International Space Station astronaut Terry Virts (@AstroTerry) tweeted this image of a Vulcan hand salute from orbit as a tribute to actor Leonard Nimoy, who died on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015.

Nimoy played science officer Mr. Spock in the Star Trek series that served as an inspiration to generations of scientists, engineers and sci-fi fans around the world.

Cape Cod and Boston, Massachusetts, Nimoy's home town, are visible through the station window.

The Maysles brothers are geniuses. Grey Gardens is getting a limited theatrical re-release. Damn. I also enjoyed the making-of doc that they did on The Life Aquatic of Steve Zissou though it was quite overwhelming to watch at times due to how big the production was.

I remember reading a rumor that he was going to score The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo before the announcement made by you-know-who did. And as much as I love that score, it would have been interesting to see what he could have done with it.

I would have loved that too.

It's been confirmed by Variety (http://variety.com/2015/film/news/james-horner-dead-1201525804/)

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the news...

thevoid99
06-23-2015, 12:39 AM
While I think he was overrated at times and didn't take too kindly over his score The New World wasn't used in the final film as he took shots at Malick. He is still a damn fine composer for his work with James Cameron. He will be missed.

Jinsai
06-23-2015, 12:45 AM
It's sad that he's died... I was never really a big fan of his style, especially for the films that he's best known for. Still, he had a really unique and immediately recognizable signature sound. You knew it was a James Horner soundtrack within seconds, and even though he inspired a bunch of other composers to rip him off, you could always tell it wasn't him. His central motifs were catchy as hell, and his instrumentation was really a hallmark. His music owned the films that he scored, and he was scoring so many huge movies... Now that he's gone, a lot of films that would have featured his trademark sound will be different experiences, and that's an interesting (and somber) thing to consider.

People often underestimate how important a soundtrack is to a film. It informs you emotionally how to process the narrative, and it plays with your expectations. A lot of the time, a soundtrack is actually the key element that really sets the terror or gets you to tear up. It's usually seen as something more behind the scenes, but I've always had huge respect for the kings of the soundtrack world. Maybe there's some times when I could have personally asked for a little less pan flutes, but my opinion doesn't matter, and he was a legend.

See Article 2 Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution.

[The President] shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, judges of the Supreme Court, and all other officers of the United States, whose appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by law: but the Congress may by law vest the appointment of such inferior officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the courts of law, or in the heads of departments.

The President makes a nomination and a Senate committee confirms or rejects the President's nomination.

I feel a little bad as I've just started getting into their music, but they've been a name I've been familiar with for awhile now because of the circles they run in. Steven Wilson posted something nice on his Facebook about him. Their last album Love, Fear and the Time Machine is really solid.

I was watching TV and it said breaking news, Star Wars actor found dead. It turns out that one I posted was actually an old fake news story. The right one is this:

I guess it hasn't been mentioned that Pat Conroy, author of The Prince of Tides and The Great Santini, has died from pancreatic cancer.

I actually really liked his books, especially the above-mentioned and The Lords of Discipline.

I guess God realizes he needed a keyboardist for his mega-band that is to produced by George Martin. Still, this is a bummer even though I sort of have a love-hate relationship for Emerson, Lake, & Palmer.

Dave Kilminster is on tour with Steven Wilson. He also was in Keith Emerson's solo band, and upon the news of his death Dave was very emotional about the news. He shared this (https://www.facebook.com/davekilminster/photos/a.10150343097445861.390786.35957535860/10153840110740861/?type=3&theater) picture on Facebook from his last gig with SW in Mexico, which I found very cool.

Edit:

I just needed to add this as my local traffic reporter did a little nice tribute to Phife Dawg. Seriously, mad respect for this guy:
