The Prodigy have been working on a new album since 2010 and so far they've played 4 new songs live that they have been working on. Unfortunately there is no release date yet. The new album is going to be called: How To Steal A Jetfighter.

I’m glad they decided not to go the dub step route and do their own thing.

Sounds like it's gonna be intense as fuck, I can't wait it for it.

Just a heads up...

Yes.. Rockweiler, Jetfighter, and Dogbite were real songs played live

BUT...
these videos contain fan remakes/re-edits of the live performances.

AWOL video is a complete fan recreation with some bits/samples from live performance
same with that Dogbite video, complete fan recreation

Jetfighter and Rockweiler are re-edits from live shows.

The Prodigy are literally my favorite band ever, so I know a lot of info if you need to know anything about their new album or any of their releases. Been listening to them since the 4th grade. I'm part of the bigger Prodigy fan communities, such as www.brainkiller.it (http://www.brainkiller.it), www.theprodigyfanboy.com (http://www.theprodigyfanboy.com), www.theprodigy.ru (http://www.theprodigy.ru), etc., and these have been making the rounds. A lot of fans are also producers and try to recreate the newer jams/song they play live. Sadly, without proper tagging, they get passed along and confused as actual songs. They take bits from all of these recorded performances or simply try to recreate by ear what they hear.

There was a recent live show from Exit Festival with most of their set broadcasted online except for the last 2-3 tracks.
Rockweiler was the newest track played and the most promising... sounds pretty complete with Maxim and Keith on the mic.
While the rest were more like jams/ideas being tested out... next up as most promising was Jetfighter, samples a System Of Down track and has Keith reusing some old live lyrics from back in the day. AWOL is another Keith led track and has been played for a little bit now and actually had 2 different versions... a more rocky one which is what they usually play as well as a more electro beat one. They have this new distorted bass beat jam simply titled Beats from the setlists that sounds raw and promising. Dogbite used to be in the latest sets, but has since been dropped... it had two versions as well, one with dubstep wobbles and one without with dueling vocals from Maxim and Keith. And another track played once was called The Day featuring vocals from Martina Topley-Bird. But everything sounds more like works in progress. Gonna hunt down the videos of the actual tracks being played for y'all.

But yes, the album is tentatively titled How To Steal A Jetfighter and is suppose to come out sometime in 2014.
Though the title was announced a couple of years ago and short jams have been making their ways into the sets.

The Exit Festival online broadcast was pretty damn good quality and you got to hear new stuff like Jetfighter, AWOL, Rockweiler, and Beats in great quality, but the recordings of the show keep getting pulled down since apparently The Prodigy's set wasn't suppose to be broadcasted. So whenever people post the recording on YouTube, it gets taken right down. Luckily, I was able to grab a recording. If anyone is interested in getting it, PM me and I can shoot you a link through my Dropbox. I have a copy of the performance in 320kbps with the opening track Voodoo People missing (taper missed first track) and toward the end of the set Their Law, Hyperspeed, and Out Of Space are missing due to The Prodigy starting later than planned and the live streaming was cut off after Gun Reprise interlude. But at least you get to hear the new stuff in good quality plus reworked tracks like Thunder Dub and Spitfast (aka Spitfire remixed)

Thunder Dub
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0_ix3nuSFo

Spitfast
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u295D-Qn8uM

Gun Reprise is actually a cut track from the Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned era. On the hidden AONO Demo reel on the Their Law DVD, it originally was the opening part of the track Shoot Down until it was separated on its own. This was played live only once in Osaka back in 2004 and now back in the live sets.)

Like I said, I'm full with a ton of useless Prodigy trivia/info :)

I grew up on these guys.

I feel that FOTL was their Black Album. In retrospect it was an excellent album but a beginning of the end as far as certain aspects of their sound went.

I guess I am one of those MFJG guys that thinks that album was perfection and nothing else has really matched it.

A few of the new songs are sounding pretty cool. I really prefer when they stick to a dance floor sound as opposed to a rock/pop format.

I always enjoyed these

I started to listen The Prodigy back in '93-94 going back to their first album "Experience."
I love all of their albums, especially since each is so different from each other style-wise.
But "The Fat Of The Land" is actually my favorite, I fucking love that album... it's just so powerful.
And that's coming from a fan since pretty much the beginning.
Sure, I played it to death after all of these years... but that album truly inspired me to become an electronic music producer.
Don't get me wrong, I love "Music For The Jilted Generation," but the one thing that bothers me is the length of some tracks on it.
I prefer the single or live edits Liam did, make the tracks more powerful and direct.
If there was a version of "Jilted" with edited down versions, then yeah it could probably take the top spot from "The Fat Of The Land."
I love "Break And Enter (2005 Live Edit)" from the bonus of the re-release "More Music From The Jilted Generation."
My least favorite album would have to be "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned."
It's not that it is a bad album... just not as good as their other albums. It's 50/50... great tracks and filler.
I think if they waited a little longer to release it, it could have been a much more solid album because a lot of the tracks that were reworked after they started touring again were so much better than the album mixes. For example, "Spitfire ('05 Version)" on the single or "Under My Wheels (Remix)" on the bonus disc to "Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005" are 100x better than the album versions. Also, the double disc version of the "Their Law" is a great collection for any fan. The first disc is, of course, the collected singles, but includes new 2005 mixes of "Their Law" and "Voodoo People" along with the better versions of "Spitfire" and "Poison ('95 EQ)" and the full version of "One Love." Plus the bonus disc has some gems are there, including the cut tracks "Razor and "Back 2 Skool" from "AONO," "Molotov Bitch" from the "Firestarter" single, a faster mix of the Tom Morello collab track "No Man Army," along with Prodigy's remix of the Chemical Brothers remix of "Voodoo People" titled "Voodoo Beats," and a bunch of other goodies. Definitely a great collection of old and new.
And I love "Invaders Must Die," it was a great return to form energy-wise after "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned."
"Invaders Must Die" is actually my second favorite album followed by "Jilted," then "Experience," and "AONO" closing it out.
But like I said, I can listen to all of their albums... and don't get me going on their b-sides... they got great albums... and even greater b-sides.
Some of these tracks are definitive Prodigy tracks, but not actually on any album.
For example, "Rhythm Of Life" and "We Eat Rhythm" from the "Jilted" era...
"The Big Gundown" (known as "Comanche" live) and "Mescaline" from "Invaders Must Die" era.
There a ton of non-albums tracks, too many to go on and list. You just gotta go digging to find them.

They just played in Austria at the Fridge Festival...

The "World's On Fire" Live CD/DVD or CD/Blu-ray release was awesome... showcasing the first edition of their own Warrior's Dance Festival that they put on at Milton Keynes Bowl in the UK. It comes with the show along with bunch of vids taken during the "Invaders Tour."

I actually won a contest and me and my girl got to go to The Lodge studio in NYC for a private screening of the film with a small group of bloggers and journalists. It was pretty cool, the place was so upscale and plush. All comfy couches and decorative. Would love to mix and master an album there. :)

Here's a new rockier livemix that they did of the track "Colours" for it...

I recently re-discovered The Prodigy a while back. I bought "The Fat Of The Land" when it came out in 1997, but two years later it mysteriously vanished from my collection. But recently, I re-bought it as well as their previous two albums "Experience" and "Music For The Jilted Generation" (the latter is my favorite of their work). What makes them so great is that you don't need to be a fan of techno to like them. So many of their songs are such fun to listen to, and Liam is very creative with his sampling skills. You cannot go wrong with classic tunes like:

Out of Space
Charly
Everybody In The Place
Fire
One Love
No Good (Start The Dance)
Voodoo People
Poison
Break And Enter
Firestarter
Smack My Bitch Up
Funky Shit
and Baby's Got A Temper

And also....KEITH FLINT!

The prodigy rules. Check out their most recent album, invaders must die, if you haven't already. Very much a return to form after their previous album, which is good, but not nearly as great as their other albums.

I've also heard they've been working on a new album for a while so I'm looking forward to that.

I remember back in 97 when i got my first CD player, the first 3 CDs i bought were...
1 the fat of the land
2 311 (selftitled, flame me if you want)
3 downward spiral

So yea, me and these guys go way back. Breathe, Poison, Mindfields and the 3 Kilos suite are some of my favorite tracks of all time. The Weather Experience is another fav.

Always wishd i had the chance to see them live, but i think the closest they have ever come to me is denver.

"Music For The Jilted Generation" (my favorite of their work).
...
What makes them so great is that you don't need to be a fan of techno to like them.

Seconded, for both parts.
Prodigy was my favourite artist until I discovered Nine Inch Nails. The variety, depth and imagination is astonishing, and I have no idea how Liam creates 99% of their sounds.
Also got to love the dancing in their early videos, the warmup phase of my exercise routine is based solely on that.

huge fan of The Prodigy... they are my favorite group of all time actually... sorry NIN :P
love The Fat Of The Land... Jilted and Experience are great... thought Invaders Must Die was a return to form after the not so great Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned... don't get me wrong Always Outnumbered is better than most of the other crap out there, just not as good compared to Prodigy standards ;)

they are working on a new album with the working title "How To Steal A Jet Fighter"
a few new tracks/ideas that have been played "Rockweiler," "Jetfighter," "AWOL," & "Dogbite"
but Liam from the band said that they don't if they'll actually make it to the album, just a process they have to go through while writing and testing out ideas.
supposedly we may get the album possibly at the end of this year... but i'm guessing more like early 2015

anything you need to know about The Prodigy, i'm your guy... i've literally been a fan since '93, been following 'em for over 20 years.

speaking of unreleased stuff...

"Warning," a track written right around the release of Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned that Liam wished he had written in time to include on the album featuring Keith Flint on vocals. it was played live for a while. it was released on the Smoking Aces movie soundtrack without vocals as "First Warning." unfortunately not as good without the vocals, which they released it with Keith on it. hopefully we'll get an anniversary/expanded edition like we got with Experience and Music For The Jilted Generation albums with extra tunes.

"Shadow," another unreleased track from this era used in the game Project Gotham Racing 4...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-H9O0ogT5E

those of you that know the album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned... well there was several tracks that were written during 2001-2002, which would have been the original version of Always Outnumbered that was binned. If you know the track Baby's Got A Temper... that was meant to be the lead single. But it received some negative press and Liam binned what he had written to start all over. Always Outnumbered wouldn't finally be released until 2004. here's some of that cut material...

let's start off with the official Baby's Got A Temper video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFBPnZe_iMA

Trigger (Live At Coachella 2002) [originally with Maxim & Keith live on vocals, would be completely reworked and feature Liam & Noel Gallagher of Oasis and renamed "Shoot Down" on the official album. I think this original version is much better than what was released]

Little Goblin (Live at Coachella 2002) [a live, eerie little jam]

Baby's Got A Temper and Razor were originally tracks from Keith Flint's solo band FLINT that Liam reworked into Prodigy tracks. FLINT recorded an entire album called "Device 1" that was never released, which I have as well. I actually dug FLINT's album.

