This guy apparently heard the track on Friday (http://www.rock951online.com/topic/station_blog.php):

"Today, I will hear the new Nine Inch Nails tune, which I am very much looking forward to."
I'll be surprised if it doesn't leak before the supposed June 6th release date.

where is this supposed June 6th date coming from?

It's not confirmed by anyone yet, but antiquiet posted about it a month ago when we thought there were only going to be two new NIN songs. http://www.antiquiet.com/news/2013/05/new-nine-inch-nails-song-arriving-june-6/
Now in theory, a new song on thursday could happen with a release of US tour dates.

thanks for clearing that up for me.

It's weird because it was played once during the Festival 2013 shows, so it can definitely be played because it has a production setting.

To quote him, I guess playing songs that people really want to see "doesn't feel right".
Better make sure to play hand that feeds every single show though.

take out some amount of THTF, Only, MotP, Piggy, Gave Up, Closer, Terrible Lie, 1,000,00, & Hurt and replace them with anything else (there are plenty of "hit" or well-known songs that can replace those: Sin, Down In It, SICNH, Discipline, Suck, Reptile, Burn, YKWYA) & everyone would be happy.

I think the "setlist aware" crowd has all but given up on unique setlists this tour. Maybe next time when Trent feels like he has something to prove we'll have something fun to look forward to, never knowing exactly what we'll get.

From a new Amanda Palmer AMA;

"Did you spend much time talking with Trent R when touring with him in 2005?"

"very, very little. a few conversations. trent was very hide-y on that tour. he almost never came out of his dressing room. it was his first tour back, and first tour sober. i think he was just trying desperately to focus on getting it right. but he was really nice to us. i felt so honored that he'd invited us."

QFT. Not that I'm gonna feel sorry for Lakers fans since they have a championship in just about every decade of their existance, but...

If TR did the Star-Spangled Banner before a Staples Center game, how do people think he'd do it? Obviously not gonna go into his inner-Hendrix and start a guitar on fire after a great solo or anything. Maybe just start a sampler/tape by pressing play? :P Or a TGD version 2014 summer tour would be fucking awesome, lmao!

Does every album have to be x's 'best work' though? I prefer HM to Broken and think its the best since The Fragile but i would doubt TR will ever get to quite the DS / TF highs though again, although I'd hope to be proved wrong. The guy is also talking as if The Fragile was his last album, I wonder what he thought of the Slip for example and had his expectations lowered because of that?

Sure it doesn't. Fe. I know With Teeth isn't best NIN album, but I enjoy it thoroughly. I can't say the same about HM. Saying it isn't Trent's best work was pretty much just an euphemism for "I don't like this album very much and I think HM along with Slip are my least favourite NIN albums"

From Gwent Stefani's FB "On my way to apple launch w dr dre (https://www.facebook.com/gwenstefani/photos/a.10151329855804873.493794.19074699872/10152827576029873/?type=1&permPage=1)"

Looking at Dre's body language, it looks like he's uncomfortable standing and talking to her because the plane's roof is so low. He interrupts her and tries an introduction as an excuse to sit down and fob off the conversation on someone else he's vaguely acquainted with through their prior work.

"Uh-huh, yeah, yeah, I feel you. Anyhow, lemme introduce you over here to my man TR..."

She doesn't remember the subsequent conversation, or never asks her publicist or whoever it is that took this photo to take another with the two of them.

Stephen Dorff is a fan of Trent's scoring work. He mentions it in this interview.

Aaand it's already been debunked by Apple.

Beats Music is way better than Pandora/Spotify in my opinion, and we got HTDA/NIN/TR&AR/tours while he was developing it in the first place, so I'm pretty sure y'all don't have to worry about it stealing Trent's attention away from his own music.

Aaand it's already been debunked by Apple.

I believe you, but it would be really helpful if you'd link to something.

