I think these may have been for promotional use and some of y'all jumped to the conclusion that it was for our preorders... which really never made sense. But I could be wrong.

Good catch, the plastic was taken off so the actual cover could be signed. From the comments here, it seems like a sales promotion (probably based on retailers buying a certain quantity, buy x and get signed copy), not a surprise giveaway.

Modlife/Columbia wouldn't ship them all the way from Memphis or wherever they're pressed to LA then back to the distribution place just so TR could sneaky sign a few, surely?
