So long as ticket prices don't make me "lolno" I'll see you there. Knowing there will be a "proper" tour in the US after this, I have to budget my money accordingly (if the price is that of 2 arena shows, I'll have to go for the 2 arena shows). This will be the first time I'll be able to go from my home to a NIN show in, like, 15 minutes, so I really want to be there.

edit: do we know for sure they're playing the 31st and not the 1st?

When it's not Sunday (There's a church two doors down) you can actually do that. It's about a two mile walk, but so's my walk to work.

Oh I'm definitely going to this. I found out they were playing it by my sister just telling me, I'm slipping. Are they only doing 2 day passes for this? That's all that's on live nation's site.

So, any news yet on which day NIN will be playing? I know I can't afford a 2-day pass, as it is I might not even be able to get the one-day since my tax return has yet to show up.

I'm currently trying to convince my girlfriend to put off our trip to Hawaii this summer to make this happen... Surprisingly it's working. She's not a NIN fan by any means, but she likes some of the artists there.

It's almost definitely the Sunday. Zurich is probably on the Friday so the Saturday will be travelling.

I don't trust to throw down that much cash (when I am just graduating and therefore in the most possible debt of my life) for a ticket when NIN is probably playing. :/

Anyone go to this thing last year? I'm considering it since the price is worth it for NIN and QOTSA alone (which are really the only two bands I'm interested in seeing). What is the parking situation? I assume there is no camping right?

"8.31 - 9.1" on the tour page makes me wonder if they're playing both nights? Has that ever happened before? Or is Trent just covering his ass because he isn't allowed to say which day they're playing yet?

I could have sworn I read that Beyoncé is headlining Saturday and NIN is headlining Sunday. (feels so strange typing that sentence). Not sure where I got that from, but if it isn't true, I have a 50% chance at being right. :)

I think he's covering his ass... The only way that he could perform both nights would be a HTDA inclusion to the bill (I think)

NIN is only playing one night. Festivals don't announce who is playing what day until it gets much closer. Mainly because they want you to buy the weekend pass instead of one day.

sick among the pure
04-19-2013, 01:56 AM
I don't know how multi-day festivals work, never been to one. I'm going to have to wait until we know what day NIN is playing and try to get a ticket for that day, and if they sell out before we know, I'll just have to get as close as possible and enjoy from just outside the fence. :\ I just can't do that much $ for a festival when I know they're going to do an arena tour later on for half the price, easy, and probably a longer (more visually-involved) set. Thanks for clearing that up, though.

gorny540
05-01-2013, 01:40 PM
I'm assuming they're playing the Sunday because of the fact they're in europe the same week. We'll probably know for sure in July or so when they announce the daily lineups and single day tickets

I see the one-day tickets go on sale Friday here (http://www.ticketmaster.com/budweiser-made-in-america-festival-philadelphia-pennsylvania-09-01-2013/event/02004A83A6047DE3?c=LNSM__Philadelphia_BMIA_singled ayOSsunday__fb_image_06112013). Stubhub says "It's simple: we back every order, so you can buy and sell tickets with 100% confidence."

gorny540

I'm on holidays from Australia and am doing a quick hit and run mission for the Sunday from New York....does anyone have a ballpark idea of what times QOTSA and NIN will start and finish? Am I looking at a 5-11pm start/finish or something more like a 9pm/1am start finish for both? Wondering if the visit won't be so quick and when I need to bail on this wedding after party back in NY on the Sunday! Only 68 more days!!

You might want to change the date to the 1st since that's when NIN is playing.

So, I think I'm going to give in and buy a Sunday ticket off stub hub... Considering this show will be before the album drops, and the different stage setup means probably different playlist, I figure it's worth the $80 for a day ending with NIN.

I'm probably going to end up going to this. I've never been to one of these things though. It's just a general admission free-for-all the whole day? Can you usually get a decent distance from the stage? Should I wear a diaper and park myself in front all day and listen to all the crap that comes on stage before QOTSA and NIN? I'm tight on money until about a week or two before the show when I should have some money coming in. Will stubhub tickets probably get cheaper or more expensive by then?