Re/code spoke to Apple's PR rep, who refuted the story (http://recode.net/2014/09/22/apples-beats-music-brand-may-go-away-apples-beats-music-service-is-sticking-around/)

Someone named anonmusicguy posted on Hacker News: "Apple will rename Beats to something else (tbd) -- it will become Apple's streaming service." (I think they should call Apple's streaming service "Lala" but that would just be mean)

Given this story and the earlier flub by USA Today that Beats was laying off Trent Reznor, I suspect the politics in Apple's music division is really fucking gross right now.

Update: Apple has told Re/code that the Beats brand may go away, confirming my report. However, it wants to stay in streaming music, as we suspected.

So, it seems like conflicting information at this point.

Steve Jobs never liked subscription music (http://www.tuaw.com/2014/05/19/steve-jobs-was-never-a-fan-of-subscription-music/). Beats deal probably mostly about talent acquisition (http://www.businessweek.com/news/2014-05-29/apple-beats-deal-headphones-cool-factor-talent). Steve Jobs' name is still on the door, and his office was left untouched (http://www.georgianewsday.com/news/regional/289279-steve-jobs-office-is-exactly-how-he-left-it-reveals-tim-cook-emotional-apple-ceo-says-i-literally-think-about-him-every-day.html). "[Cook] said he doesn't want to deviate from Jobs' strategy to 'only enter areas where we can control the primary technology.'" Guessing this means they're gonna somehow mash Beats into iTunes somewhere? So it's all iTunes with the streaming just another button in iTunes?

Human curation that doesn't deviate from Captain Jobs' steering the ship from the grave (urn), natch. 'Cause the second that happens, watch that ship sink. Kinda like post-9/16/85. Jobs' business plan is still in action. Buying a company and simply slapping the Apple name on it sure don't seem like something Jobs would do, that's for sure.

Notable among that list: iTunes, Final Cut Pro, iAd, Logic Pro
But "derived product" is not the same thing as slapping the Apple name on something without making any changes (like Adobe did with Aldus Pagemaker (http://history-computer.com/ModernComputer/Software/Pagemaker.html)). Look at the individual products on that list, like Swell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swell_Radio). Or even nEXT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NeXT) which was Jobs' own company prior to his return to Apple and he was using UNIX. But that wasn't simply slapping the Apple name on it and rolling it out as that same exact thing. They didn't simply slap the iTunes name on SoundJam, either (http://www.maclife.com/article/feature/complete_itunes_history_soundjam_mp_itunes_9). "While the terms of the contract were top secret (Casady and Greene discontinued their app on June 1, 2001, but were barred from discussing the Apple deal for two years), Apple certainly wasn’t shy about ransacking SoundJam as it incorporated many of its signature features into iTunes, including visualizers, plug-ins, online retrieval of album data and drag-and-drop playlist creation. Much to the dismay of Jelly fans, however, Apple opted to leave SoundJam’s skins on the cutting-room floor." See also this (http://archive.fortune.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2005/02/21/8251769/index.htm). I mean, none of it was like this (http://spectrum.ieee.org/computing/software/did-bill-gates-steal-the-heart-of-dos).

I dunno why iWork is on that list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IWork) since Apple paid another company to develop something. Same thing with stuff like Siri (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siri). Apple paid a company to develop it; in legal terms, that's not an "acquisition (http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Corporate+acquisition)."

Read Wiki's source material (5): http://www.advfn.com/nasdaq/StockNews.asp?stocknews=NUAN&article=41425250&headline=siri-inc-launches-do-engine-application-for-iphone. Wikipedia sites the app, but then doesn't site the acquisition. Why not? And are you using this to further demonstrate that Apple will release Beats as-is untouched by Apple? Look, I'm playing devil's advocate, here, but my point is that Wikipedia tells half the story, and sucks, because regular people are editing it. Steve Jobs heard about SIRI, hounded those guys for 6 months, wanted in on the development and wanted to bring those guys on board at Apple. Not just about "product," but (more) about talent. He didn't just write checks for product. As you know, SIRI kinda sucks, and now Steve would be probably firing people.

Anyway, hopefully Tim Cook finds a way to utilize the Beats money spent in a way that benefits the shareholders and the brand. Mazel tov to him, Iovine, et al. Without further derailing this thread with useless business shit.

