I thought of actually giving this thread on SpongeBob SquarePants a go because I noticed that it's not just the most loved and popular cartoon from Nickelodeon, but I've always noticed that it had an appeal to older audiences as well. I've also thought that SpongeBob SquarePants was probably the closest active cartoon to come to Rocko's Modern Life in my opinion, but that's just me.

I also figured that most fans that were kids in 1999 are adults now, assuming that they have grown up and have still remained fans. I watched this show regularly during most of 2001 to 2005, but haven't really watched it as much since then. I also make this thread out of nostalgia too. I watched this show so many times when I was in high school, and as it turns out, I still watch it occasionally whenever I catch it on Nickelodeon. And well, discuss favorite, old, and new episodes and seasons here. I still find myself liking the older episodes too, and that's partially due to nostalgia.

And to at least leave some videos for the starting post, here's two of my favorite moments from very early episodes. They've been burned in my memory. :p

@tony.parente (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=2107) - I wonder what you think of this show too? (Your avatar compelled me to ask... again.) :p

RIP Stephen Hillenburg
You will be as they say, sorely missed.

You were such a/an colossal/epic part of the 2000s & 1999, and now it's gone. :(

Disclaimer: the following post is in no way, shape, or form meant to generalize the Spongebob audience or suggest anything about anyone here who watches it.

When I was a young and awkward middle/high school student, I was very much a part of the unpopular crowd. That crowd could be divided again into two distinct groups: those of us who were unpopular because we were introverted, studious, and cared more about pursuing hobbies or schoolwork than hanging out and chatting with classmates, and those who were extroverted and, quite frankly, not terribly bright or ambitious. (And that's not to imply that extroverts aren't intelligent - just not this particular group). I didn't know a single person among the introverts who so much as batted an eyelash at this show, but the guys and gals who couldn't possibly have cared any less about their education were obsessed with this. You'd think it was the greatest piece of artwork to ever grace any medium, the way they talked about it. And based on that audience (and also not having cable), I just never found myself even remotely interested in watching. To this day, I still don't understand what the appeal is - but I suppose that's what one should expect when they've never given it a try. Maybe some day I'll finally come around. But in the meantime, I've got perfectly awkward cartoons like Archer to keep me going when I need an animation fix.

Still watch it. Still love it. The first season is right up there with stuff like Ren & Stimpy in terms of absurd humor, and it's really the last remnant of old school Nickelodeon (before everything became sanitized for your protection). Obviously it's nowhere near as funny as it used to be, but occasionally they surprise us with a good one. Every episode featuring Mermaid Man (RIP Ernest Borgnine) and Barnacle Boy is worth watching for sure, especially if you're a fan of the cheesy 60s Batman show.

Was good in its heyday but it's kinda been waterlogged and milked for far too long. It's gotten to Simpsons quality standards for me: Shows are passable, not as good as the beginning seasons. Far too loved and good to take off the air and far too strange to not be able to see new episodes or it being on.

That feeling I get whenever I want to do anything but write a paper. It just summed it up perfectly. :p

The best continuity gag in all of cartoon history:

I also forgot and overlooked that gag being used over and over again. It really has been so long since I've watched the show altogether.

I also just typed "Nine Inch Nails SpongeBob" in YouTube just for the heck of it, and ended up with this. I forgot which episode that little montage came from, but I'm also positive that With Teeth didn't exist when it was aired, so Every Day Is Exactly The Same always seemed to remind me of it, and somebody actually put it together.

And one of my other favorite gags was the ice cream gag with Patrick Star.

Oh yeah, and 3:00 AM is apparently the perfect time to eat a Krabby Patty. :p

Squeaky Boots is probably my favorite episode. I mean, who doesn't love this?

I can't say I remember as much as everyone else but I'd watch if a bit if my kids were- one favorite part was when Spongebob and Patrick were sitting inside a perfectly plain box using their 'imagination' and Squidward kept looking in to see what was really going on.

there are so many lines from this show engrained into my memory/vocabulary that i don't even notice half the time.

the other day, my fiancee said something that prompted me to spurt "he was number one!"
so i made her watch "one krab's trash" with me. she's not a big spongebob fan, but she quite liked the "oh my god, a floating shopping list!" "no, i'm a ghost!" joke.

I am the ultimate SpongeBob superfan because I have the SpongeBob edition of Monopoly. Not the digital one; the real thing. We should do a meet and we could play. Fair warning though: I never lose at Monopoly.

@redshoewearer (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=166) - This was one of my most favorite parts of that episode.

@marodi (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=125) @eversonpoe (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=588) - The board game being mentioned reminded me of Sailor Mouth. I love how Patrick called expletives sentence enhancers. (Which is actually true in a way sometimes.) :p
