Post your Youtube findings here. Videos, channels, tubes, etc.

(I don't know if it's better to post links, or use the video tag whenever you post a video, so I guess just do whichever you think is best.)

Is it just me, or does Youtube no longer do the preloading thing? You know, with the progress bar? I used to click on a video and pause it to let it load ahead so that I could play it without any pauses. But now it seems like the progress-bar-thingy is gone, and you can only choose to play it or not, almost like it's streaming.

Finished a "multimodal review" for one of my grad classes...slowly learning about video editing using iMovie = sweet. Reviewing the video and noticing some GLARING errors in the science = not so sweet. Luckily, we're being graded on content. I think if I were to have had the camera at a different angle, and using higher quality stock footage for the green screen, things would have looked better.

It's a glampunk short film: kinkyparade vs. neo-nazis and fundamentalists :)

Political and in-your-face.

"I've Only Just Begun" is a ragingly beautiful and empowering story about Venuz Vulgar and his friends on their way to St. Petersburg, Russia.

It's written and directed by E. Over 60 people were involved in this free, independent production. Thank you all. Big up. No fear.

Dedicated to activist Nikolai Alexeyev & Pussy Riot.

I like the clip with the Westboro people, but really, they're trolls, and feeding them does no good. You just have to troll them back, and he's being way too respectful. The only way to deal with these people on a talk show is to dump a bucket of waste on their heads after they sit down, and then you trigger a foghorn every time they try to talk.

Elke
12-03-2012, 02:02 PM
I really disagree, and not just because I was taught to be nice to everyone. The Westboro's consider themselves to be martyrs because of the way they are mocked and ostracized. By not granting them the treatment that sets them apart, their usual way of defending themselves / presenting themselves is completely undermined. And it also shows the other side as not being the liberal uneducated (biblically) false prophets they make them out to be, undermining their entire argument.

I know there's no arguing with a madman, but even madmen have followers, and it's for those who say: Well, I wouldn't go that far, but I do hate fags that these sorts of conversations are important.

I think.

Jinsai
12-04-2012, 03:00 AM
Even the most homophobic people I know are united against the lunacy that is the Westboro Baptist Church. And really, no, I'm pretty certain that they don't truly believe what they're saying, which makes them trolls. When they protest the funerals of dead soldiers with signs about how "god hates fags," it's not just an irritating non sequitur, it's a desperate plea for negative attention. They will show up on any show or public outlet that will have them, and they'll do their best to piss as many people off as they can.

The only information I needed to know about them I got from the Wikipedia page about their leader Fred Phelps, but there was interesting short documentary Vice did about them (which focuses mostly on the one family that joined their church without being born/indoctrinated into it). You can probably find it on Youtube.

But in my opinion, the best thing to do with these people is just make fun of them and then pretend that they don't exist.

On May 28th 1982, at about 5pm, Joseph Billie Gwin, wanting to prevent World War III, forced his way into KOOL-TV studios in Phoenix, Arizona. After a 4 1/2 hour hostage crisis, KOOL TV finally relented and agreed to go live on the air at about 9:30 pm. Anchor man Bill Close, on the telephone with the police, and with a gun at his belly under the table, read the 20 minute statement live on the air to Phoenix viewers. Gwin monitors with his portable TV to make sure.

This seemed to belong more in this thread instead of the Random Stupidity thread for its very topic, even though there are videos from Neurotically Yours that can very well fit into it. And considering how it was uploaded in 2009, I was a bit surprised that forums were brought up instead of social networking sites. I also thought Neurotically Yours ended, and then I forgot that it ever was on YouTube to start with. I suppose I'll also use this thread to post its URL here. I've regularly followed that Internet show around 2003-2005, which is why it caught my attention that much to the point of actually posting it here along with the fact that it speaks about forums.

As somebody that frequents YouTube, I have noticed that there's still an enormous controversy and debate as to whether or not disabling comments and ratings is an act of censorship and cowardice. YouTube channels were actually called out and ridiculed for that, and have also lost subscribers as a result. What's your stance regarding that issue? Is disabling comments and ratings a form of censorship and cowardice in your opinion?

I was just curious about this issue as it seems to have been a hot topic in YouTube for quite some time. There also seems to be a lot of users and channels that also believe that disabling comments and ratings is an act/form of censorship and cowardice.