Wasnt planning on going to any festivals, but after seeing the new footage of Sanctified from Japan, I couldn't risk missing it. Who knows if theyll drop it off the setlist during Tension. (which they may do for the U.S. fests anyway)

Have you ever seen any of those clips from when Jay-Z and Kanye toured together and they played Niggas in Paris something like 5 or 6 times in a row at a concert? NIN has taken a cue from that and ends each show with Maybe Just Once played a whole bunch of times in a row.

That's ok. I'm sure somewhere along the line in the next 3 weeks I'll read that it's a setlist containing mainly Painful Convictions songs with a couple of HM songs thrown in. Looks like this will be my 16th NIN show. Just scored tickets on Stubhub, $60 each and only one $4.95 fee to print instantly. I'd say that's a damn good price. The hotel will probably be that for just one night. I was planning on just going to the DC show in October, but being that QOTSA is also playing and they're not doing any shows near us this year, it seemed like a good excuse to make the drive up to Philly. I've never actually gone to a festival before. It seems like some of you have been to this particular fest last year. Looking at Google Maps and the map on the festival website, it doesn't look like that big of an area, do you need to be close to the front to get a good show? We really only want to see NIN and QOTSA, so we will probably hang back for everything else, but we don't want to get shafted on a view for the good stuff. Any advice for a festival noob?

And the "set times"... is that just the awkward blocks of names with no explanation?

Maybe they're just behind in updating this stuff... though I'm happy to read that last year they had cell phone charging stations and filtered water available. Both are nice considering I'll be in the park from 11/12 till whenever the fuck NIN plays, probably dicking around on my cell phone trying to stay hydrated.

Is access to the VIP area granted via wristbands? I'm thinking the schizophrenic nature of the lineup could lead to a number of hip hop fans with no interest in NIN who could be bribed into giving them up (since they're on last anyway) if I show up with scissors, tape and a few extra bucks.

If you don't mind walking, you can pretty easily find or cheap parking in other parts of the city. There's a parking garage at 15th Street between Vine St and Spring St that's something like $5 for the day, which is about the best you're going to find, aside from parking in a residential area. It's about a 20 minute walk from the art museum, but it's a walk up the Ben Franklin parkway, which is quite nice.

Lolla was 1.45 for NIN 1.15 for Queens, and only 45 mins in between not an hour, I guess that's the difference between a well established festival and an up and coming one, Pearl Jam had 2 hours last year too

Yeah but Trent gets a little OCD about those things. Even though he has enough rehearsed materials for a two hour set I would have been very surprised if he deviated from what we've been getting. We'll be getting Sanctified or Disappointed but not both. And while I would love a three hour set I wasn't expecting one.

I've never been to a festival so I don't know how it usually works but I have noticed it set up so that other bands are playing during the interludes between bands.

I've got extra tickets for face value if anyone is looking. My NIN friend from Boston can't make it to the show so he's overnight mailing me 4 tickets total - 2 for Saturday, and 2 for Sunday. He spent $100 on a pair of Saturday + Sunday tickets, then $150 for another pair of Saturday + Sunday tickets. Would prefer to sell them as pairs, but can sell individual tickets for either day around $50-$75. I'm not a scalper, just trying to help my friend get reimbursed since he can't make the show and would rather the tickets goto NIN fans rather than random people on craigslist.

So how does the VIP section work, are they taking up the entire front row? Will there be any front access for Gen Adm? And offer still stands for anyone who wants to grab drinks prior to QOTSA during the daytime.

I think they were something like $500 or so. If I'm right, they're not worth it unless "close to the stage" means "on the stage."

