I haven't gotten to see "Man Of Steel" yet. I was never really a big Superman fan. But I do really wanna check it out, probably gonna be when it comes to rent on demand.
Am I the only one who actually doesn't think the whole bringing Batman in is such a great idea? I mean, at least not so soon... feels kinda premature. I know that they're trying to get this Justice League movie going as quick as possible it seems.

But to me, Superman should have at least gotten a 2nd Superman dedicated movie or better yet... his own trilogy and the big reveal at the end of the third movie would be Batman getting involved and then continuing from there. Nolan gave Batman a great trilogy... I think Superman should be given his before throwing in another iconic superhero into the mix. If anything, I guess that I could let it go if Batman was introduced in the third Superman movie. But this just seems to soon. It's like, ok now you got Batman in the 2nd movie... where do we go from here? How do you follow that with a third Superman movie? Can there even be a third Superman movie now? Or is everything now Justice League full steam ahead???

But this little news tidbit is interesting to say the least and would be kinda epic...

I'd think Gosling would be a worse choice, actually since he seems to only have that Bronx affect in his voice (despite being Canadian). Josh Brolin on the other hand would have owned the role.

I also have nothing against Ben Affleck, sure he's has a few hiccups acting wise but still, never was as bad as people made him up to be.

BUT NOT AS BATMAN, damn it! I teared up a bit for the wrong reasons when i read that.

So much potential has been lost on this. Sure, I'm not gonna say that I won't see this because I will, but damn it.

I will always say that Michael Fassbender as Bruce Wayne/Batman would have made my year.

All the rumored choices were bad. The success of christian bale was in part because of his relative unknown status....

But this is a worst case scenario. Thats how long it takes to remove the cool from Batman: speak the phrase "Ben Afflek is playing Batman" a death sentence for its quality.

The best we can look forward to at this point is adam west level camp.

Don't get me wrong, I like Affleck too. He's turning into a great director. As an actor... Matt Damon always was the better actor of the bromance known as Matt&Ben.

I'm afraid he won't be able to hold his own in front of Henry Cavill.

What I don't like about this primarily is that this attention to this bit of casting is going to take all the focus away from Superman, whether the movie does or not. Which could spell disaster in terms of word-of-mouth for the movie in the end.

If they did this for the third film, I could ease into that but it feels like they're showing their hand too early by doing this now.

Yeah that one and Casanova was what I was thinking at the time. Haven't seen Monster's ball. But hey it worked out. Lots of people were clamoring for Karl Urban for batman which I think would have been pretty great. He nailed Dredd and that's a pretty similar role. Brolin would have been interesting too. And in this case it might help to remember how good Affleck was in Hollywoodland (in which he plays Superman, kind of). He's a good actor, and I'll be interested to see what he brings to the role.

With that said, there's only one Christian Bale. Good luck finding anyone so predatory and chameleonic as him, Ben certainly isn't.

And in this case it might help to remember how good Affleck was in Hollywoodland (in which he plays Superman, kind of).

You're making a great point and you're absolutely right. He was excellent in Hollywoodland, a movie that more people definitely should see. I really liked him also in The Town, now that I think about it.

When Ledger was cast as The Joker, I had a "huh?" moment but I knew he had it in him to pull it off. He was a gifted actor and it's tragic that we will never see his full potential. There was also a lot of backlash when Mark Ruffalo was cast as Bruce Banner and look how it turned out: he was one of the very best thing in The Avengers.

I still think Affleck is miscast though; Brolin would have been better but like I said, I'm willing to give him a chance. If only because of the terrible backlash he's being put through right now on the Net. It's just brutal and while having an opinion on his acting capabilities is one thing, personal attacks are another thing altogether.

Also: lol (http://www.thepetitionsite.com/511/165/921/tell-warner-brothers-to-remove-ben-affleck-as-batman).

Affleck's better than most people give him credit for and all the role really requires is a gruff demeanor and a lantern jaw with a side of supercool, especially as a sideman in someone else's movie...three very basic things Affleck can provide easily.

I'm down.

I remember reading an interview with Ledger where he said that he was well aware when cast that the internet would eat him alive, and it only spurned him to work all the harder to prove the world wrong, which (according to most of course) he did. Same could be done for Affleck, and I hope he kills it. Who would've thought, the internet is quick to overreact! This has never happened!

I keep hearing this, but I think that the Joker is much, much different role than Batman/Bruce Wayne in that it is far more dynamic and flexible. The Joker has always been a role that saw actors breaking boundaries and doing something unexpected, but Batman has seen actors doing what they always do. George Clooney Was George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Christian Bale too. When was last time someone did some thing new and exciting with this character?

