here's my music, all available for free streaming and pay-what-you-want: salmanbakht.bandcamp.com (http://salmanbakht.bandcamp.com) .
the theme in most of my work is the use of audio recordings to represent various processes and environments. most of it probably fits best in the experimental music (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experimental_music) category. also, it tends to be fairly slow and does not aim to fill one's attention or be immersive, so it has a lot in common with Brian Eno's definition of ambient music (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambient_music) (although it doesn't really sound like Eno's music).
maybe it's best to just click around and see what interests you, but here's a brief description of the albums to get you started:
- Pluton Intermission (http://salmanbakht.bandcamp.com/album/pluton-intermission-cycle-24-27-32): mostly sine tones and filtered noise, mostly drone. a study of a very simple musical scale.
- loudspeaker, air vent, light bulb (http://salmanbakht.bandcamp.com/album/loudspeaker-air-vent-light-bulb-field-recordings): even more drones but based on field recordings. i wouldn't start here.
- Dérive/Dérivé (http://salmanbakht.bandcamp.com/album/d-rive): a collection of works based on the modification of recordings from various sources (radio, poetry reading, musical recordings). the most variety and mostly shorter pieces, so probably a good place to start if you don't know what you're getting into.
- Circumaural (http://salmanbakht.bandcamp.com/album/circumaural): another collection of works. more related to what i'm most interests me about music, but also a bit more serious.
- Cedarwood, Gray (http://salmanbakht.bandcamp.com/album/cedarwood-gray) and Twentysecond, Swift (http://salmanbakht.bandcamp.com/album/twentysecond-swift): two multi-movement works based on recordings of mandolin improvisation. really happy with how Twentysecond, Swift turned out.
let me know if you get a chance to listen, and feel free to ask about anything about the concepts or process. and don't feel bad about downloading for free. i only ask that if you do, you take the time to listen to it and let me know that you did.