Do you mean for the streaming or for the actual performance? NIN is performing from 9:30-11:00. And the two main stages are all set up so that there's one performing before moving right on to the other. So assuming that the streaming is mainly from the two main stages and not the other two stages (which means you'll have to miss Diarrhea Planet unfortunately), I'm assuming the performances will be streamed live. At the very least, it won't be before 9:30 EDT (obviously) so if you tune in then and just start watching, you'll see them.

OK, Philly native here from Fishtown. This is my first NIN concert. I got my ticket. Getting it printed tomorrow. My first concert I'm going to by myself. I'm 23. I'll be wearing boots, jeans, and a polymer knife in my boot just in case. What else do I need to know? Just keep 5 feet away from me. I'd say 30, but that's unfeasible considering the circumstances. Its ok. Just don't do anything stupid, and we'll all be fine. I mean, I wouldn't wanna have to trap your foot and bend your knee in a direction it isn't supposed to bend, and collapse you down on it with your own body weight. Or jam my palm into your throat and crush your wind pipe. This is just a concert. Lets be friendly. I'm guessing firearms won't be allowed, but hey. Shit happens.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I was referring to the streaming. You're probably right in that they'll stream at the same time as the performances, but I might add some time in there for padding, since they usually like to start a stream before the act actually comes on stage and like to keep it going for a minute or so after the act leaves.

I noticed that the link says "streaming live" so if we're going to take the ad copy literally, it should be starting at 9:30 or reasonably close to that (I think a "tape delay" - do they call them that still - is still considered live).

And if it doesn't start by 9:40 at the latest, sue them for false advertising.

Oh, Fishtown...

So, I don't like being "that guy", but I figure 1)it's a festival and 2)the people I see tomorrow will actually appreciate the shirt. I just got a completely brand new (still has tag) Fragile shirt off eBay, and I've been dying for a "good reason" to wear it. Assuming it fits well, I haven't even tried it on yet.
It's between that, or one of my Chicago Wave Goodbye club shirts. Because nobody else ever gets how awesome they are.
I was originally going to wear my Saul Williams shirt until I remembered it has a big bleach-like stain on the back from the acne medicine I was on at the time :(

HELP ME DECIDE WHAT KIND OF "that guy who wears a shirt of the band he goes to see" I SHOULD BE TOMORROW

Also, mohawk will be up, but natural dark brown. Wanted to hold off on dying it so it can be fresh in October for the arena tour.

Does anyone know a contact number? Their main site now just auto-directs to youtube, and I was hoping to be able to ask about wallet chains. I've had to throw mine away before to get in some places, other places realize it's not a fucking weapon ant more than my own fucking hands and feet. I'd really like to use it because I'm paranoid about losing my keys and wallet in the pit, so I'd have no way to get home or in my apartment once I get there.

True story. First NIN concert I went to I met up with friends at the show but went there myself. I wasn't from Pittsburgh but only going to school there so I didn't know exactly where the arena was so I just got on a bus to downtown and figured I'd follow all the people dressed on black.

We got there during A$AP whatever his name is. He was on the main stage before Public Enemy. When we was done, everyone left to go to the other stage. So it was easy to get that close. Awesome show I feel so lucky we got Sanctified and somewhat damaged, I was right on the rail for NIN and Queens as I swooped in after the rap sets were over. During Queens set Josh Eustis walked by and I stuck out my hand for a high 5 and and he cocked back and hit my hand like we just scored a touchdown. Not a fan of festivals but I've been so spoiled as of late with small shows that this was a nice change of pace. Can't wait to have audio and video of the show.

