Just to make sure we're not missing anything merch wise, I've collected a few images from folks kind enough to post updates from various tour locations.

It seems the US festivals (and some European stops) used a red shirt instead of black for the backwards N design. Otherwise, there haven't been any other variations or additions from the festival leg.

Here's a quick recap with my shitty pictures. I haven't gone through the thread for better ones yet since ETS was down.

I hope they keep the red shirt for the US tour later this month. I'm going to burn all my money on merch regardless, but that one especially is the one I would really love to own.

The red shirt just had the festival dates, I'm guessing a new design comes for Tension.

A tour merchandise stand will open at 4:30PM, weather permitting, outside the venue for those looking to purchase merchandise with time to place it in their vehicle or elsewhere before entering the show. In addition to regular tour merchandise, there will be a limited number of art posters only available for sale at this location (not inside the venue) with a limit of one art poster per customer.

Just got my email for my presale tickets and this very interesting little note popped up. Exclusive pre-show tent posters?!

Also lets talk about merch here?

With the announcement of the outside arena merch booth, I would like to ask that folks try and get a pic of the interior merch as well for the first few shows to make sure there aren't any other exclusive items (especially if you have reserved seats).

Shit, didn't realize this thread existed when I made my thread. Guess we can ignore mine.

Anyways, is it bad i'm almost more excited about the merch than I am for the show? I wonder what "big" item they have planned, usually they have a jacket, or a bag or something that's priced pretty high.

My favorite piece of merch was the fragility 2.0 booklet/program. I know that wasnt super expensive, but I would love another book like that. I have the with teetha era one as well.

I am trying to remember what the high end item was from the fragile era. The only thing from the last few tours I can think of were the jackets and hoodies.

The military style shirt and shorts. I got the shirt, still have it. Basically just an off the shelf standard black military shirt (Propper brand I believe) with a NIN patch and an Object tag. I might end up finally selling mine later this year. I have a box of about 40 NIN shirts that I never wear, was waiting for NIN to come back before I started selling parts of my collection.

The dudes are still setting up the "outside" merch booth (with a bit of a surly attitude). There are a shittonne of black shirts (and 2 girl sized). A black zip hoodie, a grey beanie, a NIN logo metal keychain, and 2 posters ($15 but no tubes). Prices aren't up yet.

If anybody who was there knows-

what is shirt R? I would assume that drappy thing was part of the graphic, but at $65 maybe not.

Also (and maybe more importantly) are P, Q, and R girl's shirts? P looks like it might be the best of the bunch, so of course it would have to be a girl shirt, wouldn't it?

Thanks.

Oh come on, there are so few girl's shirts available that I think we deserve something nice :p

I think R is a long sleeve tee or thermal and the drapey thing is the sleeves tied in a knot at the front. That would explain the higher price.

I'm not really feeling the designs this tour. They kind of look like bootleg shirts imo :(. Maybe they look better in reality, as opposed to a pic?

I have nothing against girls shirts. But why do the designs have to be exclusive? I just think that's by far the best of the designs, and if it is in fact a girl shirt (as it appears to be)- it will not look good on me. :P

I have to admit, I'm mildly underwhelmed by the shirts. We got what I think is the best NIN art since around TDS and The Fragile, I was hoping to see it expressed a little more so in the t-shirts. I'm now actually hoping for those bad knock off you see sometimes where someone just sticks the album cover on a t-shirt. Put the general release cover on a red shirt, or the digital release on a black shirt and you've got something that blows all of these away.

These aren't bad. I'm still going to get one. I was just hoping for more.

Amaro

Is the vinyl cover shirt as bootleg-y in real life as it looks on here? The NIN block on the front makes it appear awkward. :\

R looks cool, I wonder if it can at least pass as unisex...

What is the whole column between P & N all about? (Priced at $20, $15, and $15.)

Edit: RE: self Oh, maybe opening band shit...

I'm a little disappointed, too. Only three non-black shirts, half of the designs have teeth (they REALLY creep me out), hardly anything with the corner N logo which I love, only 2-3 women's shirts and nothing printed on the backs. I do really like R so I hope it's a women's shirt... but $65, wow.

At one point the corner NIN logo was available in NIN.com in red (I was lucky enough to get one when I ordered Hesitation Marks)- maybe they'll go back up. People seem to be lusting over them on the boards. I did very recently (this week?) see what's presumably a knock off on ebay available in your choice of about 6 colors and sizes. Obviously the real thing would be cooler- but having it in hand I can't see any reason why it would be difficult to replicate.

