Soundgarden may be the most boring band I've ever seen live, and I thought I was a fan too.

I agree. I saw them for the first time live on Thursday's show, and now after tonight's - it's like Chris Cornell is bored with his band.

Anyways - Sanctified was fucking awesome tonight!

Agree on Soundgarden. I didn't get to my seat until about halfway through their set... And it felt like it went on forever.

Chris's voice is EXTREMELY hit or miss. At times, it sounded great and then there were times where I was fucking cringing. All of their songs just sound the same to me. :/

With that said, I enjoyed them 9473284302 times more than I liked EITS.

Doesn't appear that you're gonna get a much more animated show than tonight out of them. Chris was very talkative, moved around alot more, got some more crowd participation going than I've seen the last 2 nights, and even Kim moved around a bit, and was smiling at the crowd a bunch. Chris had a nice little speech that I will paraphrase & butcher:

"In 1994 we seemed to for some reason make alot of music that was not happy. Nowadays, all the music I hear seems to be very happy. And that's great...im glad everyone is happy now...even though the world doesnt seem to have gotten any better...

but back then there was a band we always felt a kinship with in terms of how we viewed the world. And that band was Nine Inch Nails. And it's been a great thrill to finally go out and tour with these guys, and so far it's been a really great experience."

I thought that was about as classy as one could get right there.

Gun was a big surprise and sounded great. Very heavy and Chris sang the hell out of it. Beyond The Wheel was pretty epic as well. Dude can SCREAM.

Sarah K: Jesus Christ Post & Rusty Cage sound like Fell on Black Days & The Day I Tried To Live? Just say you dismissed them and moved on, cuz that sounds more like the truth.

We got the extremely boring setlist from Trent tonight. Ah well. Show was still very good. I was with a newbie and he was very happy with the Best Of set. I had fantastic seats thanks to the presale: 7 rows back dead center orchestra. Had a gorgeous girl to the left of me who was a big fan of both bands and very nice to talk to as well. We all bonded over making fun of the haggard retired-stripper looking idiot in front of us who of course only got real excited for Closer, and danced like a hopped up moron all night. Had a couple from Ireland to my right who flew over just for this show and a mini vacation. Dude said he spent $4000 just to see this show. Awesome dedication.

Hoping for some big surprises tomorrow at PNC, and hopefully a DEP appearance during Wish, but thats doubtful on the first night.

I don't know any of their songs besides Black Hole Sun. I could hear that playing as I was walking into the venue. Yes, all of their songs other than that sounded very similar to me. I tried my best to not dismiss them. Haha. I stood up and watched. But it was just boring for me.

Those visuals were also atrocious. They would have been better off with just the lighting, and none of that other junk going on.

Alright, so the greatest hits setlist definitely helps make this show probably my least memorable NIN show, that doesn't mean it still wasn't a great show. SG was alright, I almost feel bad for Cornell, because he genuinely seemed like he was giving it his all, but wow his bandmates have no stage presence what so ever, probably worse stage presence than Pino. You don't have to jump around while you play, but they almost seemed bored playing, I don't know, this is just my opinion.

As for NIN, I would've loved some setlist surprises, but I got what I was expecting. Was great to hear TGD and Eraser for the first time, TGD probably the highlight of the set with the synth "battle" between Trent and AC. As being someone who saw the Festival tour last year, this production is very similar but not exactly the same, I noticed a couple nice subtle changes.

Also, this was my first trip to Jones Beach and what a great spot to see a show, the crowd looked absolutely massive, and the show had to be very very close to being completely sold out. Traffic was so awful coming from NJ that I missed the opener, but I'm much more interested in seeing DEP open tonight (hoping for a change up in the NIN setlist tonight as well). All in all a great night and I'd easily come back to Jones Beach, hopefully it won't be too long before NIN tours again, I'm going to guess we'll see them again in 2 years.

not to be a dick... But seeing what their tour mates brought after a bunch of shows now, you'd think they'd be embarrassed with that crap behind them.. Why bother?

my thoughts after I've had a few days:
- soundgarden sounded alright ... and then NIN came on and I actually felt bad, because NIN just *sounded* better. my wife, who is more of a soundgarden person, completely agreed. it sucks for SG -- not sure what the deal is there, except NIN is using all sorts of high-tech stuff and SG is just using amps and stuff
- that said, I enjoyed SG's set
- NIN's set... alright, so, it's over and I'm like, hm, that was sort of boring. but dammit if DURING the show I wasn't having a great fucking time. And my wife, not a NIN person, fucking loved it -- as did everyone around me, who seemed to be mainly SG people. So, I get the greatest hits thing, and it plays really well, even if it frustrates me as a "superfan."
- THAT said, the production -- jesus, that was super rad. It's ironic -- musically, give me Tension any day of the week (though Ilan did a great job on bass in disappointed, I dug that), but this production was possibly my favorite NIN production yet.

so, a great time. beautiful venue, beautiful night, my beautiful wife was next to me, and some super hot somewhat androgynous NIN fan was by herself next to us, dancing crazy all night, and that was pretty rad. glad we pulled the trigger and went.

Posting after a couple of days of digestion.

This is my 14th NIN Show. Second in the NYC area.

I was going into this show expecting to be, ah, disappointed. Everyone is bitching about set lists, Soundgarden (Me too), and Death Grips, that I just figured it was going to be footnote in my NIN history.

But I put all that nonsense behind me as soon as they took the stage.

While the setlist was typical, one I'd run through many times, I saw at least two songs I'd never seen before in iterations that were completely new. While catching the Tension 2013 Barclay show, I was more than happy to see the festival experience expanded upon. I have even happy to hear Closer, Gave Up, March of the Pigs, all old standards I'd seen countless time, given wonderful presentation.

They sounded tight, even with less people. The sonic perfection of The Great Destroyer, Eraser, and even, yes, Hand that Feeds, is the best since Trent started touring again in 05.

I caught the Wave Goodbye tour and enjoy it greatly. I saw maybe 5-8 songs I'd never thought in my life I would see live. But if this is the lasting impression I have of NIN for a couple of years until Trent decides he needs a new sun room, I'm perfectly happy with that.

The rolling light rigs are amazing, simple, and effective. Someone mentioned, I think in the 'disappointed with nin' thread, that this is a lesser rehash of LITS era lighting rigs. But in many ways, this whole system is built on the idea of that tour and taken to amazing, yet logical conclusion. Take the rigs during Terrible Lie or Hand that Feeds, and how the performers seem to literally play the screens in a manner similar to ONLY during LITS, but now using the entire stage, different lighting programs, and incorporating movement to the actual screen.

I much prefer this festival experience then, say, NIN playing behind a mesh curtain, a steal cage, or even a lighting cage, that moves up and down.

You know, when it comes to hearing staples like HLAH, or Wish, I can only think that as a long time fan, of course I've heard these songs, moshed to them, chanted to them, danced, rocked, every kind of human concert behavior. Of course that time could be spent giving me the deepest of deep cuts that ever cut deep. But when NIN is in front of me, playing music I love, that all goes away because the band I love is playing music I love. Like right over there! It's nuts!

And no matter what that is always awesome.

This was my husbands second show (We got married in July! This was a little part of that celebration) and he said this show was better visually, but Tension 2013 had a better set list.

And we both agreed that Chris Cornell is the laziest fucking performer on earth. That dude on the laptop had more going for him.

Holy shit. See, I bitch!
