Am I the only one who isn't concerned about this, at least on an "as it personally affects me" level?

From what I understand, it's activated by clicking on a malicious link in a text message from an unknown sender, and it's generally being targeted to a select group of people. I can't remember the last time I even received a text from an unknown contact, let alone actually clicked on a link in a text message from anybody. I'll probably update anyway since I usually do when prompted, but I feel like the global "HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS YOU'RE GOING TO GET INFECTED IN THE NEXT FIVE MINUTES AND YOUR PHONE IS ABOUT TO BE A SPY WEAPON" headlines are an extreme case of fear mongering.

2. Cuphead. Rumors that since it's supposed to be releasing this summer, they're going to show it...and say it's 'out now!'. Would be nice.

The latest version of Mp3tag (v2.84) now supports tagging for Nero-style MP4 chapters. Mp3tag will now show sub-tracks, allowing you to edit individual chapter tags. This is a continuation of the change made in v2.83, which allowed you to delete chapter information.

There's a reddit thread about it...using algorithms, people can put celebrities' faces on porn, to ever-increasing success. Some of the newest ones are apparently almost impossible to tell...

The implications of this are insane. Someone creating a fake sextape of someone they want to harass. It's what, two years tops until it may be a world of AI-generated scandals, political bombshells...

I'll be honest, i can't see the point of this. The Nintendo ones work because Nintendo are so restrictive with how we get their classic titles, the PS games are easy to find.

Very...although since Far Cry 5 was out this year i can't imagine this has been in development that long, and Rage 2 has been known about for some time now (though Rage 2 is out in May so New Dawn has an advantage on it)

I really think EA has lost all interest of making a good story driven game now. The last really good one was Titanfall 2 and that didn't meet their sales expectations. If they can't monetise the fuck oot of it they don't care anymore, every FIFA has just been a tweaked version of the previous year with more and more focus on the Ultimate team card packs, Battlefront and Battlefield games have been weak attempts at trying to get players to spend more on extras and loot boxes and i'm just so...tired of it all.

I might just boot up Titanfall 2 again just because. That games MP was on point! I do understand the Battle royal and free to play fatigue. Less games are doing BR right, and even less doing Free to Play correctly (i think Warframe was the last one to get FTP correct in my mind)

I literally just decided to take a nap after I made that post instead, lmao. I really couldn’t be less interested. I’m sure I’ll give it a couple rounds one of these days, and I’d be willing to come around if it’s actually a fun game. But again - no money from me. Not for Not-Titanfall 3.

Here’s my thing about the Titanfall 3 news, too - Either 1) They’re lying, because they know the ooonly way that anyone will put money into this is if people think there isn’t a bigger, better game coming down the line (T3), or 2) Titanfall 3 really isn’t going to happen, in which case I have even less desire to fall back on “APEX LEGENDS GAW SO EPIC” to fill the void. So much of this just feels so gross and trendy. Maybe gameplay is stellar and I’m just being ignorant, but oof, sure isn’t what I expected. I do have a small hunch that the discounting of T3 is a ruse, though. Maybe it was even handed off to someone else? My favorite comment in response to the announcement was “well, if you’d asked them a week ago if they were developing Apex Legends, they probably would’ve said no, too.” When it comes to stuff like this, you really can never know until you give it time, so I suppose after a couple more years we’ll know. If nothing else, now the potential future announcement will be that much more hype. (Perhaps that’s the intention? Hmmm...)

I was thinking alot about this last night, by all accounts it seems like they were working on TF3 in 2017 but something happened (EA) and this is what TF3 became. Remember the rest of Respawn are working on a Star Wars game, so we can only assume this is all they have now. Plus this is set in the Titanfall universe some 17 years after 2...so i have no reason to not believe them when they say they aren't working on TF3.

Now the real question, will they ever? Unfortunately i don't think they will. If this is successful EA will only look at this Battle Royal game as making money, not Titanfall (2 didn't meet their lofty exceptions) so they'll just ask for more of this, not a real TF3. If this doesn't make them money...that'll be it for this or any games in this universe as none made the money EA wanted (and probably the end of Respawn).