I do have one of those, fortunately! I was hoping they would sell a version with Tension tour dates, like they did for the festival shows. Oh well, at least this way I'll end up with two completely different shirts.

so the "art poster" they speak of in the email is just the generic tour poster?

pretty disappointed if that's the case. was hoping for show specific posters.

I was excited at the prospect of a new teeth & salt shirt, but it's the 'new' design of the shirt, with the much smaller print. I still have my original teeth & salt shirt, and I love how huge the print is. The second run (and now, this third run) just don't carry the same weight, to me.

@kevinbeetle (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/member.php?u=1013) I hope i'm wrong, because the prices on this merch this year is astronomical...
$15 for a metal keychain? I've bought about 5 pewter keychains like that for other bands at their shows and they never exceed $7..and for $15 you usually get an actual screen printed litho when other bands sell prints that high, not a mass print.

Maybe i'm just being a vagina about it.

Glad I got the red shirt at the MIA Fest, cause all this stuff looks pretty hideous. I'd have to agree with the person who said it looks like bootleg designs, as that's the first thing I thought when I saw it. I'll buy a poster or two, but that's it. Makes me wonder if Rob was too busy with the tour production to design the merch. I can't image that he designed this stuff, maybe someone at the record company did it?

I wonder how many variants of the tour date poster there'll end up being? I hope LA/Vegas get a cool one.

On the upside, the show exclusive HM posters aren't as fancy as say the HTDA lithos, and my bank account thanks NIN. On the downside, that pricey hoodie looks awesomely irresistible. I'm also in for a keychain and touque. (Sorry, I speak Canadian.)

I foresee a lot of this stuff up for sale on NIN.com later this year.
I think I actually liked a lot of the festival merch better.

Of course, that will probably change when I'm standing in front of the booth.
Hell, its changing as I type this post.

Whats funny about this shirt, (besides the obvious horrendous design) is that back in the day, when iTunes first launched (when it was just a player and not a store) Trent had his own radio station, and EVERY time i tuned to it, he was playing Outkast.

I attended the St. Paul and the Kansas City shows and both times, unfortunately, I did not realize there were limited edition posters (only picked up the posters with the tour dates on it. Does anyone happen to have an extra limited edition poster from each of those 2 shows they would be willing to sell and part ways with? If so, just PM me. Thank you so much.

It's a normal non thermal material and it's more of a unisex cut.

also all shirts are the same material as the nin preorder Ts, next level. Nice quality, similar to American apparel.

I was reluctant to spend $45 on a beanie until I felt the quality. It is way nicer than any other band beanie I have seen/tried on. The material is sturdy feeling yet soft and pliable. It is a bit bigger than the standard beanie too... wouldnt go as far as calling it a slouchy beanie... but there is a bit of excess material with my entire head covered. Tag says it is made by District in case anyone is wondering.

I'm sorry but NIN, especially for a band that is so conscious of design and artwork when it comes to album art and stage set up, has some of most consistently lame merchandise of any major rock band. Extremely bland, with many of the same designs being resold for 20 years straight. Many shirts barely have anything on them, the logo is quite often tiny and then they charge 40 dollars for them. Ridiculous.

i have an issue for $40 t-shirts. that's pretty steep imo. just went to a Depeche Mode concert and they were charging the same amount for their t-shirts so its not just a NIN thing.
but at the same time, the merch booth was practically empty at the DM concert and understandably so. i didn't buy any merch since i don't collect DM stuff. it the t-shirts would have been $25, i probably would have picked a t-shirt for me and my wife.

Yeah and they had quite the production this year, the most elaborate they've had yet,

This whole "but it's cause of TR's production and his wife and kids to support" excuse is bullshit.....

I've seen people complain about the prices of shirts for years now. I don't get it. I'd pay £25 for a top in any high street shop. I don't know how any band would have high quality shirts with well-printed designs (even if they're aesthetically gross) and manage to charge £13/$25 for them. NIN shirts are cheap from what I see.

I guess it just depends on one's style and social status.. or maybe the prices you're used to in your region.

For me I'm not much of a fashion person and pretty much all i wear are bands shirts and pop culture stuff..., i don't wear designer bullshit and no shirt that i have ever purchased was more than $20-$30 unless it was a dress shirt for something formal.....

People talk about the quality of shirts.... maybe that has more leaning on the fit but what the heck do people do... go sky diving and wrestling in the mud wearing your NIN shirts? I've rarely had a shirt suddenly fall apart on me it's not like they're made of straw. Most of what I've ever purchased has lasted me quite a while, obviously anything gets worn over time but that's usually when it's time to retire the thing anyways.

My lights in the sky shirts from a while back were printed/shrunk so unevenly the nin logo became italicised and one sleeve was about a half inch longer than the other.
Both shirts, it was nuts.

