I still think it should open the Tension tour and Trent should descend on stage via a giant, glitter-covered satellite with ten backing dancers.

And a seamless transition into "My Love" while JT emerges from below the stage

Nothing wrong with JT. He is probably one of the most talented pop artists around. And his tunes are catchy as shit. I have no shame for my JT love!

JT's latest album is one of the best of the year.

SM Rollinger

He is a good actor too.

I had hoped the first time I saw Social Network, that he would bust into dance during the drinking scene where "Magnetic" was used, but alas :(

Satellite is one of my least favorite tracks from HM.

Nothing to do with the beat or any of that.

Personally I like Satellite. It's like the long lost cousin of Year Zero, and it's awesome. Timberlake on the other hand can eat a bag of dicks.

when i put on the cd, i skip to satellite to start and listen to it from there. and im fine with that.

This song is fucking epic. Proves NIN is still a pop/dance entity with very dark undertones.

Ok guys, ive been posting in this thread this whole time without hearing the song...

This song is fuckin' epic! What a tease it would have been if it appeared on the greatest hits comp first.

No doubt, Trent should have just got JT to do back up vox on this one, they should re-record it for video version, with Trent doing the call parts, and JT do the responses.

EndlessLoveless
09-03-2013, 06:01 AM
Holy shit, you guys got it all wrong...i'll say it again...satellite doesnt sound like justin timerlake, justin timberlake sounds like nin- and has for awhile. That whole "timba-land" produced sound is totally taken from nin's use of electronics and glitch and industrial noises... TR is just taking it back. I wasnt a huge fan of satellite until the last few minutes kicked in. Then it fucking killed. Now i cant get it out of my head.

utterben
09-03-2013, 06:06 AM
It's a standout song on the album, I think. And you don't really have to worry about identifying with the lyrics because it's just about goddamn satellites.

Huh I don't get the JT hate, is it because he was in a boy band? I was the same way too for a while, fuck JT! He was in a boy band! But then over the years I saw him for what he is, a super talented motherfucker. Not only that but he's a pretty funny guy and one of those rare super popular people that doesn't take himself too seriously. The dude knows how to laugh and have a fun time, and has no problem poking fun at himself. Ever see him on SNL? He also brought sexy back, it was lost and he found it. Much respect for JT.

Sarah K

Seriously... A JT and Trent collab would be all the foreplay I would need for the rest of my life.

Dragonkaos
09-03-2013, 01:49 PM
I like the song, not of my favourites of the album, can be a radio pop/dance song, the lyrics are so basics but got a dark side, for my with some changes can be a PHM song perfectly.

SM Rollinger
09-03-2013, 05:54 PM
The lyrics remind me of something that should have been written for Year Zero. That ever present OMNI-BEAT doesnt help either...

And the guitar in the last part of the song, sounds alot like guitar from The Mark Has Been Made, fuckin' badass!

09-03-2013, 11:53 PM
Satellite is a great fucking song...and i love the lyrics...it's like "yeah, you're watching me...but i'm one step ahead of you."

And i love anything Timbaland touches. A TR/Timbaland collabo would be the shit.

I fucking love this track. Plus, I hope the band plays it live. I can imagine that there's some fans that are willing to get down during the song. It's cool that we headbang sometimes but we need the rest of the human body to move as well.

I don't even know of this "JT" of which you speak, so all your arguments are invalid. As for mine, I think it's a killer track, and would make a great single to further promote HM.

Well, I just listened to the album again today and this song has been stuck in my head ever since. Seriously, it is one of my favorites. I can't get that last minute or so out of my head! "I know you're up there somewhere." I just love those ending chords, and the vocal melody. But of course, I love the whole thing, too.

And yeah - I'll be dancing to this the minute I hear it live, if it is played at whatever show I can go to. ;)

The second half of this song is one of the best moments on the album.

joplinpicasso
09-06-2013, 05:25 PM
I've warmed up to this song! The second chorus has such a PHM feel but the production is completely modern NIN. Is the song about YZ-type surveillance or pensively waiting to find someone to bring happiness/romance/other? Or a weird metaphor for both?

I remember somebody saying that Satellite had a Michael Jackson vibe to it. However, I'm not sure if that was on here on YouTube. That part of it, I forgot, and it could've been both sites. I would agree in a way, but if anything, perhaps it would also be accurate to mention Prince was well? (If I've remembered correctly, isn't Trent also a fan of Prince? I sometimes forget about that.)