Also they way they've released this feels like EA doesn't want it to succeed. Just dumping it into the game world to avoid all the bullshit EA got for loot boxes with little fan fare...and less than 3 weeks before EA's big new IP (which is well into it's advertising which is already eclipsing this) make me feel like EA doesn't care about what Respawn are doing...

That’s actually in line with what I’ve read about the game today. If it’s good enough to get me in and shrug off all my little gripes, I’m happy to eat my words! I’ll probably give it an honest shot tonight. Worst case scenario, no money spent. If running around and playing with the game’s momentum physics and things like that are still there, I’ll be content - for now, heh.

Well, I gave it a few rounds.

Not gonna lie, the fact that the movement feels completely kneecapped by removing wall-running is kiiiiilling the vibe of this game for me. The fact that I have to use a cursor instead of the stick/d-pad to navigate every menu: No. The forced squads and a complete lack of solo play: No. The total swamping of people who have played this game for ONE day and are already on their toxic bullshit about people who are 24 whole hours late to the party and who are fucking it up for the team: hard no.

WOOOOOOW, and I was disconnected from my training session because I sat idle for too long (maybe two minutes). In the training session. What? How does that even make sense? And I have to tediously go through the intro of the tutorial every time to get to the shooting range section?

Four matches in (Edit: Now 8), and I’m really not feeling it. :/ I’m probably just going back to Titanfall 2. I don’t think I’m in the demographic this game is for. I’ll give it a little longer, but oof. I can see the hype, but it’s really not my bag. What a bummer.

BIG EDIT: In other news, the new Devil May Cry 5 demo is out now apparently! The timing could not be better.

So i've had a few days to give Apex Legends a go...and i enjoy it...parts of it anyway!

It's great that it's free and everyone can play, and it still has all the great fast snappy shooting of Titanfall 2...but it isn't nearly as good as TF2's MP. Also it's bloody obvious assets from TF2 have been swapped into this wholesale, parts of the maps, buildings, gun animations, fuck even all the guns (i instantly recognized the Spitfire, EVA-A and Wingman) even the scopes you find are direct rips from the scopes you could add to weapons in TF2...which makes me all the more sad it's not TF3.

However the biggest issue is the whole squad battle royale thing. I've had this issue with them all where in if you get a good squad, as in one where the other players WANT to play with you regardless of if you win or lose, you can have a great time, but if you get a bad squad, as in players that don't want to play with you and just want to either troll, quit out, spilt up miles away or think that screaming into the mic "REVIVE ME FUCKING FAG, YOU PIECE OF SHIT, FUCKING REVIVE ME I'M BETTER THAN YOU FAG!" whilst they are down in the middle of a firefight and your trying to clear the enemy squad so you can (yes this happened more than once)...it sucks. I even had a match where the 2 others had partnered up, and when we landed (i wasn't the jump master so just went along with them) i got killed almost straight away...my 'teammates' who had guns by this point and were in spitting distance just turned around and left...didn't bother picking up my echo to revive me, just had no interest in playing with me. That's my biggest issue with this,and other, BR games. Unless you have friends to actually have fun with its a gamble whether you'll even have a fun time. Oh and the grind to unlock stuff...seriously fuck off with that and your fucking loot boxes!

Honestly i can see why people are playing and i'll probably play for a few days (my only friend on PS4 wants to try it) but i can't see me playing this much more, especially as i still want to try Resident Evil 2, Hitmans downloaded and God Eater 3 and Shadows Die Twice are out soon.

EDIT : I would like to add all credit to Respawn for launching the game, with no beta or trial period, in a fairly decent playable state (odd crash notwithstanding) Anthem could learn a thing or 2...and EA why are the launching this now with that a few weeks away?!

Not snarky at all, and for the most part i agree with you! It's especially bad in free to play games as everyone can play, and they're usually the worst! But other full priced games tend to have better players (especially ones where you can turn voice chat off, Titanfall 2 was freaking wonderful online and worked so SO well!) I've had a few great rounds in Apex Legends with players who want to play, but they're few and far between. Plus i've just done the maths on the loot boxes for unlocking rewards and...it's fucking gross, really fucking gross!

I just mute my teammates if I even hear them, simple. The way they've incorporated pinging basically anything and having your in-game character call it out is genius.