A lot of musicians are still capable of putting on a good show well after fifty. The problem with many is that they don't have a realistic assessment of what they can't do on stage. Say what you want about trent but he's always been able to do that. Look at all the fan favorite songs he never/rarely plays live because he doesn't think they work.

You're right, I hope he follows through this time. I'm sure I've seen interviews from the 90s where he talked about going out with just a piano or something. I don't see why he can't trial it in LA first to see if it works

Really Bill, Really!?! weren't you the one totally bitching about NIN changing, BACKUP SINGERS BACKUP SINGERS!!! you were screaming for a nostalgia tour, now because Trent actually listened to fans like you you're going to bitch at him for not taking risks?
Damn did Trent steal your girlfriend or something? Did you get rocks in you bag when you trick or treated at Trent's house?

Saw an older (as in, not 20s) tattooed guy in a NIN 2014 Live shirt at the airport. Sort of a "tough guy" look to him.

He then proceeded, completely unsolicited, to approach an elderly man with what appeared to be a blind man's cane and helped him down the jetbridge and loaded his bag into the overhead bin.

Made me smile.

Cool! Out of curiosity what airport was it? I travel quite a bit for work and just wondering....

Not sure if it's NIN spotting but Adrian Belew is doing a lot of interviews regarding his Power Trio tour and FLUX project, he opens up about the Tension tour
Personally I think Everything sounds very "Belewish" to me, maybe the original backlash made both parties reconsider, just my .02

Belew wouldn't be the first person to turn down a role in NIN because he didn't want to perform someone elses songs for that long

Here's the TDS 10th anniversary overlaid against the original CD release. March of the Pigs was perhaps a bad choice, as it relies very heavily on dramatic changes in dynamics, which are more evident when you zoom in. Closer, on the other hand, seem to be much more full-on.

I don't think I can recall posting this before either. Jim Norton also doesn't seem to like Nine Inch Nails at all. The other time that Nine Inch Nails was mentioned was when Ministry's Al Jourgensen made a guest appearance on their show.

"In 1967, John Lennon wrote a song called, “All You Need is Love.” He also beat both of his wives, abandoned one of his children,
verbally abused his gay Jewish manager with homophobic and anti-semitic slurs, and once had a camera crew film him lying naked in his bed for an entire day.
Thirty-five years later, Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails wrote a song called “Love is Not Enough.” Reznor, despite being famous for his shocking stage performances
and his grotesque and disturbing videos, got clean from all drugs and alcohol, married one woman, had two children with her, and then cancelled entire albums and tours
so that he could stay home and be a good husband and father.
One of these two men had a clear and realistic understanding of love. One of them did not.
One of these men idealized love as the solution to all of his problems. One of them did not.
One of these men was probably a narcissistic asshole. One of them was not."

Who knows? I bet he did, Cash was open about being a fan of all sorts of diverse music. Said something to the effect of "a good song is a good song, doenst matter who wrote it." I tried doing a quick search to find something concreate, but no luck. I found this quote from Trent though about the video...

I pop the video in, and wow... Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps... Wow. I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore... It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. [I]I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure.

And yeah, since Cash struggled with addiction his whole life, I think he knew what the song was about and where TR was coming from when he wrote it.

edit: Anyways, I hope you can find that bootleg, there isnt many Pantera audio boots out there and Id love to hear that. Official Live (one of the best live records IMO) and the "High Voltage" boot are the only live stuff i have. Also, on the topic of Pantera/NIN I still believe that Trent has uncredited work on GSTK. The synth parts on the record and Phil's vocals (the delivery and effects layering ect.)

AT&T Uverse has a Santa tracker channel. Here is the "naughty or nice" game that you (or your kids, heh) can partake in. Channel 1098... (Bit of a stretch but me and the gf noticed it right away- I'm surprised she saw what I saw)

We live in a world where Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has heard music made by Reznor & Ross. I'm so stupidly happy. And I want Reznor and Yasutaka Nakata (her producer) to meet so fucking much.

