ripped off her whole image from Tori Amos and Hope Sandoval, her latest album title from Iggy Pop, and even shamelessly includes a bid for a Coachella slot on her latest album.

She needs a new career. One that requires zero originality whatsoever..

Reading that article though, Radiohead have a bit of a cheek given that they themselves had to settle out of court to somebody else over that song, settling out of court suggests there was some case to be made doesn’t it?

@ Radiohead: yeah, something like that.

@ Lana Del Rey live: I can’t say from firsthand experience, but per live footage in more recent years I’ve seen, she’s obviously done more than shown up her bad national TV debut exposures. It gets really old seeing people still bring that up, or rather actually use it against her still.

Mark Lanegan might not have much of a stage presence but he can sing his fucking ass off. The guy should be a bigger deal but I'd rather have him be the guy at clubs.

I think those days of great stadium bands are pretty much done. Who can we turn to create these kind of spectacles? U2? Yeah, right. Their music hasn't been great for years to be worthy for them to be seen in stadiums. Back then, there was Pink Floyd, the Stones, the Who, Paul McCartney, the Boss, Tina Turner, Queen, KISS, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, and ELP. It was great to see bands like the Cure, Pearl Jam, and Depeche Mode sell out stadiums despite their reluctance as I'm sure they wouldn't do it now. I just don't understand this air of mediocrity being the ones to play places like the Rose Bowl, Dodger Stadium, and Soldier Field. I just don't get it.

Krazy
01-15-2018, 07:27 PM
I’ve never been to a stadium show. Considering I hate festivals, and think football games are a million times better on TV than going there I don’t have one reason to think they’re enjoyable.

I read that U2 360 tour was pretty cool though. Probably a better setup being in the middle of the venue than an end stage layout.

Only reason Ed Sheeran is big is because he opened for Taylor Swift for just over half a year and her fanbase ate that stuff up. My teenage daughter came back from one of the shows thinking he was wonderful. Kinda put me in a strange place to be honest. I hate Taylor Swift with a 'red' hot passion, but Sheeran can actually play an instrument from what I have seen. So, its like, okay he is he an actual musician and not just 100% manufactured like most pop artists. She played me some of his stuff and I just asked "Why can't you like Jack White or something..." I sat through Breaking Benjamin last night opening for A7X, what utter crap. I dont get the appeal of these guys, and honestly i thought half their songs were Chevelle tracks.

Their last 2 tracks were a total cringe-fest. One of the band members started swinging a lightsaber around on stage , and they wheeled out this percussion stand and played the imperial march, part of schisim, smells like teen spirit and another song i cant remember. Im a nerd, but this was total DWEEB.

Then they proceeded to bring a bunch of elementary school kids on stage for diary of jane. I hate that song. At this point I tried to picture in my mind marilyn manson circa 1996 bringing a group of kids on stage to help sing Lunchbox, and how awesome that would have been.

These guys suck, sorry.

Every song on the new 21 Pilots album has gone gold:

And while I wouldn't call the Gaslight Anthem shitty, I think they're kind of "meh."

That is depressing, I saw them in a tent at Reading festival 2013 just before they blew up (the tent wasn’t that busy) and they were one of those genre hopping bands like they couldn’t concentrate for more than 2 minutes. It must be related to how people listen to music these days, streaming, going from genre to genre. I don’t mind something utilising different genres but at least have some finesse about it. Actually to clarify I’m talking about going genre to genre within a song not an album.

While waiting for physical therapy on my foot, I heard a song so horrible I had to try and look it up by its dumbass lyrics.

It was “Bank Account” by 21 Savage. Would not recommend.

I always hated Ed Sheraman, but just heard the song Galway Girl.

Holy fucking shit. After thinking my ear drums couldn’t take a worse pounding than Imagine Dragons Lightning and Thunder song, this steaming pile went through my head.

That had to be it! It was on a TV but the glare kept me from seeing it so I just heard it and that was more than enough.

Maybe they need to get Pavement just to kill the festival all over again. I saw them do a few songs at Lollapalooza '95 and my dad was like "what is this shit?" and we left. I think that was what they were aiming to do. I love Pavement more than ever.

exactly, that garbage fest practically sells out before the lineup released. its a social event, id estimate about 25% of the crowd is actually attending for the music, the rest are there to take pictures (of themselves). its pathetic.

The fact I see Bruno Mars as the 2nd name on the list makes me seriously weep for how awesome this festival used to be in the 1990's.

I thought Metallica headlining Lollapalooza in 1996 was bad but this is blasphemous. Perry has betrayed the reasons of why he created Lollapalooza in the first place. I pray for some band to come around and just destroy everything that is unholy.

When imagine Dragons’s Radioactive hit airwaves it wasn’t bad given most radio rock. I wasn’t a fan but it was ok.

However in 2018, fuck the band to hell for how trite and overused their music is. Does every commercial have to utilize their work? How many things can Believer be tacked onto?

Haha. Yeah, just about every one of their song sounds like it can be used in a commercial- from Diet Coke to Valtrex.

I do like the chorus in It’s Time, and Radioactive seems to be an exception rather than the rule to song writing for this shitty band. Ugh, that Thunder song is fucking horrid.

I liked the first 2 albums the Killers did but they ended up trying to be like every other band like U2 and that turned me off. Especially that song "Human" where they were definitely ripping off Hunter S. Thompson and not even acknowledge it.

Human is (was?) awesome live IMHO. Check it out on YT where they played it as a festival (Rock AM Ring?) as an opener in I 2009. There was a really cool version of them too on some MTV music awards thing as well with some awesome production right around that time.

Can’t say I’m a fan or follow Hunter S Thompson’s work- no reason honestly. What’s the tie in to that song?

THUNDER (THUNDER) THUNDER! TH-TH-THUNDER, *CLAP CLAP CLAP* LIGHTNIN' AND-A THUNDER.

Yeah, I'm not a fan. I'll admit the first 30-ish seconds of "Radioactive" are awesome and I wished the song followed that more, but the first time I heard it, I'm pretty sure I turned it off after the chorus.

Unrelated: I think Tech Nine's music is awful. I just had to say it somewhere. There's some fuckin' stellar rap and hip hop out there that I admire and respect, even stuff I don't particularly like, but people hyping him up just because "aw omg he's from KC area you have to love him omg he's representing us" are insane. I also don't personally know anyone that's into Tech Nine that doesn't also say "Insane Clown Posse is actually pretty good when you give them a chance."

They're like classic Ska-Punk, but Ska-Punk is an acquired taste, for sure.

(I admit I really liked their final self-titled album back in 1996, but I'm really into Ska, so....)