The Fat Of The Land era is definitely my favorite, so many great b-sides.

Love One Man Army (with Tom Morello from RATM) off the Spawn Soundtrack... Maxim's vocal on that track is killer.
There's an instrumental version of One Man Army called No Man Army with extra sounds featured on the Smack My Bitch Up single.

But on Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005 bonus disc they included No Man Army [Edit], which is actually slightly faster BPM-wise. Something as minor as a few BPMs faster really adds to the track and makes it better. Though I like One Man Army more with Maxim's vocals, I really dig the faster version from the Their Law compilation. If you watch the movie Spawn, the scene with One Man Army actually uses the faster version of the track but with Maxim's vocals over it. Man, I really wished we got that version because you get the best of both worlds: Maxim's rhymes and the faster BPM.

No Man Army (Edit) [faster version from Their Law compilation]

some more great non-album tracks from The Fat Of The Land era...

Molotov Bitch [taken from the Firestarter single, also available on the bonus disc to Their Law compilation]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvW6NjptPcA

The Trick [taken from the Breathe single]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfeMAcU4Y7E

Ghost Town [The Prodigy cover The Specials, there's actually 2 slightly different versions of this song... one where the faster part comes in a little quicker and lasts longer. taken from NME & War Child Presents 1 Love charity album & ID08 Independents Day 08, a compilation in support of independent music]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0dF8Fzp5II

Ghost Town was suppose to be part of The Fat Of The Land, but was left off because the trip hop artist Tricky released his own cover of the song around the same time. Also, the track Climbatize was originally structured differently and was suppose to feature Perry Farrell on vocals. He wanted The Prodigy to perform on his festival at the time but they couldn't commit due to conflicts in their schedule and needing to finish the album in time for the label. So he pretty much said, if you can't do the festival I can't do the song... kinda dick-ish. There was also another track never heard called Take Me On, which featured vocals from Skin of Skunk Anansie.

Here's the original beta version of the track Serial Thrilla when it was originally called Lyrical Terrorist performed live at Brixton in 1996...

Radio One hosted Legends Week back in 2005 where they had different artists/bands come to the Maida Vale studios to perform, which was broadcasted on the radio. They invited The Prodigy out and they put together this special set with the full live band and guests in the studio. These are pretty amazing and unique versions of classic Prodigy songs performed live.

They performed Voodoo People, Spitfire, Poison [Poison is with a beatboxer/flutist... yes, he plays the flute and beatboxes at the same time!], and a crazy mash up of Firestarter/Smack My Bitch Up [features Shahin Badar with them to perform her amazing vocal in the bridge of Smack My Bitch Up live!]. They also performed Hotride, but this was never broadcasted on the radio.

This is definitely a special one off performance from the band. The live recordings of Voodoo People and Poison are featured on the bonus disc of More Music For The Jilted Generation. Here's hoping some day we will get the other songs with their respective album's expanded edition. 2014 is the 10 year anniversary of Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. We got expanded versions of Experience and Jilted on their 10 year anniversaries, so fingers crossed we get on for Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned since there are lots of goodies that never officially got released from that era.

Anyway, here is the full Maida Vale performance...

This video shows how brilliant Liam is. It's one thing to find out the samples from the song and recreate it, but how Liam put all these sounds together to make an original song blows my mind.

for fans of their last album INVADERS MUST DIE, here are some alternate mixes/extra tracks from this era...

The official videos from the INVADERS MUST DIE era...
one thing I love about this band is that their single versions are usually different from their album mixes.
example: SPITFIRE ('05 Edit), the single mix, pisses all over the album version. This version is also included on THEIR LAW: THE SINGLES 1990-2005.

WARRIOR'S DANCE [edit/shorter version of album version. love this video, a nice homage... the real return of The Prodigy!}

An extra little goodie from the INVADERS MUST DIE era...

DESTROY THE MELODY (featuring WILEY) [this is a rare, unreleased collab track discovered on someone associated with the band's MySpace page]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5osn6wWQKo

THUNDER was also another planned single that was eventually scrapped. Liam was working on a new version of the track for the single as well. I'm guessing this is what became known as THUNDER DUB, the different mix that is still played live. A few remixes of THUNDER were featured on a joint promo for INVADERS MUST DIE/THUNDER and on the INVADERS MUST DIE CD single and vinyl. Really wished we got a studio version of THUNDER DUB, closest we get is the live CD/DVD or CD/Blu-Ray release WORLD'S ON FIRE.

For all my JILTED fans out there...July marks the 20th anniversary!

I know what you're thinking...
"DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!!!! T.W.E.N.T.Y. F$%KING YEARS?!?!?! 2 FOLLOWED BY A 0 YEARS?!?! I'M GETTING F#&KING OLD!!"
:D lol :D

Yes, MUSIC FOR THE JILTED GENERATION is about to turn 20...
Wish there was something special being done to celebrate the occasion... this album deserves the love and respect.
The Prodigy should perform Jilted in its entirety live (be the first for them to do something like that)... or an EVEN MORE JILTED FOR THE GENERATION expanded release with even more extra tracks than just the 9 tracks we got on the MORE JILTED FOR THE GENERATION release. EXPERIENCE: EXPANDED was a proper expanded release, it's second disc was packed out with a bunch of stuff and there's even MORE unreleased music from that era that wasn't included. And for the JILTED expanded edition... we only got 9 tracks with plenty of room to spare. They didn't even include RHYTHM OF LIFE, which, as a Prodigy fan, is just absolute frigging blasphemy. No RHYTHM OF LIFE?!?! Are you crazy?!?!?! One of the greatest Prodigy b-sides... strike that, greatest Prodigy tracks of all time... is LEFT OFF the bonus disc for JILTED. Ugh... TSK TSK TSK. Such a shame because I really wanted to hear it pumped and remastered.

In case you don't know the track that I am talking about...

RHYTHM OF LIFE (b-side from the ONE LOVE single)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfZp0TJK4j4

And how about some more unreleased tracks from the JILTED era, such as...

WE EAT RHYTHM (taken from the end credits of the ELECTRONIC PUNKS video tape)
youtube.com/watch?v=wEOeExwo1r8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEOeExwo1r8)

WE EAT RHYTHM [Original Mix] (taken from Select Magazine's compilation cassette
youtube.com/watch?v=ACzMTn5s-Aw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACzMTn5s-Aw)

And speaking of the ELECTRONIC PUNKS VHS, someone ripped and posted the full VHS broken down into 9 parts! 's YouTube page.

ELECTRONIC PUNKS [Part 1 of 9] (watch all 9 parts on Tino N.'s YouTube page) (http://www.youtube.com/user/Spitty84?feature=watch)
youtube.com/watch?v=5bmt9jTbSGI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bmt9jTbSGI)

Own this tape myself and love it! A great collection of official videos, clips behind the scenes making the videos, live performances, and a bunch of backstage/offstage funny shenanigans with the band. Check out all 9 parts. After the credits is a much more full on look at making the video for POISON. What's cool about this tape (especially for the old school Prodigy fans here) is that this before the release of the album THE FAT OF THE LAND... before anyone ever heard FIRESTARTER... before they rocked the STATES and became a global phenomenon. ELECTRONIC PUNKS is the beginning... when the band was rocking EXPERIENCE and MUSIC FOR THE JILTED GENERATION. Lots of great stuff from this era, especially unreleased tracks that they performed live only.

And I just discovered this decent live video recording of The Prodigy's performance at the Reading Festival from back in 1999. This show is a bit interesting with Keith sporting a completely shaved head with weird make up and some wild ass outfit. Maxim also calls out the Beastie Boys for phoning them up and trying to get them to stop performing SMACK MY BITCH UP... I love the Beastie Boys, but they were being a total hypocritical crybabies and especially for hip hop heads completely missed the real meaning behind the b-boy slang/term smack my bitch up. Maxim's response to their request to drop SMACK MY BITCH UP... "I do what the fuck I want." You rock, Maxim! Plus they perform a newer version of ROCK N' ROLL (not just a jam track anymore, turned into a full on unreleased song), VOODOO BEATS, and debut their cover of The Specials' GHOST TOWN live.

WTF, Keith? He's like Uncle Fester meets a vampire meets a jester meets Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Billy Corgan or some shit. This look of his didn't last that long... actually just this one show... wonder why lol.

neorev Thanks for the awesome post, that Electronic Punks brings me waaaaaaaaay back. I remember my friend Chris ordering it from our Disc Jockey in the mall, back in the day. Lol. No problem, SM Rollinger glad I can help share The Prodigy's music and find a fellow fan.
They have a ton of unreleased rarities and stuff spread across not so known mixes/compilations/releases/etc.
I miss the days going all over to record shops hunting every single release from them that I could get my hands on.
I first heard CHARLY and EVERYBODY IN THE PLACE on a best of rave compilation and started searching for their own releases. This was toward the end of 1993... so it was in between the release of EXPERIENCE and JILTED. It was cool because EXPERIENCE had plenty of singles/EPS... so I had fun hunting them all. Fucking love EXPERIENCE... then I picked up MUSIC FOR THE JILTED GENERATION. Put the CD in, the intro track comes on and then BREAK AND ENTER hits... OH MAN! Nothing beats hearing that for the first time. That beat hits... the glass shattering... fucking hell! Love the new 2005 mix included on the expanded JILTED remastered. But yeah man, those were the days collecting everything. Still got my ELECTRONIC PUNKS tape... they need to clean it up and re-release on DVD. They should have done something special for JILTED's 20th anniversary and include it as a bonus DVD.

But hey, I'm a happy guy if I can help someone discover something new that they may not have heard by them.
They have a pretty extensive catalog... both officially released and unreleased. Lots to take in. But even I still find new stuff to this day.

Like this live track FREQUENCIES that was only played a couple of times after the release of ALWAYS OUTNUMBERED, NEVER OUTGUNNED.
This was recorded at a show back in 2004 in Sweden and literally only just discovered a month or 2 ago... 10 years later and we're finally hearing something "new" for the first time. It's a pretty basic track/jam/idea... but I'm always eager to hear anything that they try out live. I hunt down everything.

how about some more rarities, eh???

