I know other than Clavius (if he's back on the new shiny ETS) and a few others besides myself are the only Converge fans in here, but for the few, and in case anyone hears anything before I do (rare...I talk to Jake often and nerd out over this band, but still)...I thought I'd start a thread.

Start with the news that a new album is dropping next year, and in about a week I'll be at this rager. What a serious lineup.

Any album in particular or just in general?

Also, the official eStore put up a ton of new shirts about a week ago, mostly of vintage designs, Petitioning The Empty Sky, etc. Good stuff, but I had to hold out when Jake told me that the Seattle show next Friday is going to have exclusive one-off stuff for sale.

Totally forgot to post after the Seattle show a few days ago. Anways, 6 bands makes for a long ass show. Heiress was great, Black Breath ALWAYS kills it (go download their album 'Heavy Breathing' right now) and Converge KILLED it. Got to hang out with Nate and Jake for about half an hour before the show and talk the new album, which they're 'knee deep in'...expect to hear something about it very soon apparently. Shirts were only for the show, $10 and prints for $15. Print wasn't by Jake, just a local artist...white skull in blurry light grey with bands, date, city at the bottom. Still worth it.

Setlist opened with Concubine, and if you know how fucking small El Corazon is (....it's fucking hella small) you'd know how much the floor opened up and the stage diving was rockin'...every 10 seconds someone was flyin', crowdwalkin'...it was insane. Dark Horse killed it. John Pettibone came back out for 'Cutter' which was a highlight for me. They ended with Last Light of course which everyone loved. Good night. Next tour summer/fall 2012 if all goes according to plan.

Converge fan here, and proud of it. I've seen them twice and have the You Fail Me poster on my wall. Don't listen to them often anymore, only because I devoured their discography over and over. I'm patiently waiting the new material, as I'm a fan of different parts of all their stuff.

And that pug drumming to "Axe To Fall" is incredible.

Wear Your Wounds & Revelator Split 7"EP coming soon
From the Deathwish Website:
Self released, exclusively distributed by Deathwish Direct.
A release date and ordering information will be posted shortly.

Revelator is the somber vision of musician Ben Chisholm, who is also a full time member of Chelsea Wolfe. Recording under the name "White Horse" since 2010, he has released a number of highly praised experimental solo recordings including "Final Coordinates" and "The Revenant Gospels I, II, and III". Sighting other artists working under that same moniker, the name was eventually put out to pasture in 2012. With this fresh start, Revelator offers "Net of Gems", a melancholic and haunting song driven by a wash of electronics, throbbing percussion, spiraling piano and subtle guitar work. He effortlessly constructs a sonic world which conjures up delicate hallucinogenic visions akin to a spry Pink Floyd, but darker and more ethereal.

Wear Your Wounds is the product of years of solo experimentation by founding Converge member Jacob Bannon. Picking up where his avante-garde projects Irons and Supermachiner left off, "Adrift In You" quickly builds into a hook laden storm of sound. Subtle electronics, massive guitars, and huge percussion swirl as poignant vocals call from the eye of it all. Bringing to mind the stark sounds of Swans, Killing Joke, Joy Division, and other like minded artists. Serving as a bold yet abbreviated taste of the new creative chapter for one of aggressive music's most influential artists.

Been waiting on Wear Your Wounds for a LONG time....so pumped.

Metallic hardcore quartet Converge (http://www.convergecult.com/)have just left Godcity Studios having just put the finishing touches to their eighth as-yet-untitled album, the follow-up to 2009's face-smashing 'Axe To Fall'.
Talking to Terrorizer, frontman Jacob Bannon commented: "Being a band for over 21 years, we've developed our sound. Now we just kind of evolve and mutate and get more technically proficient with every record, but there's never a big sound change. It's funny, you hear about bands getting older and losing the will to be aggressive, but I've never found any reason not to be angry. This record is no different."
Amen!
Their new record is due to land in autumn. But, if you fancy getting sweaty before that they play Hevy fest (http://www.hevy.co.uk/2012/) which takes place August 3-6 at Port Lypne Wild Animal Park, Kent.

Wretched World is so fuckin' good.

Also, the documentary on J. Bannon is apparently almost done and will be released in 2 months. And Kurt announced that the album, as of last night, is fully mixed and completed. They're playing tonight with Rorschach (which would be insane to see) but at least we hopefully should hear news soon. I'd say we're looking at a fall release at this point.

"It's funny, you hear about bands getting older and losing the will to be aggressive, but I've never found any reason not to be angry."

Quoted again for emphasis.

Saw Converge with Rorschach last night in Manhattan. Shit was intense. Got a couple scrapes, and I'm happy to say they play with unrelenting aggression after all this time. Rorschach was pretty evil, too, but I wasn't as close for them.