It's because Batman is kind of a one note character and he's far, far less exciting and interesting to watch than his rogues gallery.

Also he's being directed by Zack Snyder this time, not Christopher Nolan.

I also don't have anything against Ben Afflek, actually... but this is not a role I want to see him in.

08-23-2013, 02:04 PM
I was rooting for Brolin, too. Kinda cool to see others who feel the same.

That said, the thought of Affleck facing off against Cavill -- verbally, physically, otherwise -- is really exciting to me. I feel like no one else is considering the dynamic between the 2 actors that likely played a big part in Affleck's casting. I think they'll be a fantastic onscreen team. I loved Cavill's Clark/Superman - it was a great balance of being wholesome, powerful, restrained and emotional. It's going to be amazing to finally see that juxtaposed by the darkness of Batman in a live action film.

Edit: In more important superhero news, Katee Sackhoff wants to be Harley Quinn (http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/178865-katee-sackhoff-wants-to-play-harley-quinn-in-a-batman-film). Yes.

Now that I think about it... I hope they don't keep the hair. Lex Luther needs to be bald. I can handle Superman not wearing red underwear. But Lex must be bald. As far as the casting goes, I've seen each of these actors in roles I've loved and roles I've hated. It really comes down to writing and imagery.

As far as time goes. You're absolutely right. Defining who Batman, Wonder Woman and Lex Luther are in one movie is going to be tough. Although they might just make prequels for Batman and Wonder Woman. But it's definitely getting bloated.

I'm with you all the way here. For me, I think of Jesse's persona in The Social Network and how well his transgression was with that character; we all know that he can play a very good asshole or smartass. The only beef I really had with him being cast was his look... his figure. Yea, he looks too young for the part I think, and a bit slender.. but I think between the two more years we have for this film to be release, anything can happen. I really do not know how to feel about it, but I don't hate it.

I think all of the casting for the Superman movies has been fantastic. the action scenes were stunning. the film was gorgeous. the score was beautiful.

I feel Affleck will hit it out of the park. Really hope Batman's voice isn't Bale-butchered.

Affleck has somewhat of a naturally gruff voice, no? No doubt a result of him being 6'4". My feeling is that this'll allow him to make a smoother transition between Bruce Wayne and Batman than Christian Bale for example. I'm very excited for Affleck's take... and that new photo Zack Snyder posted... so awesome. Sexy Batman indeed.

Looks a damn sight better than this at least. People always complain about the logic of the costume and well.... isn't armor a helluva lot better than threads? (Besides the fact of her powers etc.)

Sure she's still showing skin but we're on the right track if you ask me. As you can also see... Lynda Carter wasn't a bodybuilder either....

People need to relax.

My complaint has nothing to do with the actress not being a bodybuilder. My complaint is that the color scheme of it is fucking awful and makes it look like a ripoff Xena costume.

Deadpool

I'm totally down with the Wonder Woman costume: it looks like Wonder Woman at first glance (as opposed to maybe the costumes from the 1st X-Men* film) in that it maintains all the major, iconic design staples -- if not the colors -- while still looking pretty modern. As far as the heels go, I'm not surprised to see them, but I will say that Nolan & Co. made Catwoman's heels in TDKR work! (*edit: oops, they're not actually heels are they?)

I was expecting something closer to that Jim Lee re-design most people seemed to hate from a few years ago.

I can't wait to see Gal as WW kick ass on-screen. With that sword in hand, she looks meaner & more ready to fuck someone up than the photos we've seen of Bats or Supes.

Also, Wonder Woman is the original pop culture Warrior Princess compared to Xena!! :)

*I have no problem with the X-Men movie costumes

The Wonder Woman costume does look a little Xena-ish, but I think it's fine. It will be interesting to see how they fit her into this movie.

The article details both of the rather large plot points, so avoid if you want to go in blind, though now that it's out there...good luck.

Here's the two major spoilers (one is pretty big) for those who don't want to bother reading it:

Robin a.k.a. Carrie Kelley will be female and played by “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” actress Jena Malone, and Bruce Wayne has a giant fight with Lex Luthor that involves the military and lots of special effects.

Ben Affleck’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trainer, Rehan Jalali, taught some nutrition classes in London over the weekend. A Batman News reader who wishes to remain anonymous spoke to Jalali about Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight, and apparently he revealed a few new interesting details. Here’s what Jalali had to say, according to my source:

Jalali and Affleck talk every day.
There are two Batsuits (we’ve seen them both before, a traditional batsuit (seen in promo pics) and an armored batsuit (seen in Comic-Con trailer like in “The Dark Knight Returns”).
The armored suit has Kryptonite all over it, and it can shoot missiles.
There are two Batmobiles.
Affleck has a shirtless scene as Bruce Wayne to show off his new physique.
The shirtless scene is beautifully shot and shows Affleck overlooking a destroyed city (probably Metropolis?).