Liam Howlett was working with Paul 'Dirt Candy' Jackson on a project that never came to be
Dirt Candy provided vocals on the track ACTION RADAR from The Prodigy's album ALWAYS OUTNUMBERED, NEVER OUTGUNNED

ADVICE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wESvZtSg-EQ

ADVICE would later be reworked into a full on instrumental Prodigy track known as DEAD KEN BEATS live. It was introduced into live sets during the ALWAYS OUTNUMBERED, NEVER OUTGUNNED and THEIR LAW tours in 2004-05 and even performed as late as the warehouse lead up shows for INVADERS MUST DIE in 2008. Liam mentioned MESCALINE and DEAD KEN BEATS as tracks they planned to release as b-sides to singles off INVADERS MUST DIE. MESCALINE was included with Liam's Re-Amped version of the INVADERS MUST DIE single, but DEAD KEN BEATS was never officially released. There was suppose to be another single for THUNDER that was scrapped, which could have possibly been the release that would have included DEAD KEN BEATS. We shall never know. For fans of The Prodigy, it's kind of a running thing known as Liam's broken promises... and there are lots of them.

Love this new version of EVERYBODY IN THE PLACE performed at The Prodigy's first ever Warrior's Dance Festival held at Milton Keynes Bowl in the UK.
Their performance from this show was recorded by over a dozen cameras and edited together for their WORLD'S ON FIRE live CD/DVD - CD/BLU-RAY release. And nothing beats the different live versions of tracks, such as THUNDER and COLOURS being completely reworked and alternate mixes of EVERYBODY IN THE PLACE, WEATHER EXPERIENCE, and INVADERS MUST DIE.All of the tracks are tweaked in the some way to make the live performance of them special and unique. This DVD/Blu-Ray is a must have for any Prodigy fan... it captures the energy and power of their live performance.

Exclusive: The Prodigy Signs With Warner Bros. Imprint Three Six Zero Music in the U.S.
http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/code/6221855/the-prodigy-label-warner-bros-three-six-zero-2014-cooking-vinyl

Three Six Zero Music will distribute the new record over here in the U.S. as well as an upcoming tour.
Maybe they'll actually have some presence here in the States with the new album, since Invaders Must Die didn't get much promotion over here.
I actually signed up to the street team and got a bunch of promo material to spread around. Still got some leftovers. Got my local record store to put up the poster of the cover on their wall promoting the upcoming release at the time.
I really wish The Prodigy would bring their Warrior's Dance Festival over here in the States, now that would be epic.
They started putting together their own festival back in 2009 in Japan... then they followed it up with one in 2010 at Milton Keynes (this was filmed and released as "World's On Fire" CD/DVD or Blu-ray) as well as Serbia and Brixton in 2012 and Australia and once again in Serbia for 2013.
The U.S. needs a proper festival put together by these guys, not the usual commercial electronic crapfests you see all over, their fests are usually pretty diverse style-wise.

Can't fucking wait for the new album, which they claim is coming out at the end of the year...

What was that video they did about ten years ago, where they're rocking out on the dairy farm, spraying the cow milk all over themselves? Weird song, but really great video.

Nothing sexier than a hot girl getting down to The Prodigy. :D
Sorry you didn't get to hit that shit, man. But still sounded like a fun night!

And that video is "Baby's Got A Temper"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBjXmX_JB4o

Back in 2001/2002, the band had written and recorded several tracks for what was to be their new album "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned" and "Baby's Got A Temper" was to be the lead single. But there was a big backlash with critics slamming the song claiming the band was trying too hard to be controversial since the main hook mentioned rohypnol, otherwise known as the date rape drug. Songwriter Keith Flint wrote the lyrics, perhaps autobiographical? The song isn't about date raping, but as Keith explained about partying around town and spending the night whacked out on uppers and how you would take rohypnol at the end of the night to bring you down. At the time, Keith had his own band that featured some of the live members of The Prodigy who were called FLINT. They recorded an entire album's worth of material titled "Device 1," which "Baby's Got A Temper" was one of the tracks off it. But the album was promo'ed without ever getting an official release. Some of the songs ended up becoming Prodigy tracks with Liam reworking them. Another one of these FLINT tracks to become a Prodigy track was "Razor" featured on the bonus disc to the "Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005" greatest hits compilation. The bonus disc also included another track from that era called "Back 2 Skool" that's pretty cool.

"Razor"
youtube.com/ (http://www.youtube.com/)watch?v=R9wz3kffGNQ
After the negative response to "Baby's Got A Temper," Liam scrapped what was written for "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned" and started over completely. So "Baby's Got A Temper" ended up being just a one off single, which sucks because the songs that they were debuting at the time were pretty cool sounding. The tracks were very vocal heavy. There was the track "Trigger," which featured Keith and Maxim battling on vocals, that was completely reworked into the inferior track "Shoot Down" on the album as well as another tune called "Nuclear," which parts were reused for "Action Radar."

Trigger
youtube.com/ (http://www.youtube.com/)watch?v=ls8b9PK9g2w

Nuclear
youtube.com/ (http://www.youtube.com/)watch?v=JJ9Zdp3oyjo

According to Liam, he didn't want to release a "Fat Of The Land" Part 2 and decided against having Maxim or Keith on the album at all. He wanted to bring the band back to its roots, which is the THE BEATS. To him, that was what they really were about. And if you think about it, their first two albums did not feature either Maxim or Keith... except for just one track "Poison" on "Music For The Jilted Generation." So in 2004, they finally released "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned" after a long 7 years since 1997's "The Fat Of The Land."

Even though it's a greatest hits collection, I really do recommend Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005 double disc version. The first disc includes all of the the better single mixes of tracks remastered, such as "Charly (Alley Cat Mix)," Everybody In The Place (Fairground Mix)," "Spitfire ('05 Version)" and Poison ('95 EQ) as well as new edits of "Their Law" and "Voodoo People" and the bonus disc contains a bunch of great b-sides, unreleased tracks, alternate mixes, and rarities. The remix version of "Under My Wheels" shits all over the album version, which I usually replace with the version from Their Law. The faster version of "No Man Army (Edit)" featuring Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine... though I wish they had included the vocal version with Maxim on it called "One Man Army" that was on the Spawn movie soundtrack. "Voodoo Beats," Liam's own reworking of Chemical Brothers' remix of "Voodoo People." The two "newer" unreleased Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned tracks "Razor" & "Back 2 Skool." There's just so much on this release for any newbie Prodigy fan to get the very best of the band as well as any hardcore fan to hear something new and different.

Apologies for my long story, but I hope that for some I helped educate them on the history of The Prodigy... yes, they are my favorite band of all time. I know A LOT about them as you can tell. Followed by Nine Inch Nails, of course (sorry to fellow NIN fans). There's an awesome biography out by Martin James, a long time friend of the group, simply titled "PRODIGY." He plans on releasing an updated version of the book after the release of the new album coming later this year/early next year.

By the way NYRexall... do you still got Tracy's number? :p
J/K my friend.P.S.
I have FLINT's "Device 1" in FLAC if anyone is interested... it's a raw punk album. I quite enjoyed it, don't understand why he couldn't get any backing from a label.
Also Maxim's "Hell's Kitchen" was pretty good as well.

I always thought that critics' biggest problem with Baby was that it's too similar to TFOTL

Yeah that was another thing critics mentioned... though I think "Baby's Got A Temper" was much more layered and quite interesting piece of music, especially if you listen to the instrumental version. but as a lead of single to usher in a new era, it just wasn't strong enough... didn't have that element of surprise that band is known to deliver with each new album. and obviously Liam felt the same way with the material at the time not really sounding like a progression rather just repeating what they had already done, which led him to binning it all.
The Prodigy always have a way of reinventing themselves with each new album era...
Look at Music From The Jilted Generation's lead single "One Love," a huge departure from the Experience era's rave hyper-breakbeats and pitched up vocals. Too bad Jilted uses the edited version of "One Love" and not the superior full length mix.
Then you had "Firestarter" bringing us into The Fat Of The Land... like NIN's "Closer," "Firestarter" was an insane sounding track to hear on commercial radio alongside all of the other bullshit being played.
Then "Girls" was released and showed a radical departure from their Fat Of The Land sound and took us into "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned" era.
Invaders Must Die's title track was given away as a little taste, but "Omen" was the official lead off single.

That's another thing great about this group, you gotta collect their singles because a lot times Liam makes newer/better reworkings of tracks.
Like the "Spitfire (05 Version)" shits all over the album version...
The single version of "Omen" has more breakbeats and extra sounds/fx's, while the album version is a more straight up rock beat...
The Re-Amped Version of "Invaders Must Die"
The "Poison ('95 EQ)" from the single.
I also love The Prodigy's remix of The Chemical Brothers' remix of "Voodoo People" called "Voodoo Beats" that they would play live back in The Fat Of The Land era, which be found on the bonus disc of the Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005 greatest hits and rarities compilation.

And let's not forget all of the great b-sides over the years... "Pandemonium," "Rhythm Of Life," "One Man Army," "Warning," "The Big Gundown," and many, many more.
The Fat Of The Land is definitely my favorite, followed by Invaders Must Die, then Music From The Jilted Generation, then Experience, and Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. Actually there really is no bad Prodigy album... just not as good when you are comparing them to each other. Their worst album still shits on a lot of the other electronic music out there. A new Prodigy record and a new Aphex Twin record in the same year?!?!?! A fucking dream fucking come fucking true... pardon my French.
plus Underworld reissuing their album "Dubnobasswithmyheadman" as 5 disc deluxe edition next month!!! hell yeah!

Oh man, I can't wait for the new Prodigy record! "Rockweiler" sounds fierce from the live vids. So psyched to see where Liam and co. takes us with the lead single, which I believe we're definitely getting this year... most likely fall I'm thinking like around October. Liam said that they had 8 tracks 100% finished while working on the rest, but they're claiming it is coming this year. It's cutting it pretty close I say.

I've been a fan since the 4th grade (around '93-'94) after I heard "Charly (Alley Cat Mix)" and "Everybody In The Place (Fairground Mix)" on a best of rave compilation. Then I heard their remix of Art Of Noise's "Instruments Of Darkness." My brother and I went out and collected every CD that we could get our hands on. This was during the end of the Experience era, so there was plenty of singles/EPs to get our hands on. Then I remember buying Music From The Jilted Generation... and man, oh man... that fucking album blew me way. When "Break And Enter" fucking kicks in! Oh god, that shit just hits you. I was so happy when I saw them in 2005 at the NYC stop of their Their Law tour... they did this awesome new reworking of "Break And Enter" as the opener! it was immense! Liam included it on the reissue of Jilted called More Music From The Jilted Generation.