Guys, I have way too much to say, and will probably make another post in the morning. Just got out of the shower, made it back to my apartment around midnight.
I was on Robin's side, on the rail, originally in front of him but after a few people had to be pulled out, ended up shifted a little more to the right, so the camera obscured my view of him. Which sucked, but he walked around enough that we exchanged glances a few times. I'm so fucking glad he's back/still with NIN.
First, a few shout-outs, to the chicks behind me during NIN who were at their first show, hope you guys had a blast. And the chick with the mohawk and NIN logo shaved in her head who I told to join ETS, hi and welcome, totally gotta hang in line in NJ!
And of course @jessamineny (http://www.echoingthesound.org/community/members/342-jessamineny) who came down and spent the night last night so we could go see NIN together early this morning. She's in the other room right now. HI!
Security were great, in front of me at least. There were 2 main guys who were constantly in front of me, an older white dude who was a grump about everything (complained about how ever band on the list sucked) and a younger black dude who was probably the best local crew security I've dealt with. Anytime someone was being a dick, he dealt with it. He was the one always on the look out for people needing pulled out or surfing, re-filled a lot of people's water near the end of the night, got people ice who were over-heating, gave a bunch of people food (candy, oranges, random free water and gatorade). I might be biased because he was legit pissed when the girls around me for the rappers before QOTSA had never even heard of NIN. Like, I can see not liking NIN. Or even never having heard a NIN song before. But did not know the existence of the band. To the extent that the one thought he was talking to her about her nails. I'm just glad they went to see the other stages when QOTSA came on.

Didn't get to meet ANY of you guys. Unless I just didn't realize it. If so, sorry.

Random stream on consciousness change, I can't believe you guys don't have a high quality rip of the stream ready for me to watch.

Ok, so the show, Trent is so fucking back. He had a lot of energy, and looked like he was enjoying himself. Dancing a lot, bumping into Robin. Said he was glad to be back, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one thinking I'm more glad. This show was a great "warm up" for the arena tour, had a handful of songs from every album. Though I heard about the new Sanctified, I did not know that's what he was playing until the first verse. I like it, would love a studio release, but I think I read somewhere about a rehearsals audio leak, so that'll have to do. I am so behind since I didn't want any spoilers before this show. Hell, HM is still sealed and waiting for a proper listen through tomorrow (all I've heard so far are the live tracks he played tonight, and as soon as he finished Copy Of A I knew I'm going to love this album.)
Visuals were awesome for a festival. I liked the combination of "hey here is some epic screen shit I am made of pixels and there are pretty things happening" and the good old smoke+lights atmosphere for the rock-heavy tracks. Which, even the more "rock" songs sounded more tech than before. Which is cool, except I really missed Robin's guitar solos in Closer. The more album version was nice, but Robin's jarring loud angry distorted guitar was always one of my favorite parts of that song live.
First time getting Me, I'm Not (though wish I had gotten The Great Destroyer with it, both LITS shows I went to got the Warning/Vessel combo) which was great because Me, I'm Not is one of my favorite songs off YZ. Also, I want to say I had never gotten Somewhat Damaged before, but that feels like a lie. idk. It was great either way.
Wish we had gotten another song off The Slip, mostly because I love Head Down and Letting You live. 1,000,000 was still great.

I kinda want to wrap this up for now, because I'm getting up when my fiance gets home for work in the morning and making pizza. Oh, my life.
Luckily, the blisters on my heels popped early in the day so I was fairly pain free, beyond the soreness and heat of being at the gate nearly 2 hours before they opened, then literally on the rail from noon (went straight there, no water stop, bathroom stop, merch stop) till NIN was over. I went before the first band came on to fill my water shit, which my god camel packs are a godsend. I want them to be allowed to every show ever.
But that persistence at the rail, coupled with being a decent human being, is what got me recognized by people I guess. I know a lot of the media photographers got photos of me, the camera guy showed me a lot (so I heard from people watching the streams), and at the end of the day that awesome security guard told the NIN roadie that came to the rail with the setlist that he "need to give it to this guy right here with the mohawk." So, I got a souvenir, fuck yeah. It's on my wall right now.

So, I'm probably biased about that security guy. But I swear he was cool, too.

Oh, some guy, he wasn't wearing the security shirt so idk who he was, said something to me quick in passing before QOTSA. Something along the lines of how I'm probably bored sitting through the other acts and devoted as fuck and "soon Trent will be out here and it'll be worth it."
Then he handed me an ice cold gatorade.

I had a good time.

