Sam Raimi is behind the upcoming Poltergeist remake which is coming out this year. Its expected to be somewhat of an Art house remake.

The original directed by Steven Spielberg and Tobe Hooper is the definition of an 80s fantasy classic. It's been constantly parodied so many times in popular culture over the years. I always saw the original as a commercial Art House film, the visual effects were absolutely mind blowing for 1982, and the lighting and use of strobes was deeply atmospheric. And it was all so bizarre, the use of the weird fetul goo in the bath, the guy ripping off his face, the moving meat, that creepy psychic Tangina, there was some sort of comment on native Indians getting their revenge, the imploding house, the vortexes, the rape on the ceiling, the skeletons in the pool, that fucking clown that traumatized millions.
Im usually against remakes but i feel there is a lot of use here in a very creative way, and they have Sam Rockwell in it too and a great team behind it.
With the original there was a real duel between the directors, you can see the parts of the film which were Tobe Hooper (pure horror) and the parts which were Steven Spielberg (warmer fantasy), so it will be interesting to see what this new guy brings to it.
Lets hope nobody in the cast dies this time as half the fucking cast dropped dead back in the 80s, all very weird.