That's it, you did it to me... now I gotta go listen to The Prodigy all day. Got the new mix of B&E blasting as I type this. Thanks a lot, guys! :p

ROCKWEILER (new track off the upcoming untitled album)
youtube.com/watch?v=6oLMVYTtXc8 <--- THAT riff that comes in at :23 seconds... just so sinister sounding.

Here is an early version of the tune played back in 2013 with a completely different riff for the verse.
I did enjoy this version when I first heard it, but the current 2014 mix with the new riff is just so sinister.
youtube.com/watch?v=15ljj4A7xxo

Originally the album was going to be called How To Steal a Jet Fighter, but they decided to go with a new name that hasn't been revealed yet. I know that they had a cover picked for inspiration to go with the title. But it looks like the theme and everything has changed with the new batch of material.

The new ideas that have been played live over the last 2-3 years: "Rockweiler," "Jetfighter," "Dogbite," "The Day Is My Enemy," "AWOL," & "Get Your Fight On"
"Rockweiler" was confirmed by Liam that it will be on the official album. "Get Your Fight On" is another likely album track that was slyly revealed in a image of Liam's set up/computer desktop where you can see an .aif file that said "Get Your Fight On - Album Version" that he posted on Instagram and social media. He also revealed a small bit of a track called "Medicine" on Facebook as well as him working on a track called "Destroy The Melody." "Destroy The Melody" was actually a track with rapper Wiley that leaked online a little while back that was written during the Invaders Must Die era but left off in the end since Liam didn't want any collabs on the new album, just an album showcasing the three main members of the band together. "AWOL" will apparently be a bonus track, but not sure if that means a b-side for a single or possibly an extra track from Japan or exclusive to certain way of purchasing the album. Invaders Must Die has a boxset version that included the album split on several 7" orange vinyls along with a poster, stencils, pins, along with the CD/DVD copy of the album and a bonus 4 track disc called Lost Beats EP. So hoping for another Lost Beats EP with the new album that will include these other little live jams/demos/leftovers. I'll totally purchase the boxset version!

i'm so excited. i remember in the 9th grade when i first heard fire (burning version) in an older friend's car. i was like WHAT...THE...FCK is this!? i thought it was the coolest thing i'd ever heard and bought every single i could get my hands on. that was 94, and i've been a prodigy nut ever since.

random prodigy memory: my crazy ass little brothe aztec made me listen to this NASTY remix called Rat Poison every day on the way to school.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evssZWsdsqc

it's not as bad now but it was RUFF on my fucking brain on the way to high school at 6 am lol.

I went and saw the prodigy in 97.

The best record, for me, is DEFINITELY experience expanded. i love their original sound. people are always calling music techno...i show them old prodigy and tell them THIS is techno.

and lol @neorev (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=584) , me to, i'm blasting prodigy now

wow doesn't that nasty ass riff on rockweiler sound like NIN?

See, i wish trent would tour with someone like the prodigy and not soundgarden. i like pear jam and aic and soundgardan and jane's addiction, but nin does NOT fit in with those bands just because they were around at the same time.

oh man, i would give anything to have seen them live in the mid-90's when they were in their prime.
The Prodigy and Nine Inch Nails were both in their prime live around the same time now that I think about it... 1994-1999.
That "Rockweiler" riff definitely has a dark NIN vibe, especially something off Hesitation Marks.
A tour with Nine Inch Nails and The Prodigy would be ridiculous... I honestly couldn't even manage what that would be like.
Nine Inch Nails end with the somber "Hurt" while The Prodigy kicks everything off with "Smack My Bitch Up" LOL. :p
I love Experience! Yeah I remember when electronic music was just that... techno.
Before all of these stupid genre names flooded the scene, before techno got hijacked to mean crappy 4 on the floor dance music.
Yeah I miss those days, man... miss 'em.
But Experience era was frigging great... so much music during this period. Like with all young bands with their first album, writing a ton of music.
My favorite track has got to be "Hyperspeed (G-Force Part 2)." "Jericho" is also great as well as "Ruff In The Jungle Bizness."
"Hyperspeed" was never really played live before, the original "G-Force (Part 1)" has been played back in the day... but NOT "Hyperspeed." WTF, Liam?
But this last year or so. They decided to switch up the usual closing track "Out Of Space" and have been rocking "Hyperspeed," so fucking epic!Dear Space Alien God Who May Or May Not Exist... please let me experience (no pun intended) "Hyperspeed" just once the next time that they perform live in NYC. Thank you Space Alien God Who May Or May Not Exist.

Here's a live video from their official YouTube channel...
http://youtu.be/23CRymy4cks?list=UU7IZbkKDd20v6Ni_vFX63rQ

I won a competition on their official site a few years back and I got to see a special screening of their World's On Fire live release with a bunch of bloggers and music journalists. The band wasn't there, but it was still pretty cool. It was at a studio called The Lodge in NYC. It was very fucking uber-plush/lush/tricked out place. They mastered Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned there. Neil McLellan is one of the owners of The Lodge, he's been working with The Prodigy behind the scenes since Jilted days. Liam had him fly over from the States to London to work on the new album.

Hey if you need anything or looking for particular track or rarity, just give me a shout... I got pretty much everything.

And if you're looking for a fan site/forum for The Prodigy that is the equivalent of what Echoing The Sound is for NIN...
http://www.brainkiller.it <--- based in Italy

I've been on that site for about 15 years... stumbled upon it around like 1999/2000.
If you wanna stay up to date on all of your Prodigy news as well as stay ahead in news and info... BK is the place to be.

I don't know about Echoing The Sound...

But with The Prodigy fan site Brainkiller, it was discovered that there were also a bunch of wannabe bedroom producers on the BK site. So in 2003, we held a little competition amongst these striving music makers inspired by The Prodigy. The first competition had 70+ entries with top 12 voted tracks will be featured on the downloadable compilation, which we called Music FROM The Jilted Generation. The first volume actually ended up being 13 tracks since there was a tie for the twelfth and final spot. There were another three volumes in 2004, 2005, and 2006. There wouldn't be another compilation for several years after it was discovered that the winning producer of the fourth competition had cheated by stealing another indie producer's work. It angered A LOT of folk on the website, especially since the winner won exclusive and rare Prodigy items donated by the site's webmaster. So that fucker ruined the whole experience for everyone and soured the competition, which is why there was a looooooong break. The actual producer of the winning track ended up joining the forum and he was a pretty cool dude. The special prizes were returned to the webmaster and was given to the real winning producer. 2013 marked the 10 year anniversary our little compilations, so we put together another competition amongst the bedroom producers on the boards.

For the old school Prodigy heads in this mother...
I fucking love new live reworkings of "Weather Experience" & "Everybody In The Place" that they played once and for Warrior's Dance Festival in Milton Keynes.

Taken from the World's On Fire CD/Blu-Ray

youtube.com/watch?v=r0NXsxQwpgc <---- just beautiful man. crazy lasers, this makes the hairs on the back on my neck go up

youtube.com/watch?v=L1Cay5y2d1c

Liam took synth elements from the track "Back 2 Skool" as well as the re-edited beats of "We Are The Ruffest" and made this new special mix. So pissed that the live release was edited with several tracks removed. WTF, Prodigy, W... motherfucking T... motherfucking F?

01 World's On Fire ***cut from release***
02 Breathe
03 Omen
04 Colours (new version)
05 Poison ***cut from release***
06 Thunder Dub
07 Warrior's Dance
08 Firestarter
09 Run With The Wolves
10 Weather Experience
11 Voodoo People
12 Mindfields ***cut from release***
13 Omen Reprise
14 Invaders Must Die
15 Diesel Power Beats ***cut from release***
16 Smack My Bitch Up
17 Take Me To The Hospital
18 Everybody In The Place (new version)
19 No Good (Start The Dance) ***cut from release***
20 Charly (new version) ***cut from release*** <--- some new dubby version - youtube.com/watch?v=kkj34-aafOg
21 Their Law
22 Out Of Space

How can you cut out the opening track, the track that kicked the whole energy of the event off... now only that, but is the name of the damn release for fuck's sake?!?!?!
Don't get me wrong, I love "Breathe" to death... but it's just not a strong opener, not the right vibe to kick off an event.
I love "Thunder," it was my favorite track off Invaders Must Die. NYC was lucky enough to be one of only two or possibly three shows where Liam played a slightly re-edited mix of the album version that was immense. But for some reason it was removed from the usual set list. He would later release completely reworked version of the track known as "Thunda Dub" on the live set lists and this is the version that is included on the World's On Fire live release. I love both versions equally. Liam turned it into this dark brooding bass number that just pummels you. "Thunder" was actually meant to be another single from the Invaders Must Die, which is why if you notice there's some remixes of the track floating around on the Invaders EP and some promos during that release. I believe the dub version of "Thunder" was meant to be the single mix, which was suppose to include another original b-side track known as "Dead Ken Beats" that was played live as far back as 2005... but this all scrapped and the Invaders Must Die EP for Liam's Re-Amped version of the title track was the final single release for this era.

Gave up expecting anything amazing by The Prodigy after Babys Got a Temper in 2002. But after five years making the new album, was that the best they have got?
I still love seeing the Prodigy play live, its always a lot of fun, Keith and Maxim are great and the crowds are always funny.
But musically they have been very second rate for a long long time. Its like punk karaoke. They used to be musically innovative and just fucking mindblowing.
Compare that track to something off the still utterly astonishing Music for the Jilted Generation. Where are the beats?
They turned into a punk act but were so so much better as a dark dance orientated act.

I kinda agree with you. Whilst i do enjoy the evolution of their sound and do like where it is at now, when they were still making dance tracks was when they were at their best.
Liam has always made music with a killer hook and he was always ahead of the game (see: Experience, FOTL & even AO, NO) but it seems he has settled on this sound because it works best with the live show... Which is something that has also bothered me of late. Still amazing to see and they blow you head off but they don't perform sets anymore, just collections of songs + Maxim needs to shut the fuck up for longer that 10 seconds.

Baby's Got A Temper: am I the only person who enjoys this song? Why does no one like it?