Superman's cape in man of steel was half CGI and half real. I'm sure Snyder is using the same effect. He mentions that the cape is its own character and such, so CGI on some scenes to give a certain flow isn't a bad thing in my opinion.

No excuse for dodgy CGI though.

Also, can we kill the trope of Batman standing high atop a building, overlooking a metropolitan landscape? For someone who's trying to carve a new template for Batman, Snyder seems to be borrowing heavily imagery from Nolan's trilogy.

Actually, its a scene that resembles a panel from the dark knight returns ( which by now you have to know that its highly influenced this movie. ) Batman is holding a sniper rifle, which he uses to zip line from tower to tower

If anyone hasn't yet, I suggest reading the dark knight returns by frank miller, or watching the animated movie. Its one of the best batman stories.

So, obviously, this teaser has the misfortune of almost immediately following the pretty much universally-praised The Force Awakens teaser... but I still loved this first look at BvS and watched it more times in a row. Not because I liked it more or was more impressed (I do like it and I am impressed), but because I wanted to catch all the verbal details. Hearing Eisenberg, Affleck, and Irons (my god, Jeremy Irons' line readings are perfection) was in a weird way more exciting than seeing them. Eisenberg already sounds brilliantly demented/megalomaniacal, Irons may end up being my favorite Alfred (I'm including The Animated Series version), and Affleck's vitriolic "Tell me" probably gives me more wood than anything else. I will admit I was definitely surprised by the pitch-shifted voice, but again, the least altered, most recognizably Affleck bit I found to be the most badass.

I'm still damn psyched for the IMAX event on Monday (maybe even more so now), which is confirmed to have added shots and a bit of swag. (https://twitter.com/ZackSnyder/status/589198612074078208) Sweet!! :)

I don't know, we're what? 11 months from release day? All the CGI from this teaser will of course be improved significantly by next March. The quality-jump from the Comic-Con footage to this trailer alone was noticeable.

As for Bats overlooking the metropolitan landscape, I can forgive that considering all the ways they are carving something not yet seen on screen – elder/weathered Bats, his place in a world populated by superheroes/meta-humans, etc. Maybe that shot won't make it to the final cut. Didn't do much for me either.

This is kind of a silly thing to say and I'm not sure if I even believe it, but the thought crossed my mind, so here we go: it's possible that the exo-suit has some kind of retractable mouth guard (kind of a practical idea, no?). After all, that Batman line is voiceover and we never see Bruce/Bats' mouth move in the trailer. Again, kind of a silly thought, but maybe not...

Holly Hunter sounds a little peeved. What's her deal?
What the hell is going on with those soldiers with the Superman emblems?!
Do Wonder Woman and Aquaman deliberately emerge as "checks and balances" for Superman?

Me and my sister just got back from the teaser event and we had a great little mini-outing!

I handed in my print-out ticket at the box office and got a much nicer, card-stock ticket in exchange. We waited for 5 minutes and were allowed into the IMAX theater 30 min prior to showtime. It was a very solid turnout that appeared to be broken up by separate groups (but I'm not positive on that).

The tickets we were given were also our tickets to see the movie for free approximately a week early when it comes out next year. We just had to hand it in after the show with our email address written on the back. Awesome surprise!

http://s28.postimg.org/a8z2nyvx9/CDEy_QXt_VEAAWUGS.jpg

Anyway... at 7pm, a cute little rep intro'd the teaser, thanked us, and clarified that our individual tickets were indeed good for one person when the film opens. She asked us not to record the new teaser of course, and pointed to the security guard, Wayne, who would be watching us – Wayne got applause haha!

Zack Snyder then came on screen, standing in front of the Batmobile (which looked very sexy in broad daylight – the 'mobile, not Zack), and said thanks & asked us not to record. The teaser then played, and I was of course watching with baited breath for the 'few extra shots', which ultimately appeared in between the Batman/Superman emblem and the actual title.

The new shots were badass: they depicted Superman lifting his head, sprinting – then armored Batman sprinting – and them right about to collide in profile. It looked like Superman was flying over Bats when it cut. It may've been raining, too, even though it was more of an interior. This scene appeared to take place in the same dark, concrete location that Batman is standing in at 1:20 (https://youtu.be/IwfUnkBfdZ4?t=1m20s) It was great.

