I know I'm not the only one here who likes JRPG's so hopefully I'm not the only one who is following the SMT series.

It was announced today that Shin Megami Tensei IV will be out this summers in the US in an English translation.

I'm really liking the play style of it. No more random encounters. It will have the play style of Persona 3 and 4, you run up to a demon and you fight it instead of just getting into a random battle. New demons as well. Demon fusing has also made it's return like every other SMT game.

Game takes place in 1492, you being an 18 year old are to be sacrificed and end up getting caught in the middle of a war between demons and gods. Based on your decisions in the game, you choose between Law or Chaos in the up-coming world you create.

They take use of a lot of deities from different religions and such. No English trailer has been released yet, but expecting one soon.

So has anyone been keeping up with this game? It's the main reason I want a 3DS. Wish it was on a Vita...

The game seems like it's going to have a kick ass soundtrack.

I've slowly stopped playing Final Fantasy games and have started to go towards the SMT series because I'm more interested in them than Final Fantasy.

Never really got into the Persona games but loved the visual style and world/story of the Digital Devil Saga series. Found the gameplay a little dry though. If they xombined the gameplay of the modern FF instalments with the aesthetics and story of the SMT games you'd have best modern JRPG material for sure.

I've been meaning to get back to DDS. The voice acting just turned me off completely. I'm actually decently new to the JRPG genre and DDS was the first one I played, then I played Persona 4 and fell in love, then went on to play FF7,8,10,12 and a bit of 13. Though I never beat 10 either. Sort of near the end, but it's been too long since I've played it, so I'd have to completely restart over to get the story again.

I think the gameplay in SMT4 looks pretty good by what I've seen. They've done a lot of changes since SMT3 which was 9 years ago. The customization in 4 looks great so far as well as the new designs for the demons.

I tried persona 4 in december and instantly fell in love. Such a fantastic game.

It really is. It's what got me into the SMT series. I'm just trying to get more into the main line series since Persona is a spin off.

Bump.

So far I'm 8 hours into the game and it's a blast. It's no where near as hard as Nocturne and the story isn't as dark, but it's still challenging at some parts and the story has it's moments of being dark like a demon possessing your best friend and having to kill him .

I'm really enjoying not having to worry about random encounters, they play just like Persona 3 and 4 where you run up to an enemy so it's easy to dodge them when you're low on health.

Though what sucks is that some of the designs for some of the demons are pretty stupid or just poorly drawn. The new design for Medusa is like some shitty deviantart kind of drawing.

Though there are a lot of cool ones. The new design for Minotaur is pretty sweet looking.

A real big plus for the game though is the soundtrack. The soundtrack is fucking awesome. It can go from some soft ambient type music to metal to some church like music and the likes.

The bonus stuff is really cool too. The strategy guide/art book it comes with is awesome, the soundtrack it comes with of remade songs from past SMT games is kind of lackluster except the remake of the title opening song for Nocturne and the main SMTIV theme song. Plus it comes in a pretty cool box case which are just limited time things.

The battle system is nice because you don't really have to worry about random encounters. It plays like Persona 3 and 4 where you go up to an enemy and attack it that way. So if you're low on health you just gotta dodge them, you don't have to worry about getting in a huge battle because also escaping battles isn't as bad as Nocturnes either. You can actually get away about half the time unless you're playing on easy (which you unlock after dying 2 times) which you can escape 100% of the time except in boss battles.

Over all, I highly recommend this game. Also, for a limited time they give you like a $10 off coupon for Fire Emblem: Awakening on the E-Store. So if you haven't played both yet and want to play them, get SMTIV first since it'll save you $10 which is cool, but I already had FE:A.

One of the DLC makes the game not even difficult. There's a double EXP DLC you can buy which makes the difficulty a fucking joke.