I love Baby's Got A Temper and I'm quite liking this new tune.
The Prodigy have been going for 25+ years, glad they're still around.
I enjoyed Invaders Must Die, but Nasty is much better than anything from their last two albums combined.
They're never gonna conquer the first 3 albums: Experience, Music For The Jilted Generation, & The Fat Of The Land (these are classics)
But if they can deliver an album better than Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned & Invaders Must Die, I call that progress.
If Nasty is considered the radio friendly lead off single with crossover appeal, then I really cannot wait for this album because it's gonna be rawer, darker and more sinister than anything we heard yet.
And I quite enjoyed Invaders Must Die, but I want the dark side of The Prodigy back.
I love Jilted, but the super long length of most of the tracks kill the buzz for me making The Fat Of The Land my favorite album.
I heard lots of bits and pieces from this upcoming album and they have given me hope that The Day Is My Enemy will be a pretty decent album.
Most people say Nasty sounds like a bit like the track Omen, but I never liked Omen. Omen wishes it could be like Nasty.

Yeah, what's great about Qobuz is that you have unlimited downloads and choices of formats...
If you purchase a 24 bit file, you can download your choice of 24 bit formats as well as 16 bit formats and even lower quality like MP3.
A lot of digital sites, you purchase a FLAC and that's all you can download is just that FLAC file.
I love how Qobuz saves your purchases and give you tons of options with that one purchase.
To me, it's THE greatest digital music site out there... just wish they expanded to more countries.
Screw iTunes... Qobuz should be the digital standard.

So The Prodigy was less than a week away from their album release with absolutely no leak in site...
That was until the dumbasses at iTunes decided to create a separate listing for the whole album as a single track for $10 and instant download late Sunday night.
This was the whole album as a single 59 minute long file. Why iTunes had this other listing? No idea, perhaps it was meant to be stream only.
But some idiot working over there set it up with a price tag and had the release date for March 23rd.
So anyone who paid the $10 got an instant download of the album as a single track.
I'm friends with the band's friend/co-producer and let him know what was going on.
Shortly after iTunes listing was completely removed, but it was too late.
The several hours it was up, hardcore fans flocked to buy it and it ended up on the usual torrent sites.
Someone took the single m4a file and split it into individual tracks and re-rendered it as a V0 MP3.
The band is furious, this was not their plan or intention at all.
I kinda feel bad for them because they were so close to the official album release date... with Germany/New Zealand being the earliest release on March 27th.
So close to the release date without a leak in this day and age is quite rare... should get some sorta props for that.
But to have it ruined by a fucking mainstream digital music store has to be infuriating.
At least it seems like a lot of folks actually purchased the iTunes download, many even double dipping just to get to hear it early.
And so far the response has been overwhelmingly positive... like literally 95% positive.
I think the album is amazing... brutal, heavy, and just full on attack... this feels like where the band should have gone after The Fat Of The Land.

It bewilders me why bands still get upset about album leaks in 2015. Is there some kind of record label bonus check or sweetheart deal the band gets if they can make it to the projected album release date without their album leaking?

Because as soon as the album IS released, it's just going to be uploaded for free all over the web regardless. What difference does seven more days make? Nobody is making money off album sales today, unless your name is Taylor Swift, Eminem or similar.

I like the Prodigy, but get a fucking grip. Be thankful that people still want to hear your music at any rate and that you have "hardcore fans" who will flock to an album release a week ahead of time. They'll do another Warrior's Dance festival and bring in money by the truckloads anyway.

The distributors make money off album sales. Isn't iTunes cut around 30%? Now, if you are someone like iTunes, then getting an early release (so you are sole product seller for a short while) could be worth quite a lot. I doubt this was intentional however, for a giant like iTunes the slice from Prodigy sales is probably nothing worth sweating about.

It appeared to be US only, for however long it was up.
neorev, was the single file nicely mixed together?

I've just bought 7 older singles from Qobuz, 95p each, including all b-sides in lossless. Not bad. Sad to see no b-sides on the newer stuff but that's the way it is these days I guess.

I'm having a hard time finding a song I disliked on this record.
Title track is such a great opener. Then it keeps delivering hard punches until Beyond The Deathray, which will blow your mind.
Beyond the Death Ray is The Prodigy's "A Warm Place".
It's such a good song and gives you a nice breather before going into the 2nd half of the album. Second half contains the two weakest songs in my opinion (Medecine and Invisible Sun) but finishes strong with Wall of Death.
Overall, this is one hell of an album. Well worth the wait.

@neorev (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=584) , was the single file nicely mixed together?

I've just bought 7 older singles from Qobuz, 95p each, including all b-sides in lossless. Not bad. Sad to see no b-sides on the newer stuff but that's the way it is these days I guess.

It was in a bunch of different country stores on iTunes.
I actually discovered it because of the Russian iTunes and then found it on the US one.
But yeah, it wasn't just the US store... I know plenty of fans from various countries that bought it off their country's iTunes store.

As for being a single track, some songs go into each other while others just end and the next starts. It's not like a running DJ mix.
Also, the vinyl version has a completely different track order compared to the CD... so that should be interesting.

I gotta say that the FLAC rip from the CD that's floating around out there is a million times better sounding then the leak that surfaced from iTunes single track album stream being available for download by accident. I dunno if iTunes downgraded it or something, but the CD sounds much fuller, smoother, and fatter. The leak from iTunes, vocals sounded low and like shit. On the new FLAC rip there are so many layers that you couldn't hear with the leak, especially cool vocal effects that got crushed and buried with whatever iTunes did that to that single track of the whole album that got out.

Trust me, listen to the actual CD/lossless rip of the album for the proper experience.

my bundle finally arrived! the triple vinyl is beautiful...
the triple vinyl comes in a lift case... comes with a huge poster of the cover with a collage of live shots on the reverse side, 3D lenticular print of the cover, credits sheet, DL card, and 3x 180 gram vinyl (red/yellow/black in matching sleeves) along with the CD and shirt

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk231/NEOREVMusic/theprodigy-tdime-tripleviny.png
180 gram red, yellow, and black vinyl with credits sheet, folded poster, 3D lenticular print, and lossless/MP3 download card
Bundle came with the album on CD and a black t-shirt with the red fox on it.
Oh and the folded poster is on the top left, it actually folds out two more times to make it wider and has the fox on the one side and collage on the other.
In the center is the 3D lenticular print that makes it look like the fox is popping off the page and moves as you change angles.
It's all built quite nicely, doesn't feel cheap to me at all... even the record sleeves are nice and thick material... all nice and glossy.
The record track order is completely different from the CD... I'm curious what's considered the definitive tracklisting (guessing the CD, since it's the same as the digital)

I'm finally listening through the album (currently on "Roadblox") and only the title track caught my attention. Everything else just sounds like a mash-up of the last two albums, which is certainly fine if that's the direction they want to go (especially since the goal is tracks that translate well live). It's clear this sound isn't for me, but I can't help be feel bummed by that note considering the title track made me think, "Oh, fuck yes!"

I tried listening to this last night. Got to some song where they're yelling "I'll beat ya! I'll beat ya! What's he fucking doing!" and had to turn it off. Granted, it was on shuffle, so I got about halfway through it, but it just sounds like another version of their older stuff. Like 'Invaders Must Die 2015', which was essentially 'Fat of the Land 2010'

That "I'll beat ya!" line was actually "Ibiza" with the correct pronunciation.

neorev

Isn't the song called "Ibiza"? It's all making sense to me now

Yeah, the track "Ibiza" is with the Sleaford Mods...
The track is bashing commercial DJs who perform pre-recorded sets.
It started when Liam Howlett's sound guy, who was also the sound guy for another very popular unnamed DJ, showed Liam a USB stick and said "This is [name removed]'s DJ set." When Liam asked what he meant by it, the sound guy explained how the DJ's whole set is pre-recorded and given to the sound guy to play while the DJ just mimes his performance on the stage. This is actually pretty normal amongst some of the big name DJs. Ibiza has a lot of these DJs come out and perform... which is what the song is about and bashes.

The Prodigy doesn't need to be lyrical, their prowess is in encapsulating violence within frantic electronic beats. So many of their tracks are just these awesome doses of badass and it makes you feel badass like you could take on the entire world.

If it was deadmau5, there's no reason to be secretive about it. Joel's been vocal about pre-arranging his sets. His focus is to entertain, which is why he has a heavy emphasis on visuals. There's no mistaking that he knows how to perform live, it's just that he doesn't want a potential fuck-up to take people out of an otherwise enjoyable experience. I can respect that, but at the same time I would love to see him do both.

Seems like something new from The Prodigy is on its way...

Liam posted a couple of clips of a new track/rework of The Day Is My Enemy... possibly called The Night Is My Friend and features rapper Skits Vicious from Dope D.O.D.

First, he posted a clip of what he called the "instrumental" on Instagram...
https://instagram.com/p/9gf_0iLM_K/?taken-by=theprodigyofficial

Then a few days later he posted a clip with vocals...
https://instagram.com/p/9uhwbxLM5f/?taken-by=theprodigyofficial

Now they're starting to tease the rework live in their sets...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmo6T0uaJQo
(skip to around the 5 minute mark for it)

Setlists label it as "Nights My Friend"

There's also a known remix of Medicine in the works from South Central and Liam said "coming to your zone soon."
So here's hoping for a new EP soon since Liam has said that EPs will now be the way he'll release new music in the future because albums take too long to get music to the fans.

elevenism Yes! it is real. It's part of the original demo tape Liam gave to XL Recordings when he got signed. I actually have rips of two demo tapes if you're interested.

What happened was a guy who knew the band back when they first started was given a tape of demo tracks. Apparently he played hand drums and they were thinking about incorporating that live at raves. They didn't stick with it lol. But the guy with the original tape contacted fans through the Brainkiller Prodigy fan site forums. I've been a member of Brainkiller since '98-99 and it's pretty much the go to place for Prodigy info. We dig up a lot of crap before it even gets announced. Anyway, the guy contacted us on the forums and shared the tape. When it got out to the band, Liam decided to post the original demo tape online. So I got rips of both in the best quality possible at the time. "Oz" is one of the tracks.

The original demo tape was 5 tracks... 1) Evil Minds 2) Dr. Zupan 3) Oz 4) Life Me 5) Charly (Remix '91)

The other demo tape given from the hand drum guy has 16 tracks off a two sided cassette tape with some tracks repeated as well as some early versions of songs and their first release the What Evil Lurks EP.

I've been following the band since '93 (the 4th grade) and collect their stuff. I got tons of music from them, including unreleased stuff and demos.