Trent hires Beck guy, Trent hires brother of Green Day live member ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Freese ), Trent hires guitarist of sworn rival, Manson, Trent hires [fill in other here]

To be fair though none of those are the joke that LB is to most people. And for the record Jeordie White was the bassist for Manson, he wasn't a guitarist until rejoining in 2008 and now is back on bass again because he can't play guitar to save his life. Not to mention by the time Trent hired him he'd already been out of Manson for several years and a part of APC. Not that I'm arguing or anything, but there is definitely a difference between hiring someone's relative and hiring the guitarist for a band that is to this day regarded as an utter joke.

None of those names are quite as tainted as Limp Bizkit, though. But we'll probably never know what it'd be like.

The "first" webmaster of the NIN site does a sort of AMA on Reddit:

http://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/2uzieg/til_after_thinking_johhny_cash_covering_his_song/cod2q8f

Really curious as to who this guy is. I totally give him the benefit of the doubt, but unless he's Jason Patterson, who I think lives and works in New York, I have no idea who the guy is. Edit: He says he's not Patterson, but knows of him. Now I'm super curious! Edit2: Predates Jason Patterson, and his work never went live. Too much information to deal with. Naturally, I'm asking if he'd be interested in sharing.

^^^those photos don't display for me for some reason, but I am on my iPad. (are they michael Keaton or Christian bale - would be interesting if it was Adam West!)

Yesterday my husband read an interview with Simon Le Bon in Metro where he mentions that he was surprised that Trent was influenced by them and that he turns up to their shows in disguise! (he said he was proud of that too!) he didn't bring the paper home though so I can't scan unfortunately

I remember that time a pretty stupid 20-year-old me decided to call Wes Borland a sell-out on twitter, to Danny Lohner, before I ever put any real thought to it.

https://twitter.com/FernandoDante/status/403077865676800

Then Wes actually saw the tweet, even though I didn't mention him directly.

https://twitter.com/wesborland/status/426029730496512

And we proceeded to have a Twitter conversation that lasted through the night, on the merits of Limp Bizkit, NIN, and other bands. My main argument was that he was wasting time with Durst / Bizkit, and that Black Light Burns was an infinitely superior band. His argument was that Durst is part of what makes Bizkit the band it is, and he wouldn't change a thing about it. I got to understand really well where he was coming from, and he didn't even need to bring up the financial side of it. It's like he'll defend the band and his work without really saying whether he likes the music or not, and that's cool. In the end, I got a ton of respect for the guy and understood more about the industry and musicians, and he started following me on twitter the next morning. And continued to do so for like 3 years, I have no idea how.

So, yeah, judging music based on what you like/dislike is probably easier and more fair than judging the musicians themselves. For most people, making a buck in the music industry is really hard. Let them do it.

I have to agree with this. It really bugs me when people bash on limp bizkit. Significant other is a tremendous album.

You must be trolling........I should find some of the 20 interviews Trent did around 99/2000 where he said Limp Bizkit were a piece of shit band.....It was frat boy jock rap rock made by retards and catered to retards...Limp Bizkit and that entire rap metal scene were the motley crues and warrants of the late 90's/early 2000s....

Do you automatically love and hate every band that trent loves and hates? That's just, like, his opinion, man.

re:limp bizkit, i can only think of one instance of trent mentioning LB in an interview (when he was asked about NIN lyrics being used in Hot Dog) and his response was miles away from calling anyone retard and asshole (not a positive response either but that's beside the point)

Theres been at least a few, aimed at Fred Durst more than the band though (except for that last pic at the bottom, and high is aimed at LB)...

I'm sure he's just making it up to earn cred for his shitty rap metal band....Thats a thing they like to do, is make lies about who likes their band...I remember seeing some interview with Freddy boy where he said the reason they got to open for Faith No More was because Mike Patton was a big fan of theirs lol.....meanwhile Patton hates them more than anything and has gone on record many times about his utter hatred and disgust for them