At the live show in Seattle last December, the only shirt they brought along to sell had 'All We Love We Leave Behind' on the back, which wasn't a reference to any previous song or anything. Then Jake did a few interviews in magazines earlier this year where they said '...the new album will be titled All We Love We Leave Behind..' and no one in the Converge camp said anything to refute it. Could change, but for now I just say it's that instead of 'the new untitled album' lol.

You Fail Me is my favorite as well. This track (and Runaway and No Light Escapes) along with that great cover artwork makes me really excited. Nice to see a good change of pace. I like that their punk side seems to stand out more than their metal side this time around. Hell, looks like a good new avatar change for me.

Ordered both the 180g 2x LP from Deathwish, and the deluxe CD with a white shirt from King's Road. I'm seriously jacked for this.

edit: Keep in mind, folks, the deluxe CD (the booklet thing, on King's Road) is limited to 2500 and the 180g vinyl (Deathwish) is limited to 1000. Don't delay if you want this stuff. I'm not sure about the 180g vinyl, but the deluxe CD is individually numbered.

Good choice. Most people start with Jane Doe, which is the one they all know, but You Fail Me is a damn unique piece of work. I can't speak highly enough about it. The guitar tones and the robust low-end really make it a pleasure to listen to.

They're the epitome of an 'acquired taste' but yeah, Jane Doe and YFM first, then move to No Heroes and ATF...then go back if you're still down (lol) and check out When Forever Comes Crashing. I'd put them up there with someone like Refused in terms of 'holy shit' live shows.

i think the interior artwork will be more in that style, but more colourful than usual.

I pre-ordered the book, not expecting the vinyl to be the full 17 track version. I guess I'll pick up a vinyl copy sometime in the future, but the book seems pretty cool as well.

LOVING the new tune.

well, Converge wasn't that great at FYF tonight. I was really looking forward to it too... But the volume was low and the mix was fucking god awful. You could barely hear the vocals, and when they cut through at all they sounded muffled. Also, the speakers sounded like they were breaking, frequently crackling and popping when the sound got anywhere near loud on the low end.

The singer in the band looked frustrated and pissed off too, so I guess it's ok to write this one off as one of those gigs where the technical aspect just fails and there's not much that can be done about it.

Refused, on the other hand, were fucking amazing

holy butt fuck the start of track 5 made me eat my coffee table and run through 4 walls

@JordanETID (https://twitter.com/JordanETID)
ok, track 6 was short, but it still made me call my high school principal and give her the finger

@JordanETID (https://twitter.com/JordanETID)
my wife just told me to pause it for a second, so i literally killed her

@JordanETID (https://twitter.com/JordanETID)
mailman showed up during track 10. he fried his hand in my panini maker then shot himself out of a cannon

@JordanETID (https://twitter.com/JordanETID)
when my 1st born turns 5 i'll send him into the woods with nothing but an ipod nano containing track 12. he'll return the next week w/ pubes

the breakdown in track 13 crumbled my brain. i know longer no the difference between "know" and "no".

I'm at work so I couldn't listen, but that's a really great interview, and a good inside look into the album. I can't wait. They always know how to provide sweet music in time for Halloween. And I'm pretty sure those "nuances" in the vocals/lyrics he's talking about were on display in "Aimless Arrow" - an actual gradient of tones in his voice between his punk yelp and his deep growl.

EDIT: I listened, I melted. Flying off the hinges. Also, can anyone confirm with me that there's something new about Jacob's post-Jane Doe scream that now seems more...dynamic?

After one-and-a-half listens, my penis grew a penis.

How is possible that Jake's scream sounds even more vicious than on Axe To Fall? There are these subtle differences with his voice on each album (obviously much different from before JD, but still). As for the sound, it's got the sludge and atmosphere of You Fail Me, the metal speed of Axe To Fall, and the hardcore tendencies of Petitioning The Empty Sky, but DEFINITELY its own thing.

Totally didn't know they rerecorded those additional tracks. Love the vibe of the new album. Empty on the inside and The Glacial Pace stick out for me right now. Love JB vocals on the closer songs too. Coral Blue could be on Baroness' Yellow and Green album. And that is not a bad thing.

I absolutely adore Converge, but after listening to this album a few times I'm just not sure about it. I know it takes awhile for their albums to really sink in, at least for me it does, but I would rank this album pretty low in their catalog as of now. One thing I'm just not feeling is all of Kurt's leads on this album, I saw it coming over the past few EP releases but I'm real iffy on it. That said, Bannon always knows how to do album artwork right, the art book is excellent.

"Yesterday, after ten hours of driving, we hit black ice in the Oregon mountains. We were forced to crash into a highway divider in order to keep from sliding under 18 wheelers. Though we were all alright, we were precariously stuck facing the wrong direction on the highway for a few hours. With a little ingenuity and the help of a highway worker with some tow chains, we managed to pry our bumper off our front wheels. A few hours later, we were back on the road. Never take anything for granted. Just got to Seattle, time for a positive show. Thanks people"I'm really glad that no one was seriously hurt... love these guys, I hope to see them make more excellent music in the future.