If ya bro wants to converse with other hardcore fans, this is the place to be...
http://www.brainkiller.it/forum/

We even got a shout out on their official autobiography and recently we did an interview with Liam and we able to ask him stuff.

Why are they not touring North America?

They came out here at the end of August into September when they played Riot Fest in Denver, Chicago, and Toronto.
Rumors are going around that they will come back in 2016 to play some shows... but nothing confirmed sadly.

I actually asked Liam on his Instagram account what was up and he said "We come when we're asked" or some BS.
Apparently all of the fans bugging them on their Facebook page to come to the States isn't enough.
We never really get a full on tour over here.
The last tour was back in 2009 for Invaders Must Die, which I believe was split up.
First they came and played the east coast and then came back to play the west coast a little bit later.

Wow neorev .
Thanks for turning me on to all those old demos.

As far as Liam's comments, i have a dear friend who goes by Mass Destruction who books shows in dallas. He was trying to book prodigy a few years ago.
They wanted $5000, PLUS hotel, flights, food, etc.

Maybe THAT's what Liam was referring to-they come to work if they are gonna get paid, you know what i mean?

MD wound up booking all kinds of great shows and continues to do so-just recently he booked Dara and DJ SS on the same night!

The few venues to which he has access just wouldn't fit enuff people to cover a prodigy show that would probably wind up costing a promoter 10 g's

So neorev, are you aware of any non-album/remix material from the FOTL era besides the obvious b-sides (Trick, Molotov Bitch, No/One Man Army)? Like remixes or stuff he did back then that carried the same style of the album...?

You mean remixes Liam did of himself? Not other people remixing them?

Ghost Town, a cover of The Specials is a leftover FOTL era track, there's actually two versions of this track with slightly different structures, one featured on NME Warchild Presents 1 Love comp & Independents Day comp. It was actually played once live at Reading 1998 with Maxim and Keith provided vocals. The released version is mainly instrumental, except for a vocoder voice.

No Man Army (Edit) is a faster version of the Smack My Bitch Up single's b-side track of the same name, which is an instrumental version of One Man Army with additional synths/sounds and featured on the Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005 bonus disc

Back 2 Skool is another leftover track featured on the same Their Law bonus disc. It was first premiered live in 2002 at Leeds Festival as an intro and elements were featured as background loops on their official site.

Voodoo Beats is Liam's remix of The Chemical Brothers' remix of Voodoo People also on the Their Law bonus disc, written and performed live during FOTL era

Diesel Power (Dirtchamber Mix) is Liam's own remix of the track featured on XL Recordings' Against The Grain compilation

Also during this time Liam provided a track to a porno movie called The Uranus Experiment, which featured the first zero gravity ejaculation shot. This is NOT a joke. 3D from Massive Attack also provided music and that's how Liam got involved. The song was called Titan, but only a rip from the actual porno exists. This actually lead to Liam and 3D collaborating on what was suppose to be a new Prodigy track called No Souvenirs. It was meant to be included on the soundtrack to the movie The Beach, but was pulled last minute because they thought it was "too good to be wasted on a film soundtrack." There are two versions of this track, both described in the official autobiography by Martin James. It was being worked on more and was suppose to be included on Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned, only to never surface. This song has still never been released nor heard, except for when UNKLE put up their remix of the track. No Souvenirs was meant to be a single, with UNKLE and another artists unnamed providing remixes. The UNKLE remix is out there, but Liam got pretty pissed off about it and has no plans to release the original track.

Those are pretty much the only Liam produced tracks from that era. He didn't do much remix work.

XL re-released The Fat Of The Land on its 15th anniversary with a bonus disc, sadly that disc featured newly commissioned remixes from Noisia, Baauer, Major Lazer, Zeds Dead, The Glitch Mob, and Alvin Risk

I am sadly VERY, very, very knowledgeable about The Prodigy as they are my favorite band of all time and I have been closely following them since the 4th grade. So if you got any questions or want to know about other unreleased or rare tracks from other album era, all you gotta do is ask. I can never get enough of talking about The Prodigy :p

And in case you may not know, during their down period once FOTL tour had ended around '99 and the first phase of AONO in 2001...
Maxim came out with his own solo album called Hell's Kitchen, which Liam did some production on his tracks Scheming and My Web. Hell's Kitchen features Maxim working with many guests, especially with hip hop artists. He would later release another solo album called Fallen Angel.
Maxim recently started releasing trap music as We Are Noize

Leeroy, the dancer, left the band due to non-stop touring destroying his knees. He went on to release his own music as Flightcrank. He later would hook up with DJ Hyper for a couple of albums. Recently he has released music under his own name and part of the duo Smash Hi-fi.

Keith Flint started his own alternative punk band called FLINT, featuring The Prodigy's live guitarist/Pitchshifter guitarist Jim Davies, and live drummer Keiron Pepper, current-Prodigy live bassist Rob Holiday, and additional drummer Tony Howlett. Their album Device 1 was produced with Youth and was promo'd but never officially released on a label. They even released a single called Aim 4 with a music video directed by Jonas Akerlund, the same guy who directed the infamous Smack My Bitch Up video. They also remixed and were featured on Marilyn Manson's Mobscene single.

FLINT's album would never actually get a official release, but their song NNNN (No Name No Number) would be turned into The Prodigy's single Baby's Got A Temper. Baby's Got A Temper was meant to be the first single for theiralbum Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. When the single was released in 2002 and got bashed by critics, Liam scrapped the several tracks he had at that point and started completely over. Another one of FLINT's tracks was Prodigized but scrapped, this was called Razor and was finally released to fans on the Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005 compilation's bonus disc. Some of these scrapped Prodigy tracks were played live during 2001 and 2002 and videos of them can be found online, such as the tracks Trigger and Nuclear. Trigger was reworked with the Gallagher brothers and turned into Shoot Down and was eventually released on 2004's [B]Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned.

Fans have begged for them to release the scrapped tracks with no luck.

Here's another track called Rock N' Roll that first debuted around the Music From The Jilted Generation era.
Over the years it evolved and resurfaced in 1998 during FOTL tour.

It would never get an official release, but Liam re-used the Kool Keith lyric sample that Maxim sings over on the track You'll Be Under My Wheels off Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned

Here's a fun and useless fact...

As I mentioned on the last page, The Prodigy collaborated with Massive Attack on a track called No Souvenirs that was suppose to be featured in the Danny Boyle film The Beach based on Alex Garland's novel. Alex Garland also wrote the screenplay for 28 Days Later as well as direct and write Ex Machina. Alex is actually a close friend of the band. Go back to your Experience CD/vinyl and look again at the person credited for the cartoon drawings of the band members on the inner sleeve. Yup, it's the very same Alex Garland behind those dated silly looking cartoon drawings.

Hope you enjoyed that useless fun fact.

So I didn't go. I didn't have anyone go to with, but I was also really suffering that week and I had a long drive on the weekend, so I thought it would be too much. Disappointed to have missed them (twice! this year in my home town) but sometimes it just doesn't work out for me

The Russian fan site just posted a sit down interview video today that they did with Liam while they traveled on train to the next gig during their recent Russian mini tour. He answered some fan questions. They're in the writing phase for the next release and seems like they will roll out new tracks in 2017. All he said was that they're going back to the old skool.

The Prodigy ft. 3D of Massive Attack - No Souvenirs (UNKLE Remix)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN8UC0WNZHM

This is one of those weird cases. No Souvenirs was a track Liam Howlett and 3D were working on for Danny Boyle's film The Beach. Sadly, they pulled it from the soundtrack at the last minute. The song got some mention in their autobiography book, with two different mixes described, but never had an official release. Massive Attack mixer Mike Stent tried to work his magic on it to no avail, one of the mixes mentioned in the book. But apparently the track was meant to be a single off the soundtrack because remixes were done by UNKLE and Dan The Automator. Liam continued working on it afterwards and was even considering it for Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned early in the writing process. But according to interviews, they could never get the track quite right.

Then one day UNKLE, without permission, decided to release their remix of the track on a compilation. Liam was not happy about it and slagged them off in an interview when it was brought up. Still to this day, the original track has never been released and only heard by a handful of people close to the band.

Back in 2005, The Prodigy released Their Law: The Singles 1990-2015, a greatest hits collection backed with a bonus disc of unreleased tracks, alternate mixes, remixes, and live tracks. BBC hosted Legends Week where they would celebrate different artists by having them come down to their famous Maida Vale Studio and perform. The Prodigy came in to perform and record unique versions of a few tracks spanning their career with their live band along with some special guests, including a beatbox/flutist on Poison and Shahin Badar to perform her infamous vocal bridge from Smack My Bitch Up as part of a mash up with Firestarter live in the studio. The Maida Vale performances for Voodoo People and Poison would later be released on the bonus disc for More Music For The Jilted Generation, a remastered reissue of their classic album.

I like sharing interesting moments from the band's history. I've been a hardcore Prodigy fan here in the US since I was 10 years old and first heard their remix of Art Of Noise's Instruments Of Darkness. I remember drawing their Experience logo all over my books and my fellow students would be like "What is that? What the hell is the prodigy?" I will be 33 in January lol. For the hardcore NIN fans here, Prodigy are my NIN. So I love to share info or moments some folks may not know about.

For instance, The Prodigy were always hardcore Beastie Boys fans. In their autobiography, there was even a moment backstage with the band chilling and they were blasting Beastie Boys in preparation. I remember Liam in interviews always saying that he would love to work with them one day. But in 1998, the Beastie Boys rung up the band, before they were set to play Reading the next day, asking them not to play Smack My Bitch Up because it promotes violence against women. Liam was blown away and disappointed, especially since this was coming from a so-called b-boy. The term smack my bitch up is a b-boy slang for do your thing. Any real hip hop artist knows this. It's not really about beating woman. Liam was very outspoken and felt it was hypocritical coming from the Beastie Boys lyrics, especially if you read some of the lyrics from their older tracks. So the next night, The Prodigy took the stage and were running through their set. All was normal.

Then the music stopped and this little moment happened...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9GjkFUvXGs

As soon as Maxim finished this little statement, Liam kicked in the opening notes of Smack My Bitch Up and the crowd went wild. The Prodigy were not having it and no one can tell them what to do or play.