But the shirts this year are top notch so at least you're getting quality with your high prices.

I certainly don't mind $40 for a nice shirt, especially now that most t-shirts are thin, disposable crap, but I'm reluctant to spend that much on one that I can't try on first (at least I assume there's no way to do that) and that I can't return.

The people working the outdoor booth in Kansas City let us try on shirts/the jacket on top of what we were wearing (eh, better than a total 'will it fit' mystery), but not sure if they continued with that as they got busier later.

Keep in mind that there are a lot of hands in the pie when it comes to tour merch. Including the venue. The bigger the venue the more they charge an artist. So it isn't like the $40 per shirt is going straight into Trent's pockets. It's probably not even half of it at the end of the day.

This is a good read.

I'll be at Monday's. It's mostly academic now. I just keep hoping for some sign they've made the general release cd cover into a poster. I LOVE that art. I'm very disapointed there's no meaningful representation of it on a shirt. (I know the red lines on the one- but it's not even close to enough)

Maybe I'm the only one interested in such a thing here, but where are the kids shirts? I've got a little guy at home, and my friend bought me a DIY NIN onesie when he was an infant, since there is no such thing. He's like a 2T now.

I mean, Trent's got a couple of little guys of his own, so I was hoping just maybe he'd cater to some of us other parents out there...

Just today, I received my nin.com e-mail for the Barclays show and they mentioned the special merch booth that will have "limited edition art posters". At the moment, there's only four posters out there, right? The two tension posters with the dates and the two Hesitation Marks posters with the different album covers.
Am I missing something?

Ryan Tollefson
10-09-2013, 05:26 AM
Nope. That is correct. There are actually two different versions of the date poster with the thermometer things, (picture on the inside of standard cd). The first run was missing the Toronto date, and was fixed for the Toronto showhttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/09/yna3uby4.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/09/gahyze6u.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/09/2uva6uny.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/09/pydybyju.jpg

I checked out the gray women's long sleeve- it really IS ridiculously slim. I normally wear a medium so I thought I'd be fine with a large, but even that looked two sizes too small for me. The design in the logo was pretty neat but the fabric was really thin and the arms had a weird pattern that I didn't like, almost camo-looking.

I ended up buying a men's small in the gray "teeth" tee instead and I'm really happy with it. The printing looks great and the fabric is super soft and seems like pretty nice quality.

picking out a tour shirt was tough since, 1) they're all pretty pricey and 2) none of them really stand out. i can honestly say that this has been the most unimpressive lineup of tour shirts that nin has put out.

Even though I'm not a fan of most of the merch designs this time around, I've still never seen a bootleg shirt I've liked enough to wear for free, let alone pay for. But that's probably the artist snob in me. I mean honestly, a fan designed shirt would look better. AND have the CURRENT band lineup and album era design.

Up in Canada, $30-35 for an official tour shirt would be a STEAL. Shirts up here are usually $5-10 more than in the USA. Our tour t-shirt prices are usually $40-45. Usually closer to $40. So $40 for a t-shirt is a pretty standard price if you ask me.

I once paid $50 for a TOOL tour t-shirt up here. I don't think i'll be doing that again.

I got the shirts I bought online on Friday. They are fantastic quality and the thin, soft material. Still thinking $40 for two was a much better deal than $40-$45 for one.

I was going to buy merch at my last show in Portland last week but then I went and lost my bank card in Vegas and couldn't buy anything :(

I hope excess merch will be put up online.

Sorry for pulling this out of the graveyard, but saw this in the auction thread and thought I'd post it for posterity. Someone on eBay was selling this production crew embroidered tension hoodie:

If I could get that embroidery pattern on the 2014 zip up hoodie, I would have easily spent $50 on it (not a fan of pull-over hoodies).

Saw this on eBay, but I don't remember it from the Staples Center (granted, it was 7 years ago). Not sure if it's a HQ bootleg, or something that was very limited. Regardless, I thought I'd post it here for posterity.

Bringing back a dead thread to clarify a little info. Admins don't be mad at me, just haven't had internet for 8 months.

I will say that I enjoy this design a lot. But it is a bootleg. I bought one up from a guy on Facebook in 2019 who said it was legit. When I got it, it was on a heavy weight cotton shirt (Alstyle brand) and the ink was pretty thick. All indications of merch from that time period and discussions with people who were there say it wasn't anywhere to be seen at the merch booth.

The design was originally sold in the UK but someone thought it would be cool to have a Staples Center version of it. I paid $30 for mine. The original design can be seen on the first page of this thread and what the North American approximation would have looked like if it went beyond the LA date.
