This is really sad. I liked him in everything I've seen him. And apparently, he was such a nice person too. I've read somewhere (and I believe it was his manager who said it) that when fans were meeting him, most of them didn't really want an autograph; they wanted a hug. I have no trouble believing that.

For any NFL Football fans, here, Steve Sabol died today of brain cancer. Sabol and his father created "NFL Films" and preserved pretty much every major NFL player who ever played in the modern era via their films. Without the Sabols, I would never know how great a Gale Sayers run was or be able to witness a Johnny Unitas TD. RIP.

Heartbroken over this. When I was living with my grandparents in middle school and at home throughout high school, I would record the NFL Films presents on ESPN 2 so I could watch them after school. Steve could make you cry and feel the emotion from the story, or he could make you laugh with whatever he was profiling with a player. He had a gift for storytelling and is as big as any reason why I'm the NFL fan I am today.

Godspeed Steve Sabol.

I agree with both of of you , Kid and Ruined. Those films are brilliant and most importantly they preserved the history of the sport for future generations to enjoy and continue to do so. I always have and will continue to enjoy the amazing product NFL Films has produced they made the sport really come to life. Rest in Peace Steve Sabol

HAHAHAHA! I would love to say that I saw this coming (given what a legendary asshole Mike Love is), but this is beyond even what I thought he was capable of.

After what he did to the Smile recordings, and his famous "this is an hour of Brian's madness, somebody get me a dildo" comment, I don't understand how anyone had any lingering respect for this guy. Brian Wilson is the genius behind the Beach Boys. Mike Love always was (and apparently always will be) a dick. I don't know how the guy lives with himself.

I think "leave of absence" is PR spin to be honest. Sesame st couldn't keep him as an active cast member in the wake of these allegations.

And, even if he didn't technically break the law, a lot of people are going to have an issue with a man in his 50s hooking up with an 18 year old boy... especially when this scandal involves a children's show (and American institution). It may be a set up, but I don't see him ever coming back.

Sesame Street publicly stated that they stand fully behind him, since Kevin Clash (Elmo) firmly states this is total bullshit.

eeeeww how horrifying, ever since the Jimmy Saville story broke there seems to be this massive Sexual Abuse overload in the UK media at the moment. If anyone is familiar with the Chris Morris show Brass Eye its almost getting as bad as the way they parodied the media in that infamous peadophillia episode back then.

This dude from Lost Prophets is by far the most shocking story. I find it hard to believe someone set him up in this instance judging by the amount of charges he is being held up against, im getting the vibe they have some pretty hard evidence on him. He has been charged. How on earth did they know he was trying to rape a one year old? How do they get that type of information? Why did he have 40 images of children being abused on his hardrive? He had apparently been trying to have sex with more girls under the age of 13 too... It all seems a bit too elaborate for someone with a huge vendetta against him to set up.

If he is found guilty then its over for him. I always find it ultra disturbing how people can totally loose track of reality and sink to these depths of depravity and how well people can disguise their sick side. He is in a sweet little boyband pop-metal group! Its shocking.

Every time I read any of the news reports about these things lately my nerves stops me from thinking about the direct issues cognitively, but by effect I wonder if at any point the media/advertising/business at large will wake up to what they've contributed to the sexualisation of children. Between Britney Spears licking her lips in a school uniform, the countdown to Charlotte Church and Emma Watson turning 16, and thongs for kids in single figures.

Like with all sensationalist bullshit we're drowning in, I think this is more about us still having creepy primitive urges that even we're starting to forget about, rather than media selling us something we don't want.

“I can’t cry. I’ve got makeup on.” Profound stuff - the article almost humanizes Lohan's prima donna antics (almost being the key word.)

I'm a fan of Bret Easton Ellis and enjoyed some of Paul Schrader's early stuff, but there's no way anyone could be excited for that film after reading the article.

I've read this a few times already. Wow... talk about a disaster in the making. Poor Paul Schraeder though. The man who Taxi Driver and directed such films like American Gigolo, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, Affliction, Auto Focus, and Light of Day (that featured a young TR) loses his mind when he works with a completely delusional and out-of-control has-been.

Then, as Lohan looked on uncomfortably, Heller brought up the fact that he was from New York and that he had heard the judge too was a New York native and had worked as a detective. “It is a great honor to appear before you,” Heller began – to which she cut him off. “Flattery doesn’t get you anywhere,” Sautner replied.

For anyone following the Lohan madness. She decided to swtich rehab facility without advising the DA or the Court. This morning in Court, her attorney told the judge Lindsay had checked it Morningside Recovery in Newport Beach instead of the in NY because they would't let her smoke.

While her lawyer was telling that she had checked in and that Morningside and that it was offering the same program as the facility in NY and therefore DA/Court should simply agree, well TMZ found out that Morningside had its licensed revoke recently and therefore could not provide any form of treatments whatsoever.

Also, Linsday has not checked in yet.
Basically, her lawyer lied to the Judge.

Freaky Friday, Mean Girls.
She had a premising career but unfortunately, substance abuse got the best of her.

So ... yesterday she fired her lawyer. Hired Shawn Holley back. That lawyer worked miracles for her.
She will have to once more because she has 12 hours to check-in a rehab facility or prosecutors will go to Court for an arrest warrant.