Fans already knew this intro as "Osaka Fill" since it was played back in 2004 in Osaka, Japan as an interlude. When this video was discovered on the DVD, we now knew it connected to the song "Shoot Down." Sadly, they haven't done a US tour since 2009 for Invaders Must Die, which I got to see them play Roseland Ballroom in NYC before it was torn down. They toured in 2005 for Their Law greatest hits release. I saw them play the Nokia Theatre in Times Square in '05, which I believe has changed names now. But they haven't done a full on tour in years. They opened for Linkin Park on a few west coast dates in 2011, played Riot Fest 2015 in Chicago, Denver, and Toronto, and played Ultra Music Festival in Miami last year. Hoping the US gets a well deserved tour when the new album is out. They signed with BMG late last year and an announced an album is coming in 2018.

A wild story. I've been listening to The Prodigy since 1993 when I discovered them in the 4th grade. Liam Howlett literally made me want to produce. So I started dabbling with production in 1999. I've been self-releasing albums since 2009 as Neorev. I found a distribution service to get my stuff onto streaming services and in digital stores and put out my latest album called Disrupt The Scene in 2015. This time I collaborated with different rappers and vocalists from across the globe for a mix of hard electronic, hip hop, and rock. Apparently it got the attention of Liam Howlett and he contacted me through his Instagram that he posts on. He direct messaged me in 2016 saying he loved my album, calling it "heavy," and said that if I ever have any new and "dangerous" idea to send them over to him to see if it inspires him to collaborate on something together. So I've been talking to Liam ever since. We exhanged info, sent him over some CDs. Exchanged music. Really cool dude. We just BS about gear, new music, movies, etc. Got him to dig out some old gear and try out new stuff. But yeah, really f'n cool guy. Going back to 1999 when I started fucking around with production, to think 15+ years later my idol who got me into producing would be writing me to tell me he loved my album... just insane.

It has a little blurb about their track "Need Some1" being available in a few days. So things are pointing to this being legit.

To me it sounds like classic Prodigy circa '97 with synthesizers replacing samples. FOTL era is hard to top tho...

New release news for any of the acts I follow usually prompts me to revisit overlooked corners of the discography in anticipation. In this case, I discovered I totally missed the aborted launch of the Flint solo album. Has anyone seen some commentary on exactly what prompted it to get shelved after the release of 2 singles? I'm always intrigued when the plug gets pulled AFTER promos are circulated. Too bad that a) the copies currently for sale are so pricey and b) the music's not great, otherwise I'd pick one up as a novelty.

Wasn't there some controversy over the lyrical content? I know Baby's Got A Temper was initially written for Flint, and that was pretty widely panned.

There was never an official reason why the Flint album was canceled. There were several years between The Fat Of The Land and Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned and I think Keith got pissed how long it was all taking. Keith had his own studio and began learning guitar and jamming. I think Keith initially brought his demos to Liam to Prodigize for the next album. But there was a growing rift between Liam and Keith during this time, which almost cause them to break up. I think Keith got really angry after Liam scrapped the original batch of tracks for AONO including the material he had gave Liam after "Baby's Got A Temper" was slammed in the press. Liam has several tracks at the time, such as "Trigger," "Nuclear," "Back 2 Skool," and the "No Souvenirs" collaboration with Massive Attack's 3D along with Prodigy versions of Flint tracks, such as "Razor" and "Vacation." "Razor" and "Back 2 Skool" were released on the bonus disc for Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005 and "Trigger" was completely reworked into "Shoot Down" for the official AONO album release. The rest of the scrapped was sadly never released.

I think Keith took his songs after Liam binned all their work and wanted to release an album of his material and tour because he expected some more years before another Prodigy record. Quite a few years had already passed and now Liam had to write a whole new album from scratch again. Flint began to do its thing. They played on some big radio broadcasts and some festival spots and started to release singles to promote the upcoming album. I don't think he expected Liam to finish the album in only a couple of years. AONO would come out in the summer of 2004, which The Prodigy would have to promo and tourig for. I think it came down to it's either Flint or The Prodigy. I do wish Device 1 got an official release as I think it is a pretty good album. Maxim got to release his own solo album during this down period called Hell's Kitchen. Liam decided to not use either Keith or Maxim on the album as he claims he wanted to make music that went back to their roots before they were so lyrically/frontman focused, but Maxim and Keith would later appear on the single mixes of "More Girls" and "Hotride (El Batori Mix).

During the very first interviews for The Day Is My Enemy, Liam and Keith revealed they almost broke up again during the 5 year break between Invaders Must Die and The Day Is My Enemy as there was a similar situation in the scrapping of new tracks to start over. Initially, the band were playing a few new bits around 2012/2013 and claimed to have a cover image while teasing the album title "How To Steal A Jet Fighter." New ideas were binned while others were reworked and the album title and cover would change. The Day Is My Enemy was also going to be called "Rebel Radio" and had a different tracklisting/track order initially. It wasn't until Liam wrote the title track "The Day Is My Enemy" closer to its release that he changed the album title.

That album is like my equivalent of that Sinbad genie movie. I swear to God I leafed through the booklet about fifteen years ago and thought "oh, it's pitchshifter plus Keith, cool"

But that can't have happened!

Technically, it is The Prodigy live band with Keith. Jim Davies of Pitchshifter was The Prodigy's live guitarist and Kieron Pepper was their live drummer at the time. Rob Holliday played bass for Flint and would eventually become The Prodigy's live guitarist for Invaders Must Die/The Day Is My Enemy era. I always thought The Fat Of The Land era live band was the best with Gizz Butt on guitar and Kieron Pepper on drums. Both knew how to play around The Prodigy tracks to add something new and interesting live.

Flint - Device #1
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz1nEgzkFeco6A0CPpW2OKitYmNVazSxL

I find Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned kinda starts to lose steam around 3/4 of the way in. I think if some tracks were replaced with their newer versions, such as "Spitfire ('05)," "Under My Wheels (Remix)," and "The Way It Is (Live Mix)" could have helped a little bit. I kinda wish Liam allowed Maxim to help produce as he showed his skills on his solo album, especially his track "Dominant Genes." I wish they worked more together during this time. If you took the best of AONO, the best of Flint's Device #1, the best of Maxim's Hell's Kitchen, and brought them together, I think AONO could have been one hell of an album. In the end, Liam kept Maxim and Keith off the album and didn't tour any of the new songs first. He had to rework most of the AONO tunes for them to work live, such as an alt mixes of "Wake Up Call," "Girls/More Girls" mash up, "Spitfire '05, and "The Way It Is." He probably should have tested them first so he could see what needed an extra kick. I thought the scrapped tracks "Trigger," "Nuclear," "Razor," and "Back 2 Skool" sounded great. I didn't mind "Baby's Got A Temper." If you listen to its instrumental, the production on it is amazing, but it could have done without the "Firestarter" sample though.

With the new album, what interests me is that this will be the first album Liam has done without Neil McLellan. Neil has been working with the band since Jilted. He initially helped with recording and mixing vocals on Jilted and Fat Of The Land. He began helping with production on AONO and his role grew bigger and bigger with each following album, becoming a co-producer on many tracks on Invaders Must Die and The Day Is My Enemy. No Tourists is the first time Neil was not involved and Liam produced and mixed it all by himself. So I am curious how the new one will sound. I think "Need Some1" has a fatness in the production that's been missing since Fat Of The Land. I also like Liam going back to his hip hop side as he started off as a hip hop producer. I hope we see more of that on the album.

Some folks believe we may finally get a newer version of the unreleased "No Souvenirs" collab with 3D that originally was meant to be on The Beach soundtrack until it was pulled at the 11th hour. Lyrically it could fit with the No Tourists theme and the band's reasoning behind the album title. Guess we'll have to wait and see. I never saw a release announced without a tracklist. First time they kept their tracklist secret afternoon the album announcement.

Preorders are up on the Prodigy page (a sweet clear double vinyl exclusive to their webstore is on there). There is also a double vinyl in black that is available basically everywhere and an indie record store version of a violet clear vinyl. I went with the indie version. I think it came down to it's either Flint or The Prodigy.

Thanks for the comprehensive response! I can certainty see promotional cycle issues complicating a release, but I still find myself wanting to believe there was some additional factor that pushed the record into the permanently cancelled category vs. just delayed (which may just be the typical and unsatisfying "record company economics/politics" catch-all). In any event, I suppose I'm glad that all parties ultimately realized which side their bread is buttered on and stuck together.

I've been following the band closely for many years, been a fan since the 4th grade (1993). Where folks here are obsessed with Nine Inch Nails, I've been obsessed with The Prodigy lol.

Yeah, sadly we never got a definitive answer why. I actually like the Flint album too. I have the 12 track version (technically 13 tracks) ripped in lossless along with "Danny" b-side from Aim 4 single. Youth produced the Flint stuff. Flint also did a remix for Marilyn Manson's Mobscene, it's on the MM single. But I think all the bad blood during this period and finally coming back together for the release of AONO was behind Keith deciding to stick with The Prodigy instead of going solo. But it could have been a label thing too.

The most the band ever really got into talking about it was that they said some outsiders/friends were trying to get in between them. Someone would go to Liam's and be like "Did you hear Keith is writing with other people?" and someone would go over to Keith's and say "Did you hear Liam is doing this?" That's how they got the name "Invaders Must Die," which to them was their big return with the three of them being a band together again. AONO was a down period for them and Keith and Maxim were not on AONO in the end. They said what really brought them together again was when they were putting together the Their Law:The Singles 1990-2005 compilation. They were going through old photos and footage, looking back upon their career, and putting together the Their Law release. They said that brought them together and made them feel like brothers again because it made them look at all that they accomplished together over the years and they started to have a laugh like the old days.

They barely play anything from AONO anymore probably because they look at that period negatively. For the Their Law tour, they even tried to get Leeroy to come back to dance on a couple of tracks live. Leeroy came out for one night and Liam was all buzzing afterward and wanted him to come out for more shows, but Leeroy turned him down and said he just wanted to do the one show.

I got Maxim's and Leeroy's solo stuff. I liked Maxim's first solo album Hell's Kitchen where as I didn't really like feel Fallen Angel that much. Hell's Kitchen is hip hop based with Maxim collaborating with different rappers, vocalists, and producers. Liam Howlett actually shows up on Hell's Kitchen as he helped produced "Scheming" with Maxim and did some vocal production on the track "My Web." Maxim has his We Are Noize project, which is dubstep/trap type electronic music, and DJs sometimes in between albums as well as paints and does art.

You should check out this interview with Leeroy that gets into a bit of what happened when he left the band and being asked back for the Their Law tour...

