Tour Photos - post your galleries, tips on capturing, etc.

Thought this could be a great thread to start - one place for people to post their shots from the current run, be they a couple shots in-thread or a link to a gallery elsewhere.

Additionally, those of us with photographic backgrounds could offer some tips on how to take pictures that don't suck, because concerts aren't the world's easiest thing to shoot. I'll offer a couple quick pointers:

-TURN OFF YOUR FLASH. Seriously, if you're not against the rail, all it's going to do is light up the guys in front of you and give you an absolutely horrible shot. And if you ARE in the front row, it's either going to be too dim to make a difference, or it'll negate the lighting that Trent spent so much effort on and give a pretty boring shot.
-If you're using a real (point & shoot) camera, manual exposure is your friend. If your camera lets your set an over/under exposed parameter, go ahead and experiment with the -1 to -2 range. That'll help keep Trent looking well lit and the background the way it should look, instead of a brighter background and a washed-out TR.
-Boost your ISO setting to at least 400 (for the really, really bright parts of the show) or higher (800 and up) for the rest. It'll give you a faster shutter speed. The Photos Begin to Not Blur.
-iPhone user? Tapping/holding the screen will make the camera focus on that part of the frame AND expose for the lighting in that particular section. So if Trent's lit up brighter than the rest of the show, this will again help keep him properly light with a slightly dimmer background.

All that said - I only took two photos at the gig I was at, because I was more interested in just enjoying the moment. And since my phone is in another room, I'll post later - if at all. But I'd like to encourage everyone to post their shots or galleries from this tour in this thread. It's a visually stunning show; let's see what you've got!

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD thank you for what you said about flash. As a photographer I die a little inside every time I see a fucking flash go off at a show.

I have the HTC One and there is a feature called Zoe. It takes a 3 second clip and you can go frame by frame to select a pic. Worked out pretty good for me.

To the point that someone was caught with one 5+ rows back in the pit in Newark and security pulled him up to the rail and out. Sucks, first time NIN has played since I gained access to a wonderful equipment room, and I can't use anything beyond my iPhone.

I had a terrible time trying to take decent photos last night. The amount of fog they had running at any given time made it real hard to get any good ones. The best I could get still wound up looking like this:

I was shooting with an iPhone and tried a couple different settings. I didn't want to keep fiddling with my phone, so I just accepted it after a couple songs.

I did have media credentials and a photo pass, but we were told two days before the festival that all photographers were banned from the photo pit during NIN except about 5 people who were shooting for the festival itself and NPR. So I had the unpleasant experience of bringing my DSLR and long lens (Canon's old 80-200mm f/2.8L, aka the Magic Drainpipe) into the mosh pit to try to shoot from there, and ended up with lots of blurry shots. After a few songs I was dragged out by security who yelled at me for shooting after the first three songs, and I only avoided being thrown outside because I still had gear in the media room. The later photos were taken from the upper level of the arena at the end of the show.

Lesson: if you want to take thousands of shitty cellphone photos you're fine, but if you have a press pass and a real camera you're out of luck.

Thank you! I'm going to get a smaller and more up to date one in the next week or two. This one's too big and too much of a hassle to deal with. Most venues are cool with me bringing it in because it isn't a DSLR, but other venues that are less sophisticated don't have the slightest idea on how to categorize my camera. :(

Or the other venues are more sophisticated, realize the reason that DSLRs aren't allowed by the artist, and recognize the threat that your camera would pose to the artist's mission to strictly control their image ;)

That might be the case with some venues, but the majority that try to block mine tend to be the clueless ones that think I have a DSLR, when it clearly is not. More modern venues like Oracle, Staples, etc. always let it go and they even have a print out for their employees on what counts as a true pro/DSLR camera and what isn't. They also highlight more detailed instructions in their rules on allowing certain models that have detachable lenses, but aren't near pro quality, like with this brand: http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Nikon-1-Cameras/index.page

I've talked to many house managers throughout my time with this camera and even if the artist is ok with it, the venue staff has the last say in it. Usually I'll debate with staff and contact a manager and they'll ok it after looking at it, but this time I was exhausted and couldn't be bothered and just check it instead.

Finally finished uploading my photos and 15 second video clips on instagram from all of my shows. Unfortunately I was only able to take my iPhone 4 to these shows, so they're not as awesome as some of your guys shots. Toronto, Cleveland, and Newark from the rail, Robin's side. DC from 100 level seats, Robin's side. I'll upload longer videos, and videos of other songs, to youtube after the semester is over so I have time to clean up the audio (too much audience noise to bother uploading them otherwise).

A tiny workhorse, when I go to shows I have no problems with ushers/security people letting me in with this camera, I like to call it "the point and shoot on steroids" or the pocket DSLR. Very inconspicuous, the thing can take amazing shots, the only downside to it is that zoom is only 3.6x so for good photos you need to be right next to the stage.

Which was the case for the last show I went to, in Vancouver, I was super close to the stage so the photos came out alright. Enjoy:
