I first got into Kid Rock when Devil Without a Cause Came Out. My favorite bands at the time were Limp Bizkit and Korn, Puff Daddy (whatever was on TRL on MTV) and I didnt know much about bands like TOOL or NIN or Pearl Jam etc. I really dug DWAC, it was so different to me atleast. It had some feel good tunes as well as some more emotional songs (only god knows why), and it kinda drew me. I also got into Uncle Cracker. I thought Little Joe was the man as well as the black chick drummer. I remember watching kid rocks 1999 woodstock performance and thought it was the shit. Same with Korn's performance. God I can't believe I liked that stuff. The Last full album I gave a listen to was the one after DWAC, can't remember what it was called though. I stopped listening to Kid Rock probably around the time I discovered bands like TOOL, APC, NIN, QOTSA, etc, and occasionally listen to DWAC as its on my iPod. 'Fist of Rage' is still great as well as 'It Ain't Nothin But a Party' and give them a spin from time to time. I feel like Kid Rock went real commercial and watered down from what I've heard on the radio in the past couple years. Thanks for posting those oldies, I totally dig 'Back from the Dead'.

There was a funny story in Rolling Stone about his support for Mitt Romney. It detailed the meeting between the two, then this bizarre public event with Romney where Kid Rock refused to say anything, like he couldn't verbalize why he was supporting Romney or even that he was. It's as if he just knew with his gut that Mitt was his guy, but his brain and mouth were somehow refusing to go along with it. He came across a total idiot.

I dunno...I saw You Don't Know Me back in the 90s and thought it was OK. Then when he came out as a rap-rock guy the whole thing stank of fake. At least nu-metal was trying new things: this was classic rock-rap. Rapping over Skynyrd and whatnot. Every single thing about KR comes across to me as pure cliche: this is why I have never had the interest in sitting down and listening to a whole Kid Rock album. Or song for that matter.

And what the fuck is a Bawitdaba?

My dad is 61 years old, hates rap, but loves his stuff. He went to a show of his with my brother and got pretty good tickets. I like that he pretty much confesses to regretting the "Kid" part of his moniker now that's he's past 40.

The album that came out after Devil Without A Cause was Cocky, that is, unless you're really referring to The History Of Rock, which wasn't exactly an album.

Yeah it was The History of Rock

I remember not digging it all but I think it had some older stuff on it if I remember correctly?

Yes, that's correct. The History Of Rock was mostly a compilation of re-recorded songs from The Polyfuze Method and Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp. The only other songs that were new at the time were American Bad Ass, and Fuck That, which came out in 1999. As for non-album tracks that were also made in 1992 and 1994, they were Dark & Gray, Abortion, and Born 2 B A Hick.

Haha. I can't believe there is actually a thread for this here. I fucking LOVED Devil Without a Cause when it came out. Last night, for whatever reason, I thought of:

Gold links and minks and shrimp dinners on the Bayou
Thems are the things that I ain't gonna buy you
It's like one of them freak things
Hit it once maybe every couple week things

So now, after I submit this post, I'm about to find this album on the internet and listen to the entire thing. I've never listened to any of this other albums. But this was the soundtrack to my misguided 8th grade year or something.

I don't really listen to the music or even have any of his stuff on my computer, but I've seen him live at least twice and the man puts on a fun fuckin show.

He performs this with this huge assortment of musicians who are actually extremely talented, and his set is broken down into all these little sections.

You get a little country segment (which I normally don't enjoy), some blues, some heavy metal, some classic rap stylings where he does his turn table thing, it really becomes this musical journey through all these genres which he clearly respects a lot.

I highly recommend the experience, especially for an outdoor summer show. One of the past tours Lynyrd Skynyrd opened for him, which was awesome, and I thought about how Kid Rock is basically this generations Skynyrd, as blasphemous as that might be to some.

Some of these lyrics... lolol

I got a Whirlpool, don't even ask
Licking pussy underwater, shooting bubbles up your ass

Hahahahaha.

And I forgot that Em was on one of these tracks!

Not a massive fan, but I like some of his songs.

Man i really hate most of it, but i do like a couple. The duet about "i saw yer picture today" gets me every time.

My darkest secret is that the first album I ever bought with my own money was Devil Without A Cause. I still know most of the words to this day, despite not listening to it in over a decade. (I usually tell people the first album I bought was Running With Scissors by Weird Al)

No shame in that, DWAK is such a fun album and one of the best hard-rock releases of the late 90s.