Yep, he pretty much nailed it. Though my maths was on the unlock rate on stuff. I play games to collect stuff (much like in life) and getting the better skins and what not is what i aim for, and the unlock rate in this is...bad. You can only get unlocks through 2 ways, Materials and randomly in loot boxes. Materials drop randomly in loot boxes (so you can only unlock stuff through them in the end), between 15 and 600 (600 being a legendary drop, which only has a 7.3% every box, so chances are you'll only ever see 15 and 30 drop) unlocking stuff depends on their level, normal costs 30 materials, blue costs 60, purple costs 400 and gold (legendary) costs 1,200...so you won't unlock much for materials.
The only other way is through the random chance in the loot boxes, which drops 3 items per box. Each character has around 140 different bits to unlock (Skins, Frames, Poses, Tracking info (yes thats unlocked) and voice lines) with 8 characters that's about 1,120 different items, and 758 weapon skins, giving you at least 1,800 different items that randomly drop each box...chances of you getting something you actually want is pretty fucking low. Each box costs 100 coins with 1000 coins costing £8 (i'm guessing about $10?) or you get one box every time you level up...which is long.
I've given up any hope of ever unlocking anything i want, there's just no point with drop rates like that, and by extension kills any desire to buy any coin packs...there is no point, everything is down to pure luck (and so far i've mainy unlocked stuff for the 2 heros i haven't unlocked yet...yay.

The game, when in a party who want to play the game, is really fun. Shooting is just like TF2, i'm slowly getting to grips with the different hero skills. And it's good to see a game launch in a playable state with no beta or pre-order bullshit...but the micro-transactions are just crazy! And as a Free-to-play they NEED players to want to buy into these, otherwise it'll just be filled with players who aren't buying anything, which will fuck over Respawn. The reason Fortnite does so well are the rewards feel worth getting and affordable. When your having fun in the game you don't mind dropping £5 here and there for a skin, not £14 for one, or £8 on 10 chances to get one thing you want out of 1,800 other mainly pointless things!

OK so i have some...reservations shall we say about Googles idea.

I like the idea, it has some great potential, but there are a few stumbling blocks...

1) What internet speed will be required to use it? I'm guessing something quite hefty, which will count me (and a lot of people) right out of the service. My current connection is 30-40mbs, and that is the best i can get (i'm told) where i live, and that can't even use PS Now without it rendering the game unplayable after 20mins, so my guess is this'll need something like 50-100mbs minimum? This would be especially bad if Google starts getting exclusive games, it wouldn't be like "oh i need a new console to play this" it would literally be "well i can't play it unless i move home"...and that's pretty nuts.

EDIT : They have confirmed you'll need a recommended minimum of 25mps for 1080p 60 FPS...which i'm not so sure i believe giving my experience with 30-40mbs and PS Now (it's awful even with PS3 Era games!)

2) How are they going to solve latency issues? I'm hearing (online so it could be bullshit) that there are 1-2 seconds of latency, which on PvP games would be awful, how exactly are Google going to get around this?

3) My issue with all streaming platforms...licenses. I hate giving money to company's to effectively 'rent' music and film, especially when they can just vanish from the service (Tool on Spotify for example, or the countless anime i tried watching on Netflix) Unless the platform owns the content it will be down to a license agreement to be on said platform, and when that agreement comes up for renewal the platform holder might just go "well this wasn't very popular so we won't re-new" This is a pain for music and film, but you can always find ways to find it again...with Games it's a little different. Imagine for example a deep RPG game you have invested 100's of hours into. It's not massively popular but you love it. Now say Google doesn't own the license and it gets to the end of it's contract, google say "not enough people are playing it" and poof, gone. Gone is the game AND all the hours you put in (as well as saves)...that would SUCK!

Again i like the idea, but at the moment my above issues are keeping me from getting excited about it...

This is why a lot of PC gamers aren't sold yet. Even a fraction of a second would be a massive deal, and Google hasn't said how bad/good this will be. I suspect this will also come down to each persons connection/provider? Again we probably won't know until some of us get to try it in our own homes, speaking of which...

