Ice cream has been my friend lately.
This is great because, ice cream.
This is bad because sugar+fat=EVIL.

Here's what I've been digging lately:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N28lc3Brgk4/USl1eDKoAUI/AAAAAAAAIog/gNARRdtOA-I/s1600/ben+jerrys+chocolate+peppermint+crunch+ice+cream+p int.jpg

Talenti are doing pretty well topping my league of real ice cream (meaning without the fake crap in it):

http://dixiedining.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/dble-ch.jpg

This summer I had my first Salty Pimp from The Big Gay Ice Cream Store, which was fucking amazing:
http://biggayicecream.squarespace.com/storage/treats/0308_01_2.jpg
http://biggayicecream.com/treats/

Also discovered this place in Brooklyn which has an ice cream called Salted Crack Caramel which is insanely good and gave me a sort of transcendental experience. http://www.amplehills.com

And here's a blog I found researching this thread: http://www.onsecondscoop.com

I've had that gelato stuff before; it's pretty darned good! I'm an ice cream fan for sure. I tend to go for simpler flavors and I'm not a fan of chunks of stuff in my ice cream, but I've made exceptions (like Breyer's Blasts Reese's ice cream). One of my new favorites is pretty simple: half vanilla, half chocolate. Love it!

Ive always love Blue Bunny brand Mint Chip ice cream, and a good rainbow sherbet from time to time.

I bought a Ben and Jerry's pint last night funnily enough. Phish Food. never had I before but it was good for what little I had last night.

stoneridge creamery has some great-textured ice cream that comes in a variety of delicious flavors. lately i've been particularly digging their chocolate peanut butter stars.

but i'm also always a fan of chubby hubby by ben & jerry's.

Yeah I make ice cream out of coconut milk or goats milk yogurt pretty often to mostly delicious effect!

yes.

i had a bone marrow and smoked cherry wafflecone in portland last year. no joke, totally amazing.

my usual go-to is breyer's all-natural mint chocolate chip. it's only got, like, four ingredients, y'all.

I make ice cream from frozen bananas.I did this earlier in year when I tried to only eat Paleo. It was surprisingly good. I usually slice up an over ripe banana and put them the freezer to make smoothies with - this time I just spun the banana in the blender without anything else - it was good. I wonder if a less ripe one would be as good?

Gelato is where it's really at.

"gelato's not vegan?"

"milk 'n' eggs, bitch!"

seriously, though, gelato is fucking fantastic. there's a gelato place a few blocks from my apartment and it's the bee's knees.

i know people hate mcdonalds but their dipped cone is amazing, especially when the chocolate is still warm, plus its only 99 cents and the ice cream taste pretty sweet as well.

Neither is my partner, but I am, so we disagree about ice cream.

Just tried this today and it was delicious. I never knew about it!

What's the difference? Gelato is Italian for ice cream.

gelato contains both milk & eggs, and is baked before being frozen. it also generally has considerably less fat/calories than ice cream (not that i give two shits about that aspect).

Soft serve frozen custard is my favorite. There are (soft serve) frozen custard stands ALL OVER Michigan but none in the Chicago area. When I go home to Detroit, the first thing I eat is frozen custard. (Then I get a coney dog.)

i was going to say there's culver's, but it's only decent. nothing like authentic frozen custard.

andy's frozen custard on church street in downtown evanston was a regular spot for me when i still lived there. the first time i went, i got a small james brownie funky jackhammer concrete and i couldn't even finish it because it was so rich and delicous.

scooter's frozen custard at belmont & paulina (i've only been once) is amazing.

i also need to check out lickety split, which is on broadway, i think, in uptown. they apparently have a concrete that contains AN ENTIRE CUPCAKE.

edit: should have posted this in the chicago thread, i guess...

It's not soft serve frozen custard; it's not the same thing that we get in Michigan. A store owner at one of the custard stores here in Chicago tried to convince me that hard-serve custard was better than soft-serve custard. Sorry, nope, no comparison, the hard-serve sucks in comparison.

You guys don't have ERMA'S (http://www.ermascustard.com/history.php). *sniffle I gotta go home*

I really think that my all time top four favorite flavors of ice cream would have to be mint chocolate chip, cookies and cream, chocolate chip cookie dough, and just good old chocolate ice cream. I also love root beer floats whenever I'm into the mood for them as well. I like to mix those flavors with Mug Root Beer or A&W Root Beer when I actually make them, and I also use vanilla ice cream whenever I just want a regular root beer float.

I picked up some Strawberry Cheesecake the other day. I'll let you know how it is later on, but it was from, like, Aldi or Lidl so I'm expecting "acceptable but not great".

and it's pretty disappointing: basically vanilla ice cream with some overly pasty blondie bits and nondescript toffee chips.
But, on the other hand this Stracciatella Gelato is delicious and creamy with some super yummy choc flakes

Coffee ice cream is the bomb.

Also, my sister sent this to me in an email and now I've gotta go there...(someday): Yelp page because nearly 3,000 photos of ice creamy/cake goodness. (http://www.yelp.com/biz/milk-los-angeles-5) They also have a main website. (http://www.themilkshop.com/)

Big Gay Ice Cream for the fucking win. Their awesomesauce is... well, awesome. Spicy chocolate sauce.

I've had Talenti's Salted Caramel and dug it.

Now, I need to make my way out to Emack and Bolio's (http://www.emackandbolios.com/). Especially since I have a free date there from How About We if I want.

ive been fucking up and actually eating ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner since i got hurt. idk why...i just want it. Braums (a little ice cream place out texas and oklahoma way if you dont know) concocted a hot chocolate ice cream. Somehow, it tastes JUST like hot chocolate. It even has the little marshmellows. They also made a birthday cake ice cream that's so amazing. not only does it have cake pieces in it, bites of the ice cream are somehow chewy like cake.

But the Worst (best) is a flavor from regular old blue bell. it's called Banana Pudding, and oh lord, YES, its what you expect. Ice cream that's lightly banana flavored with pudding ripples and LOTS of vanilla wafer pieces.

I actually had to stop buying it. i found myself taking a half full tub to my room with a spoon...bordering on food addiction, no?
fuck that!

I recently had a little ice cream kick where I tried a few local offerings but was quite surprised when the plain chocolate whole foods came out on top. Its pretty cheap too, compared to Ben & Jerry's and the local stuff.

lastly I was quite disappointed with Toscanini's ice cream. It was very icy which affected the texture and my enjoyment. All I ever hear is positive reviews of their ice cream so maybe I just got a bad pint. I will have to go to the actual store and try it from the source next time.

I'm not a big fan of ice cream with chunks of stuff in it, i like the pure flavoured kind.

Right now I'm eating a bowl of Breyer's Creamsicle.

I really liked Nestle's PARLOUR Chocolate Peanut Butter but it's been discontinued :(

I also dig some Tiger Tail now and then.

has anyone else tried the new b&j's pint slices? they're...fine. it's basically an ice cream bar without a stick. my two main issues are that i only got about four globs of cookie dough in my whole slice, and $5 for only THREE pint slices is a bit steep, especially since they're not THAT big.