Extremely expensive and worrisome. Honestly, in her shoes I'd make basically the same decision and may do the same thing one day if I can afford it. Why wouldn't you take a test that can save your life? She was basically told she had a 9/10 chance of getting breast cancer. So, time bomb on your chest, but why don't you just check it every month to make sure it doesn't go off?

I think she set a really important example by doing this and then talking about it. She didn't have to share it.

no, but considering some of the movies that she's most famous for, she tends to be chosen for her sex appeal. i'm sure at this point she's done enough movies that she can pick and choose the roles she wants to play a bit more freely, but studio execs tend to see things in dollars and cents and they don't often consider the impact some of their decisions have on who plays in their movies. CGI breasts would be ridiculous, sure, but can you really say that some studio might not suggest it? I don't know. i'm really just musing.

correct me if i'm wrong (i'm no expert on her film roles), but since she's become more hollywood royalty, has she even done a nude scene? those movies you claim she's famous for came out in the 90s/early 2000s. beowulf doesn't count as that was CGI heavy to begin with.

i can't believe there's a debate about someone's personal health choices vs. what their tits look like.

it just seems like a non-issue that you keep bringing up. she can live a longer, happier life with her kids and her partner and continue with her humanitarian work, which i'm sure is the priority for her. she's earned her stripes, so i don't think this will have much impact on her career should she want to get back into acting, especially since she should look about the same, according to her words on the matter.

honestly, @icklekitty (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=47) and @allegro (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=76) nailed it on applegate, bates, rancic, etc. if you want to play the sex appeal card, applegate still looks amazing. i agree that hollywood is shallow atimes (moreso based on what us as consumers expect of our leading ladies). honestly, i'd be fine if this pushed jolie back into doing grittier, more interesting roles like like girl interrupted, etc. not that i love that flick per se, but that premise to me is more interesting than typecasting her as the sultry action star.

marodi
05-15-2013, 11:57 AM
I can't find the article now, just because I'm looking for it (story of my life that) but I've read somewhere yesterday that as far as her career is concerned, the only impact this could have had is that she may had become uninsurable when signing up for a movie after learning she could develop a life-threatening condition.

From what I understand about the procedure she has had, it was like emptying an egg through a little hole (like you do when you paint them for Easter). The doctors removed the tissues that were problematic, leaving the breast as an empty sac and them they filled it up again with an implant. We won't be able to tell the difference.

This is why her decision to speak up about this is so remarkable: she went through all the procedures without anyone finding out about it so she could have kept silent about it. Instead, she chose to share her experience in order to raise awareness and in the hope to help other women.

Kudos to her and I wish her a long and happy life with her family.

to be honest, Demogorgon is touching (perhaps inadvertently) on why this is such a big deal. Regardless of whether we want to accept it or not, part of what makes the surgery such an issue here is that her tabloid relevance and status as a sex symbol are hallmarks of modern American culture. If Brad Pitt burnt Angelina's toast while cooking her breakfast, it was on the cover of all those newspapers you see while checking out at the grocery store. And yeah, she is commonly thought of as a sex symbol. She was listed off in that stupid "We Saw Your Boobs" song Seth MacFarlane sang at the Oscars.

But that's why it's a big deal for her to come out and be so open and frank about the surgery. A lot of people (like Demogorgon) were previously unaware that a woman could have a mastectomy and not have it be a startling disfigurement. Now, because of this news story, he knows differently. Maybe this will have the same effect on public awareness that Magic Johnson had with regards to AIDS/HIV awareness. Before he contracted the HIV virus, the popular contention was "well, I'm not gay, so I'm not at risk." Maybe if people can see Angelina Jolie openly discuss her mastectomy, along with her reason for it, it might not only raise breast cancer awareness, but alert the popular opinion that a woman who has had a mastectomy can still be sexy and no less of a woman.

frankie teardrop
05-15-2013, 01:21 PM
well said. i merely felt that Demogorgon was unnecessarily pushing the hypothetical issue about this procedure costing her film roles, given that she likely won't look much different when all is said and done so it really shouldn't make a difference. perhaps i misinterpreted that a bit, but overall everything about this, outside of having the cancer-giving gene in the first place, is positive and quite possibly a tremendous step forward in awareness and public perception of sexuality.

I didn't think - even for a FRACTION OF A SECOND - "gee, I wonder what this will do to her career."

The ONLY thing I thought - as a female, with breasts - is "Jesus Christ, that sounds horrible and painful. "

I watched Lori on SYTTD Atlanta go through this on TV and I was CRYING -- like, 300 tissues crying -- thinking "OMG WHAT A FUCKED UP DECISION THAT MUST BE, PRE OR DURING CANCER!!" (http://www.channelguidemagblog.com/index.php/2012/10/15/say-yes-to-the-dress-breast-cancer-special/)

One of my childhood friends had breast cancer twice by the time she was in her 40s so she HAD to have a double radical reconstructive mastectomy, which is what ^^ Lori had, and is more typical than what Jolie did: First, they remove lots of muscles from your back, then - during the same surgery - they flip you over and remove the contents of your breasts and some lymph nodes, and then they use fat and muscle tissue from your own body to reconstruct your breasts ... all in one surgery! The recovery is HORRENDOUS. But, your life expectancy is WAY better and my friend said she ended up with BETTER boobs. One of the worst parts was that they removed her nipples and then put them back ON, later (I think it was tattoos). Ow ow ow ow ow. Which Jolie's surgery avoided.