Just got back in Vancouver (fuck me it's 4am) and the show of course was a blast. Talked with Ben and Jake for a while free their set, they were pretty freaked out from the accident...no one had cell coverage and they were stranded for a few hours...scary shit. THEY PLAYED TRESPASSES AND YOU FAIL ME.

Am I the only one that thinks that every record since No Heroes has been a little predictable and over produced? The thing I loved about Jane Doe and You Fail Me was how radically different it sounded from a lot of other things that were going on in the hardcore scene at the time. When Ben took over most of the production duties in No Heroes, everything has kind of had a similiar studio sound to it. Plus, I was the only one I know who really disliked Axe to Fall.

New record is alright but I just can't get into it as much.

Going to have to agree. "You Fail Me" was the last album of theirs that was really something epic and special, everything since has been good to great, but not on the level of "Jane Doe" and "You Fail Me."

I think it's just their evolving sound, though I'm clearly biased. I also think AWLWLB is better than ATF. And what's with this thing about Ben taking over the production? I think Kurt has more of a hand in it since he's been the producer, but I'm sure they all have input.

I saw them in Brighton the other week and FUCK ME were they good. It was at pretty much my favourite venue, the sound was outstandingly good, and the band were SO intense.

Converge are one of my favourite bands ever, but when I seen them I was kinda disappointed. It wasn't as much the band as it were the crowd, everything was fine during Touche Amore, but while Converge were playing some drunk dicks were just throwing punches around everywhere really aggressively with obvious intent on hitting people, few people had to be taken out. I think it's hard to kind of sit back and just appreciate the new stuff live too, I think you kinda need to go a bit crazy to get into it, whereas I don't think you could possibly get douchebags hxc dancing to their older stuff just with how obscure the time signatures are.

CONVERGE "CARING AND KILLING" LP OUT LATER IN 2013 ON HYDRA HEAD, AS PART OF THE HYDRA HEALTH REHAB PROJECT

As part of the mission to revitalize their great label, Hydra Head will soon be releasing "Caring and Killing" the first original recordings from Converge, on vinyl.

This is not new music. This collection of early Converge material from 1991 to 1994 has existed for many years on CD and Digital formats. However this new and improved version of this release features revamped packaging from Aaron Turner and J. Bannon. The release has also been remastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music and in sonically superior to any previous versions on the release.

Keep posted to the Hydra Head website for release/ordering information, coming later this year. In the meantime, please support their "Hydra Health" project as they work diligently to repair and maintain their great label.

I might be the only one that thinks this but I have not been a fan of anything the band has done post No Heroes honestly. To me, all the production has really kind of sounded the same and besides maybe a few minor differences here and there...most of the records sound in the same entity as well. The progression from records like When Forever Comes Crashing to Jane Doe and then Jane Doe to You Fail Me were amazing. All of those albums had completely different feels and while still keeping true to their hardcore punk roots...felt extremely experimental for the genre itself. They completely distanced themselves from (in my opinion) incredibly boring peers they've played with like Bane. I've just never been a fan of that almost over bearing "tough guy" vibe in hardcore music, which is annoying itself cause St. Louis has a shit ton of local bands like that.

Anyway, I liked No Heroes because it was all over the place but sounded clean, lean and mean. Axe to Fall just sounded like No Heroes II in my opinion and even felt like touring with Mastodon had rubbed off on them as they sounded more trashy and metallic. I really tried to give AWLWLB a chance but once again, I just felt bored when normally listening to a band that gave me goosebumps and made me feel incredibly inspired. I still have incredible love for their first five records but unlike everyone else in the world, I just can't get into their last two efforts as much sadly.

They did put on one of the best and most chaotic shows I've ever seen, I saw them in 2006 a week or two before No Heroes came out and bodies were flying all over the place. A humorous moment happened when Bannon got his mic chord caught in the drum set and it gave it a clothesline effect which tripped up some dude trying to stage dive.

Personally I dig AWLWLB more than ATF, but it's close. I get what you're saying about the production though absolutely. Maybe it's because up to No Heroes, it seems like each album changed so drastically, and now they're just 'in the groove' per se. I think also I love AWLWLB more because it's just them. I'm all for appearances and stuff but it seems to have more of a lasting appeal than ATF. You're not alone lol.

I've always felt they're a better live band as well. Can't beat their shows, but in terms of listening to it in my car, etc. it definitely is on shuffle with other stuff. You mentioned Bane, and I couldn't agree more. I've seen them once and thought 'Nah, I'm good.' The brocore thing is a bit much for me as well.