Also, longtime friend and writer Martin James, who has written a couple of Prodigy biographies has gone back and rewritten and expanded the first part of a new Prodigy biography limited edition book called We Eat Rhythm that covers the start of their career up until around the time of AONO. He's planning a second part to come out next year that covers from Invaders Must Die to now...

We now all know about Keith Flint's band Flint that sadly didn't make it far enough to officially release their album...

But did you know he was also was part of another project?

Yup, they were called Clever Brains Fryin', an electroclash, punk, rap band... that also disbanded and disappeared off the face of the earth. It seems Keith was keeping himself busy during the long break between The Fat Of The Land and Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. Clever Brains Fryin' were actually a five piece band with turntablist DJ Jason Laid Back, MC Bad Manner, MC Sir Real, vocalist Claire Cherequi and Keith Flint. Like his band Flint, they even performed live at festivals, including Donatella's Versace Fashion Parade in Milan and at Global Gathering 2004. They worked together in the studio for over year and all that ever surfaced was this one EP...

Besides his band Flint and Clever Brains Fryin', Keith has only guest appeared on a couple of other artist's tracks. Sadly Flint's album Device #1, produced by Youth, was canceled and only a small amount of promo CDs got out, which now sell for $100+ on Discogs and eBay.

Been waiting nearly a decade for Dirtchamber Sessions Volume Two. Guess it's not a thing.

I love the Dirtchamber Sessions, one of the best fucking mixes ever. I know Liam Howlett has teased a volume 2 for years, but I'm not so sure it will happen. Liam was outspoken about the terrible time he went through getting approval from all of the labels to use their tracks in his mix.

Folks may not know this, but the version of Dirtchamber Sessions that was released that we all all know and love is not the original intended mix. Liam dropped the original Dirtchamber Sessions on BBC Radio 1's The Breezeblock on October 13th, 1998. This version featured a different opening as well as some more tracks mixed throughout, including Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles. Liam got the approval to use the song from Paul McCartney, but their label blocked it. So Liam had to go back re-edit and re-record these bits to remove the tracks labels blocked him from using.

Even wilder, there was a very, very small run of promo CDs (only 25) handed out to those close to the band with the original Dirtchamber Sessions on it. Sadly, these promos have never shown up for sale or leaked anywhere. I did find one guy who had a copy and was ready to drop a lot of cash on it, but the guy turned douchey and wouldn't go the with the sale. I think he knew I wanted to share it with a fan community that I am a part of. I really wanted that promo CD. The best we got is a recording from back in the day of The Breezeblock broadcast with the original mix as it was intended.

Electronic Punks is a fun look at the band that was released on VHS in 1995. It includes official music videos from Experience and Music For The Jilted Generation as well as live performances filmed during the Poison Tour intercut with behind the scenes footage of the band fooling around, hanging out, rehearsing, making music videos, touring, etc. You will also hear the unreleased track "We Eat Rhythm" played during the end credits. After the credits, there is a moment of silence/blackness and then the making of the Poison music video.

Thanks for posting all of this awesome Prodigy info Neorev! I didn't know about all of their different sideprojects and behind the scenes stuff. I gotta check out Hell's Kitchen!

I'm hoping that we get to see a tracklisting for No Tourists soon, it would be super sweet if a new version of that track with 3D pops up.

Here's a Fat Of The Land era cover Liam did of The Specials' "Ghost Town," which he decided to leave off when trip hop artist Tricky did his own cover around the same time. They played it live once at Reading 1998. Liam ended up putting out two slightly different versions many years later, one on the NME & Warchild Presents 1 Love compilation in 2002 and the other on the Independents Day ID08 compilation in 2008. Unlike its live performance, Maxim and Keith are not featured on the studio version.

The Prodigy have also performed covers of Dog's "War" and Madness' "Nightboat To Cairo" live, which only short, crappy live recordings have surfaced, and their cover of The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster's track "Rise Of The Eagles" was the iTunes bonus track for The Day Is My Enemy.

That track's awesome. I can remember buying Invaders Must Die on iTunes when I first started listening to the Prodigy back in 2012. I think I might've have started with that record first instead of FOTL. Take Me to the Hospital, Warrior's Dance and Run With the Wolves are my three favourites. I love how Liam mixed in Dave Grohl's live drums in Wolves.

Another vid of them testing out Light Up The Sky. Seems they only gave us a short taste and didn't play the full track.

They have no shows until the album release. I think the single will drop within the next couple of weeks or so.

Hot damn!!!!

Also, neorev , I owned digital punks and watched it over and over back in the 90s on VHS.

I think I'm one of the few prodigy fans who was seriously into it before FOTL, and still prefer experience (and especially experience expanded) to any of their other records.

I think I've told you this, but my brother named his firstborn son Liam, and he is 100% named after Liam H.

I started listening to them back in 1993. My friend Brian in the fourth grade brought in his Sony Walkman and Priority Records' The Best Of Rave Volume 1 cassette. First time I heard rave/electronic music. On that tape was The Prodigy's remix of "Instruments Of Darkness" by Art Of Noise. I went home and described what I heard that day in school to my brother and we literally went right out that day and picked up the same Best Of Rave comp on CD (at Walmart of all places). From there, we began buying more rave compilations. The very next one was a double disc from Rhino Records that we picked up at Sam Goody in the mall and it featured "Charly (Alley Cat Mix)" and "Everybody In The Place (Fairground Mix)." That made use search for The Prodigy and we found their album Experience and the "Charly/Everybody In The Place" US EP. "Experience" blew my mind. The rest is history. We collected whatever we could find by them. A year later Jilted dropped and my mind was blown again.

I remember the night I first heard and saw "Firestarter," but had no clue it was The Prodigy. I was getting ready for bed cuz I had school in the morning and had MTV on. I missed the opening credits telling the artist/track info. So I had sat watching the black and white video with no idea who I was listening to. I remember sitting in awe and not moving. What I was hearing was blowing my mind. I yelled for my brother to get in the room and he came running. We sat there with our mouths open. Then the video finished and the credits came up: The Prodigy, Firestarter, Music From The Jilted Generation, Mute Records. I was like "What the hell?!?! This is The Prodigy?!?! What the fuck happened to them?" as it sounded nothing like anything else I've ever heard before. Living in the US, I only knew them from the few band shots they had on the back of the albums and singles. They didn't have their image yet that would be splattered all over MTV in the coming years. Keith looked completely different with his crazy hair. I remember grabbing my Jilted CD and looking at it cuz I knew "Firestarter" was not on it. This is how early it was when that video dropped here in the US. MTV didn't even have the correct credits for it. I had to tape the instrumental by putting my Wipeout XL PS video game disc into my CD play. That held me over until the single finally showed up in stores.

Man, the memories. The whole build up The Fat Of The Land was awesome. I used to draw their logo all over my school books. No one in my school knew who they were. Then a few years later The Fat Of The Land drops, they become huge, and the next thing you know they're playing "Firestarter" and "Breathe" at my 8th grade school dance. My classmates dancing along. Fucking posers. :p

Yeah bro they "sold out."

14 year old me said that a LOT without REALLY understanding what it even meant :P also i don't REALLY think they "sold out" hahahaha. i actually was far more pissed at Trent for Closer. IDK, i kind of got the feeling that the changes in The Prodigy were what Keith and Maxim wanted and MAYBE a logical progression as far as letting those guys have more input.

But yeah, ok so, you told your story.

With me it was this: i was 14, freshman year, 94ish. And i was smoking cigarettes with some seniors: i had managed to talk my way into hanging out with these cool older kids somehow. One morning they were listening to something and i was like "what in the FUCK is THIS?!"
it was a dubbed cassette of Fire/Jericho. It was a holy shit moment and the first actual real full on modern electronic music i had ever heard.

So of course i had to run right out and get Experience and Jilted.

a few years later, when Firestater came out, my hs girlfriend and i each got a cassette single which we both played literally just fucking over and over and over again for weeks :P

I also remember the world premier of Breathe on Edge Club, a show in dallas that played electronic music at night on the weekend.

Oh and also, what is dope is, i saw those motherfuckers in 97 :)

Edit: neorev it's so funny. I was calling people "poser" before I knew what it meant, making ME a poser. :p

The Fat Of The Land is my favorite album, but sadly didn't get to see them in NYC when they played here that year. I was 13 years old at the time and had no one to go with. Obviously my mom wouldn't let me go into the city by myself back then lol. I finally got to see them in 2005 for the Their Law Tour and and in 2009 for the Invaders Tour. I got to hear Break And Enter '05, Back 2 Skool, Warning, and Dead Ken Beats at the 2005 show. When I saw them in 2009, I got hear Breathe Dubstep, Thunder, and Comanche. That whole show I was thinking "Please play Thunder, please play Thunder.l" as it's my favorite song off Invaders Must Die. Then about half way through their set, they start jamming some synth sounds and I hear Maxim say "I hear Thunder" and suddenly the opening riff of it begins. They dropped this awesome slightly re-edited/tweaked version of it that was awesome. People went nuts and were singing along to the hook. They only played it a couple of times and each time was pretty different at it seems Liam was trying to rework it live. Sadly, Thunder disappeared quickly from the setlist. Never understood how Liam didn't see what a banger it was live. Later on, he began playing Thunder Dub, which is a completely different version of the track, cool, but very different. Apparently he prefers the Dub version over the original. So sadly you will probably never hear the original ever again live. He even started playing Thunder Dub again at recent shows.

I don't know, but I don't feel these new tracks sound anything like IMD or TDIME. Feels more modern and new and the production is loads better. I do feel IMD and TDIME are like brothers, one upbeat and happy and the other dark and brooding. But I'm getting a whole other vibe with this one. It sounds like it's gonna be very diverse, especially since one song is a collaboration with a folk singer. For me, this album is like The Fat Of The Land meets Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned.

This is great. Definitely a modernized Experience style.
All the songs they released so far from this record are already miles ahead of TDIME, which I listened to last night just to confirm how much I dislike it.

New album out today, I've been a Prodigy fan for 20+years and this is the first album I don't like - It does sound like old school Prodigy but that doesn't help it. Too much high speed dubbing vocals for me and no dark edge or interesting new sounds like the last few albums - thank goodness for streaming sites, I can't imagine pre-ordering a big deluxe package only to hate the album and be stuck with a bunch of merch for it. Will still give it a few listens to give it a chance, maybe listening to it at 8am on the way to work in rush hour traffic was a bad idea...

It's better than the last one. I'll say that.
There is a few gems on here but alot of the same otherwise.

I noticed that along with the "breathe" sample they also use the sound from "babys got a temper" in the background of 'need someone"