I echo all those questions and concerns, i saw someone mention how if this were to eventually become the norm that it would basically kill the modding community for future PC games, there's nothing to modify if you aren't given any access to the game files. That and like you said with license expirations and games potentially disappearing from the service after a period of time, what would then happen to preserving older games? the beloved titles due to critical acclaim or cult following? Do they just cease to exist? The gaming industry is bad enough at keeping it's past alive, companies acquiring other companies and ending up with IPs that they don't do anything with. You're lucky to get anything remastered or updated for modern compatibility unless it's from the previous generation and even then.

With Steam a lot of older titles get released digitally in the state they were in when they were first made available and on modern systems these titles are in poor shape and don't function very well out of the box, this is where at least by way of having the files the community can dig in to the code and fix some of the problems. A developer or publisher can grant the release of the source code for a given title and thanks to a dedicated community of gamers you now have a working product that can stand the test of time.

I have to imagine the games that would end up on Google's systems are going to primarily reflect whatever the current gen is at the time because when those titles will continue to come and go and the years keep on flying by, the technology is bound to be upgraded (how often is anyone's guess) and the older games that would run into performance issues would probably have to be run through some sort of emulation, somehow i can't see Google making this big of a commitment unless it really takes off and our other options throw in the towel.

We are in some strange times.

My guess is Google want the average console gamer market, people that just want to switch on a box and play, no fuss (thats where the money is!)
And i completely agree, older games will effectively die in this state. Just look at LEGO Lord of the Rings, The Scott Pilgrim Game, P.T. Dead because of licenses/bullshit, BUT if you had a copy you can still enjoy it to this day...that won't happen with this new platform.

It's for that reason i can't see physically owning games will die, modding and continuing to enjoy games will be in a lot of PC gamer's minds and will continue to be a thing.

Also the whole being able to drop into a streamer playing a game has great potential...until they said it was with YouTube Gaming...i honestly thought they'd canned that! Anyone i watched that used it stopped and moved to Twitch a LONG time ago!

If it needs 25mbs min it's safe to say you'll be doing 1.5 gb of data a minute and 90 gb an hour...is that doable with your data pack broadband contracts? Or is this going to lead to stupidly expensive broadband every month (if you can even get 25mbs!)
I know for me personally before i moved there was a few years while on a 15mbit/s connection where my ISP put a data cap on us at 150gb/month and that's something i had to share with others so it got ate up pretty quick... and this was implemented after like 15 years with the same ISP, before then data caps were a completely alien concept to me and something i only thought smartphones were dealing with. I was so pissed off when our plan was changed this way, i had to change the entire way i used the Internet.

Fortunately since i moved i have an unlimited cap again *knock on wood* and also a much higher speed at 50mbit/s after we had fibre lines installed (after actually having WORSE connection speeds for a brief time at 6mbit/s compared to where i lived previously, that was ROUGH)

Google Fiber has been a thing for a while ;). As a side note, Peoria, Illinois was a candidate for Google Fiber in 2010 (we lost).

Cable has had a monopoly in this area since the 1970's; we finally got fiber in 2014, but hey, it's not available in most of Peoria because of territory clauses or some such BS. The reason I explain all of this is because the situation here is not even close to unique as far as the United States. If you don't live in a "major" city, or lucky enough to live in an area that was chosen for FIOS or Google Fiber, you're kind of screwed. Or you spend $200 a month for Internet.

I'm not hyped on this... It sounds like Playstation Now / Remote Play... which works with some games fine and not so great with ones that need quick timing and fast reflexes. It's fine as an addendum to an option you can play locally.

And even then, while PSNow lets you download games to your system to improve performance, I'm cancelling my subscription. It's not worth it, mainly because there isn't enough content on it that I don't already have, and this Google system sounds like it'll take a while to even catch up with that.

Interesting part is that "your" computer can be configured to have more GPUs and CPUs... can feel some potential for... something there.

But, internet speed is overrated, what's important is ping and stability. Why all stream video players cache stuff? Because with internet, nothing is guaranteed, when will next data packet arrive, and will it at all? I remember the pain when my internet connection dropped for 1 second while in "pro" simrace (e.g. Live for Speed), hours of training, being right there with all info about tyres and fuel and strategy and laps remaining, and suddenly staring at the disconnect screen with dead wheel in hands. Do you have connection without drops? I don't think anybody does, not for that money, it just doesn't show with "normal" use.

