So, El Camino has leaked, and I've heard it twice today, and I'll go on record as saying it's on the same level of Rubber Factory. These guys have gone from making great blues music, the becoming the best pure rock band out there.

Love this record so far. Glad it has a nice vibe to it while still feeling familiar. Rad.

Exactly what I was thinking. Similar to Brothers how they keep their blues roots, but these are more rock songs than anything. Little Black Submarines is my favorite so far.

And now they're an arena rock band. They're doing an arena tour in support of El Camino, with a date at the Garden, and the support...Arctic Fucking Monkeys! I really wish this tour was passing near me, but hot damn, this sounds like an amazing pairing.

El Camino is in the running for my best of the year. I love this damn thing so much. The Falsettos have really made Auerbachs Lyrics shine. I find it very interesting that the guitar is so much in the background of these songs. The timing of the guitar weaving in and out of the melodies on the songs really makes it shine in a different but equally good way than on previous efforts. This album rocks my socks.

pretty bummed that theyre playing arenas now. i have zero interest in watching this band in a venue that size. Arctic Monkeys are utter shit...i dont understand how anyone likes them. Add in their ridiculous name and it blows my mind that people take them seriously.

Yeah, not to mention Alex Turner is one of they best lyricists around, no man, FUCK ARCTIC MONKEYS BRO! And to hell with bands who get bigger and play arenas, even though they've been playing a bigger sound for about four and a half years. Yeah man, getting more famous and having a higher demand sucks!

Don't feed the trolls. And besides, don't you know Kid? All the best bands in the world should stay small bands in small clubs with 41 people in the crowd. As soon as a band gets a bigger following it doesn't just mean that more and more people are catching on to good music...it means they suck ass. Srsly.

What's wrong with Arctic Monkeys? Sure it's a silly name, but the music is pretty good. . .

Not a single west coast date makes me a sad Panda :(. I NEED MAH KEYS!

Their site says this is the first leg of the North American tour dates. I can only assume that they have more coming, in other parts of the country.

It makes sense that they're only doing one region, though. I mean, it's not like it's the exact same part of the country that they hovered around the LAST time they were on tour or anything...But that's just me being sore because tickets sold our for their Tulsa show the SAME morning I was going to buy them. :P I don't think I'll ever let that go.

Gonna listen to leaked El Camino at work tonight and buy it next week! I already know I'll want to.

Yeah, but I hate the anticipation. And I'm a spoiled Californian, bands usually come here first!

Bleh! I'm sure you've got nothing to worry about. You're California. Bands don't generally avoid you like the plague like they do Kansas. :p

True. Poor Kansas! :( Hahaha!

It's okay! Kansas City is close enough, and so are Tulsa and OKC. However, after our accident on the way to puscifer yesterday, I think I'll take a break from long drives until another big show comes around after the new year. :P If I'm really lucky, The Black Keys'll announce another US leg around my birthday the first week of May.

By the way, anyone else watching 'em on SNL right now?

Kid Charlemagne
12-04-2011, 12:09 AM
They fucking killed it on SNL. Jess, they'll announce a Cali date shortly. They're doing the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas next week, so they can't announce dates in that area till after the show. I think these guys are a lock to headline both Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits next year though.

I get why theyre playing arenas, and dont begrudge them for trying to make $. good for them. just pointing out that it bums me out bc i wont be seeing them live anymore if this is where theyre headed. As far as their sound getting bigger, yeah they've expanded past 2 members, but their sound isnt exactly Muse or something now. Still best heard in a more intimate setting, to me. Charlemagne, i know you're obsessed with what monstrous band is gonna headline all the big festivals, and who is big enough now to do it, etc etc, but not everyone is psyched about such things.

After they canceled their last Euro-dates due to exhaustion, but couldn't resist announcing a full US-tour instead, I was actually through with this band, but a friend scored tickets to see them in Berlin in January, so I'll give them a chance again. Haven't heard the new album tough.

I do hope they add more dates though, as I'd love to finally see them live.

I have been listening to the black keys progress throughout the years and i just love it. I cannot stand when groups just stick to the same formula, even though it really works for some, it makes their career stale and one sided.

El Camino was a lot better on my first dozen of listens, but the songs got really old fast for me. I replay Brothers a whole lot I have noticed along with Attack & Release.

I don't care much for Brothers. It was good, but I can take it or leave it.

The shows this weekend were fantastic! I want to go to more. :(

I love the hype people are putting behind this single. "The first new music since 2011!" Oh, December 2011 to March 2014. what a HUUUGE drought. :P

That said, it's pretty good! Doesn't hook me as well as "Lonely Boy" did, but I'll probably be getting this one. I'll wait until the inevitable one or two song premieres and album stream preview to know for sure.

Doesn't sound like the new album is anything great, I haven't had the chance to listen yet. I do like the singles, but regardless they aren't anything groundbreaking. I found it real interesting how at their headlining slot at Hangout Festival with a 20 song set only 3 were off Turn Blue, maybe deep down they know the new album isn't anything good either, setlist: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-black-keys/2014/the-hangout-gulf-shores-al-43c34b2f.html

They didn't really look too enthused either. They've sort of been phoning it in since El Camino came out as far as performing, which is a shame, because the shows I saw on the Brothers tours were fucking loud and energetic.

The new album has some songs that I think are some of their best work... but seems like they just stayed in their comfort zone here. It beats the hell out of "El Camino" which I found to be lackluster and boring. They will never top Attack & Release in my opinion.

I feel like I dont need any more music from this band. I love their old output, and im good with that. Calling this album "Lets Rock" isnt helping. I did read that they claim its a return to how they used to do things though.
