I've been in NYC my entire life and reside in Queens. I don't see myself leaving Queens, NY any time soon, and usually prefer to go into Manhattan or other places in Queens where the subway trains run whenever I actually go out. And yeah, I'm also going to see NIN on October 14th too. I kind of wish the concert was at Manhattan at either Madison Square Garden or Irving Plaza though, but I checked the commute, and even from Bayside, it's not that bad since the train station is just right in front of Barclays Center.

I probably won't be going to the NIN show because ticket fail, but yeah! Let's do something!

I haven't gotten around to getting into Godflesh, although I see how checking them out for me alongside the likes of KMFDM is way overdue for me, especially as one that likes Ministry and Fear Factory's earlier works. (Speaking of which, did you also see Ministry too?) The Killing Joke show was also one of the best shows of my life too, and I actually don't attend concerts regularly, so that said a lot to me right there. I remember one of the security guards asking me if they were good, and right after I mentioned a few bands that were influenced by them, it really made him very eager to listen to their music. I wonder if a fan was made that night.

Do you guys mean the KJ show in April at Irving Plaza? Granted I wasn't really in the mood that night, but I thought it was pretty lacklustre/going through the motions.
And I've seen them put on amazing, incredible shows.

10 year New Yorker here, just moved out. Still miss the city quite a bit, though I plan to visit often.

Manhattan is great to hang out in, but quality of life there is pretty shitty. People put up with all kinds of crap because it's Manhattan. The construction, noise levels, dust, pollution, traffic are all pretty disgusting, but hey, it's Manhattan. People convince themselves they have it great. Brooklyn is more my thing: great people, culture, neighborhood; a slightly slower, more relaxed pace of life. Manhattan is all anxiety and anger and go go go.

i saw ministry play with revco at bb king's bar and grill in times square a ways back. couldn't bring myself to go to that farewell tour... aggroculture- if that show was mediocre... i'm very very interested to see another show. i thought it was amazing.

as for manhattan, i definitely avoid it, outside of the necessary DJ night (i djed in the lower east side for 3-4 years until the night ended this past february), work, or a karaoke outing. the lower east side is especially awful these days...used to love hanging out there. in general, i prefer brooklyn for food, bars (though greenpoint >>>> williamsburg), and everything else.

Lived in Greenpoint two years and I love it. Apparently it's massively polluted though.

I lived in Windsor Terrace for a year. Greenwood Cemetary is enchanting, especially in fall.

yeah, i love windsor terrace. i live on the border of windsor and kengsington. some great restaurants, mostly takeout, though the park slope mentality is expanding to our new neighborhood as well. the cemetery being our front lawn and the first thing i see every morning is a huge plus.

I just have far too much nostalgia and childhood memories for Flushing and Jackson Heights. I also love eating out in both of those places, and if I were to also have a chance to actually get back into apartment life while being interested in it, I think I'd go for either Flushing, Jackson Heights, or Long Island City. (And if I'd be lucky enough to get a house, even better.) But of course, that's just wishful thinking and/or a very long-term dream. I guess Bayside is still okay though.

I thought about it, and for all I know, I've probably passed by it before. I do however remember Breakdown Records (http://breakdownrecordsnyc.com/), and it was the only other place I found Closure too, but it was used and unfortunately broken with the VHS tape of the music videos missing. (I tried to get it as a gift for a friend.) I'm still surprised that it still exists after all these years.

Bloomington, IN, where the partner got a job. It's a great little college town, I already like it a lot. We have a house with a yard, and culturally there's plenty of Brooklyn-type stuff here going on. But I do miss NYC, and plan to be back there often: my dad lives there too.

Barclays is within walking distance of a CRAPLOAD of places on 5th ave in Park Slope.
We've frequented High Dive in the past, and that may be a good place to start.

I actually thought about posting this here for a while. And well, if you're a fan of Maddox, you'd know what to expect. He's very spot on about the subway system too. And as much as I love living here, I don't brag about it as if every other place as inferior to it. I saw what he meant by that too. Thinking that pizza from New York was the best pizza in the world never crossed my mind either.

What are good places you guys in NYC like to go to? Apart from Indian cuisine I pretty much eat everything (no disrespect though, I just can't handle it that well). Give me your pro tips on all things meat, seafood, sweet stuff etc. ;)

I'm especially interested in good food that you might not get elsewhere so the more "out there" it is the better. I want to have a good experience wether its just fucking tasty, a true and honest family business, some extravaganza or just a great place to be. I kind of followed Anthony Bourdain and his insights during his shows the last time, but I would love to hear your recommendations from street food to haute cuisine aswell.

These videos brought me back a lot of memories and nostalgia as I grew up in Flushing while occasionally visiting Jackson Heights from time to time. It's fascinating, considering how YouTube wasn't even a thought to begin with at the time. Anyway, it turns out there are a couple accounts of people that recorded train rides and bus rides on YouTube, and it's pretty fascinating since it's like traveling through time and taking a tour of those places as they were back in the day.