You will notice a difference, but nowhere near the jump from 480 to 1080. There are charts floating around that take in to account human eyesight, viewing distance, and resolution of display. These charts suggest "most" people would need a TV of 62" or larger to really begin to see the difference between 1080 and 4K. This is at an average viewing of 8-12 feet away.

So yeah holy shit, Game Pass Ultimate is bonkers. I just upgraded and confirmed with Xbox that it's one roll up monthly charge of $16.99 CDN. Buuuuut since I was already paying $13.99 for Game Pass, and had prepaid a year of Xbox Live ($6/month) until Feb 2020, they won't start billing until whatever prepaid Live time you had left. So I pay nothing until March 2020 and get it all. AND instead of $13.99 and about $6 a month, it's a flat $16.99 too. Dang.

Borderlands 3 - Sept 13th (...day one? Maybe, i might be able to wait on this one. Again this could be 40-70 hours depending on how into it i get)
Trails of Cold Steel 3 - Sept 27th (Day one...again, the first 2 are AMAZING, but this is an easy 120+ hours)
Code Vain - Sept 27th (This could be another long one, maybe up to 100 hours)

Outer Worlds - Oct 25th (Day one and another 100+ hours if it lives up to the promise)

Pokemon Sword - Nov 15th (day one purchase, 100+ hours easy)
Star Wars Fallen Order - Nov 15th (i really like the look of this, probably a 10-20 hour game maybe??)
Doom Eternal - Nov 22nd (Doom 2016 was FANTASTIC so this is another day one purchase, maybe 10-20 hours???)

...i dunno where i'm going to find the time honestly!

Updated with confirmed dates, Might have to leave ToCS3 for a bit until they announce the 4th's release date, giving me most of October for Code Vein and BL3. Try and blast though Outer Words in time for Pokemon and leave Doom/SW for christmas...that's the plan anyway!

If something good does come from this it's that people are now realising just how much influence Chinese companies, and by extension the Chinese government, have over gaming now. All the backlash with censorship aimed at SJW's and american companies were more likely moves to get games into china, and the amount of companies that are either part invested or just outright owned by Chinese companies is alarming! It's a massive wake up call.

I had a preorder for the thing because I had a $100 Google store credit so figured that made it reasonable. Then I found out that even though I had preordered almost first thing I wouldn't get a controller until almost the end of December. It's a controller and a Chromecast puck! wtf. so I cancelled that and used the credit on something else that Google was killing - the Pixel Slate. At least the Slate is useful.

also why does Chrome spellcheck not know how to spell Chromecast. There's a red squiggle there.

They're pitching two new Silent Hill ideas. One a soft reboot, more in line with the traditional titles, P.T etc etc. and the other being a Telltale like more storytelling based kind of version.
Potentially even going to see a 2020 reveal.

yeah, I read the small blurb on wikipedia and they certainly hold up a very sheer curtain in front of that information, as well as saying pointedly "DON'T LOOK AT THE CURTAIN."

Changing lanes: considering how cozy the big three have gotten with putting stuff on each others machines, why not make next gen a one-console future? MS has their box and Sony has theirs but they are pretty similar in the end, minus the OS. So why not take a page from the PC and 3DO handbook and offer machines from different manufacturers? This way you can still have the MS box that looks like a Borg cube but it'd play the same games as on the Sony.

I mean, Sony is going to release MLB games on competing platforms so that's a really big step in that direction as is Xbox Live on the Switch. Games as a service is another when you consider it. I mean, how much would Activision Blizzard and EA and especially the indies like it if they only had to develop for two platforms (PC/Console) instead of PC, Sony, MS, & Nintendo? I put PC aside because they are a fractured bunch.

Yeah it can. I’ve seen a few articles that show it in its horizontal orientation. Looks like a thin little round black stand that comes with it to lay it on its side. Also however, judging solely on disc drive size, saw an article that says it could be the biggest console in ages.

It's a pretty decent overlook for a swath of video games. There is sooooo much more that could have gone into the RPG and FGC episodes.

