From what I can tell 'Daddy' is from the Daddy Dom/Little Girl Sub lifestyle. A woman who gains emotional/psychological benefit from regressing to a younger state and a Daddy dom who plays a parenting role. The Lg will have stuffed animals, maybe do colouring, wear young girl style clothing and throw tantrums when it's time to do boring stuff. Not all of the relationships have a sexual element though and many have difficulty understanding them and are frequently not understood. I struggle with understanding it completely. However if everyone is an adult and capable of giving informed consent then it's not a problem. There can be Mommy/Little Boy relationships too.
The term 'Daddy' then seems to have become more mainstream and exclusively sexual as a way for younger women to refer to older men they found attractive.

I think this is distinct, as is the use of the word "daddy," from the ubiquitous step-sister/step-mom/incestuous stuff that is so prominently featured on pornhub... A mass realization of family dysfunction, and perhaps using sex as a coping mechanism. I love being called Daddy, or having one of my own. I often say that BDSM is like parenting between two adults, as a result of my experience with this. If submission is about letting go, one of the things inherent in that is "adulting" and letting someone else call the shots, if for just a few hours or for the rest of your life with that person. But that's from my perspective, and maybe the reason this sort of stuff is popular in kink/fetish porn. As far as more vanilla stuff, I think it's some of what I said, but without the depth.

The "taboo" is appealing to people, in varying different degrees. Not just sexually but in general I think we are always drawn towards what we shouldn't be.