OH, another random thought. Some of you may have seen me riding out on the back of a paramedic car thing. I'm ok, not my place to talk about what was up, but I'm ok.

edit: durr, WT summer tour had Somewhat Damaged. Ok, I feel better, that was bugging me. I saw in a seat for that show which is why it didn't register for me as having seen it.

Holy shit. That was hands down, above and beyond the NINJA show I saw them at in Austin. I was one person from the rail, and I had the greatest time ever. I also ended up with one of Trent's guitar picks. Can't wait to see the HD rip.

I just did it from my iPhone. You can take a screen shot by pressing both buttons and saves the image to your camera roll (and can edit it there), then upload it to photobucket and and copy the image tag.

Im probably one of the least technical people on this site so if I can figure it out should be easy for everyone else to get the hang of it.

Had a great time. Bummed we didn't get "The Way Out Is Through" and "What If We Could" but I'm not surprised. Trent seems to make the setlist "harder" when he plays in Philly.

Ended up at the corner of the center rail and the front rail on the left side.

Band sounded really tight. Rob was standing next to me during the first three songs and was visibly upset that something wasn't working right during "Came Back Haunted." I couldn't tell what it was but he was upset.

re: MADE IN AMERICA

Associated Press:

The band's 90-minute set featured hard rock anthems, songs with techno influences as well as groovy and eerie jams. NIN closed the night with a slow and smoky cover of Johnny Cash's "Hurt," which earned nonstop cheers from the crowd. Reznor was soft as he sang the song's verses — making it the set's highlight.

having seen four festival shows streamed already, i was still anxious to see the show last night. me and my buddy got there about an hour before queens of the stone age were going to take the stage. the setup was a lot different than last year, and we were able to walk right up to stage left about 20 feet deep. i'll admit that im not a huge fan of them, but i do know their hits. solid show.

we were gonna stay and hang out to get close, but we figured it wouldnt be that difficult to get back there since it seemed like 3/4 of the crowd were headed over to camp out for calvin harris. i had to support budweiser by buying a couple $11 24oz cans of beer, which were promptly sweated out because of the humidity. made our way back to the stage and was about 50 feet back right in the center by the railing. couple nice, younger fans around me (i'm 40), and none really heard the new stuff yet. i think only a couple of us were rocking out when copy of a starting going. love the new versions of sanctified and terrible lie. im a huge fan of me, i'm not and somewhat damaged, so those were highlights for me. find my way sounded great, but to the generic fan, i think thats the song they will go take a piss to. i could go on an on, but overall, the energy trent put off just straight up killed it. great to see josh blending in so well.

for those that watched the live stream or who were there, did trent say 'thank you new jersey' instead of philly? also, did survivalism sound like a half beat off, or was it just my ears?

one other note. this was my first festival, i think, since lollapalooza in '93. people are fucking slobs. there were tons of garbage/recycling cans all over the place, but the field was littered with garbage. good thing the rain held off until this morning. it was pouring as i was driving back.

this was my 9th time seeing nin. got tix too prudential a few days after my bday, and probably gonna see them in kansas city. cant wait for the arena tour to see how trent and company plan on changing things.

Someone shat themselves. We were walking towards the stage as people were leaving from Wiz Khalifa to go watch Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and we saw some people surrounding this girl. She looked like she was having a heat stroke, and when we passed her, we saw that she got a little too messed up.

Just finished watching the show on Youtube. I was really impressed with the energy level and enthusiasm of the whole band. They had a pretty good set list for a festival show imo. Everyone sounded on point including Rubin's "Wish" breakdown which I've politely critiqued in the past :P I'm really looking forward to the full HM tour when we get the full experience and set list surprises. Now off to listen to HM for the first time start to finish... :)

Without sounding corny, it seemed like something clicked between the band and the crowd more than at other NIN shows I've been at including Wave Goodbye. In all fairness though it may have just been that I've never been to a festival before and was expecting it to be very impersonal and am exaggerating the fact that it wasn't.