Okay good, I'm glad I'm not alone in here a bit. lol. I mean Converge is one of those bands that changed my life, I was playing "core" music with some friends of mine in high school and the first time I heard You Fail Me and Jane Doe..it completely opened my ears up to how you could write aggressive music. They've always remained a huge favorite of mine even if I haven't cared for newer material. I think you're right about finding their "groove", it seems they've stuck to that which is fine I suppose but I've always liked them because of how much they challenged me and it just seems like there's so many bands nowadays that try to copy what Converge was doing.

Jane Doe is in my top five albums of all time, You Fail Me is up there somewhere in the top twenty as well.

Thank you! The "brocore" sound is incredibly annoying to me, it's just not my cup of tea and never will be quite honestly. I think what I really enjoyed about Converge was they had those "COME ON BRO, LETS TWO STEP" moments but including spazzy/mathcore elements that just made them so much more interesting. Bannon's scream of course made them incredibly distinct because they didn't sound like some dude in a black hoodie, camo jeans and tattoos just yelling in a microphone. Converge was scary. I can even remember friends who were into Terror and stuff like that always told me they could never get into Converge cause of how crazy it was. Kind of funny.

We are proud to announce a two night Deathwish event July 22nd and 23rd at The Sinclair in Cambridge MA, featuring exclusively Deathwish affiliated artists.
This is the first in a series of Deathwish Events that will happen in the future worldwide.

Converge and Trap Them will headline both nights of the event. It will be both bands only Boston area appearances this year. It will also be the only area appearance for Modern Life Is War, Harm Wulf (G. of Blacklisted), and YAITW who are all making the journey exclusively for these shows. It will also serve as the New England stop for the Oathbreaker and Cult Leader U.S. Tour (more details on that tour soon). Add the monstrous Doomriders, Code Orange Kids, Self Defense Family, New Lows, and Chrome Over Brass (Al of American Nightmare, etc) and you have a truly diverse and powerful lineup.

That DWFest sounds fucking amazing. I love when these labels put on their own "festivals". Gilead Media did one last year and it sounded amazing. They are doing it this year as well. A bunch of bands like Thou, The Body and Ash Borer. I read somewhere that Sargent House is trying to put together their own thing like this and that would be amazing considering the bands on their roster.

Either way, wish I lived near the East Coast for this.

Here's an announcement that we will be announcing something tomorrow. Announce to your friends and loved ones the importance of this announcement as it is more important and life affecting than any other announcement you could possibly hear tomorrow. Thanks. -J.

I say:

1. DVD done...finally.
2. New album info...long shot.
3. Something tour related.
4. Hiatus.

Really hoping it's not the last one, but with Jacob having a baby now, and the side bands, and everything else...not to mention Kurt's producing and the fact that they've been going balls out for like 20+ years, I honestly feel it could be something like that.

i tried to watch it in surround sound but, GOOD GOD, why on earth was it mixed like that? jake's vocals are literally the ONLY thing coming through the center channel, and 100% dry. no effects whatsoever. and considerably louder than all of the instruments. i even put my receiver in "pure direct" mode (which bypasses any processing that the receiver normally applies, like delay compensation or individual channel level adjustment) and it still sounded awful. i ended up watching the whole thing in stereo because i couldn't stand it.
october_midnight any thoughts?

@october_midnight (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=288) any thoughts?

Other than buying it, watching it once, and being choked about the exact same thing? None lol.

The packaging looks gorgeous but I held off on buying for exactly that reason... its really hard to find live videos of Converge without Jacob's vocals being too far upfront. Kinda bummed that seems to be on the case on that release.

Anyone here have the boxset? I'm curious what the vinyl sounds like

the stereo mix on the blu-ray sound great. i was bummed because i prefer listening to live concerts in 5.1, but it was still extremely satisfying. the setlist is also fucking killer.

have they ever considered having some kind of vocal processing for jacob when they play live? i mean, his voice always sounds AWESOME on the albums, but live, because of the way he holds his mic, he just sounds TERRIBLE and i don't understand how kurt has never gone like "dude, we need to do something about this." :confused:

He also lets the crowd sing half of the songs sometimes....I don't wanna hear some meathead do it....do it yourself! It's all about the chaos of it all though, I get it.

Pre-orders up for all the new 'Jane Live' packages. (https://kingsroadmerch.com/converge/)

All the different artists' rendering of the cover are amazing, but had to roll with the Ashley Rose Coutore version...just too slick.

Prints here too. Fuck it, ordered all five lol. yolo. (https://deathwishinc.com/collections/converge)

any idea how this is going to sound? i haven't jumped on ordering it because if it's mixed like the other live stuff (other than the BBC 7", which sounds great) i'm just not interested.

God damn, this thing slays. I listened to it about a month ago and it reminded me of how important and impactful Jane Doe was to me growing up. Still sounds as mean as ever.