One thing the show has encouraged me to do is go back and look at some old Taito releases on MAME.

Anyone else playing Tony Hawk 1+2? I am LOVING what they've done with it. The gameplay, levels, and even the soundtrack and completely intact and the graphics have been given an amazing facelift – it looks GREAT and plays EXACTLY the way I remember. I couldn't remember exactly how to play when I first started, but after one 2-minute free skate session, it all came back like riding a bike. It may be missing like 2 songs from the original games, but all the important ones are all there (plus a few new tracks). Also, I'd completely forgotten that "Downtown Minneapolis" was a level in the first game, so that was a pleasant surprise/reminder!

they do mention it, though it’s presented as kind of a narrative arc than anything useful or informative there, and that tendency is part of what bummed me out about High Score. It’s always constantly searching for some sort of dramatic story, and in doing so it leaves so much essential stuff at the wayside. Who would have thought a doc series about the history of video games could avoid saying the word “Galaga?” You talk about the evolution of RPGs and never talk about MMOs or any Japanese rpg except Final Fantasy... you bring up the history of adventure games but don’t keep up to talk about Kings Quest or any Lucasarts games.

But we get a good fifteen minutes reliving the glory day when some guy (who seems like a douche) won the US Sonic the Hedgehog tournament on Alcatraz or something

What concerning me is that it only lists current gen for the release, PS4, XBOXONE, Switch, PC (and stadia whatever that is...) does this mean if it's digital only we'll only be able to play on this gen for Sony (xbox is backwards compatible)?

Seeing as people arguing for this from Ubi were just as vocal to Limited Run Games to get a physical edition (they have been getting in on the twitter action) if Ubi aren't doing a physical edition i bet bet my arse they will be fighting to release one!

And the whole Ubi not including anyone from the original release doesn't surprise me, Ubi are a really awful company! this is the only release i'm prepared to give them money for!

As similar as everyone is right now they should just merge and do a 3DO / one-console future thing where there isn't this weird arms race. It's not a vehicle, there's no need to have two manufacturers with competing stuff. Just make it like a blu-ray player where the only difference is cosmetic/UI and the guts can play the same disc as the next machine. It's almost un-consumer to have these exclusives like this. Especially this year when everyone is so strapped.

and I know it's not a must-have consumable but it's just annoying when you have cross-play and yet not.

Ugh... Microsoft buying Bethesda is so lame. Oh well, it makes more sense than when they tried to get all these niche JRPG exclusives secured, like buying out Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean. It's a smart business move... until this point, there was really not much reason to get an Xbox over a PS5.

Now that's changed. I guess if I don't wind up getting an Xbox, I'll miss Fallout and Elder Scrolls.

Phil from Xbox said that they will make games available all platforms on a case by case situation. So maybe doom might be Xbox exclusive and make Elder scrolls multi platform.

I hate exclusives. Wish I could play spider man.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say...I'd rather Microsoft buy up and studio then Sony. Why? Because there is a chance Microsoft will still let their games on other platforms (See ori, minecraft etc and the whole PC thing)

I'm not exactly happy about this either way, i think this could be the start of a lot of BIG studios going to either Sony or Microsoft (Nintendo won't bother, they have a strong enough first party line up to not worry) I could see places like Fromsoft, Square, hell even Ubisoft giving all their recent behind the scenes BS might see a buy out as a way to clean the slate...it sucks, BUT it is awesome for those into Game Pass. I don't think the likes of Doom, Fallout or Elder Scrolls will be excusive to xbox...new IP's though, that's a different story.

I think I'm divided on the concept. I think exclusives are a generally alright idea if the console-publisher is funding the project. For instance, I think it's great that Xbox has exclusives like Halo and Gears of War. It totally fits their brand, and they've invested in the studios that make them. They basically are the reason they exist at this point.

That's ok with me. Stuff like timed exclusives is just insulting, and it makes me want to do everything to resist buying your system. It's bullshit when Xbox does it with Tomb Raider, and it's bullshit when Sony does it with the Final Fantasy VII remake. Everyone should be able to play that now, it should be on Switch and Xbox and whatever.

I'm glad Cuphead is finally on other consoles... also glad the newer Ori game is on Switch.