The crowd cheered generously, the teaser ended, then someone yelled "show it again!" Two seconds later, Zack Snyder came on the screen once more and said "Before we show it again..." haha! Snyder clarified that the footage of B + S in the rain was shot in IMAX – I should add that the clarity of that sequence on an IMAX screen was stunning, particularly the detail of the armored suit. He also clarified that the exclusive, new shots were shot in IMAX and they were beautiful, too.

The #BatmanvSuperman hashtag was then left on screen while we waited in line to hand in our tickets and receive our very slick, high quality posters. Overall, it was a blast, and there were some extremely worthwhile perks! Feeling very excited for this movie if that wasn't already obvious! Gonna be a tough wait for next March...

Funny that he said this during the RoboCop junket. During the original it was found out that the suit was made a little too small for Peter Weller to fit into but he still shot in it anyway.

If that is the case, speaking from experience as an alcoholic myself, Batman should have a beer belly issue and not an unkempt stubble issue.

Doomsday!! (http://www.cinemablend.com/m/new/Doomsday-Major-Villain-Batman-v-Superman-Dawn-Justice-71493.html)

I figured DC would eventually get around to playing the Doomsday card, but man this feels a little early in the game. He seems like a nemesis that should be worked up to over several films, not an “out of the gate” villain. Plus the original origins story for Doomsday doesn’t need to be tinkered with at all, just keep it as is.

Official synopsis and a lot of other info and pics are being revealed today.

Batmobile pics and specs (http://geektyrant.com/news/take-a-look-inside-the-batmobile-from-batman-v-superman)

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

New trailer shown today apparently included a lot of Wonder Woman as well. And we have some plot points confirmed. Spoilery I guess, but most of it already known...about time to go dark on this I think lol. Luthor recovers Zod's body, creates Kryptonite. Bryce Wayne was present during the MOS battle, main cause for battling Superman.

An alright trailer. I had no real complaints. Wonder Woman still didn't make any sense to anything in the trailer and just felt like she was slapped in there because they felt like showing her off? I'm sure her role in the film will be more significant but honestly nothing substantial where she needed to be in it. I'm still baffled by the inclusion of every Justice League member in this film. The last few moments sure, they create JL but that's all I could see for them and her. Whatever. Find out next year or with more info that isn't the same shit I've been told or read several times over.

Not sold on Luthor at all, maybe i still just don't like Jesse Eisenberg that much.... it's the cadence in his voice or something, sounding like he's hopped up on Red Bull all the time. Worked for Mark Zuckerberg but just not getting a good vibe from the trailer.

I like that they're having Bruce Wayne be in Metropolis during Zod's attack. It gives him a much more concrete reason to hold a grudge against Superman.

I'm also glad we got to see the extended cast (both returning from MOS and new for BvS) and some footage of Wonder Woman in action. I loved Amy Adams as Lois Lane in MOS, and I'm excited to see her and Laurence Fishburne's Perry White again; I'm also curious about Jeremy Irons's portrayal of Alfred.

I'm still not yet sold on Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, but I remain cautiously optimistic and will reserve judgement until I actually see the film.

Bring on 2016!

It's not Batman unless there's a reference. I'll agree that it looks like Zack getting his buddy, Jeff, into the movie as Thomas Wayne and nothing more. Also, people complaining about seeing the murder of Thomas and Martha has become about as played out as it showing up everywhere as well. They cancel each other out.

Holy fuck holy fuck holy fuck holy fuck! Sorry. This just got me excited even as someone who's a little tired of super hero shit. I'm also admittedly a major Batman fanboy so seeing him go at it against Superman really has me giddy as a school girl. I do like what I see as Affleck's portrayal of Wayne so far. I love that they made it so that he was there in Metropolis during the final battle of MoS. I know some critics of the film bitched about how excessively destructive it seemed so I see that as a good factor for Bruce's grudge against Superman. To me, just this trailer shit's on like 85% of what Marvel has been regurgitating in recent years. I like Eisenburg's (spelling?) portrayal of Luthor. Even more excited for the solo B-man film directed by Ben since I find him to be a way better director than an actor. My only complaint is the actress they picked for WW but it doesn't bother me as much as it does most other chuckleheads. Yes, I'm calling myself a chucklehead as well. Now I'm going to end this since I feel like I am just rambling from my excitement and slight drunkeness. Fuck why do we have to wait for next year for this?!

I'm still not 100% sold on this, but like I said before Affleck seems like THE batman everyone has been waiting for. At least his Bruce Wayne persona is way more true to the comics and animated series' than any other actor before. And I just love how massive he is, yet when you see him use that grapple hook he moves like Batman should. I'm really digging this style.