I do see the point with securing content for different demographics... It was a mess when Microsoft pretended that they had any business securing exclusive rights to games that appealed primarily to the Japanese market. Just like with timed exclusivity, they're basically paying money JUST SO YOU CAN'T GET IT. It's completely different conceptually from funding a project for your platform.

Wish it would stop, but this is an egregious example of what I dislike here... it's also ramping up the concept. Microsoft created "timed exclusives." Buying out studios that have mass cross platform appeal is a very good move strategically, and it of course cost them 7 billion or something to do it... but now, yay... guess I HAVE TO buy an Xbox now.

This honestly feels like what Microsoft did with the Minecraft situation.

Did not expect this to happen, but hey, we're here. I'm not making any judgment until they have the time to be a bit more transparent with what they will actually make exclusive and stay cross-gen. I'm not immediately won over because they acquired a big studio. Didn't Xbox buy up a bunch of studios last gen that took the console absolutely nowhere? Sorry but the graphic that shows all the studios Xbox acquired doesn't impress me.

If they make Doom a console Xbox only exclusive, then that is just horseshit. What sucks is I don't want an Xbox and would rather play these on PC but I can't afford an upgraded rig atm so people would say "Just get the XSS" which I definitely do not want to own... Man what a fucking mess this next gen has turned out to be so far.

.... Still waiting for that showcase showing a next gen game actually running on the XSX that I was told is coming very soon.

And it didn't work. They abandoned their efforts to have an impact at all in Japan with the Xbox One, and probably considered that to be part of the system's overall failure. This time, it would make sense for them to buy a huge property like Sega/Atlus.

Which is so goddamn weird though... Atlus didn't even bother putting out their titles on Xbox One because nobody playing on Xbox cares. It feels like a kind of theft to buy out Persona etc... and considering that the Switch has now announced this upcoming Shin Megami Tensei sequel.... I can't be sure, but if Microsoft buys Sega/Atlus, all that's going to happen is a bunch of people aren't going to be playing the games they wish they could, because MS locked them into a console that primarily appeals to a Western audience. If they start just buying up studios for the sake of keeping them off other platforms, yes, FUCK them. Bethesda deal doesn't bother me as well, but if the Sega/Atlas thing does happen... We might as well start making an Xbox version of the monopoly board.

I can't imagine Sony not having another move up their sleeves before these rushed out consoles become a reality. But what makes me even more crazy is the miscommunication when it comes to console exclusives, timed exclusives and so on.

The uncertainty already looming around Final Fantasy 16 and it's exclusive nonsense is met with confusion minutes after its reveal. Square removing the PC logo from the ad after the showcase along with that Demon's Souls mix up as well. What a shit show from both sides...

... Still waiting for the UI towards ANY of these consoles or their features to be displayed and we are less than 2 months out.

EDIT: Well it looks like this whole stream is to just advertise Game Pass and Xboxs IP's to Japan, not to get any actual Japanese's devs to make them games...pretty sure this might put to bed those SEGA buyout talks. Xbox clearly has no indication of making the same mistake they did that Jinsai correctly pointed out, they only see Japan as another market to buy their existing catalog on Game Pass. They mentioned alot already that xbox is going to be a global brand, so they will only be interested in studios with global reach. As awesome as Japan is not many of their games have the same reach around the world as a Fallout or Elder Scrolls. The only one's at that level are Final Fantasy and everything Nintendo owns, so i very much doubt they'll put the big money towards a buyout of SEGA at this point.

Also a side not this stream has just been Flight sim flying around Japan and people making Japan in Minecraft...it's pretty cringy honestly.

CD Projekt Group are not having a good week.

So as some know they have their Projekt Red division that develops games like The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, they also have their own digital storefront called GOG or Good Old Games. Well GOG let everyone know via tweet that they have seemingly decided to kowtow to China and not sell a Taiwanese game called "Devotion" because it pokes fun at their dear leader Xi Jinping. They're saying it's a decision based on feedback from "gamers". Big fucking LOL

The history with the game Devotion goes back to early 2019 when the game was released on Steam, after the offending material about Xi was discovered it got review-bombed and then removed from the store altogether.