What I don't like is that some scenes with Superman look overly CGI and over-the-top while Wonder Woman... dear lord, I hope this movie is not too crammed with Superheroes and cameos. The focus should be on Bats and Superman all along.

Affleck directing his own Batman movie sounds very good at this moment. I really hope to see a gritty yet fantastical Batman movie some day with one or two of the more surreal Batman villains like Clayface or a proper Mr Freeze.

Great teaser trailer but can't superman see through his mask anyway?
Unless this version of superman doesn't have x-ray vision?

This Superman has x-ray vision – see: young Clark in class freaking out as he sees the musculature/skeleton of his teacher in Man of Steel.

Seems to makes sense that Supes would do what he does in that scene, though: 1.) He doesn't reveal an additional power to Bats (which would only help his case that Superman is an unchecked God), and 2.) It's a bit of power move, i.e. "I want you to know that I know."

ziltoid

That actually makes a lot of sense.

I've tried to keep my expectations in check for this move and try to approach it in a nonchalant way.
I'm having a hard time of letting go of the Nolanverse batman and I can't figure out why.
I think its because the Batman trilogy, even with its flaws, was close to the Batman Animated series in spirit.
The Animated series were essential to me while growing up and laid the road for me to discover great comics with fantastic stories like, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, The killing joke, Year one etc.
There's just something missing from what they have shown so far and I can't explain it.
Hopefully when the movie is released all of those feelings will subside and let me enjoy the film.

Even though I should be amped up and excited for this movie all I really am is just curious if its going to be good.
I can't help but watch all the teasers and trailers they have shown so far and I can't shake the feeling that there is a chance that they might taint the legacy of Batman just like the movie Batman Forever did.

My soul is smiling right now

Since I was a little kid I've always wanted this. I've almost always been more a DC person and the way people have felt about Marvel movies and all that excitement's how I guess I feel with this. I'm sure people are just bitching relentlessly somewhere but I don't even care. Affleck is already seeming like the best Batman. I'm starting to think Henry Cavill was grown in a lab to play Superman. I can't believe I'm going to get to see the Justice League fight Doomsday. I've not been this excited about anything like this in so long. It's great that this trailer shows off some of the more humorous scenes since so many bitch how "Oh it looks so super-dark," this is a good way of curbing that. Holy shit I feel like such a child I just can't wait to see the most iconic duo in comics brought to life finally. I remember when fucking I Am Legend teased a Batman/Superman movie poster and I was so frustrated knowing it was a dirty lie.

Also, not to be a trailer snob, but could you have picked cornier clichéd music for that?

I was a bit underwhelmed by the trailer. Doomsday looked like the usual crappy CGI.

Yup. For every cool moment in that trailer, there was a shot apparently rendered entirely in Unreal Engine, or a goofy Luthor (Goofor?). I'm now expecting it to be as much of a CG action bloatfest as Man of Steel - there were plenty of cool moments in the trailer for that film too. :/

Soo, they pretty much ruin a major plot point with all of them having to team up at the end?? Why? That CGI... could they have made it look any worse? Man, I had high hopes for this until I saw this trailer. It looks like it is all over the place.

Doomsday looks like Abomination.

Aside from Wonder Woman, this trailer was laughably bad, like MST3K level bad.

I'm (still) pretty excited for this. The new trailer shows WAY too much (even though EVERYONE knew Batman and Superman would team up in the end), and Doomsday DOES look like Abomination. GG does look good as Wonder Woman, though. I also liked the banter between Bruce/Clark.

While I am still excited, I can see why others would find this to be horrible.

Warner: We have high hopes for this film.
Me: So did I.

Wake me up when Civil War gets here.

This disappoints me since Batman has always been my favorite superhero hands down.

Unfortunately, DC is just incapable of making a decent film apparently.

I know the movie isn't out yet. This trailer just doesn't instill much confidence.

The point about the "humor" is stupid, this is how they interact in the comics and animated movies. And he or she calls themselves a DC fan.

Fuck that haters, this movie looks awesome.

Honestly, I think Ben Affleck looks fine as Bruce Wayne/Batman, but all the other ideas they seem to be having going on, like Lex being overly quirky, isn't working for me. Sad thing is if this fails, it'll most likely derail Ben Affleck's Batman movie he was gonna make.

edit: And apparently after reading online for a little bit, there's speculation that Jesse Eisenberg based his portrayal of Lex on Max Landis, which now I think about, is on the money. Even Max Landis himself has noticed it.
